My HTC U11' so display is reddish. Adjusting the color temperature only minimizes it. Anyone else facing the same issue?

Every HTC phone I've had. 3 HTC 10 and 4 HTC u11 all bad pink tints. Had to send every one back. Was hoping they had sorted it with the LCD 6

I had HTC One M8. It's display was perfect.
I asked for a replacement. The customer care guy said they haven't received any complaints regarding display so far. Mine's the first. I don't know if people don't notice it or if I got a bad one. I hope the replacement phone will have a better display since you can't return phones here in India; only replacements.

I've just received my U11+ from HTC club (Italy) and I've the same exact problem.
The brightness is a bit low and the bottom part (1/4) of the display is yellowish.
Does this problem affect all units? If it's true, I'll go for a refund

Some units fine, some units barely noticeable and some units too much evident.
I hope that an update will fix the problem or maybe let us adjust the bottom color leds.
I was reading the posts(Google translated) and there are many people with the problem.

i have to say im really happy with my screen. No yellowish marks on the bottom, not pink tinge, not even that much back light bleed. I must be a lucky one or my eyes dont work properly!

Just got mine today, no issues so far. screen is good, i can notice slightly that the edges are a bit darker but it doesnt bother me.

Thanks for your report, my unit is barely noticeable but, once I've noticed, it is definitely here. If some units are totally not affected by this problem I'll try for an exchange

No problem at all here. U11 Is brighter. But the U11+ looks sharper and more realistic. That said. Blacks are very deep for a lcd display.

Just got my U11+ and noticed a slight yellow bottom 1/3 of the display. Have you managed to fix yours yet? Does it get better?

After a few days of tinkering I've realised my screen is also tinted reddish (with the bottom 1/3rd being the worst). On DCI-P3's coldest setting does it only almost not look too warm. But at lower brightness it's still way too warm. It almost looks like an instagram filter is permanently on. My M8 has much crisper whites and comparing the 2 phones with the same photos, the M8 always looks crisper and better
When viewing the screen from an angle from the left, the colours look almost how I'd want them. But viewing from other angles it just gets warmer.
Is it worth all the effort of exchanging it for a new one? Did your new one come out better?

Hey, I would agree with your observation to some extent, but I won't call it reddish. I got this a day ago and my previous phone was a 3 yr old Oneplus One. U11+ is certainly on the warmer side and I have kept it at 50% beyond the middle for DCI-P3. But I don't find any particular difference viewing from left or right. It certainly has a softness which I can't really comprehend, is it the higher resolution from my OPO or the warmer tone, no clue. You may try exchanging if possible and see if it helps since you said your bottom 1/3rd is particularly showing difference.

I did notice it was a bit softer than my M8. Which is strange since it has a much higher resolution and DPI.
But I ended up returning it. The yellow discolouration wasn't working for me. Hoping to get a new one soon though. I miss my U11+ a lot - especially the camera and Edge Sense...

White balance on screen

I know z3c screen is cold but, i noticed
Whites tends to have a slight magenta tonality. Is it common or it's a screen defect.

I don't have any monitor calibration tool but I have a factory calibrated Dell monitor. I used photoshop CS6 and created a png file with 11 shades of grey, from white to black in 10% differences, then I loaded a copy to the Z3C and tried to adjust its color balance to match the Dell monitor. After countless tries, I gave up. Something is really weird about the Z3C display - when I got certain shade right, other shades got tinted.
My guess is if one of Z3C RGB isn't true, there's not much you can do with white balance adjustment. That's what separates a high quality monitor from a cheap one. And the Z3C is definitely made with low quality IPS panel. Such disappointment for a very nice phone!
I wish I can send my Z3C to a lab just to prove Sony fanboys are full of it but I'm not gonna spend any more of my money for this piece of crap.

All I could read from your post was "I can't deal with a phone that cannot please my superior and master color expertise, I want my money back".
They are not promising a beautiful display, which in my opinion it is. They are promising us a great battery and power in a small package.
Yes, colors tend to be artificially beautiful, translating to fake quality and low color accuracy. It is not really noticeable by common users, but it can be annoying for some, I guess it is something we have to deal with.

Thank you i tried, it was a lot in magenta tone and adjusting it gave back a not brilliant white. I Sent back phone to the shop, newest one has cold white, but not a magenta tone, probably a defective panel.

Hi, has anyone noticed that the half bottom of the mate 20 display has yellow tint compared to the half top? A Huawei warranty agent had already checked my mate 20. And he said that i could exchange for a new one if it does not have the same problem as my old mate 20 had. I have watched some Youtube mate 20 unboxing clips and I thought some of them had that yellow tint issue too. My two previous LCD phones have light bleeding but not the yellow tint like this. How about yours? I'm a little worried right now!

In the first picture the defect is exagerated , the second one is a iphone XR wich seems to have the same problem and the third is the mate 20 original picture.
I think huawei lcd screen technology is bad, the new exchange phone of me still has that yellow tint just not that much like before. Do you know why is that happen?
Yes, same goes to me. I visit service center once and talk with the technician. Seem the problem occur is quite rare in my country. (malaysia). But, he ask me to keep update if the yellow tint become worst.
I have the same a slight warm white on the bottom, and a slight bleed, sometimes is difficult to see, it depends of light and brightness conditions.
So I was thinking in exchange it, so what is the odds of getting one better?

That is what im thinking but currently they still fixing mate 20 pro bleeding issue. So, i don't think its a good time to replace due to waiting period will be longer than it should. ???
apparently the phone panel has a strong yellowish tint and to remedy that choose vivid cool .. this will make whites whiter not yellowish .. with colors set to vivid cool i still do notice the yellow tint in the lower screen and bleeding light but they are very minimal and i am called a pixel peeper .. at least this will make whites whiter not yellowish
but the other problem is the over-saturated red color .. not only that when you tilt the screen and videos is full screen contrast is enhanced and colors becomes over-saturated automatically and this makes a lot of videos looks overly saturated in landscape mode
I haven't noticed that. Seems perfect to me.
Little update, I'm in a second unity, and the screen is more uniform, but white is more a warm them the first, even trying to compensate with vivid setting and adding more blue, the color temperature is diferent.
Regarding the backlight bleeding is less visible also than the first unity.
So I think is kind of lottery having a perfect screen.

Clarity/resolution

The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.

This is the first time I use a phone that has Amoled screen. I heard about color shifting which happens to Amoled screen but I still curious. Does color shifting happen to your devices ?
For mine, when I tilt the phone, even a little bit, I see the blocks of color turn from blue (cool) to pink (warm) and backward. This only happens on white background. If the view angle is 90 degree, its fine. But if it greater or smaller than that, about 60 degree, it's just like a rainbow is moving. Kind of annoying

Ive been using OLED screens for the last couple of years, mostly from Samsung, as is the one on the Mi 9 SE. They have never had any issue of the sort. I have however seen such a thing on the panels used in Blackberry phones.
The SE seems like the only device out this year that ticks my boxes as far as size and display quality, i would dearly like to know if sammy is delivering sub par screens here.
I have to say i am skeptical, so some proof would be appreciated.

Not sure if any stores here in the UK have the mi9se that I could try out before purchasing.
Pocophone I've just bought is lovely, but just a little too big for me coming from a mi6,which is why I'm considering the mi9 se.

Honestly I'm not seeing a big problem there... But the resolution isn't great. Someone below said the A50 display at the store was better but it too has an original Sammy screen, also manufactures in Vietnam.
Mb a good quality photo?
Also, what about the issue with the notifications? Ant solution for it other than AOD?

1 month used and I think I get use to it. Maybe after I checked Mi 8, it also has the same issue. So I guess this is actually not an issue anymore
I also hope for solution replacing notification light. Heard alot about "the dot" but after many attemps with many apps, the choosen one is still missing I guess.
I have a Pixel 3. The Mi 9 SE, despite technically having a lower PPI value, is noticeably sharper. I imagine this is because it's not using the Pentile layout that the Pixel 3 screen has.

First impressions of my 4 XL is the screen is yellow and warm face on, cloudy white, not impressed with the screen so I'm contacting Google today, the text on my 2 XL is clearer, the last thing I expected with the 4s was dodgy screens.
The color on mine was fine. I wonder if there are manufacturing defects with the 4XL that were present when the 2XL came out.

It's looking like that, mines warm, I prefer the cool look and seeing as Google doesn't put anything in their software to adjust coolness or warmness I'm not liking it, is yours pure white face on? Does it go any whiter when tilted backwards about 30 degrees?
Got a replacement coming 25-28th now, I'll see how that is.

You got a good one then nice, i had this problem with the 2 xl and almost gave up until i received this one i have in my hand, hard to compare with photos online because cameras are poor at white balance anyway when taking shots of other phones but in hand it's worse than my 2 xl which is surprising, my guess is Samsung is cherry picking displays for themselves first,
Just curious, but what color did y'all that are having problems, receive? Shouldn't make a difference, but that's the only reason I could see reviewers not mentioning it, as most of them got the orange one. Maybe it's coincidence, maybe not. But I thought I would out that out there

I really hope you get a better replacement because I'm real happy with mine. I was finally able to test it in direct bright sunlight and it was fine there too. Yes Samsung is brighter but I didn't have a problem reading the screen like the 2XL's and 3xl's I had. The 2xl was the worst out of the two but the 3xl was worse in direct sunlight for me. I wish you the best on your replacement and it sucks you have to go through that.

Glad your happy with it, this yellow is not something i can live with unless the manufacturer puts in settings and configuration to suit everyone, when i look at my tv then look at the phone I'm about to ship back I'm disappointed, I've noticed this white looks slightly better in bright light but in a duller environment the yellow shows it's rear ugly head, will see what happens in a few days when i get the replacement if that's the same must be how they've calibrated the screen this time, enjoy yours ?

This is what I've been reading about oled the last few days, there's just no consistency, considering how long oled has been out now it's shocking to be honest, if I bought a red ferrari and it was delivered light red I'd be pissed, should not be happening in this day an age, to be honest I'm beginning to think QC is just not there with Google, I've had Google phones since the Nexus 5 and never had issues with screens until the pixel 2 XL, no surprise since everything changed to oled, apparently it's a big issue with oled TVs too, read some bits some people have to watch their TV at a 70 degree angle to get pure white, it's just shocking.
Brightness sucks
If i return this phone (Pixel 4 XL) it will be because of the extremely poor brightness on this screen (i probably will return). The Oneplus 7t is better than this phones screen and cost $400 less. That's just pitiful.

I'd have to keep it on 100% brightness a lot of the time to get it where i want, with the Oneplus 7t and iphones, samsung galaxy - don't have to do that. Its just really low, and I think it's something with the way Google set it up that they could fix with software, but probably won't. Either way not paying $1000 dollars for this.

No problems in the bright sun for me either. I tested mine on my morning walk and throughout the day with no issues reading the screen. This was a concern to me because the 3XL was terrible in the bright sun and I ended up returning it because of that. No, the 4XL isn't the brightest but it works fine. I've been testing it out along with a Note 10 + since yesterday and the Note is going back.

Yeah google ****ed that up in a update to android a while ago, mines 95% used to be around 60 ish, why they ****ed about with that is anyones guess.
But yeah OLED screens are a lottery, you either get lucky or the fact is probably a lot are actually yellow but a lot op peoples brains can't register or see it and they think it is white and they have no issues, See here on this link, more people actually voted there is tint issues than not.
https://www.avforums.com/threads/oled-yellow-red-tint.2119862/
Also Google uses LG oled screens, they are notorious for tinting problems in their oled tv's too, Don't know what the screen is the 4 or 4 XL but mine is ****e, luckily a replacement will be here tomorrow and if there is a big difference it will just go to show how poor either oled screens are or googles quality control is non existent, i read somewhere on a review on the 4xl screens (can't remember where now) and he says every single pixel 4 screen is calibrated at a factory, for a start that's absolute bull****, even expensive tv's are not calibrated individually, it takes way too much time so the fact there is so much variance in oled tells you where the problem is.

The slider adjustment was to make the increments more linear. Before, 50% on the slider was more than 50% of what a screen's brightness was actually capable off. So the difference between 0-50% was greater than 51-100%.
That being said, the dimmer than iPhone and Samsung's screens has nothing to do with it. The Pixel 4 is rated around 444 nits while iPhone's and Samsung's can hit 800 and 1000+ respectively.

Color saturation & accuracy

If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Xiaomi Mi 10T / 10T Pro's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.

I am noticing the display to have a red tint at low brightness. Is it just me or this is actually a real issue ?

I bought the phone a few days ago and it had awful yellow/orange tint on white color compared to my Redmi Note 4 Global, and it was worse with lower brightness... therefore entire color palette was off, tried to make it to be more blue in Android display color settings but no success, actually returned the phone, not this for such money. (Europe market)
I don't know why but I can't look at the screen for too long, I get a terrible headache. Also the white is not white but red. I wonder if xiaomi will acknowledge the problem and fix it via warranty
I don't consider this to be normal though ...

Return your phone if possible, I compared your display to mine, and yours seem to be not calibrated?
did you check your color scheme under display settings?

That's exactly how mine looked as well.
Good thing I was not alone with this...
I noticed it changed at night time. I disabled reading mode but it still changed to this colour. Same with when you watching HDR quality video in youtube.
For me it's has the same tint on all possible color settings when the brightness is low, which is driving me nuts. Too bad since it was a decent phone for the money. I cannot return it though.
I have a reddish tint on white when the color scheme is set to original.
On Auto, white is pretty much ok.
For people with yellow tinting, consider if you might be affected by this

I was about to return mine until I saw it and now my screen looks perfect.

This is happening to me aswell. European version having a yellowish/red tinted screen, which doesn't get fixed with the adb commands linked by getaceres, and I also get heavy eye strain and I even feel dizzy after a while staring to the screen. I'm in the process to try to get a refund

Pulse width modulation vs current modulation. The pulse width modulation is irritating to some especially in low light. Some devices allow you to choose between the two.
This seems to have become as issue with the variable frequency displays.
What is 'DC dimming,' and why are phone screens getting it?

That's only available for OLED screens. My problem is not PWM, it's just the red tint. Compare it with another phone on a white background and you can see the difference right away
