[Guide ] how to enable fingerprint gestures - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

So while I was playing around with M10 prop files I discovered a nice find.
This is how to enable fingerprint gestures which was introduced in EMUI 5.1 and for thus device which has front fingerprint sensor. (includes honor magic)
!NOTE! This has been tested on Honor 8 and P9 running EMUI 5.0.1 and it might not work on older versions such as B389 or B391!

No need to edit product
Let's begin:
Navigate to product/etc/prop/local.prop
And add this two lines
[email protected]:
ro.config.hw_front_fp_navi=true
ro.config.hw_front_fp_trikey=0
This should be between
####### 7.PRODUCT INFO BEGIN
####### 7.PRODUCT INFO END
Else it most likely might not be enabled
Once added reboot to see changes. Navigate to settings > navigation key and select the top to enable gestures.
Now you can enjoy full screen without navigation keys
This will let you use
Home: tap and hold on sensor
Back: tap on sensor
Recent: swipe left or right to open recent

If you wonder what theme I use its not official anywhere.
It's oreo (mate 9) dark theme which is for substratum theme engine most likely with mate 10 spectacular theme icons and preview images.
Only thing that is different is theme number and name to avoid confusion for theme manager.

Thanks for sharing this ! Is there a way to enable both at the same time ? Sometimes it's more convenient to use the real buttons, when the phone is on the table for example. Great anyway ! ?

I've yet to say I found it by luck.
Also there some other stuff I have enabled in ui but won't share since
1. It's not working
2. Is untested
I have no clue if I'll share it or not. Just because too many people might try and nag about it isn't working or they Maybo succeeded to break something else.

Ok, editing prop file two times it works. Thanks, great work!!

It seems that just editing the file (even if you don't enable the off-screen navigation button) you loose the Fingerprint Quick Action feature.
I like lock and unlock by using the fingerprint. How could I solve?

Nice share buddy. Thanks for the trick.
BTW got this in one of the custom ROM but the issue was when this was enabled, fingerprint sensor setting was gone from settings. (Honor 6X)
Also this had some glitches mainly back and swiping it was opening google assistance sometime (not here but the custom ROM)

Can anyone possibly make a video tutorial for this? I'm pretty stupid when it comes to modifying andorid, I can take out navbars with adb but that's the limit of my knowledge lol. Also do you need root?

Honor 6 Plus Marshmallow update for UK is available.

Manual download for Honor 6 Plus (PE-TL10) in the UK is now available.
http://www.hihonor.com/uk/support/details/?DOC_ID=79627
1. Download zip from link above.
2. Unzip the zip file so you have update file
3. Place file in the dload folder on the root of your phone
4. Go into update app or settings > update, Tap menu and "Local Update"
Will post how it goes after I have updated.
Bad zip !! unable to extract !!
Sent from my PE-TL10 using Tapatalk
You must have had a bad download then. It worked perfectly for me.
Currently running marshmallow on my honor 6 plus, update went perfect, no errors.
Notable changes:-
New system animations and overl design.
New layout for the settings menu.
Expected marshmallow features such as Google now on tap etc.
Feels smoother than lollipop but time will tell.
Not sure about battery life just yet, only been using for about an hour so far.
New smart window view, changes with your theme and displays more than it used to.
Shortcuts menu has been changed to be able to limit how many shortcuts you can see.
Navbar at the bottom of the screen is smaller.
Battery % inside or beside the battery icon option.
Split screen apps (works fine but app compatibility is limited).
Redesigned recent app drawer, looks more like iOS or windows phone now.
Compass app built in.
Camera seems to take pictures quicker now in wide aperture or HDR mode.
Messaging app has been changed slightly but nothing major.
New themes available obviously.
Probably other changes too but those are the notable ones.
Some screenshots to show what it's like
Compass has a camera built in which is where you can see the shot out of the door.
Edit: There are also different view mods, adding screenshots for the options but not what each one looks like, restart required when you change view mode

I prefer CWM, but if TWRP works without messing up the partitions that will be fine as well.
Can you update to this from B260 (Chinese/English Android 4.4.2. version) ?

May be a different version then. This was the UK download and all the honor 6+ phones in the UK got the b332 update a couple of months ago in preparation for the marshmallow update.
I wouldn't know for sure if it would work or not

I have been able to root my NEM-L51 EMUI 5.0 with those instructions :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/development/twrp-t3588356
BE CAREFUL : it doesn't use official twrp, there is still some big issues with it, so do not use the twrp for other things than rooting your device.
Although I tested @miststudent2011 instructions on NEM-L51 and, even if i've been able to add the lines regarding OTG in the stock build file, it didn't make OTG work on the phone, even after reboot.

Well, i can't open it : each time i try to open the smart assistance menu, my phone quit settings and go for the home screen. I don't know what causes that, but i'll wait for other nem-l51 owners to test it, to see if it's only me and i need to do a clean reinstall or if it's not just me.

Unfortunately you cant get OTG support in P8 lite its kernel is different and we are trying to port it for P8 Lite from 4C.
If we get succeeded will post here.
Do check the thread once in a while.
Except OTG all the other options will work on P8Lite.

I think, flashable zip make no sense, because we have to manually change some values according to device.
& That key Value i.e key 96 could be different in other device!
For those who want to check, how to change Values (see that line: key 96 CAMERA)

It doesn't interfere with MIUI App Lock. Regarding PayPal I haven't tried with that, it's least likely it would hinder any of the other functionalities of the phone.

Thanks for sharing this information.
It works great on my RN4x.
I´m wondering if its possible to edit some kind of delay in seconds until the screen turns off? For example....if I keep on holding the fingerprint sensor for two or three seconds the display will turn off instead of turning off immediately.
Greetings

Delay in turning off would be better, I agree. Making it happen would take much more efforts in that case, coz right now we are simply assigning the FP as power button which is already configured in the system and it knows what to do.

I think on stable you only need to edit one file. And then save & reboot of course

But long Press also triggers the Powermenue, there has to be a way to ignore Tap and just react on long press or am I thinking this to easy? Searched the .kl but this has to be somewhere else. Maybe someone has an Idea?

Had the same issue. Boot into recovery and wipe cache / dalvik. Then everything is working again.
I would appreciate it, if you could put up the steps for the MI Note 5. Gf3208.kl doesn't exist on this model. Modifying the 2 pl files doesn't lock the phone via the fp. Thanks in advance.
Confirmed working with miui 9.5.4
By editing all 3 files...
Thank
Will this work on custom ROM android nougat 7.1.2
(Los14.1, aex4.6) etc ?

[UPDATE, works on MIUI 9.5.4.0] Get iPhone-X like Guestures on Redmi Note 4(mido)

Redmi Note 5 received iPhone-X like guestures in the last update, here is the procedure to enable the same on Redmi Note 4(mido) running on Latest Official Stable Rom 9.5.4.0 and Developer Rom(8.3.8).
Here is the Procedure-
1. Install BuildProp Editor from playstore.
2. In the line 387
Replace
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
with
Code:
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
3. Save and reboot.
4. Open Settings. You will see the option of Full Screen Guestures.
Tested on Redmi Note 4(mido) running Stable rom 9.5.4.0 and Developer Rom 8.3.8
Thanks would be appreciated. Hit :good: if it was useful.
Thanks for this, mate!
In my case (Xiaomi.eu 8.3.8) it was in Line 374 but not that hard to find
Going to try that now, great!

For me it's there, look for "Vollbildanzeige" (below Launcher) and in the next Menu it's on the right (Vollbild Gesten).
Sorry it's german.
Waiting for it to be ported to custom roms oreo

It's not enabled by default. Read the post. You need root, then you need to change value qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 to qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 in build.prop then reboot. You'll see a new option in settings under "home and recents".
I will try again
