[GUIDE] Enable DT2S without entering in conflict with fingerprint unlock [NO ROOT] - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

How to enable DT2S without entering in conflict with fingerprint unlock
Hi guys, i recently found a way to enable the DT2S (Double Tap To Sleep) feature on our Honor 8 without giving any administrator permission. As you probably know, when using any application for DT2W it requires the "Device Administrator" permission to immediately lock the screen, but apart the fact that this option could be potentially dangerous, giving administrator permission enables a security measure wich consists in PIN immission right after the screen has been locked (and you try to unlock it with fingerprint). But this method seems to work flawlessy, avoiding the nuisance to insert a PIN everytime the device gets unlocked. The process is quite easy and can be achieved without root, but there are some requirements that i'm going to list below:
You must use Nova Launcher Prime as home screen replacement
You must to be on Android Marshmallow 6.0 or Higher

1. Open the Nova Settings and select the "Gestures" option
1. Take a look at the arrow in the first attachment
2. Select the "Double Tap" option when shows up
2. Take a look at the arrow in the second attachment
3. Select the "Shortcut" tab on the right
3. Take a look at the arrow in the third attachment
4. Select the "Lock screen" option
4. Take a look at the arrow in the fourth attachment
By following the steps above you'll be able to take advantage of the DT2S lock method without compromise the fingerprint unlock function. BTW i don't know if this is a functionality or a bug (i don't think it's a bug), the only thing i know is that it's working good with no problems, also after reboot and shutdown.
PAY ATTENTION
I'm actually using the BETA 5.5 version of Nova, not tested with regular version
Hope this post could help someone Enjoy!

I use Nova Launcher to DT2S without Enable device admin or timeout. Just goto Guesture of Nova Settings, choice shortcut then select Screen Lock. All done

I didn't understand if the P.S line was sarcasm or not. However if you knew that, good, but not everyone knows that. If you just go in Gestures/Double tap/Nova/Lock screen it doesn't work because ask for admin permission, but if you go in Gestures/Double tap/Shortcuts/Lock screen that works. I just wrote this to help someone who didn't already figured this out

[Q] How to add a password on nook rooted

Hi
Thanks to the forum, I have rooted my Nook touch. I can access my emails and the market. But nothing is protected.
Is it a way to add a password to the Nook? or how can I set up the apps so they asked for a password.
Thanks
Secure your hacked Nook
There seems no solution to this at this moment but there are some workaround security mitigations.
1. Do not connect public Wifi to use your Nook. Use your own private Wifi and turn on AP isolation (i.e. Wifi clients on the same WLAN are isolated)
2. Install on Nook adbWireless and control adb ON/OFF over wireless

SC Leung
Securing after TouchNooter 1.6.24
Would reverting to the original uRamdisk of the stock Nook touch make it secure?... i know it would make adb over wifi unavailable but if that is fine with me...
Somewhere on the forum is attached ramdisk that should enable adb over usb. The topic is something like "adb over usb"..
If you wish to lock single apps, I have had great luck with Protector. You can define any apps you want to be locked and when you try to open these apps, they ask for a password.

I have not tried it on the new Nook myself but give it a try.
Lock
Use GoLocker
Go locker does really add number lock (iphone style) or connect-the-dots lock (android style) but they tend to leave a shadow on the screen, which was bothersome enough for me to stop using, and the number lock would show the number before becoming a *, so someone could look over your shoulder and pick it up...
Almost good! But the best choice so far for entire NST locking so far!
GO Locker: so far, little luck
Downloaded Go Locker.
It detected an outdated Go Launcher; I approved the download.
Enabled Go Locker and specified a PIN.
Cycled power on the Nook.
Behavior change: I can select among Go Launcher, Go Locker and Home when I press the Home soft button on the right of the screen. Makes sense.
But no request for a PIN.
Perhaps I missed one or more configurations steps?
Any suggestions?
Best regards,

You need to set GO Locker as the default so you can't just press home to bypass the lock, and when you reboot it doesn't start immediately unfortunately. But next time you lock the screen it should be there.
Thanks. I set the Go Locker as the default, but I did not see the locking work after reboot, nor how to lock the screen manually.
But my main concern is that approximately 40% of the screen was going grey, making icons and text in that area unusable.
So I removed Go Locker for now.
Is documentation available somewhere? With a quick check of the developer site I did not see enough.

Low Vision: Toggle "Magnification Gestures" With Widget

Hi I just got a Nexus 6p and its been great but I have low vision and if I keep the option turned on the phone, it becomes very laggy so I would like to only use it when I need to.
Help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you .
This isn't exactly what you wanted, but it's kind of close...
I use ADW as my launcher, which allows me to set custom shortcuts on my home screen. Other launchers might offer the same functionality.
I long pressed on my home screen and selected the Add tab on the popup. I then tapped Custom Shortcut, and tapped "Pick your activity." Next, I tapped Activities, scrolled down to Settings and expanded the list. It's rather long, but in that list there is one called "Accessibility(.Settings$AccessibilitySettingsActivity)". I selected that one, gave it a name (what it displays under the icon), and pressed OK. This created a settings gear icon on my home screen that when tapped goes straight to the accessibility options in the settings menu, and then you can tap the toggle for Magnification.
Alternatively, you should be able to do the same thing with Tasker if you have it installed and it's a bit easier. Make a new Task, give it a title (anything) and press the plus to add a step. Select Settings, then Accessibility settings (first option). There is some "if" options, but you can just tap your back button to go back to the step list. Create a widget for Tasker (1x1 task) and select the name of the task you just created. You then need to select an icon for the "widget" by tapping the icon in the lower right that looks like 9 squares in a grid. There are a bunch of built in icons you can choose from, or use your own. The result will be an icon on your desktop that goes to the accessibility options screen, allowing you to quickly toggle the magnification gesture.
Again, sorry this isn't exactly what you asked for, but it would save some taps. Luckily the mag gesture toggle is high enough in the list of options that it should always be on the screen when you open the accessibility settings, so you won't need to scroll.
Lastly, if you are rooted, you could use Tasker to also hit the toggle for you. If you want instructions for that, please do let me know and I'd be happy to share how to do that. It would allow you to tap the "widget" and it would then launch the accessibility settings, wait a second and then tap the toggle, and go back to the home screen. That way you wouldn't need to toggle it yourself.

Thanks a lot!
So it sounds like theres no way to make a widget the will toggle it specifically, without rooting my device.
And if I do root it and use Tasker it will take almost the same time as if I didn't.
If thats no other way then I guess I should root it even though Id prefer not too.
Unless theres another way, Instructions would be great! Thanks again!
Are you familiar with Tasker? It's a paid app, but it's absolutely worth it and you'll find lots of uses for it. I use it to auto reply to text messages while I'm driving, mute my phone when I'm at work (calendar based) turn on wifi when I'm at home (location based), etc.
First thing you need to do is find the location of the toggle on the screen. Go to Developer Settings and turn on "Show Pointer Location". This will make a gray bar at the top of your screen that lists your X and Y coordinates at the top when you are touching the screen. Go to the accessibility settings and touch the toggle, taking note of what the X and Y coordinates are for that touch input.
To simulate touch input, can make a task that opens the accessibility settings as I described above, then add a "wait" command (Task > Wait), enter a value of 1 second. Next enter a command for Code and select Run Shell. Under the command, type "input tap x y" where x and y are the x and y coordinates that you found for the toggle. Make sure the "use root" box is checked. Lastly, add a Tasker command to go to the home screen (back to where you started with the "widget").
Back all the way out of Tasker to save that task, then go back in and press the play button at the bottom left side to test your setup. You should see it launch the accessibility settings, wait a second, toggle, and go home. The first time you run it you will need to grant Tasker root permissions, so be ready for that. If you're not quick to approve it, the task may proceed and go to your home screen before you press approve, so you might need to run it again a second time after you approve it.
If you need more help with, or have any questions, please do let me know. Happy to help.

Before I go ahead with all of this work, your completely sure there is no other way to toggle magnification without rooting?
Thanks!

Sorry for the delay. I am not aware of any widgets. I couldn't find a widget on the Play Store or light Google searching.
Regarding the adapter, the 6p should have come with a short USB A to USB C cable specifically for connecting to a PC.

Have you used the built in magnification gesture? You turn it on in accessibility settings, then when you need something to be bigger, just tap the screen 3 times rapidly. You can use pinch to zoom to adjust the text size. When you're finished with it, tap the screen 3 times again. I use it when an app's text is just too small.

Haha Yes I have tried it you have to tap your finger 3 times to magnify which means every time you tap something once it waits to see if you will tap more times and cause slight lag.

Lol I was so excited for my new phone I never checked but I found it !
Thanks I will root it when I get the chance.
i have the same exact problem,i absolutely love the feature as i wouldn't be able to use any phone with out it but it also gets frustrating sometimes (the touch delay) for example in the dialer app or Instagram.
a toggle in the notification panel would be great or an app through which you specifically enable/disable the gestures for each individual app.
any other alternative would be appreciated, somebody posted the same issue here with a possible fix (which i am not exactly sure how to implement) https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39685

Nice to know I'm not the only one.
Sorry for the late reply been busy with school. It would be nice to have this option maybe like a button shortcut .
Hey guys so that way of using tasker is very slow and not feasible.
Is there any other way of making a quick toggle magnification gestures. It would be nice if I could hold the menu button to enable it. (IPhone tripple tap home button to toggle)
Thanks again.
I have low vision as well and have also found that leaving the magnification gesture turned on causes the phone to be laggy even when I don't actually have the magnification turned on. Instead of using that, I rooted my phone, changed the global DPI and I use App Settings (an Xposed module) to increase the font size in some apps or force the standard DPI in apps that have issues with the custom one.
There's a gestural workaround I've employed: if instead of just putting down my finger I drag my finger slightly (in any direction) then the lag almost disappears. Doing this helps a lot but obviously its a bit of an awkward gesture.

There's no set up. I just do that gesture to get the scrolling to stop when I have magnification enabled.

Fingerprint Unlock not enough - OOS 3.0.2 requires pin when locked unconventionally

So I just upgraded to the OOS 3.0.2 MM build, and there's a new issue that's greatly annoying me. If you lock the phone with the power button, the fingerprint scanner will unlock it fine. However, if you lock it with something else (as I do with both shake-to-lock and Nova's lock actions), it will insist on ALSO asking for the pin/pattern unlock once your fingerprint has been scanned.
Anyone find a way to disable this security feature while still having a fingerprint unlock in place? Neither Gravity Box nor the security settings are presenting any obvious options
That's a feature of Android MM, not OOS. It can't be disabled.

There is no way to disable it? Even rooted? No xposed or system level hack?
It seems to be an error in design of Nova launcher and other solutions. They don't use the correct way of locking the phone hardlocking instead of softlocking, and therefore the phone will ask for pin just as if you restarted your phone.

I had same issue when i used double tap to sleep in nova launcher prime.... i is because it uses device administrator to lock phone! I fixed by using root to lock my mobile....
Long story short you need your application to use root to lock your device!
But what if the shakelock app I use (and love!) doesn't use root....? It's sounding like I'm out of luck here. How have you managed to make Nova use root to lock?
I guess I'm more of an Apex guy, don't fancy Nova launcher even though I bought it a couple of years ago. I just double tap on top part of screen to lock, or press the power button, or let it timeout. For unlocking, I just use fingerprint, no fuss, no asking for code.
I was happy with Nova Launcher (which is currently on sale for $0.99 on the Play store), until I found out that it has a bug in voice searches from the Home Screen's search bar. It annoyed the heck out of me as it kept on complaining "App not installed" when clicking on the little mic. I had to click on the search bar and THEN click on the other mic that appeared, inorder to access voice search. Defeats the purpose of the voice search b/c I use it a lot while driving and I cant be bothered to be clicking through so many hoops. So I switched my homescreen launcher to Google Now Launcher, while keeping everything else Nova Prime.
For anyone interested, I have found a sort-of solution. Using a combo of Xposed Maxlock and Lockscreen Disabler, it's possible to have a lockscreen up that you can dismiss by using the fingerprint sensor. There's a fairly obvious downside in that it doesn't matter what fingerprint hits the sensor, as anything at all unlocks the screen (which is Lockscreen Disabler's function) but it works as a way to use a non-root lock method that still allows you to unlock the screen with just a touch. Until such a time as someone finds a better solution
I'm pretty sure that it's easy to write a simple apk that uses the root method to call the screen off function. Only if someone would write that
Why I tell that - because if You double tap the status bar - the screen locks and You can easily unlock it just with the fingerprint sensor... therefore, that function does exist already in the ROM.
Yeah, I've got the Nova rooted lock function working, so those actions or GravtiyBox stuff like double tap status bar will work and not require pin+fingerprint, but my specific ask is this way to lock the screen by quickly flicking/shaking the phone (which is GREAT and I don't understand what hasn't been included in stock) - none of those seem to use root to lock so this workaround is a way to have that convenient screen off + convenient fingerprint on.

Alternative launcher can't lock screen ?

Hi everyone!
I found this very annoying problem with my LG G6 when I use an alternative launcher and I activate the gesture double tap to lock screen the phone show me a message with write that this option is not allowed !
Nova launcher have a smart solutions like turn the stand by at 5 sec after the double tap ...it's work but not best solution in addition not all launcher have this options...
LG G6 have in stock the options double tap to awake/sleep ... Why launcher can't works with this ?
I really want fix this annoying problem I hope without root ...
Thanks in advance
I don't have root and use Nova and can unlock my phone with a double tab.
Have you made Nova a system administrator?
Well I think no ... If you don't have this problem.. could you please tell me how do this? Thanks in advance

I wish I could, but I've never had this problem - I've used Nova for a few years, starting on my G4 and it has always just allowed the double tap function, and no different on my G6.
I'd start though by going into the Phone Settings screen > Fingerprints and Security > Phone Administrators and enabling Nova Launcher as admin. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.
I tried your solution but now there's another kind of problem if I activate permission I can't unlock the phone with the sensor finger print ! It's unlock only with pin
Do you have the same ?
Do you use free or paid version of Nova Launcher?
I use the pay version but I have the same problem with all alternative launcher tsf shell for example...
I'm really the only one ?

Are you sure it isn't just asking you to unlock with a PIN for the first time?
I found this post, don't know if it will work not using Nova right now Quote: Go to gestures and click double tap to lockscreen and then choose root. It does work. If your having problems or dont have root, choose to set it as an administrator.
I already set like an administrator but it doesn't work ...

No it ask me everytime I lock with double tap
I found another strange thing .... When I lock phone with double tap on status bar all works perfectly..when I lock it doing double tap in other point of screen it doesn't work ...
Only remaining ideas I have then are to clear the data and the cache of Nova, then uninstall it (as well as any other Nova related apps you have like Tesla, Nova Prime etc). Reboot the phone, then reinstall Nova from the Play Store, then (if you have it) reinstall Nova Prime from the Play Store too.
Press the Home button (circle on the bottom of the screen) and when it asks you which launcher you want to use, select Nova and open it to then go through all the settings. Make sure you allow any permissions it asks for, and follow through with the set up. Then, once that's all done, make sure you make Nova an administrator as per my earlier post.
Hopefully that'll work!
Here is workaround for Tasker users:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=73462212
I read on the web that this annoying problem it's made because a security level introduced nougat that not allow to app to lock the screen ...
Anyway thanks to kulvetti now I solved this problem ! The solution using tasker it's perfect!!
Many many thanks!
Give a try to cm launcher and lockscreen. They provide better lockscreen and more customizations.

(Guide): How to enable custom launchers on Chinese ROM EMUI

Note: Please don't tell us how easy it is to change launchers in default apps, that has not been possible since EMUI 9 for chinese roms, see > https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...i-9-removes-default-launcher-options-t3853441
WARNING:RECENT APPS MENU WILL STOP WORKING
All credits to Web1n on Github for figuring out this method.
Here is official guide in chinese
App download on Google Play
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=web1n.stopapp&hl=zh
Steps:
(Note that this method needs to be repeated every restart)
- Install the custom launcher of your choice and ensure it is the only launcher installed other than Huawei home
- Install and setup adb on your computer
- Enable developer options on your phone
- Turn on adb debugging and adb in charge only mode
- Make sure your device is on usb charge only mode
- Install the app from link above
(note i am using a Samsung for screenshots as I don't want to mess up my main Huawei, but I got it working there through the same steps)
https://imgur.com/a/hYPkSiY
After installing app tap the right arrow until this page, tick the box to agree to TOS
https://imgur.com/a/2e3B2Vp
Tick second box
https://imgur.com/a/dKxEZwm
Tap right and you will be greeted with this home screen, tap the plus arrow
https://imgur.com/a/j1SzlFX
Tap second tab to look for system apps, find the app huawei home
https://imgur.com/a/3GgZfSA
Return to this screen, you will see the Huawei home icon, ensure it is greyed out, tap it if it is not so.
Done! Gesture navigation will no longer work but an app like fluid gestures work well enough, enable 3 button navigation in options and tap home to enjoy your new launcher. Your multotasking button has also just become useless...
Again, all credits goes to the developer

(note i am using a Samsung for screenshots as I don't want to mess up my main Huawei, but I got it working there through the same steps)

After installing app tap the right arrow until this page, tick the box to agree to TOS

Tick second box

Tap right and you will be greeted with this home screen, tap the plus arrow

Tap second tab to look for system apps, find the app huawei home

Return to this screen, you will see the Huawei home icon, ensure it is greyed out, tap it if it is not so.
Done! Gesture navigation will no longer work but an app like fluid gestures work well enough, enable 3 button navigation in options and tap home to enjoy your new launcher.
Again, all credits goes to the developer

unfortunately yes, huawei even went to the step of removing old vertical overview menu so that the only overview menu in these buklds comes from the launcher
Recent apps stopped working for me when I updated to EMUI 10 then downgraded because of this and now it works on EMUI 9. Thanks for this, was going mad for 3 days because I couldn't disable the stock launcher even though my phone is rooted.
For those now missing Recents : Swiftly is a circular gesture activated app launcher with its own Recents
I now have "Tap for Recents"
You can place Swiftly with a surface area (over where the middle icon would be on the dock) for activation on the bottom center. You can then tap or tap-hold for recents.
Make sure the middle position there on the dock is empty, so it doesn't have an app icon or folder. Make the rectangle big enough to activate Swiftly, but small enough not to overlap with selecting the input field of WhatsApp, Messenger, ...
In my Nova 5T I also lost swipe up for home (anyone else?) When I uninstalled the default launcher. So I use Fluid Natural Gestures for all of the bottom to swipe up for home.
The two overlay areas of these apps overlap but for me don't interfere with each other. You can also enable "immediate activation" in both for nice swift operation.
(I could choose between Nova and Default Launcher in Emui 10, I'm in Europe. But removed default because regularly it would switch back to Default Launcher)
Update: has stopped working
Feel free to still try as it seems to be different builds for everybody
.
Guys...i've done....but not with this method....
