I use this on my og xl from verizon. It's great, and allows you to make wifi calls with the cell radios off in airplane mode and wifi only turned on.
?Tapped from my pure pixelXl?

Ya, I copied the post from the other forum because it works well on the Pixel 2 as well.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

sorry if this is a stupid question, but what does this do? My pixel comes in tomorrow and I am on VZW. Im unclear what is missing / what this enabled you to do.

If you live in a ****ty cell area, this helps the phone choose WiFi Preferred instead of Mobile Preferred.
The handover to WiFi calling isn't that great and Verizon blocked the stupid menu selection to get WiFi Preferred.
This fixes that.

This works great, i have spotty cell service at home but the first few seconds of the call are always messed up as it switches to wifi and the other end cant hear me and I cant hear them.

Noobish question: are these secure settings the same as the build.prop file? (i.e. can this be used to edit other things persistently in build.prop)
Thanks.

[Q] Unable to edit APN settings

Good Morning, Afternoon, or Evening,
I have an unlocked and rooted (I haven't done anything besides download SuperSU and Titanium Backup) Sprint Galaxy S4 that I am able to make calls and texts with but I am unable to go on the internet. I am currently stationed in Belgium and am using Mobile Vikings as my service provider (irrelevant?) and all I want to do is access my APN settings so that I can go on the internet. But the "Edit Access Point" option in settings does not show in my phone.
Have I done this before with another phone? Yes, with an unlocked Sprint Iphone 4s in this country with the same carrier.
I'm unsure at this point what I need to do. Any help is appreciated.
this is solved in post #4
Thanks for the info! Now to figure out how to use it all... I'm new to all of this.
I got the phone unlocked through sprint.
Add the following to your build.prop file and reboot and the APN settings will no longer be greyed out:
Code:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
I personally hate the Touchwiz launcher and use Nova Launcher instead. With that, I was able to add a shortcut onto one of my homescreens to go right to the APN settings.
You'll also need to force the phone into WCDMA only mode (not WCDMA preferred, that doesn't work) or it seems to only want to use GSM/EDGE rather than WCDMA/HSPA (at least that was the case for me). Nova Launcher also let me add a shortcut for that hidden menu (called the Testing menu) since Samsung disabled the dialer shortcut for it. There are free apps in the Play Store that will also let you get into the Testing menu.
Thanks for the advice! I'm still lost in the sauce though about how to do all of this but I'll figure it out.
I may have found a solution over at the sprint forums to remedy the issue without messing with the build.prop file! It still requires root, but the guy over there did say it worked for him at least.
It looks like you'll need to do the following, assuming you can get your phone connected to WiFi.
Download the "Offline SIM APN Databse" app over here.
Using Titanium Backup, convert this app to a system app. This is necessary in order for it to write APN settings. To do this, open TB, go to Backup/Restore, find the app, select it, and it should be under "Special Features"
Open the app with your international SIM inserted and press "Look for Settings for this SIM". With any luck it should find the appropiate APNs for it.
Notice when displaying the settings found for your SIM, there's an option to select "Go to Android APN Settings". Without editing the build.prop however, you can not edit or add anything to this hidden menu.
Press "Add These Settings" to add the APN settings. Ignore the warning about it not working on ICS, it'll work as long as you converted it to a system app.
It'll take you to the hiden APN menu, you can confirm it was added just fine here.
That should be it. You can backup your APN settings beforehand if you want, which I don't think is 100% necessary since if anything happened then doing System Update > Update Profile should write the Sprint APN settings in. To back up, Download APN Backup & Restore, convert that to a system app, and Backup your APNs through it.
To get to that menu Ingenium13 talks about to set it to WCDMA only, you have to, in Nova Launcher, long press on the home screen > shortcuts > activities > settings > Testing (the first one). This will add a shortcut to the Nova home screen, go into it then Device Information and from there you can change preferred network type to WCDMA if you need to.

Any idea what's going on?

I have also unlock many Sprint GS4 .. after i would root the phone and download APN Backup & Restore and download Titanium backup and convert to system only and backup the Previous APN to creat a folder n than after i would push my tmobile settings xml ... thats the way i do my settings ..
option
Will this option work for a verizon gs4 flashed to cricket, As of now I inserted a vzw sim and get 3g, after toggling wifi I lose the icon. I have to pull the sim and reinsert it, after doing that I get 4g lte for the 1st 5 mins. However in the acces point names, I only have a VZW-INTERNET option and editing is greyed out as well. but with that said After inserting the vzw sim I get 3g but just about everything in the vzw-internet settings says not set, besides everything from MCC and down is labeled. So will this option work or not, Thanx in advance

If you are on NAE you don't have to do this. On stock you can edit apns. But yes add to the end of the build prop.
never mind sorry
Tried this on my Galaxy s 5 and now my APN menu is totally gone. Can't even see the APNs let alone them being greyed out.
FWIW - On both the current firmware versions of the Sprint S4 tri-band (OF1 ) and S5 (OF6) you can still (amazing they haven't plugged this hole!) manually edit the APNs from the ##DATA# menu. Amazingly you don't even need your MSL. After entering ##3282# in the phone dialer, you will get a menu with choice of "View" and "Edit". Select "View", then scroll down to APN Settings. This is great for enabling wifi tethering without rooting (http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/general/lollipop-hotspot-root-flashing-t3144350), among other things. I really can't believe they haven't shut this hack down yet...
How do you execute this edit for un greying?

/system/app mover is a small and free utility, just 233 kb in size, which lets you convert user apps to system apps and system apps to user apps too. I'm trying this one. However I'm still having issues with this whole APN business. I'll find a chat thread for my new hurdle.
Sprint S6 Edge Plus SM-G928P - Long Shot
:fingers-crossed: So I have the aforementioned phone and I am unable to add or edit my APNs. I have dealt with adding and deleting APNs on multiple handsets. This one though, is kinda new to me and is giving me a brain ache. I have 2 sims I can use and both are GSM. I have tried editing the build.prop file to no avail. I have rooted and flashed and downgraded and upgraded, used apps to try and access the restricted APN menu and all have failed. Am I just stuck like chuck here? Or am I doing something wrong on my end? I know this post is pretty old and chances are slim anyone will answer but in the chance that someone does, any help or ideas are welcomed and greatly appreciated and I thank you all in advance.

When I pull down notification and tap on my cellular network icon (there are two side by side - it's a 2 SIM card model) it opens a "Data usage" screen and then I have to tap on an icon that shows me another screen named "Sim cards" where I have a control named (Cellular Data) that allows me to turn it off.
Too much steps. That's why I asked.
Thanks for trying to answer.

For single SIM variant which the original poster did not specifically say it would
look like the screenshot. Which is only one click from pull down menu.
I agree it's a pain in the ass. I use a shortcut in Nova. It eliminates 1 click.

I took a look around in the Play Store and only found apps for the mediatek SoC dual SIM which of course isn't going to work here. I don't think any of the normal apps (widgets) that work on single SIM are up to the challenge. Last thought on this - maybe as time goes forward that some of the users working on custom Roms like CM & AOSP might be able to include some tricks for this kind of thing.
Anyone find a solution to this? The dual SIM version is a pain to disable data. Not to mention I want to have this done automatically with Tasker and I cannot right now... Thanks!
I am not 100% sure if this works with dual sim, however running Shell command in Tasker svc data disable/enable works great. Be sure to check root.
Don't have the Moto but 3G Watchdog includes a widget for toggling the data on/off by one touch on an icon. It works with Zuk Z1 which is a dual sim phone. Maybe you can try this.
gravitybox has this.also has toggle for smart network!

Verizon version missing options

So I've noticed that the Verizon model is missing a couple of options, anyone find any others?
Ability to change Font styles, it's missing
Battery saver mode is missing
It seems like they've messed with the Quick Settings bar
The first two on your list are not missing. I changed my fonts already, and there is a battery saver mode.
Fonts: settings> personalize> change theme> menu button on top left, scroll down to Fonts and pick the one you want, then apply it (you can change icons, sounds, wallpapers, etc in here too)
Battery Saver is called Extreme Saver and is in the Quick Settings bar.
Customizing the Quick Settings is not available, as HTC has disabled our access to the System UI Tuner.
Thanks man, I swear I did look for those, but this just goes to show that I'm not very smart. LOL
Is there a way to use a font that I purchased? I can't seem to find how to select it.

Thanks for the info, I looked at the Extreme power mode and that's not the same as the normal Battery Saver. It doesn't appear like you can add fonts that you purchased.
Yeah, I don't use the battery saver mode, so I don't know the difference between them. If you got the font from the HTC theme store, I would think you could apply it the same way as free ones. If you bought it from the Play store, I don't know how to apply that.
I figured out how to add purchased fonts, Settings/personalize/edit current theme/scroll down & select "font" , click the v arrow, next to fonts in the top left. Select "others", & if you've already purchased fonts then they should show up.

I am having the same issue on my Verizon HTC 10. There is an "Extreme Power Saver" mode, but no regular "Power Saver" mode - Why is this not on Verizon's HTC 10? The "Extreme Power Saver" is not what I ever want to use as it makes the phone pretty much useless. Why would a feature like "Power Saver" mode be removed?
There is no "PowerSaver" mode on stock Verizon handsets. The carrier claims that it interferes with the 911 requirements. Rooted Verizon handsets can reactivate the option through mods (I believe it's a SQLlite edit of a database; that's how it was on the M9). I had PowerSaver always running on my M9 once it was rooted.
For the powersaver mode, try this from a computer with working ADB
Code:
adb shell "settings list secure | grep power"
If it returns something that looks like this
Code:
hide_ui_user_powersaver=1
Then try
Code:
adb shell "settings put secure hide_ui_user_powersaver 0"
This does not require root if done from a computer. It will require root if done from a terminal on the device. This is what works on an M9 running Marshmallow. It may or may not work on the 10. You can also try
Code:
adb shell "settings list secure"
To get a list of all the settings.

So I just tried this and "Power Saver" mode is now present and I can turn it on and off, but when I try to go into it to change the settings I get a fault that says "Power has stopped unexpectedly". Could there be another setting that needs changed? I'll be looking through the list to see if there is, but thought I'd ask also.
I went through the list and the setting is showing "hide_ui_user_powersaver=0" , but it won't let me change the when the Power Saver starts.

Thanks for looking into this. I will have to try it on my stock XL. Bugs the heck out of me that its cellular preferred. I am in an area where VZ signal is terrible so there is a 5 second delay when I answer the phone for it to kick over to WiFi calling.
Confirmed working. I did this with terminal emulator and am now showing WiFi preferred and WiFi calling is actually on and working.
I must be doing it wrong. Opened up ADB Minimal, check to make sure my devices was connected. Tried typing in exactly what you said and I get "settings" is not recognized as an internal or external command.

Besides, this method I discovered was only tested on a Verizon Wireless SIM
Thanks for the info though

Fi defaults to cellular like Verizon, and I want it to prefer WiFi, which is why I tried your method and reported back.
I wonder why this hack didn't work. Very odd.
Are you sure you did it right?

I'm pretty confident I did, but I've tried it again and screenshot everything this time. Any thoughts? I'm on stock 7.1.2 with June patch.
Is this the Pixel? It's tons different than my menus.
Try adb settings list global and you should see the prefix wfc_
Give me that screenshot

Yep, Verizon-sold Pixel XL with Project Fi SIM.
FWIW, I tried changing wfc_ims_enabled to 1 as I noted it was 0 and that freaked the phone out.
Update-- Only down side to doing this, at least for me on Verizon, is:
1.) Visual Voicemail does not work. I have to turn WiFi off for it to actually play the messages. It will show the message on WiFi, but will not play for whatever reason.
2.) I now have to dial an area code regardless of it being in my same area code. If not it will give me a Verizon Error recording.

System ui crash with build prop edit

Just got my essential phone today. Rooted and did my normal phone setup which includes gmd gesture control. Everything was fine until I did a build prop edit I do on all my other phones adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" to the end to disable the navigation buttons. Every time I reboot, I get a system ui force close 2 or 3 time then everything seems normal. I'm not sure how to find the log file. If anyone knows what's causing this or might be able to send me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. Btw, loving this phone so far. Coming from the nexus 6 which is still awesome as well ?
All I know is because of the a/b partition, any change made to a system file, even if you just add a file and then remove it, will result in flagging the safety net. I didn't have any issues with my phone not passing safety net (still running stock Nougat, rooted with Magisk, Xposed, and substratum themes), but that's gotta have something to do with it. Did u get it figured out?

No calling it a night. It's been crashing every so often but am still able to use the phone. Do you know where I can find a log file?

Doing the build.prop edit to remove the navigation keys is the problem. The PH-1 does not like this for some reason. I have been trying to find a way to remove them and use LMT for navigation.

Immersive mode is what you want.
· Hide Status Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.status=*
· Hide Navigation Bar only type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
· Hide Both Bars type:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
· Back to normal/default state:
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
This Is Important If You Do Any Of The Above - If You skip this step you will have battery drain issues.:
Exclude Google apps
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=apps,-com.android.chrome,-com.android.vending,-com.google.android.gm,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox

Did you figure out a way? I used to use gmd auto hide but it doesn't seem like it works right since android 7. That and my ocd doesn't even like seeing them momentarily on a reboot ?
Edit: Overlooked the above reply. I'll give that a try tonight. Thanks

Will this keep it in immersive mode through reboots? And by excluding gapps, will that cause it to pop up when using those apps? I've never had an issue with the build prop edit until now. And I'm hoping when a good custom Rom comes out, I'll be good to go again.
This thread why I'm not ready for Oreo. Gravitybox is working great on stock Nougat. Long press Power for expanded desktop mode.

I'm using custom navigation bar. It's not perfect but at least it stops the system ui crashes
