BOUNTY!! Sprint LG v20 997v8 root - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I have $50 dollars to any developer that can unlock bootloader and give root access.
Any other sprint 997v8 is welcome to pool our money together and encourage the powers to be to focus on this.

i add 25 also for root.
but i dont have too much hope many of the developers has move to different device.so theres not too much development on the v20 anymore especially on the sprint variant i believe because the lack of kdz or tot file.
but anyway theres still hope.

I'm unsure if this is the right place for this post? (It's been a while since I used XDA in earnest, can't remember the rules about bounties...)
But count a $20 from me to this.

I can't either. If their is an escrow account for holding funds until completion of task. I would be willing to set that up

Count me in for $25. I'm on Zv7.

How about a paypal account I think there is a way to set one up for somthing like this. Does anyone know how.
??
I dont know how to set one up here.....
But if we keep a running total, I am sure than whatever developer or developers that come up with a Root will have their own...
I dont see a developer getting involved until the funds are guranteed somewhere.
Good Point
Good point...Do you know how I would do that?
That is what I was thinking. I know for the droid they set up a paypal account for it I'm just not sure how they did it.
...
im looking on paypal....not really seeing an answer...gonna ask a dev over in old xperia forums...

I have seen that...but here is the issue that I think could arise...
If I open an account, and have it be for donations, I have no problem there at all.
But that would be me asking everyone to trust me not to spend their hard earned money, you know what I mean?
I have no problem doing it, I am just saying people would have to trust me to hold the money in "Trust"

Have everyone hold on to the money, and whoever roots it will create the account once its finished. Then everyone sends in the money to the guys account. Problem solved.
Still wont solve the fact that the dev may feel users wont pay up. I think best bet is to get XDA to hold onto the money. Sort of make it a hacking contest. Also maybe we could get it on the XDA Main page for everyone to see, maybe itll intrigue people who dont check our forum.

Petition To Unlock/Root Phone??

Now I'm sure this has been posted before, but after searching for like 20 minutes I could only find one to unlock a phone to go to a different carrier, not for root.
If no one knows of one, I would like to start one on We The People's website so people like us on Verizon can have the same opportunities as others do on other carriers that don't lock down this so dang hard.
Now of course, being the sh***y administration that Obama's is, last year they changed it from 25k signatures to 100k (and from 5k to 25k back in 2011) to be taken seriously. But I KNOW there is more than 100k Verizon users on here on XDA.
The only tough part would be spreading the word in the 30 days we have to achieve this to everyone who wants this. Maybe XDA can work with us and somehow create a pop-up to when you are on the site or app notifying them of this petition to sign? I know a lot of people would also shrug it off and think it's just spam, so maybe even a PM to everyone?
Now, to get Verizon to take this seriously as well, we would need to have a foolproof plan. We would need to put rules on this for them to even consider this. Such can include (but not limited to, add any you think should be added):
•soon as you root/unlock your device you have now voided your warranty (as it already is) and therefore would need to pay full price for a new phone IF you bricked your device or any other NON physical damages (Water, drops, cracks, etc)
•maybe even pay a small time fee of $50-$100 per phone for this root so they can actually earn some extra money (don't be cheap, you pay $200-$600 dollars per phone, and donate money here so it's the least you could do for freedom).
•That's all I've got for now, but I've been up since 8pm last night working, so my brain isn't fully functional right now so please add!
I'm sorry, but I don't think we will ever have the same abilities as other carriers. If we want to stick it to the man, we will have to do it how we have always done it. Behind their backs and find ways around the locks for what we want. Them giving us the ability outside of a Dev device, won't happen. They don't want us having any more power than that they will allow.
I like the thought, but I really don't see it happening bud.
Nice thought, Dennis but I doubt this would work. Many reasons, but probable the biggest is Verizon has heck of a lot more lawyers (working for them) than we do

lol i'm not sure the relevance of the lawyer comment? i'm not saying we need to force verizon to do this, just something to make them aware that out of over 100 million users on their network, a nice little portion would like this option. they can still make plenty of money out of it, whether it be that one time fee i suggested, or if something happens to your phone other than physical damage, you have to buy a phone at full price.

BTW, edit your post in the 4.4 thread if you posted a bounty there for 4.4.4, that threads purpose has been accomplished. I just edited mine out as a mistake. If I miss you in the op please pm me and I'll update asap. Thanks.

Could you change the title of the thread to "Bounty for unlocked bootloader"?
It seems that we are much closer to getting that via Dan Rosenberg's method than having someone find an exploit for the 4.4.4 firmware to obtain root. Note that an unlocked bootloader will allow for both root and write protection off for the lifetime of the device, over all* OTA patches to come.
*unless the OTA relocks the bootloader and patches the vulnerability discovered by Dan, then we're SOL.
Once the title is changed, count me in for $20.

I guess you missed the 50+ page thread for this EXACT same topic....
I guess I may have missed that other thread. I didn't intend to make one on top of another if I did but upon my first post in another thread this was recommended, so I edited my post as a mistake. Then I got the title wrong and humbly corrected it. I actually prefer to leave this stuff to the grown ups but I been a little desperate as I'm sure others may be too. Does this thread need to be deleted? Is there another thread for the same thing? If so, how do I close the thread. I'm all ears for advice, although I may not have time to make any changes. Any one who wants to take over thread is certainly invited and welcome. I just want progress and an willing to pay.

To everyone who keeps requesting that a NEW bounty thread be created for the sole purpose of the BL-Unlock exploit....it's pretty simple guys. Just start a new thread in General and title it "[BOUNTY] Full Bootloader Unlock 2013 Droid Line-up".
If nobody else will do it, I will -- just give the word. I'm already unlocked though, so it should probably be started by someone who wants an unlock exploit, and will keep the OP updated with all the pledger's usernames and pledge amounts along with a running total of the FULL bounty amount.
Don't forget to WITHDRAW your pledges from any other bounty threads you have pledged to. This is important.
I re-posted the instructions for using the "China Middleman" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54789063&postcount=868

I find it really surprising that you guys are continuing to post pledge amounts in THIS thread, and that none of you have created a new one, even after I suggested it. Any one of the last 3 posters could have started it...
Are you all going to come back to THIS thread, and edit out your pledges? Because that's what you need to do. You don't pledge bounties in multiple threads for the same thing....not unless you intend on paying twice!
EDIT: Glad to see a new bounty thread was started...however consider the shortcoming - that thread is for "4.4.4. root" - it does not mention write protect disable or bootloader unlock. What exactly are you guys wanting? Technically, a "temp-root" on 4.4.4 would qualify for this bounty, and could quickly be patched by the next update.
Just food for thought....I really expected the new bounty thread to be for full bootloader unlock -- to encourage a DEV to take Dan Rosenburg's new bootloader trust zone vulnerability and create a tool to exploit it. That is the only permanent rooting solution for you guys.
EDIT2: I see that the title of the new bounty thread has been changed to "full bootloader unlock". Great :good:

Hey guys... If I could do it, I would for free but... I can't and time is money, so my $50 still stands for whatever gentleman takes the time.
Just a little misunderstanding from the starting point, I take blame. Hey the finish line is still the finish line in spite of the start.
So, let's all pitch in and enjoy these great phones moto finally made!
I personally can't understand why these phones aren't more popular. Touchless control is amazing.
I can pay $20 via PayPal. @Dan: Please release the exploit.

Easier than what? Its currently the ONLY option.
It does not work for everybody. He can only unlock devices between a certain date range. Almost no 2013 devices, and very few devices with assembly dates in the past 2 months.
It is a good option, but we already have an existing thread on that topic. I believe most or all of those pledging bounties for an exploit have tried the middleman already, unsuccessfully.
I'll contribute $20.
The cost is very high

??? Please explain ??? You mean you don't know how to do it yourself and it will take to much money for a dev to get involved and for you to get involved? Or you know how to do it and you have a price that our pledges don't total? That's pretty soon, especially given that I haven't seen the exploit of Dan's vulnerability on any other phone. I imagine that once it's been done on one phone the others will follow quickly and snatch up bounties. Keep it alive, let it build up and eventually someone will deliver.
OK.. I just didn't want someone to feel obligated if they had a better way.

I am willing to pay. Devs are generally more likely to work on a device if their is incentive.
So how does XDA generally handle bounties?

I think there needs to be a trusted person to make a bounty thread. Then users can pledge the amount they want to pay. Once root is achieved and is fully working, then the Dev claims the bounty of the total amount people pledged

bootloader unlock verizon pixel

I just had my Verizon pixel RMA through Google with a refurbished phone. Skipped through the setup without sim card or wifi and the OEM unlock was greyed out. Figured I'd give up and just roll stock. Inserted my sim and set up. Just checked again for ****s and giggles and I can toggle the setting to unlock the bootloader. On 7.1.2.
So? Quick, turn off automatic updates then go and actually unlock the bootloader.

I'm not trying to start any trouble. That is not what I came here for. I just wanted to let people know about this. I had to send in a Pixel phone back to Verizon that I had unlocked. I got back a phone that was bootloader locked and I thought I was done. I found this guy, from a post in this forum, and contacted him. I was skeptical at first, but I also wanted my bootloader unlocked so I took the risk. He did exactly as he said and now I'm happy. That is all. Sorry if that is against the rules.

Well, not directly for the poster selling anything. But the guy he's speaking of has been banned already. I'm not try to moderate, but certainly don't want this fantastic forum to turn into a place for "pay for service" advertisement. Whether it's done directly or indirectly. My intent here to do my part of maintaining an informational pass of ideas. Sorry to anyone if I come across anything different. This forum here has been a place of solitude, information, and passing theories back and forth. Have a great weekend everyone!
Can someone clarify something for me? Does dePixel currently work on the Verizon Pixel xl with the April security patch? I've tried a few times to unlock my bootloader with no success but I've heard sometimes it works after a few tries. Am I wasting my time?

I don't think he is shady given the feedback that has shown up here from longtime XDA users. I got mine when dePixel was still working, but I would be comfortable with the method he is using. I just personally disagree with XDA becoming his personal advertisement space (even since he was banned for violation of XDA rules regarding using it for a for profit service).

Yeah, I voiced my concerns about this in the XL forums and basically got laughed at by some people. Just think turning rooting into a pay-to-play model and using the forums to advertise (he's not advertising, but plenty of people are for him) could be a slippery slop that could spell trouble.
But it sounds like the guy isn't shady. Just out to make money on the desperation of others.
