Rooting - Encryption lost and data wiped? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

So i'm reading that if we root the phone it will cause encryption to not behave as expected and then it will cause existing data to be lost/wiped?
I see a bunch of people have rooted their phone. Want to ask what happens to encryption and existing data on phone.
Thanks

cool. Which root method did you use?
Did you also enable api2 for the google camera?

I used CF-Auto-Root, because Magisk did not work for me.
Talking about api2, it's not that dangerous so there is no possibility it could wipe the storage

Removing lag fix a must before upgrading to JI5?

As the topic asks, I'd like to know preferably from people who have actually done it. Is it 100% necessary to remove the lag fix before I upgrade to the new firmware?
I would have just removed it and not even bothered to ask but I'm having a lot of difficulties getting it removed.

Which lag fix are you having difficulty removing? If I am unable to help, I'm sure there are many here who can

I think it was the original one. The one that you had to do from your computer. Since my phone is Hardware locked I'm a little concerned that if something goes wrong I'll be SOL!
You need to remove Ryanza's lag fix otherwise your phone will hag at the Galaxy S screen, happened to me. You can fix it by going into recovery and delete all user data but of course at the point you lose everything.

Ok that's fine but will I be able to restore all my apps & settings via titanium after? Or must I start from scratch no matter what?
you must remove the lagfix before applying the update as stated above.
you will not lose any data or settings to your phone during the update.
Lag fix is the only one that should be removed? All other mods/fixes can remain?

if you installed a custom rom, you'll have to flash back to stock.
you don't have to unroot but it will unroot it for you.
you can go back adn root with the old method without any problems.
Thanks for all the replies...
Having second thoughts now, seeing too many people having issues. I may hold off a few days.
OCLF
Upgraded without removing OCLF no problems at all
So far I haven't had any problems. Just the hang on the restart, but after waiting a little bit it loads just fine...

(Problem) After rooting my phone by CF root, my phone is laggy

Two days ago i have decided to root my phone by CF root, then my phone is became laggy, its not that smooth like before, even when im browsing google with dolphin its laggy, even flipping the Touchwiz screen isnt smooth too, should i just unroot the phone or what?
Root in no way effects performance. If all you did was root it's in your head.

Greenify could be it . try uninstalling the framework and restarting.
Yes you need to uninstall Xposed because it's a known issue that it causes massive lag and kills S Health.

Provided that you're rooted and have custom recovery installed. When you first install any ROM/Firmware, have everything set up and running, always do a Nandroid Backup, it will save you tons of time.

Once you did Nandroid Backup, data will be stored in either internal memory or SD card. Just go to recovery, Wipe /data, /cache, /system then locate that backup file and restore

There are a lot of CWM Guides over internet.
Here is example: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-clockworkmod-recovery-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
Once you get used to it, troubleshooting your phone is not a prob anymore

Moving from mm to n, and possibly back to mm

Hey guys and girls, I would like to test nougat, currently on mm(du) but in the end may go back to mm until more ROMs update. Question is, will I have any issues switching back? I have heard people having issues downgrading once they update to nougate

Worked fine for me using the factory image to revert back.
Just use the factory images to downgrade.(optional) format user data. I've made the jump multiple times with no issues.

Of course, personal preference. But it isn't needed. Saying "make sure to" gives the impression that it's actually required when it isn't, there's no gain at all from wiping the internal storage.

keep getting locked out of AOSP OS in TWRP where encryption pattern doesn't work.

Well, decryption actually. I would love to disable encryption entirely like on the OP6, but apparently that's not possible due to the fingerprint or something. It's so frustrating. I load OOS then Havoc (or ASOIP, maybe others) and everything seems fine until i try to flash something in TWRP only to find it won't accept my pattern, pin, fingerprint etc. Anyone seen this?
You have to clean flash an April security patch build, add your password/pin etc., then dirty flash to May and it will work
The other day it did that to me but when I skipped the pattern my files still showed up as normal. I'm using TWRP 3.3.0-2

Hmm, i swear i think i tried that a couple times. :latest release, no beta.
I'm very familiar with wiping the data partition to create a fresh decrypt one. I think i just need a no-forced encrypt zip like on OP6. Unfortunately i think that screws up login attempts because of the fingerprint being proprietary. If someone knows a way or is working on it, you'd be my hero.

Have you tried to format data instead of wiping? Some ROMs like treskmod require this for successful decryption.

Sorry, yes that's what i mean. I indeed do completely format the data partition where it prompts and requires "yes" to do so. The odd thing is it DOES decrypt it just sometimes encrypts again and then locks me out. I do tend to reinstall twrp and root more than is probably required (to get safetynet passed). Is there some rule i need to follow or something i need to do during each flash to prevent this?
Thanks by the way for everyone's input.

Ok, i think i found the issue. According to the guy who wrote the unofffical TWRP 3.3.02 it's a bug in the code. He sent the info including the lines of code that were causing the problem to teamwin.

Getting rid of OTA updates on a rooted device by freezing "Software Update" apps

Getting rid of OTA updates on a rooted device by freezing "Software Update" apps
I have a rooted Galaxy s10+ with android pie. Doesn't freezing "Software Update" system apps of my android by Titanium Backup make booting problems for my device? Is it safe for me to freeze those apps? I ask because I've heard freezing some system apps like "Device Care" stops the device from booting. As other fellas I get ota update notifications and I wanna get rid of them by freezing those apps.
not a soul to answer?
dont know, never used it on this app
why dont you just hide the notifications?

because they come back, of course I tried that. you cannot just hide their notifications. They are system apps which android doesn't let you to hide their notifications. you can even stop the apps with some apps but they come back. I just wanna know the answer to my question because all other ways has already been tried and they were unsuccessful.
You can freeze the software update without issues, or at least you could back in Galaxy S4 days. Pie might work differently than lollipop.

thank you for your reply but that is what I'm afraid of. As I have so many data and customization on my phone, I wanna be 100% sure that Android Pie works fine and boots successfully with frozen "Software Update" apps (there are two apps).

Thanks, I'd tried that too, it worked messy on my phone and used much of my mobile's resources. still waiting for someone to say that s/he tried to freeze the source of the problem and wiped the problem clean successfully.

Some ideas:
Autonotification blocks permanent notifications permanently .
Or make a Nandroid backup with TWRP and restore if necessary.
Or use TWRP file manager (or aroma file manager https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108) to backup packages .xml file (should work also on PIE) in the data/system folder, which contains information About enabled and disabled packages.

Thank you, I still wanna wait for someone who has done the freezing way. No TWRP on my mobile and I also want things to be done clean. don't like any overload by other apps like autonotification.

Ok.
Always know that having root without having a custom recovery (TWRP) can be very risky because, in case you or some root-app make your phone bootloop, you cannot recover easily (And you lose your data).

Thanks for your advice. Yea you are right but at the moment s10+ was just released and its TWRP wasn't working properly. I'm an advanced user but I just don't have enough time to do it all over again let alone getting back up gets much time itself.
Still waiting for the answer folks ?
SO basically you are asking someone else to potentially F*** up their phone because you are not willing to try it yourself ? Sorry, but that's how it sounds....

Of course not. Some people have enough time to try different software and ways to make phones better. Some even have recovery software like TWRP which can undo if something go wrong. I'm asking them to share if they had the experience I mentioned. I was one of them a while ago.
