Automatically going from vibrate to loud - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I'm not sure why it happens but sometimes my phone what seems at random just decides to go to loud. I hate hearing the noises of phones idk they annoy me lol so i set it always to vibrate and like said before it goes to loud. It seems to do it when plugging in and just random times not sure I don't want the phone to decide when to go to loud especially if i'm in class or something.
this last part annoyances with the phone but love it overall may have to going back to my addiction with roming it lol. Vibrate when inputing things all the time and camera motor vibrating (think there may be a solution for that haven't seen it in a while tho so may be fixed on latest os rom, battery dieing sort of fast some days. that's it i love the phone otherwise I've gotten out of phones so its been perfect otherwise. thanks for anyones help

@spriteboost, which kind of ZTE phone are you have, A2017G or A2017U? Could you tell us your phone's IMEI?

I have the a2017u and yeah my imei I will not post that anywhere thank you very much don't need that cloned for someone else's uses.

Do you have any automatic rules set up in your sound profile?
settings -> sound & notification -> do not disturb -> rules
This wouldn't explain why the volume is switching on when you plug it in, but worth checking anyway

Nexus One -- Incall Bug

So here's my issue.
During a call if i recieve a SMS/MMS/Email, my earpiece volume drops dramatically and i can use the volume rocker and put it too full and it still doesn't get back to a decent level.
So i was wondering if anyone else has noticed this and is having this small problem, other than that i am completely happy with the phone so far , haven't touched my iPhone since i recieved the Nexus One Jan 7th
P.S. i have SMS Popup app installed and same problem, so i have tried removing the app and still no cure
I haven't tried this on SpeakerPhone or BT Headset
I can 2nd this bug.
Along side, if you were to use any touch tone to send DTMF tones while on the phone (say you're entering your credit card or something), it also goes down real low. This is definitely a bug.
C
ya ....argh!!...hopefully a firmware update fix
I have experienced the bug as well...but what is even more strange is that if I get another text message or email and it causes the phone to vibrate the in-call volume shoots up even louder than it was before. I think it may have something to do with dual microphone and background noise cancellation this phone has.
No problem for me?
Just thought I'd offer some more input, but I don't think my phone is experiencing this problem..? I am currently on the phone with T-Mo, and had to enter numbers via the number pad while in the call, and the volume didn't adjust (neither up or down) at all.
I'm glad I found this thread. I should have read through all of the posts in XDA before starting a brand new thread about this. Sorry guys! I even have this issue listed on google's help forum with some ppl indicating the same. The call volume decrease for me when a call comes in. I have to put the phone on speaker, then take it off speaker in order to get the volume back to where it was. I use to have the volume decrease during an active call when a email or text comes in, but a small work around was to set the ringtone and notifications to silent in settings and in text and emails. Does anyone know if this is a software or hardware issue? or if there will be an OTA update to fix? This phone is amazing otherwise...I know there isn't a TON of ppl reporting this, so I hope google doesnt forget about us. I received a replacement that did the same thing along with new bugs the original didn't have, so I sent it back.
I have it also. Just thought it was me!
@johnboywilson, do you think google will come out with an OTA update for this? This is technically my first android phone, so im not sure how often they come out with updates, or if they get to all the issues no matte how few ppl might be having them. I had WinMo before, and they were pretty good at getting to bugs, sometimes even if just a handful of ppl have them. I had a samsung behold II for 2 weeks. I've only been using android for a little over a month now.
next time this happens will someone try swapping to speaker phone then back to handset and see if it goes back to where it was. I've had a problem a couple times where I couldn't hear the caller, switched to speaker phone, heard them fine, switch back to handset and the volume was back to normal. I honestly dont remember if I had received a notification at the time or not but I'd be curious to know if it is the same thing.
@zjchaser, if you had seen my two previous posts, you would have seen that I use the speaker phone on then off method to correct the volume decreasing when a call, text or email comes in while on a call. This is just a work around and not a fix. I need to know if we will get an OTA update to correct???
@Mrplennium I`m sure they will. if you go onto google support pages you will see what questions people are asking and what faults other people are experiencing.
@zjchaser I have had that problem too. If im on a call and i switch between speaker phone and handset the sound goes off. If i then make a new call the sound is still off and i have to switch between speaker and handset to get it to come back on!
Still love the phone though..
@johnboywilson, I hope you are right. I am one of those ppl that started a thread on the google forum about this issue, and others have been reporting it. I was just fearful that this is one of those issues that's in the minority, so google might skip over it. I hope that's not the case. Other than that, this is by far the BEST phone i've ever owned. I have no other issues with it.
I use the wired headset mostly, but I can confirm this as well. It isn't just another call or SMS for me that causes it...anything that adds a notification (SMS, plugging in to USB, email...anything!). The volume either goes crazy up, or crazy down. It seems to alternate.
It went down the other day after an email during a call, so I had to put the rocker all the way up just so it would sound normal. Shortly thereafter, I got a text and lost my hearing for about 10 mins...the phone can get very loud.
Seriously, this needs to be fixed.
Yup, it happens through the wired headset as well. I think it's def a software issue. Hope you have google people patrolling this site and seeing these issues as well. The first OTA update is coming this week, but for the 3G issue. No one knows what other possible fixes might be included.
Even received a replacement that did the same thing. Not sure why some ppl have working devices, and others have these software glitches. I doubt i'll ever be an early adopter again.
WOW! ok, after 3 preliminary tests, I can conclude that the OTA update has resolved this issue!!!!! YEEPEEE!!!!!!!! Now the phone is PERFECT! I will keep monitoring the situation throughout the day to see if it stays that way, which I can't imagine why it wouldn't!!!THANK YOU GOOGLE!!!!
it didnt fix the problem when i did the update, still have low incall volume
If you have low incall volume - rise it, or flash a kernel with volume boost hack. This bug has been resolved months ago. You're talking about something else.

Escalating Ringtone

I've noticed my phone always starts to ring at where I set the volume to and then escalates to be very loud after a few seconds. I didnt see any settings to change this. Is this happening to anybody else?
Is it in your pocket when it does that?
I noticed in the HTC Sense demo video it says if it is in your pocket or purse it will ring loud so you can hear it. I think it has to do with proximity and light sources. If i have it sitting out, it will ring quietly, but it is always loud in my pocket.

Actually yeah. Thats usually when it gets loud. I dont really like that as it gets super loud sometimes. Why wouldnt they have a setting for this?
Any news on this? Because I also find it quite annoying that the ringer is so loud even when I'm sitting in the quiet office...

I have the same issue! It happens on ALL Sense ROM's. If I am running AOSP (CM6 or MIUI) it is not an issue. Are there any ways to disable this setting if it is supposed to do so? Mine is on my belt in a case and when I'm in the office it rings way too loud. If the phone is on my desk it rings as I have the volume set.
Actually I found you can disable the loud ringer in settings really easy
Settings --> Sound --> Pocket mode
There's no way to adjust the volume though,
Apparently the Shift has the same issue as my EVO or as Sprint would call it..."feature".
http://forum.androidcentral.com/showthread.php?p=669629#post669629
You would think there was an app out there to override this.

What device/ROM are you running? There is no setting for Pocket mode under settings -> sound on the stock EVO Shift 4G (at least not on mine). Anyone else find this?
I have a Desire Z with the original ROM (Froyo + Sense)

that setting dont apply to shift
Did a complete wipe 2x using Amon Ra Recovery 2.3 and then flashed a stock image file from HBOOT and updated WiMAX, PRI & NV Radio. The issue was not present on the stock ROM. Wiped the stock ROM and flashed Myn's RLS5.....no more issues. Something was corrupt and enabled the sensor to trigger ring loud (when covered or senses low light) as it is designed to do on the Shift. The EVO does not have Pocket Mode in settings. Whatever the cause.....it is now resolved!
I sent a tweet in the direction of @htc about this yesterday, but they haven't answered. Hopefully we get an update that gives us a 2.x release of sense, not this weird "you have some of the features of new sense but not the whole package." The other feature that I know is there is the one where you can flip the phone over to silence the ring, and in fact, BOTH features are undocumented - the user manual for the shift doesn't mention declining a call by flipping the phone OR the word pocket except in warnings about where not to keep it.
I don't have any hope of a satisfactory answer, though, because in an earlier answer to someone about bugs, they said to submit something at htc.com/support and make sure to mark it a bug report - you can't do that anywhere on the email form and the other two options for support aren't things you "submit." The two times I've contacted them by email were also tremendous disappointments, so... there you go.
Tried to second your post on HTC's support forum but their forum software is misconfigured and my email server is rejecting their mail because it is not a fully-qualified hostname. Meh. Like you, I don't hold out enough hope of a fix to bother with the registration process.
You mentioned flip to silence, but there is actually a setting on the Evo Shift 4G to silence the ringtone when the phone is moved. It's under settings - sounds, and it is "quiet ring on pickup". Since the action of flipping the phone involves moving it, I wonder if you are seeing that setting working when you flip your phone over. My phone stops ringing (if it's not in a pocket) when I pick it up off the table. It doesn't decline the call, it just stops the ringer.
Edit: eh, I made an allowance on my mail server so HTC's misconfigured SMTP server could send my activation message and let me register.
By the way, I posted a workaround on Android Central that works for the way I use the phone. I created a silent ringtone. Then I set the phone to vibrate as well. So in my pocket I feel/hear the vibration but I don't get the ridiculously-loud rings. But I can hear my notifications at normal volume. When the phone is on my desk, the vibration and screen lighting up are enough of an alert for me. Obviously this won't work if you ever keep the phone in a bag or somewhere that you can't hear or feel the vibration, but it works for me as a pocket user.
Three ticks up from silenced on the volume rocker:
Picking the phone up off my desk quiets the ring, flipping it silences the ring. I wonder if turning off quiet ring on pickup will turn off flip to silence... might as well try it.
aaand no it doesn't. Pickup didn't quiet (per the setting now being off) but flip still did silence the ring.
Interesting note: flip-to-silence is actually a silencer; it doesn't decline the call immediately.

For anyone else that wants to weigh in on the issue on the official HTC support forum. Maybe they won't ignore us too hard.

Ok, makes sense - since I use a silent ringtone, the "quiet" and "silent" are the same to me, LOL. But yes, it doesn't decline the call.
I actually liked the Touch Pro2 where flipping during a call would turn on the speakerphone. Why can't they keep good features like that instead of forcing this new stuff down our throats with no option to turn it off.
Bump/Update: After two tweets on the issue and an entire week of the post I made sitting on the HTC forums, I have had enough of being ignored and went to the email support option.
I'm not resetting my phone again, so I instead borrowed the New Issue text from Google Code project pages and sent steps to duplicate.
Anybody else that might have this problem is welcome to weigh in; I gave links to this thread and the one over on Android Central in my forum post on HTC, which is linked in the support message I sent.
Another update: Today I received my response; I don't have to reset my phone (yet) and my concern is being escalated to whatever the next level of CS is called.
They say escalated department is first-come, first-served, so it may be a while before I know more.
The problem is that HTC sees this as a feature, not a bug. They market this as a way to hear your phone when it's in a bag. While it makes perfect sense to us end-users to have an option to turn this off, from a lab testing standpoint it's not a priority because the function works as designed. If HTC had really thought this through, they should realize that there are some things phones should never do, and ringing at maximum volume unless specifically directed by the user is one of them.
The funny thing is that I'd like almost the exact opposite behavior. I'd prefer the phone to ring (quietly) on my desk, and automatically switch to vibrate when it's in my pocket (as determined by the prox sensor). But people who carry their phones in bags or purses wouldn't benefit from this option. Everybody's needs are different; HTC just determined what they think is the most common scenario and coded Sense that way. I have to give them credit for thinking up the idea, but since it doesn't work for everyone it should be more flexible.
Thanks for taking the time to bring this to their attention. It may well be that a couple of generations of phones from now we'll start seeing more options in these settings, which would be fantastic.
Update: HTC has been calling me at work, once yesterday once today. I have not been at work this week but will be in tomorrow; they gave me a number to call if I wanted to get in touch with them sooner. I will be calling them back as soon as I'm done with my planned tasks tomorrow (assuming they haven't called me first).
Here's hoping news about when we get an update that stops this nonsense comes swiftly!

notification sound issue

at some point of the day i noticed my notification sound no longer working.
I got all the msgs on my notification but with out sound.
turning off and on didnt fix. only the battery pull worked.
it happened like every once a day. some times I have to do battery pull twice a day.
I had this phone for a wk now.
anyone having notification sound issue?
even the turn off screen and on sound muted.
There's a few bugs, nougat is brand new, they'll fix things. My headphone kept buzzing one time until a restart
Its not just you. And I don't think its exactly something to do with Android 7.0
If you look at how your audio menu is when you change the ringer volume, you'll see that when the phone is set to vibrate, it actually MUTES the other two sliders.. it doesn't set them to vibrate. With that in mind, it seems more likely LG has a bug, than Android 7.0 having a bug.
Having this problem as well with my H910 (AT&T). It's very frustrating indeed. What's even worse is that it seems sporadic in nature, sometimes I will get a notification chime, sometimes I won't. As skyedream said, a battery pull is the only way to get consistent notification sounds, if only temporarily.
I think I get this too. Often I pull my phone out of pocket to find I had a text that I never heard.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I had this problem too yesterday where it was just frozen. Did a restart and all seemed ok after. First time that happened.
This happens to me as well. Also, I will get double notification sounds at times. Like an echo. Or, a different sound mixed with my selected sound. A reboot fixes. Have to do it a couple times a day. Very annoying.
No sound for notifications + no web video playback
I also have same issue with notifications. No pattern on what causes this, but a reboot gets rid of this (just for sometime! and the problem is back). I have also noticed apps not working smoothly and unable to play web videos including from Youtube app and Facebook App. Overall, tad disappointed with the software quality on this set.
Phone notification vibrate shuts off all other notification sounds

Good call, thanks! I also notice that even though I have Sound Settings-Volume-Touch & Feedback sounds Off, I still get haptic feedback vibration on keyboard while typing this reply to you. It goes away when I go into Sound Settings-Vibration Strength, & turn slider off for Vibrate on tap. The Settings software isn't connecting the overall Volume Profile with the Vibrate Strength settings it seems. I don't know enough to know whether this is Android or LG. Under Vibrate Strength you can control notifications too, though haven't yet tested. Hope this helps til it gets fixed.

I just tested texting...even though on quick settings slider notifications for text are grayed out, while call setting show vibrate only, in the full settings menu, under Vibrate Strength, you can slide the vibration strength up...I did this, sent myself a text, and phone vibrated the notification. I think it's messed up that I can't shut my call notification off completely, including nvibrate quickly with volume key or quick settings. Have to go into full settings menu sound & select silent. Please fix this Android/LG.

I can't seem to even fix it with a reboot.

I experience the same as you. I usually clear regents and then hit restart and all my notification sounds come back and videos. I'm just wondering, are you using any type of ad blocker? I use the ad block browser and I've noticed that whenever I open my browser, that's when my notifications get muted.
Issue resolved after update
Hi, looks like this issue is resolved with the update I got in January 2017 end. But not sure what caused it to fail in first place. But as of now, all is well after the update. Cheers!
I still have this problem over here on T-Mobile. Very annoying.
Anyone ever find a fix? Having these issues on a new LG V20 US Unlocked connected to Verizon.
Bumping this to see if anyone has found a solution to this. My V10 started muting notifications when the ringer volume was set to vibrate on one of its later updates. I figured it was a glitch in my phone since I didn't see anyone else complaining about it. This was one of the reasons i decided to upgrade to a V20. I was pretty surprised that it did the exact same thing and it's apparently by design. Who in their right mind would think this was a good idea?
I'm not sure of the cause, but I had many calendar reminder alarms fail to sound over several days when I got this V20. I tried different calendar apps and ended up with one called aCalendar. It works OK most of the time, but there is still a serious issue. If ANY other kind of notification happens to sound right when a calendar alarm needs to sound, the calendar will NEVER sound its reminder notification for the alarm. I've had this happen several times with incoming text or social networking message notifications. I hear those, and then the subsequent alarm that should have sounded concurrently is silent. I've had to set 2 reminders for the same important event, spaced 10 minutes apart, to try to reduce the odds of this issue hijacking an important notification. I've not seen this exact problem ever before on any Android device. My US Unlocked V20 is 100% stock. No idea what to do about it. But from what I can glean online, neither LG nor Verizon plan to push any future updates on the V20, so we're stuck.
For contact selecting unique notification tones that actually stopped working
I got this LG v20 and I loved it...still do....but... how do I keep certain text notification tones thst i select to not change back to default?...on its own? Crazy. I use zedge ap to download ringtones n notification tones. Maybe there is an issue there?
@Dkb123,
If you could please add some punctuation to your post, it might be easier to read so someone can understand your problem and help you .
I am using a rooted HTC One m10 with Viper ROM and am having the same problem. Echos notification noises, turns off alarm and notification sounds, and it is beyond annoying. I have already had to reset it twice to try to fix it and nothing has worked. I have no idea what is causing it but when I try to open my alarm app it says it was disabled and could have been caused by a system time change (which didnt happen) or battery saving (where I have it whitelisted). I will try disabling my ad-blocker. I'm not sure how those things could be connected but since it was suggested I will give it a go. I am consulting all of the developers I know about this but so far nobody has an answer. I am kind of starting to freak out because I need my phone to work. I have 3 kids under the age of 6 in school and need to know when someone has to get in touch with me. Before the last reset, I also saw that when my notification was disabled and I went back in to reenable it, it had been switched back to the sound I had selected the time before that. One more note. When I go in to check my notification noises, all of them, my ringer, notifications, and alarm, are all blank for about one half second before they repopulate and then show the correct tones. If it were as simple as it being my ROM someone would have posted it on the thread because it is a pretty big problem to have gone unnoticed. Is it possible we are all running an app or have a shared setting that is causing this to happen to only us. I had to dig pretty hard to find this thread in the first place. It might help if we posted a list of our apps, what do you guys think?

Vibration in Galaxy S8 is too weak

Hi,
Do you feel the same as I, so the vibration in Galaxy S8 is too weak?
Is it a known issue? Is there any way to make it stronger?
I don't have any case, and the vibration is on max, and I have already played with the vibration patterns.
Thanks.
Is someone here has a similar problem?
If the phone is on something soft for example or in my pocket, I hardly ever feel it.
It's not weak. Have you turned up the vibration in setting.
I can even hear my phone vibrate when my friend is typing on it, and i'm like 1-2 meter away from it.

Of course it turned on. All are on max.
Only when it's on a hard surface I can feel/hear it.
Maybe I missing something or other setting, or there is actually a real problem?
I wouldn't call i weak , however my htc 10 was way better for vibration! It was almost too strong ha The s8 is weaker but not weak! My only issue with vibrate is that once you disable vibrate.... its disabled for ALL sound modes! So lets say i turn off vibrate but later i attend a meeting and i want to put my phone on silent but i want my phone to vibrate.... it wont and theres no way to adjust it for each different sound mode! In fact even if i select the sound mode "vibrate" it wont vibrate once you turn vibrate down/off then its off universally! This sucks as with EVERY phone i have ever owned it was always something you could adjust for each individual sound mode/profile!
But if the phone is placed on some papers you don't notice that something happened.
It wasn't like that with the previous devices.

I TOTALLY agree - vibration is WAY TOO WEAK. Rarely feel it when phone is in my pocket and the only time I do hear it is if it is on a hard surface. I wish there was a way to download an outside vibration. I hope someone can answer this.

I opened this issue when the phone was new, and the situation is pretty the same today.
As I said for notification that using vibration you almost don't notice it, only when there is a phone call, and also it's too weak. Only on hard surface you can notice it.

Incoming calls - buzzing sound [video inside]

Hi,
I'm loving my OnePlus 5, but there is a strange behaviour with incoming calls. When the phone is ringing and vibrating, sometimes a really bad buzzing sound occurs every few seconds.
It doesn't happen with every call and I have absolutely no idea what's triggering it. I've thought about the vibration motor, but then it shouldn't only make that sound for some calls.
Anyone else with this issue?
Ok, I've done some tests and can easily reproduce the issue:
It happens when vibration is set to strong, like it is set default for calls, and the phone is lying somewhere. As soon as i touch the phone a little bit or take it in the hand, the sound stops. It cames definitely from the top (right?) of the phone.
It would be nice, if anyone could check if their phone makes the same noises. Either call your phone or simply go to vibrations settings.
I've made a video of the vibration sound on strong settings. Would anyone please be so kind to check it on his/her device? You can hear the strange noise pretty well.
OnePlus support told me it was normal.

Thanks for your reply. I've set vibration to medium as a workaround. It would have been hard to believe every device is doing this ugly noise, especially since you hear it with standard settings for incoming calls.
Nevertheless I'd appreciate any further feedback wether his/ her device is affected or not.
Bro, I'd like to know if this issue got fixed for you? I am commenting because I started noticing this too.

I had to RMA the phone. Unfortunately it's the only solution.
I have 2 days left before my 10-day-replacement policy is over. You're saying, your replacement device doesn't have the issue?
