Custom Boot Logos for E4 [Qualcomm] - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

I made some new TWRP flashable logo.bins for the Qualcomm E4. They will not work for the MediaTek variant. @KevMetal tested them out below, and reported that they did not work on his XT1762.:crying:
The "N/A" is barely visible. Since we know where to look, it can be faintly seen, but for anyone else, it won't be noticeable.
Feel free to get creative and add to the collection.

Made one from the stock Moto logo. Just added white strips to the top, and bottom, to balance it out. "N/A" will not be visible.

Going to try one on my mediatek
....didn't break anything
buuuuut didn't work on my xt1762 moto e4
:crying::crying::crying:

Could you show me how you made these?? Wondering if I could make some different ones. By the way, good job!

I made a guide here. Everything you need to know.

I will be making some custom logos when I get time, I made a lot of them back when I had the Moto E 2nd gen

Some new ones.

Just flashed the blue one. Very nice. Covers the n/a nicely. Thanks dude.

Can anyone make ones like these from the E2? I tried flashing one and it just shows a black screen with N/A still. Thanks!

Worked perfectly. Thanks!

Why was this thread moved? To Q&A, nonetheless.

Just wanting to let you guys know, I'm on a vzwPerry XT1767 and if you connect via USB to adb and issue 'adb reboot bootloader,' you can then issue 'fastboot flash logo logo.bin' (assuming the 'logo.bin' file is whatever boot logo you want in your ADB directory) and as long as:
1- the file keeps the name, and
2- the image doesn't exceed the size of the original,
it will successfully flash a custom boot logo with a locked bootloader.
IDK if this is already known, but lately I've been doing anything and everything in my power to figure out a root method for this phone, and in doing so I stumbled across this forum and decided to give a custom logo a try. Js,for the record. How this helps\informs!

We have some custom files for mtk variant now if anyone was looking . Come join us and download .

Btw, one more thing, just wanting to get someone to clarify here:
The reason it's possible (even with VZW's permalocked bootloader) - the 'logo.bin' doesn't invoke the TrustZone Kernel security from PBL to SBL1 - SBL3, then on into ABOOT because it isn't part of the 'flashing_critical' or 'preloader\bootloader' parameter\class of partitions ??

This worked great on my Moto G4. I reinstalled the stock firmware so I can sell it, but didn't like the N/A Warning about the device not being trusted. Now it boots cleanly without any silly warning.

The positioning of the N/A on the E4 makes it difficult to cover/hide in a satisfactory manner...unless you use a white background - then it's no problem. However, I prefer a dark/black background. I have not really been happy with any of the boot logos I've made. I think I have a somewhat decent solution, though. I have attached a black template for anyone that's interested. Simply add your own artistic creation and flash your new boot logo. The top is an off-white/gray that mostly hides the N/A, and quickly blends into the black background. For kicks, I've also included another flashable logo.

I ended up figuring it out and making my own. I like the black, due to the brightness of the screen at night but the N/A still shows up on there since I didn't make a white strip at the top. Such a weird thing for Lenovorola to put in. Thanks for making these!

It's not weird, it's on purpose. So they know you unlocked it, since it voids your warranty.

[Q] So I know this has been solved/asked before but...

Being the noob dummy that I am, I was not paying attention when I was clearing out my caches and happened to deleted -everything- from my phone, system included. There is nothing left on my phone except for Recovery. I managed to flash back to before I deleted everything (good thing on my part remembering to flash everything again).
However, I am still stuck with these white lines going across my screen. I have read the fix for this, but I am utterly lost in how to actually proceed. =(
I was hoping someone would help me out with this barney style.
Anything and everything is appreciated!
EDIT: I've gotten to where I go to the downloader on the phone, but I am having immense issues with ADB as far as flashing the updated kernel onto my phone as fastboot does not recognize my device, or sometimes ADB has multiples of my phone on the device list, which makes the program inoperable.
If you have white lines in system after screen off you must flash a patched jdi kernel. Search little kernel flasher for kernel patch

[Q] How to change boot logo?

Please say if I've missed an old how-to guide specific to the Nexus 4! (A link would be helpful in that case
Is there an easy(ish) way of changing the boot logo? My phone is rooted so that's not an issue, and I have ADB, but I'm inexperienced with it so if the method requires that, please include a detailed guide so that laypeople like me can follow
Many thanks to anyone who can tell me anything here.

a boot logo is not the same as a boot animation.

I have ROM Toolbox Pro already, and I've used it to change my boot animation (among other things), but I don't think it caters for the boot logo (what is displayed before the animation is loaded). Small difference .
It may have this option and I've just not found it yet, in which case, do you know where to find it? Otherwise, is there another app or method I can use?
Thanks a lot for your answer!

you can not change the boot logo on a nexus 4 unfortunately, its in the same partition as the bootloader and very easy to brick if you mess up. so, at this point, no one has made it possible for us to change it with an app.

Thanks! It's odd though, because stock Nexus Android comes with just a centered white Google logo as the boot logo, whereas my CM has that with a little grey unlocked padlock sign underneath... Maybe they edited it themselves, or it's an Android way of saying the phone is rooted/the bootloader unlocked.

the liitle grey unlocked padlock is visable on any nexus with an unlocked bootloader. on the n5, someone did develop a way to change the boot logo, but i dont think anyone has tried his method on the n4, as it not working could also brick the device. heres the n5 thread for changing the bootlogo, if you would like to test.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/tool-change-boot-logo-images-t2763698

[Request/Discussion] Changing the Google boot logo?

So, since this phone is still very new no one has found a way to change the Google boot logo. (some call this the splash screen, I am not referring to the boot animation)
Word on the street is that the logo lies within the bootloader, so in theory someone should just be able to decompile the boot.img and replace it.
Any thoughts?
Back from the Galaxy Nexus days, (yeah, that long ago), Ezekeel created an app (found here) that lets you change the splash screen. Obviously, this won't work on the N6.
I only say this, because his app was the only way to change the boot logo on the Galaxy Nexus.
Never owned an N5, so I don't know if they managed to change the splash screen on it. I don't think it's easy on Nexus'. The MotoX has it easy because even non-rooted phones can change it.

You are probably thinking about the boot animation, which is an easily-edited zip file. I am talking about the "Google" text that first comes up.

You can change it on N5. Look at their Themes And Apps section, may provide insight for the N6.

The boot.img is the kernel and ramdisk, not the bootloader. Its the "boot" that the bootloader "loads".
Some of the older phones had a separate partition just for the splash screen, but I think common practice now is to include it in the bootloader.
since the first gen moto x you can change the splash screen logo by using fastboot, the has to be in a .bin format and size to are phone. the fastboot command is fastboot flash logo logo.bin
i tested this with the wrong size logo that i had from first gen moto x...so if someone can back up there google logo please that is much appericated. It is in the bootloader.img the logo.bin.
PLEASE DON"T TEST UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO BACK UP THE PARITION CAUSE AT THIS TIME I LOST ALL NEXUS ANDROID GUY IN BOOTLOADER.
Nice find...

Judging from my assessment of the startup logo files located in at&t's OEM partition, it should be fairly easy to customize it.
It also seems to use the same format as the Moto X.

I was thinking about this and was going to ask you to check lol which is why I'm in this thread. hit me up when you get up we need to figure out the size of the logo.bin. The ATT devices are taking advantage of this so maybe they can help with the size.

Do you feel like trying one? I've figured out how Motorola does it, but don't have a device to test on. If you or anyone else wants to do it, the command would be:
Code:
fastboot flash logo [i]logo.bin[/i]
It will work unless they have locked down your Logo partition at /dev/block/mmcblk0p30, but I doubt they have.
Traditionally the file is named logo.bin, but XDA won't let you upload bin files, so I changed the extension to img. You don't have to change the name to flash it, just substitute logo.img for logo.bin
EDIT: Always make backups....there
Can you make this flashable through recovery?
It is the same as the moto x 2014. I DD one to mmcblk0p30 and it worked.
Tested with the one made by makers_mark

Thanks for doing that. It's the same format as the moto x 14 but the nexus 6 has 23 images in it! To see all of them see my post here.
Here is a stock one with no unlock icon.
Can someone point me in the direction where I can download the boot logos that will work on the nexus? I'm excited to change the Google logo

Hi, I found out that the program I was using to create the Boot Screen, only had 3 screens updated,
you may have noticed that after flashing the BootLoader screen button info text moved to the center.
The new file below MotoXPureDarkFixed

The MotoXPureJBlueIce one is the Darker Glassy pic below, it also themes the BootLoader screen to a darker blue.

Unlocked Bootloader splash/boot page?

Presumably like all of you who have unlocked your bootloader, I am faced each time I boot with the garbage page with random text telling me "my software cannot be checked for corruption". Can anyone tell me where that page is stored (partition or folder) would be thankful for any information.

Its not random, and if you look closer its a bootmenu. you can get past it marginally quicker by just tapping power button or use it to boot to recovery, fastboot/bootloader, etc.
And you cannot remove it.
You can go back to b20...
@nujackk and @lafester .. Thanks both of you for your comments. @nujackk I accept that the screen is a way of booting into fastboot mode, I just never used it, before I installed TWRP I always used MiFav Recovery to boot into fastboot. I am presuming that the screen is an integral part of the boot image and I shall continue to try and hunt it down.
@lafester as always lol your comment.
If either of you are interested I am just going to set up a new thread in "Themes Apps and Mods" where I shall post 3 flashable zip boot animations and hopefully in the coming days I will add to them.

The screen is part of the bootloader image. I strongly advise you to just live with it since if you screw up the bootloader you're bricked.
Might I suggest you start by looking around in the bootloader unlock zip. Might give you some idea where it is or if it can be removed.
Also look at older list mentioning it, I remember seeing mention of other phones it's been used on, maybe someone has more info in one of those forums.
And I will look for those boot animations. If I can suggest a superman or superAndy would be nice
Good Hunting

I know what you are talking about - on older motorola phones we did away with it - it was just a stored image in those phones. Seeing as how here it is a fully functional menu I would bet any attempt to remove or replace it would most definitely brick the phone. I gave up on it a long time ago.
@lafester .. @nujackk .. @bkores .. @tabletalker7 .. Thanks guys for all your comments - I guess my next step eventually, there is no great hurry for this, is to make certain I have a couple of good backups before messing around with disassembling the bootloader and boot image. If I ever get anywhere with this I will let you guys know.
@nujackk I note your comments re the animations. I'm about to add another Andy animation to the thread but have searched in the past for usable Superman material without much success, however I will see what I can find.
Yeah I haven't seen many that were very good either, but keeping hope alive :fingers-crossed:
