Instagram stories? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I am planning to buy the A1, i have a question regrding the taking selfies using instagram story.
Can someone tell me if the viewfinder is cropped and your face looks 10x larger than taking the it using the normal camera app?
On my oneplus one i don't have this problem but on every other android phone i've tested this problem occurs. I hope you tell me the A1 does not have this problem.

Well, the fact is that the camera has a native aspect ratio of 4:3 (3:4 portrait) and Instagram works on 16:9 (9:16 portrait) so it has to zoom in order to get the correct aspect ratio.
It is normal.

thanks for the reply. so that means my oneplus one had a wider viewing angle than this mi a1

You set the selfie camera to 16:9 in the settings

Maybe yes, or it has a native anamorphic lens, so the camera it's a native 16:9 one...

Yeah soon as I can figure out how lol I'm running the latest paranoid android. The app opens but when I try to go to setting or any other options the app force closes.
And yeah lenovo super camera looks interesting I'll check it out.
Turns out the lenovo app crashes too. Won't even open.

Try clearing the cache and data. I know, you shouldn't have any yet but it worked for me.

Get "alogcat" or other logging app and set it to run then reproduce your problem. It's also possible through adb.
good one

Worked great on my stock D80110c rooted (4.2.2)
big apk but everything works ! even the SEEit! Gallery . While it has a lot of bells and whistles functions.
I use this also its been around for a while and works Great
Camera is Android 4.3 Camera App
What works and I've tested:
- take pictures on all res
- photo-sphere works
- panorama works (I've got though some garbled photos at the end)
- front camera works
- video recording works (both 720 and 1080)
- all settings work
If this helped
Click Thanks :good:

well yes and no yes only 8mp no 16:9 in 8mp
2mp 16:9
I know , I know . it is the issue is with the aspect ratio (the ratio between width and height. At full resolution, the aspect ratio of the camera is 4:3. the screen aspect ratio is 16:9. So to display a 4:3 image on the 16:9 screen you need to either leave bands at the top and bottom, or crop some of the picture off the sides. And of course WE want the highest MP . But we have a LG-G2 .
Now now on my LG-G2 with this Lenovo Super Camera is working. And I can set to resolution 4160x3120 13MP and I will test to see if it really is to resolution .. I really dont know
Tested : yes I was able to take pictures at the highest 4160x3120 and 4160x 2340W. every thing works except burst shots .. to fast for camera to focus or to save picture .
A better camera is actually serving my purposes pretty well and it has a lot of handy features. Thanks for the recommendation.

u cant get 16:9 aspect ration with 13mp , you have to use 13mp resolution with 4:3 aspect ratio ,that's the limit of resolution
It's just the way camera hardware is built and it can not be changed.
It's like that on Samsung phones since forever (didn't own other phones, but I guess it's the same).
And now you want to change it ? Write to Samsung.

I don't know man....
I see amazing mods and xposed modules that can change everything in the phone
I just thinking if there is mod like that for a camera
You can't use 16:9 on 13mp resolution.

I think the aspect ratio for 13MP is 4:3 so you really could not remove those black borders buddy,
BTW your sig is nice, "A coward dies a thousand deaths, a soldier dies but once..."
Makavelli in This! Killuminati, all through your body, the blow is like a 12 gauge shorty
Hail Mary
Just use 9.6 MP to take 16:9 pictures
It's like taking 13 MP pictures (4:3) and then cropping it

use procapture camera.. it can use 16:9 resolution for 13MP

Camera questions...

Hey guys I have a couple questions for the camera of the 6P. Ok, I know that the camera doesn't have ois but I'd like to know :
Does it take photos 16:9 or 4:3 as a default and if it takes 4:3 as a default when using the 16:9 option are you going to lose some of the quality for example 16:9 at 8mpx.?
Is the front facing camera capable to record 1080p videos?
I'm asking that because just sell my Note 5 and I'm considering to buy the 6P. On the Note 5 as a default was 16:9 at 16mpx
Thanks in advance!

It takes pics at 4:3 default at 12mp when you go to 16:9 it goes down to 8.3mp.
The front facing can take vids at 1080.

camera app

So everyone is complaining about the camera app. What am I missing? Can't you just install the Google camera app?
I was wondering the same but thought maybe that it could possibly not be used due to the two camera setup.
I've read people say you can just install the Google camera app, and that it works fine (but no more detail than that - I imagine it might not use the monochrome camera, will be surprised if it tries to use both together).
The OnePlus 5 camera was ported to the honor 8. Maybe the same could be done for the essential phone

I installed the APK for the Google Pixel Camera ... pretty sure it was from this site. Didn't work. Crashes the instant you open it. Kinda wondering if I did something wrong??
PS: The camera really is beyond awful. The results are on par with a 20 year old disposable camera. Really need to get something better ASAP.

I have no issues taking pictures, all mine turn out fantastic. Especially when just using the monochrome sensor by itself.
Settings
Guys am I missing something? Is there any way to change from a 4:3 aspect ratio to a 16:9 one for the rear cameras using the default camera app? I am able to do it of course using the Google camera app.
I use the "Open Camera" app. Seem to work well
I haven't seen anyone mention that the stock camera app is compressing the pics. Stock pics come out at 1.6 mbs or so while Gcsm is 3+ mbs.

Don't have the phone on me now but I'd imagine it's the resolution that sets the aspect ratio so choose one that is 16:9 like 4032x2268 (9.1M) or 2560:1440 (3.7M). At least those are my options on my S8's stock camera app... lol
Just got the phone and seeing the resolution as 4160x3120 but the file is only 1mb vs 5.5mb on the Google camera. Too much compression, no wonder the photos look so grainy.

Pixel Binning

What is the use of Pixel Binning feature if camera app is not even using secondary 20mp sensor in any mode. Even in manual model it is taking 20mp size pictures instead of using pixel binning. Can someone guide me if am missing anything or MI is just doing false advertising??

The way the pixel binning works is that it upscales the photo afterwards back up to 20MP, I wish there was a way to turn that on and off however.

I dont think it works like that. Check attached image for reference. So there is no chance of up scaling after binning.
I found that the 20mp lens does take some great pics but you not only have to select that lens manually, the settings had to be set manually also. It seems the camera lens is fine, it's the camera app that does a poor job.

I think you should read about how upscaling works. Of course you will not gain any resolution but the final image will be 20MP again. Or any mp value depending on the scale factor
It works in my case it turns 20 mp to 16 mp, but gcam is better than mi cam without using pixel binning
