Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 user experience and stuff

Hi all,
today I got a X10 unit (here in Croatia there was a press conference) and X10 come with localized Android 1.6 Cupcake operating system.

I just put battery in side and connect to Internet.
Device is great, solid construction (I also have HTC Legend), it is fast, but without multitouch

Can you, please, confirm the presence of AWS (WDCMA-IV) 1700MHz band support?
BTW Android v1.5 was Cupcake, your X10 is running Donut.
PS: I don't give a flying f*ck about multitouch, it's a classic gimmick with no use for me - I prefer to be able use my phone with one hand instead of having to perform some two-handed gymnastics nonsensical gymnastics, only to gain nothing but lose safety when, say, I'm riding a train or driving a car or walking with my daughter holding her hand.

Well, I am playing with X10 for few hours, and I think that the main problem is 1.6 Android, in comparation with Legend (which I have) it is slightly slower. This can be seen in putting widgets.

What you see is the "Donut lag" - it is a common problem among Donut-based devices.
After someone releases a 2.x port it should be gone.

Well, we will sit and wait and I will continue to use my HTC Legend, hope to see upgrade rom from SE on 2.1

I know they will, it's only the question of when...

Thanks but I won this device and also HTC Legend, last week (what can I say, best week in my life- HTC Legend was in press conference,and SE Xperia x10 on SE event- I am ICT yournalist and editor in chief of Croatian e-zine about smartphones).
So I am very lucky, but as I said, it is good device, with big potential, so in comparation with Legend, Legend has smoother UI (HTC Sense) and implementation of services, but all thanks to 2.1 Eclair, so we wait update on X10.
Today I got him, so I will play with him a while, so we will se how it goes..
my main concern is TFT screen, because AMOLED screens are much better.

On 23 April, Samsung begun a countdown for the next galaxy with an anagram.

Yesterday, the countdown finally stopped and a teaser for the upcoming galaxy was posted.
SUMMARY OF VIDEO ACCORDING TO ME----
The video begins in the wilderness showing a distant city, all lit up in the night. The camera then zooms into outer space along with text that reads ‘Where a galaxy fits perfectly into your hand’. This is a subtle hint that the phone won’t be as massive as the Galaxy Note or possibly, the Galaxy Nexus. I have a feeling Samsung may just stick to the 4.3-inch screen but with a much higher resolution. This makes perfect sense and I hope they do that.
The camera then pans out across different galaxies along with another line, ‘Your view of the world grows even wider’. This could hint at the aspect ratio of the new phone. Any Other Guess! Anyone.
Then, it goes deeper into the universe and text appears, "AS YOU GAIN THE POWER TO EXPLORE IT FREELY & SWIFTLY', this time i'm cluelss.
Here comes the funniest part, the iSheeps, which shows a herd of sheep and the line, ‘…everyone else’.
The video ends with the Samsung logo and those very same blobs of metallic paint we saw in the invite. This definitely hints to the type of material used in the chassis of the S III or if not, at least the colours it will be available in. Sadly, at this moment, we don’t have any real clue about the phone itself and looking at how Samsung is hyping their next-gen Galaxy phone, I really doubt those leaked pictures are the real deal.
It appears as if Samsung is trying to throw us off the track here into thinking that the GT-I9300 is indeed the S III, which it isn’t (at least, that’s what we hope). Only a few days are left for Samsung’s Mobile Unpacked 2012 event which will take place on May 3, so see you then.

So we let us suprise. Wow !!

I voted "don't know" it depends on a number of factors, it will have to beat the SGSII in every department for it to outsell it, price too will be a factor, many countries are in deep recession and many people cannot afford the luxury of shelling out big money on a smartphone so i hope Samsung don't vastly overcharge, €599 is far too much this is the figure that was given on the Amazon German website

We'll see material design only and maybe new updated apps like album and music (maybe).
I know the feeling when you see new update is coming, but we know also how the things go when we speak about marketing.
And I repeat, it's not sony, it's marketing.
I will feel more happy when new custom roms based on latest firmware will come out

Sony said that other variants of the Xperia Z series would start to see the update in around two weeks after z3 and z2, so expect it in these day, don't know the exact day, maybe tomorrow, monday or tuesday.

I don't think that this won't be our last major upgrade. We will continue to see major updates until Z1 becomes 2 years old. (My poinion)

I think that's a hardware problem. I had absolutely same bug on my Z1, but ater changing the motherboard this bug disappear, and now HW button works well!

No Camera2 API = Lollipop is dead to me
I'm perfectly fine with Kit Kat as it's stable and bug free and has amazing battery life.

New camera api need drivers update (it depends also on hardware, not only on software, so lollipop is not synonymous of camera api 2). For now even on z3 and z2 there aren't, speak about xperia family. Don't expect camera api 2 on our phone, first thing for a marketing choice. Which are the phones with new camera api support? For example, I saw Nexus 5....

When it will be live?

Today is the day! Grab some snacks, it's going to be an interesting event.

I am pumped. I was considering the M9, then the S6 and while in the Verizon store to buy an S6 I was testing chrome and I saw (and took screenshots) of the leaked G4 Microsite that was quickly pulled. At that moment, from what I saw then, I knew the G4 was for me. I set down the S6 and walked out.

With the press event tomorrow that probably means the phone will be on US carriers at the end of may and Verizon probably in June...

I've been holding off on buying the S6 to see what the what the G4 is like.
It's as simple as this: if the G4 has a better camera, then I'll get it.
I had the G2 though and I wasn't impressed at all by LG's processing algorithms - hoping LG have really upped their game for the G4.

I'm on the same boat as you. I'm hoping LG are bringing their A game or I'll jump to the Samsung ship. I'm hoping the US carrier date isn't going to be far away like it was with the G3. I think the G3 was released mid July last year.

So what will be the big news?

For the Germans and may similar for all other.
The LG G4 will be more expensive than all hoped. They expected ~599€ and hoped LG will get the price like G3 on Release and not like sony and others more and more expensive.

So most of that was already known. And the one thing that I really care about at this point wasn't addressed. When can I get it? They didn't even say when the 30 preview program is going to start...

So will see the news.. Will LG G4 create more buzz than the current S6 Edge I have now.. that's something I'm so eager to find out..

Great job Sony! But i do not expect it to be upgraded to Android M

5.1 is really service pack for 5.0. Current version is quite buggy
Talk softly, tread carefully and carry a big gun.

Well, for sure my next phone will be from Sony. I'm impressed!

Hugely impressed with the amount of upgrades. My phone is over 2 years old now and still as useful as day one. Nice work Sony...

So much irony over here.. Previously before this annunciation we had post like „I don't expect Sony will bring us 5.0.x“,. after that we've seen „Sony is so dumbasse* that they can't bring us 5.1“ (or sth), and now, when we're officially getting 5.1 people start's saying „I don't expect Android M“.. c'mon, guys. We're so damn lucky that we even got 5.0.x, because our Z is 2+ years old.

come on guys even the nexus devices don't get updates tis much. instead of feeling bad about android m be glad about our XZ's having a L update. i think sony is doing a great job about android and phones or tablets. it's a shame that other phones users don't see the durability, camera, support and power of our devices.

camera takes very bad pictures especially after update

thats why i will stick to Sony. i abandoned Chinese handsets a long time ago and bought an Xperia Z with a nice open source policy, a big community and updates for this handset. Thank you Sony for supporting us!

I think we will wait another two or three months to have it on our Z. But I am very happy we will get it.

well i think there are some camero improvements. especially speed of focus. it focuses faster than before and i tink low light photos are better too. at least i feel that way

Another 8 months more to get 5.1 based on my own speculation. Sony Mobile first announce their lollipop upgrade @oct last year and we got it after around 7 months.

5.0 -> 5.1 is a much simpler step than 4.4 -> 5.0 so it shouldn't take as long.
