S7 edge, Google Messenger, group messages in separate threads - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

My son's soccer coach sends group texts, I receive them and see 8 phone numbers for the group of parents. I can respond, and his texts always(?) show in this "thread". But... when another parent responds, it shows as a new thread/conversation for each parent. I'd like them all in one thread/conversation. In advanced settings I have group messageing set to group MMS, auto download check, simple char not check, delivery report check, none on SIM, phyone number is correct. Any ideas how to do this?
I'd like to stick with this app as I like it better than the other text apps.
TIA!

block fb sms

I have an interesting questionn - at least it is to me. Working with my daughter and facebook I've found that I have not control at all (technically speaking) over facebook messages to her phone. I am a t-mobile customer, I use family allowances but nothing set in family allowances will block the fb sms from coming in or going out. -this is interesting!
fb comes in as a bulk type sms, it isn't a 10 digit number that can be blocked.
fb messages are not logged as sms messages on the t-mobile site.
Even disabling the phone in family allowances doesn't stop the fb message from coming in.
Thoughts?
Yes, I realize there is more to working with my daughter and facebook from a parenting standpoint, I'm not here to talk about that My thread here is about the technical side of this. What if it weren't facebook? It seems there are sms type messages that can't be blocked from the phone.
isnt that an option from within the facebook website itself? i.e. 'send me a text when i get updates' or something like that?

Yes it is. But I, like I'm sure many other parents, thought that I could completely control this from family allowances. Since it's supposed to be an sms message and I can stop messaging in many different ways, I assumed that I could enforce our time schedule with the family allowances tool. But - I was wrong
So, yeah I can login to fb and turn that off, I really don't want to go that far with monitoring her though. I could turn the whole messaging service off on her phone, I'm guessing thta would do it - but I don't want to do that and I can go in and physically take the phone from her also - that's all a different subject
I thought it interesting for us phone geeks that a message comes in, isn't logged, can't be tracked, monitored, blocked or controlled.
gotcha.
............
I don't have a solution really, but I do suspect that it has to do with how the messages don't have a regular number...I'm guessing that when the fb texts come in, they're tagged with short-form number like "22622" etc, yes? I'm just assuming that based on the behavior of other bulk-source texts, from services like yahoo messenger, and banks, for example. (I have my account setup so I get texts with any account activity).
I would get on the phone with tech support (and not regular customer service, if you can help it) and demand to know why you can't block bulk texts like that...they may have another way than just your regular acct mgmt settings, but I don't know. That's where I would start if it were me
You can only stop the messages one of two ways:
Login to facebook and turn off the "SMS Notification" option.
Send the word "STOP" to the number that the notifications are coming from. This message has to come from her phone.
Both of those options seem to violate the strictures you have placed upon yourself. I guess the next move is yours.
I might also mention that accessing your child's facebook account without her permission is considered hacking and you could get arrested if she contacts the authorities. This is not a joke, there is a case going now along similar lines where a mother did this to a son.
You certainly can't control the time that these messages arrive. These are so-called "opt-in" services and do not count as regular SMS/MMS.
Slightly-Off-Topic
As a parent, I believe I understand your concerns: The messages come at times where your child should be in school, studying or sleeping.
If this is the case, you might consider creating a "charging area" in the family area (kitchen, living room, downstairs bath, etc). Everyone should leave their chargers here and then drop their phones off in the evening for charging.
Unless your child uses their phone as an alarm clock, this is not an unreasonable request.
This also gives your child the opportunity to build trust with you, as the phone will be left in a semi-public place, where anyone could check the phone for inappropriate content.

Mass/group texting

I do a lot of mass texting, and because you're only allowed to text 10 people per text I had to download a 3rd party app called group "group sms". So I sent all the texts out (about 140) and it says they all were successfully sent with 0 failed. Unfortunately some of the people that I have sent the text to say they never received it.
Has anyone run into this problem? Any suggestions? I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
Thanks
I THINK Handcent(sp?) allows mass texting. Please don't quote me on this as I don't use it. My buddy owned a sports bar and used to send out mass text on UFC nights for promo and he never mentioned having to do 10 at a time which would have been horridly time consuming.

Hancent does have group texting within itself.
I personally use and app called group text. I have encountered people saying that they did not receive a text from me but I just assumed it was on their end because the majority of people received it.
I use Group SMS and I have this same problem a lot! I prefer Group SMS because it actually appears as different chat strings within your SMS program. For some reason not every one seems to get the text though. I may have to go away from Group SMS if this is the case. My current SMS program is Chomp SMS which I like for texting but it sends group texts out as one big text and doesn't allow macro usage the same way Group SMS does.
Bottom line, if you're just looking to send out a few group texts with more than 10 recipients but don't want to change your sms program, I'd put handcent or chomp on your phone and just not set it as the default texting app, but use it to send out messages to your groups. Both Handcent and Chomp allow you to send to groups created in contacts.google as well (without selecting each contact individually like the native app).
Hope this helps,
Brian
I'm not sure how helpful this will be but with in gmail there is a utility from which you can send out mass text's or mass emails you have to set it up using specific servers for sprint, at&t, verizon and t-mobile. This is really only useful if you have a set list of people you want to send out texts to a list that doesnt frequently change. I apologize for not having more information as i very rarely use this feature. But it might be worth y'all taking a look.

[Q] iphone group messaging

iphone uses MMS to send single group threaded messages to each other, i have been added to a chat group like this, except for when i receive the messages from the group they arrive on my phone from each separate individual. so i cant really respond to the group.
I have tried handcent and go sms pro, but neither of them seem to work
i could use groupme, but that is an inconvenience to the other users of the group
there must be something in development or a loop hole that anyone knows about, if testing etc is necessary i could def help with that
With the default Android messaging app when you start a new message you can type in multiple contacts separated by commas
From something awesome

thanks for the reply but thats not actually what i am trying to do, that would send a bunch of people the same, but separate messages. I am looking to send the same message to a bunch of people in the same thread, like groupme does, but not with an app and using MMS just like the iphone4 does
anyone got an idea?

[Q] group texting

I've looked throughout the forum and I haven't found any concrete answer to my problem. Is there any way I can receive group texts across platforms? So if my friend sends a text from his iphone to multiple people (including other iphone and android users), it will show in one thread? If there is a solution, can someone post step by step instructions? I saw that ATT messages does this but I don't like the UI. Sorry, I am new to android and would really appreciate the help.
EDIT: Also, if my friend sends that group text, if does show up in a thread, when I respond I want the app to respond back to everyone in that thread....thanks for the help guys
Without a 3rd party app, it's not possible. If your friends get Chat On or Whatsapp (I have both and they are both very good since they use data instead of cell to send messages. Also super fast), you could group chat across all platforms.
EDIT: Also some extra info about the apps, they are connected to your phone number so as long as anyone installs it, you will see them on your list. No need for usernames or anything, it uses your number. I also prefer the Whatsapp app because I guess it's a bit cleaner you could say but they are both good.
You can do group texting with Handcent and goSMS...need to enable an option in settings.

Group messaging problems and getting back replies as individual messages

So I have seen stuff all over the web about this topic, but have yet to find an answer. I am one of the many folks that has a problem with group messaging not working correctly. Here is what I have noticed so far.
If I use my stock messaging app to send a group message, it ALWAYS sends out as a group message.
When using Handcent, sometimes, yes just sometimes, when I send out a group message, it will send to each individual contact in that group message. Most times Handcent works properly though. Then every now and then, it sends all individual messages.
Anybody with an Iphone, or another Sprint Galaxy s4, I have no problems with. Theyre replies always come back as a group text
One friend, who has an android on Verizon, when he replies to the group, I not only get his message as if its just coming from him to me, it is also blank, and I cant read it.
Another friend, has an android, not sure what provider, but his messages can be read, but they also come back to me as individual messages.
Is there a different ROM that will solve this issue? I am using Stock 4.2.2, but it is rooted.
This is really annoying, so I wanted to see if anyone has figured this out yet.
me too
This is very annoying to me too. here's what happens to me.
My s4 is on Tmobile prepaid(has been for years since flexpay)
I use Google Voice for calls n text.
I use the native sms app to send/receive.
I use google voice to send/receive and to start my group messages.
Now my native app is starting to not send long messages, roughly 20 characters or more.
Same for my google voice app since the new yr.
I can send out group messages from my google voice app but the replies come back as individual.
All 1,500+ of my contacts use my google voice number to talk to me.
I dont know if this is related but I use Google voice build 0.2.2.80 and will not update yet.
I've attached my version rom. I've used Jovy xtremeperia rom for yrs and its been the best rom I've used thus far. I jus started having issues a month ago with group messaging. I have not done anything different and I never update apps or my rom unless comments say otherwise.
someone please help us if you know anything. I do not use my regular number so if this issue is google voice related please advise. Thanks in advance
