Android 5.1.1 / Android 6 Intel Unit - Will a USB GPS receiver work? - Android Head-Units

Will it? I'm having GPS problems, it jumps all over the place even when Im sitting still, telling me Im moving when Im really not, telling me Im someplace other than where I am and even fails altogether and loses my position. I replaced the antenna, relocated the antenna but neither of these solutions work. Joying wants me to upgrade to Android 6 but Im doubting this is going to work. I dont want to send my unit in for hardware work but if I have to I will... in the mean time, will a USB receiver work?

Ouku Android Head Unit not getting GPS signal whatsoever... PLEASE HELP!

Hey all, I'm new here and any help I can get would be GREATLY appreciated!
I recently bought an Ouku android 2din radio from eBay. It is running jelly bean 4.2.2. It is actually a pretty sweet head unit and everything works.... except for one very frustrating feature. GPS signal cannot be detected no matter what I do. I have mounted the GPS antenna on the roof of my 2009 Mailbu, and it STILL will not detect a signal. I have also downloaded an offline GPS app (Sygic), as well as Google Maps, and Waze. Google Maps will find my location while sitting in my garage on wifi, but will lose location as soon as I pull out of the garage, even if I have data tethering turned on from my galaxy s6. I have also tried a handful of GPS fix apps - as well as letting them run out in the driveway for over 20mins to detect satellites.. None of them work. I am beginning to think that it is more of a software issue than hardware, due to the fact that I have routed the GPS antenna to many mounting spots with no luck ( I have also checked the antenna pin on the connector, etc. and everything is in tact). One of the main reasons I bought it was for the in-dash navigation! I am now considering a factory reset, but I need some advice as to the best way to backup my apps. Also, does anyone know if a factory reset will wipe the home page apps? I really don't want to do a factory reset, though.
I am desperate at this point, so anything.... ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Your gps antenna is broken, I got one with my head unit and it was faulty. Bought a new one and it works.

Pretty much what I am looking at just a universal double din.

Did a firmware update which was provided by Xtrons support, and also there's an issue with Tasker if you have Tasker automatically start your hotspot when it detects your phone connecting to the unit's bluetooth. You need to install an additional Tasker plugin to fix this, it's called "Nougat+ Tasker Tethering Control".
I have the same unit. Is there a way to prevent all apps from closing when the unit goes into sleep mode?

Mine doesn't do that, so I'm not sure.

I think I will put all apps I want to run on startup on the first tab then. Even tasker doesn't boot at startup/wake up.
Which firmware do you run now?
How good is this unit?
Pros and cons?
I'm thinking on putting this one on a LEON MK2 2007

I am pretty glad about this unit. Android has so much more options and capabilities than my older RNS510 unit.
Some cons that I have experienced is that the unit sometimes restarts itself. I am not sure yet what causes that.
And sometimes when I open multiple apps in a short period of time the unit freezes. The only way I got it to restart is to push the power button for +- 10 seconds.
In the 1 or 2 months that I have this unit, this only occcured 2 or 3 times.
One small little thing is that I wanted to use TomTom Navigation but the 3D view shows a blanco map with only the street names. So I just use Google Maps now.
And I found it very hard to get a decent reception with the DAB+ Antenna from Xtrons.
Overall I am glad with the unit. It is definitely an upgrade compared to my older version of the RNS510.
This unit responds very quickly and has a lot of options.
Let us know what your choice will be!
I'm thinking of getting one of these. What is the boot time?

If you really want to improve your DAB+ you got to find your antenna amplifier in your car and it should look like this... https://www.kufatec.de/shop/media/images/popup/DAB-Antennensplitter-fuer-VW-Golf-7.jpg it fits almost in every Volkswagen/Audi/Seat or Skoda
If so, you have to swap your FM amplifier with a DAB+/FM amplifier, i know Calearo ain't cheap but is european made and it works really well in my car, and i had to install a sharkfin antenna to receive DAB+ and GPS because i had no other option. (sorry for the many adjusted posts, technical problems)
Want to upgrade my android 4.4 MTCB - I use Tomtom as navigation. The PB88UNVP is interesting as is had 4GB RAM. I've read android 8 units have problems with the 3D navigation of Tomtom. Is there a known fix for Tomtom, or is it possible to install Android 7 on this device (don't know if there's a (custom) ROM that works with this device).
ok, got a PB88UNVP. Tomtom - no 3D navigation. Will use an other navigation app.
Unit works fine, but the WIFI connection is not reliable. When waking up, the unit tries to connect to a access point. Sometimes that functions without any problems, but other times it doesn't find any access points (while I know there are). Turning wifi on or off does not help. From time to time, the wifi can't be turned on or off (seems to be frozen on the on/off toggle switch).
I like the unit, bit the wifi problem is a big problem for me. Is this a known bug / problem with this or other devices?

yes getting the same problem on Xtrons PE88jccpl (Android 8, Octa Core) sometimes the wifi connects perfectly but other times getting authenticating, authentication errors. Also, having problems with the speed when its connected it starts out fast and perfect but slows down to .2 to .3 mbps after a couple of minutes. Xtrons support sent me a link to update and I updated both MCU and android but still getting issues. (I put the img and update.zip on a usb stick and once I inserted it asked if I wanted to update) Not sure if I am supposed to wipe the device after updating android

Thanks for your reaction. I also received the download link for this update. MCU 2.88_3 and Android image with build date 20180703.
I installed this update this morning. Checked the wipe everything' option to be sure to have a clean install.
Had the wifi not connecting 2 times today with the new update
I've not noticed the speed collapsing. I did download navigation maps (couple of GB) without problems. When the Wifi does function it functions well, the next time the system wakes up from sleep it's an about 50% chance it functions.
Have you tried downloading the speed test app to test?

Really tired of the Joying HU -- Thinking of building something custom... Need input.

So basically I've had nothing but bad luck. In short, Originally my unit would freeze and would also lose GPS signal on top of very poor internal or external microphone quality to the decree it was unusable, absolutely noone could hear me even if I shouted directly into the microphone.. I added a heatsink for the GPS issues... I then upgraded to the 6021 motherboard and still the external microphone and internal microphone are unusable. I tried using a splitter, tried using a different external microphone, tried without the external mic, nothing worked.. leaving me very frustrated but what is worse is the agent on here who I purchased the 6021 motherboard from has gone MIA and I cannot reach him.
I really want an Android Car Stereo, but I also want it to function properly.
Are the new Octocore Units any good? Do the Google Voice commands work as well as external microphone?
If not, What would happen if I use a Pico ITX Board with an I7 processor, installed Android on a solid state drive, added 8GB DDR3 RAM and paired it with a 7" display? How would I aquire touch drivers? Will I be able to get GPS to work? how about bluetooth calls and how would they be handled?
I'm interested to see what you turn up
I have parts you might be able to use, from the metal 2 DIN box and other Joying parts PM me if I can help.
Guys I need help.
I am extremely...extremely...pissed right now. I just blew off hundreds of dollars on a replacement Intel Joying unit (shipping, cost of the unit, wiring, ect) only to find it arrive DoA. It will not make bluetooth phone calls regardless of what I do. It will innitiate the call but there is absolutely no audio. All other bluetooth functions work. I checked settings on both my phone and the unit and everything seems fine. My older unit atleast was able to HEAR the call, this one cannot even do that.
I am done with Joying... This is my 4th replacement - I want to make my own unit now but I don't know where to begin. I was to use an Intel Mother Board and I want to beable to make / receive bluetooth calls but not sure what I would need to do to do that. I also want to run Android. Basically I want to build a Pico ITX minimum of Android 6 and minimum of 2GB of RAM, preferably 4GB and 16GB SD -- Not sure what to do about the screen, touch display / drivers, or audio for both music or bluetooth phone calls / microphone
If I'm forced to do Micro ITX I'd rather make a Windows Unit since I wouldn't be able to fit it where the radio goes.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try to get in contact with lbdroid (doitright). He is working on a HiKey960 unit to build it up from the ground. You can possibly find him via his repositories: https://github.com/lbdroid?tab=repositories. He had his track of work on the previous no longer existing carjoying forum. He is now active in the hikey forums.
Another option is to go for a Sony XAV-AX100/AX200. Look for superDave's posts/threads in the https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-auto/android-auto-general subforum

Android head unit NO WIFI

Hi.
I recently bought a 9210S android head unit.
The wifi is SHOCKINGLY bad. It wont pick up any close wifi and to connect it to my phones hotspot wifi, the phone litrally has to be leaning againt the unit and is extremely slow. It has done this since new (2 months)
I have taken the radio apart to look at the circuit board to see if there is an obvious wifi antenna but cant find it. I have attached the photos of the board, could someone pinpoint the wifi chip or antenna on it? Many thanks.
Failing that, can I connect some other wifi device to it like a USB wifi adapter (which I have) but how do I install drivers onto an Android unit?
Daz.

CarDongle

Has anyone tried getting one of these to run so that you can connect other Bluetooth units to control through your head unit? I bought one to be able to get my air ride and headlights through my Joying units. So far I haven't had any luck and I can't seem to find much info out there on them since there is such a shortage, I ended up taking one of the 1.0 since I was not worried about the nonworking GPS since the main vehicle I will run it in has 2 head units and can run GPS from the other. I did a search on here but didn't find anything, any help would be much welcomed
Figured I would share what I have been going through in case anyone else was going to make the same mistake, so far can't seem to find a way to make it work on a Joying unit
