Plastic Power Button - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I like the look of the panda phone, but kind of iffy since the colored power buttons are plastic instead of metal like they are on the black phone. Any thoughts on the use of materials? Think the plastic vs. metal makes much of a difference?

Glad I got the black

Are they definitely plastic?

Thanks though, so definitely plastic!

Google,
You don't make a aluminum phone and cover it in plastic. If you want to color it, you anodize it. If you're going to use plastic, make the whole thing out of plastic and include wireless charging. Also, lower the damn price. Nobody wants a plastic phone for $850.

I wanted the back to be more visible. But this case shows the back perfect but no sparkle effect. Much like the poetic atmosphere case just not uneven and blotchy like the atmosphere case is.

You can clearly see the Nexus and LG logo, but cannot see the glitter flakes.
The TPU part is all matte, not fully/partially glossy like most others.
The buttons are a bit mushy, so I cut a slit underneath the power and volume buttons for a slightly "clickier" feel.
I'm not sure if you can see in the picture, but the top and bottom of the front lip is higher than the sides of the front lip.
The lip is low enough on the sides that I'm not bothered by it when swiping from the sides of the screen.
Cutouts are all perfect.
man...i really like how both the clear and smoke look. can't choose!!
how it's hard to remove/to put back on?
The case is very easy to install and remove. If you are familiar with tpu cases, this one is just slightly more difficult because it seems like a more rigid tpu.
You won't have any difficulties.
I also have an XO skin on the back, and the smoked plastic does not stick to it.
No "waterspots" are created.
The case did lift my front, full cut XO screen protector.
I recommend a case fit version or those regular hard plastic ones that doesn't cover the entire glass.
Thank you all so much for posting this case. I've been looking for one like this for months. Just ordered the clear one.

It is a slight imperfection from the molding process. It is noticeable in direct light, but has not bothered me enough to request a replacement. It would take a good amount of impact to break or crack this plastic. The surface is completely smooth where the imperfection is. Ebay cases..... you get what you pay for....

Best way to clean the earpiece speaker grill?

So far I've tried canned air, a speaker cleaner app, a qtip, tape, microfiber cloth, and vacuuming, yet my speaker grill remains gray from dust. This doesn't just affect this phone, everyone phone I've ever had has this issue. Anyone got a method I haven't tried?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I use my dust destroyer!
It worked for me. You can try to make your own little q-tip using a tooth pick and just a small amount of cotton and make your own little q-tip and use that to clean.
If that doesn't work, you can always try WD-40. Lmao. I'm kidding.

Would compressed air be a good option? Along side a cottonbud?
I am very interested in this subject. Subscribed.

Compressed air works well so far. Sorry to hijack, but what is the red light on the right side of the earpiece speaker grill? Does everyone have this? I looked and couldn't find anything about it.

No. Have you ever seen a HOX with the light in the speaker grill? It looks like that! It may be a piece of red glitter that's stuck in the grill, but it looks just like a faint red light. Compressed air didn't get it out so I figured it was a light!

I find that compressed air with the straw attachment works perfectly.
I use a soft toothbrush to clean out the speaker and all of the fine particles of dust and lint that seems to get stuck between the bezel and glass at the top.

How about compressed air and maybe a bit of blue-tac, not too much as you dont want it going between the mesh. Could be a good idea (Or horrible on thoughts?,)

White/Black versions' covers

I'm sure some of you know by now that the white N3's back is hard plastic while the black one has a soft rubbery back. Is anyone else annoyed by this because I had my mind set on getting the white version since I've always owned black phones but now I'm not so sure.

I'm not sure I would call the black back "soft and rubbery" It has a small amount of "give" when pressed down on when compared to the white back but it is still fairly hard, I did feel both before purchasing and went with the black one as it felt better to me.
I haven't felt a black Note 3, but I LOVE the feel of the white one. It's plastic, but the texture feels nice (Better than a smooth plastic back). I'll be seating it inside of a Spigen Bounce case, though, so it would be a non-issue either way.
I actually returned my white one for a black one. I had one of each in my order from AT&T, and after handling both I knew I had to swap the white one out. Luckily they didn't give me a hassle or charge me a fee.
Also does anyone know if Samsung has given any indication as to when the accessories will be out? How long did it take for the s4? Hopefully the replacement backs will feel similar to the black one. Thanks.
The white S view cover looks great on the black phone plus you get that great screen look in menus etc of edge to edge on the black phone. I also think that the titanium grey Note 2 gave a similar effect, but nowhere near as good as the note 3, especially with a black wallpaper. I will post a screen shot of mine below

The multi-element lens is made out of plastic, but the lens holder that is facing the outside world is cut out from glass. As said before, it will take some scratches, but same rules apply as for the screen: try to protect it from damage.
Can it take being put on the surface of a smooth table? Yes. Can it resist keys, sand and knives? No.

Some phones have the lens protector, some don't.
I am on my third gs5, first 2 didn't even have a protector over the camera lens and the 3rd one does
I'm going to leave it on since there's a nice cutout for the camera optic, so it doesn't interfere with photos

why was it a pain? the cutout hole is perfect size and doesn't get in the way of the quality of the photos......

Scratched camera lens, photo quality
My S5 camera quality has dropped significantly lately. The photos have become quite grainy, especially in mid and low light. I compared it to friend's S5 and you can see the difference right on the screen even without taking a photo. My camera lens is with scratches, friend's not. Can it be the reason ? If so, is it possible to get the scratches out somehow ? I have seen videos of scratch repair for HTC One M8 (http://youtu.be/xhhOcIRMfWc ). Can it work on S5 ? Any advice, any solution ?

Does it look like this? If so go to the "Bent after 2 days" thread. I know it's not bent, so the title is misleading. But the "Bent" issue in that thread is only this issue.

If you mean the thin plastic band that sits between the screen and the aluminium case then yes, that seems to have the characteristics of play dough, it is easily dented.

Yes, I've had this as well. I took my 6P out of the case it's been in (pretty much since I got it) and the top right corner has lost some of the plastic. Never been dropped so not sure why it's happening.
