Battery life numbers - Xiaomi Mi Max 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Could we share some SOT or numbers with the Mi Max 2? I'm considering getting this phone over another brand.

With Lineage OS, I usually get 10-12 hours of SOT.. Using MIUI, it's about the same

On MIUI for some reason, i don't get as much SOT like on Lineage. I'm using always the same apps on LOS like on Miui, but somehow my battery doesn't last so good, like it's draining. I open the battery usage, and there is that Android system which always has the high battery usage, lik 45%+. Tried different ROMs, many times, nothing, the same thing. Probably some of my apps which i use are killing MIUI.

8h sot 6 of them in a online game...
Couple of phone calls, some sms...
Wifi always on and 26h between charges...

Global Miui, china, developer, Xiaomi EU rom, Miui PRO.

LineageOS. No google services, no google apps, no google anything. Open Source for as long as it is achievable.
5 days between every charge (30 percent left).
F-droid is mostly where I get my APKs.
Specialized TWRP for Mii Max 2.
I'm a modest user. I don't play any games. I use my phone for Telegram, SMS, phone calls, reddit, web browsing, and E-mail.
Live background, 24/7 wifi (not standby), lte, GPS and Bluetooth (for my headphones and pebble smartwatch).
Using microg, fakestore and unifiedlp for GPS and Google framework.
Root apps are adaway. I also have magisk with xposed (systemless) installed.
Having little to no google really helps save battery time.
Having said that, I also have no key tones or vibration active for any keypresses and I've gone through absolutely all the settings and done what I can to optimize battery usage.
I don't know about my SOT because I generally don't care to look (So many days between charge).
Funnily (and it is wrong), my battery stats shows my battery capacity at an estimated 6000 mah.
It drains about 2 percent in deep sleep (night time, 7 hours), because of polling.
Right now it's at 97% with 14 hours since last charge.

Hey guys
I have question
Miui pro or lineage? Which one better than in battery life?
I can't diagnose well

Battery Guide!!

Well I decide to start this thread for us, to have a guide about wich ROM are we using and the battery average drain. Feel free to post you battery screenshots, and of course your information.
ROM
Average time
Percentage
Any tweaks.
Thanks!! Lets build some usefull information.
Hi,
I can only report bat usage on two ROM's since only used two till now.
JELLYTIME by Randomblame
Average time: about 13 hours
Wifi constantly on, mobile data also, average calls time between 3-4 hours, average of 1 hour of internet browsing, no gaming at all
Although it is a very good ROM, for me battery up time was a half that has with a stock ROM. It drains about 4-5 % per hour on standby
Any tweaks: No tweaks
CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies / M-Series by Mustaavalkosta
Average time: about 20 hours
Wifi constantly on, mobile data also, average calls time between 3-4 hours, average of 1 hour of internet browsing, no gaming at all
Battery time for this ROM is superb, I think it's a far better than a stock ROM. If I don't use phone much it can go 24+ hours on standby (Actuly I'm planing to do little experiment, to see how much will last on stand by only)
Any tweaks: No tweaks
Sorry I don't have screenshots
P.S. I think you should change thread title, since this is comparison between ROM's it's not guide for anything
If you guys are going to do this, it may be good to set more factors in. I.e.: age of battery, if on data, reception strenght and so forth.
Sent from a dream.
Ok I 've got one of those 2450 mAh Gold battery's for my desire HD not sure if its the real thing or that high as it was only £7 on ebay but its better than my stock battery for sure.
I'm running AOKP 9/13 build with Sync on, Gmail push, some SMS ,Maps, internet, calls and running Android pro widgets for facebook and Greenify to kill Maps.
Today I have 57% battery after 9hrs 56m on battery
40 % screen
25% calls
15% standby
11% idle
6 % Maps
3% Android System
2% akmd (what's that?)
I think those stats are great and as good if not better than when I was running Mike's Android revolution HD 7.3.
Really pleased with AOKP very stable and no FC. Only thing is the proximity sensor works but sometimes must switch back on in a call, but I've heard this is a common problem with JB roms. I can live with that and I've heard of a recalibration app that might work.
BTW I use android pro widgets for facebook as I prefer it to facebook app and I'm sure it's better on battery life. Also less is more don't download to many apps, they bleed that battery with background maps and internet.

Very disappointed with the S4 Battery Life

I'm currently on deadly venom v 8.2 on mf3. I only get 2-3hrs screen time w this device. I already greenified all everything connected to Google like maps, services, search, etc. I hate the fact that you even have to do that just to maximize battery life. I don't like turning on and off stuffs like location services, blue tooth, and wifi. I always leave them on. I hate the fact that you need to lower the brightness or readjust the brightness again and again just to increase battery life. That's a no no! I have bad eyes, I use lux dash as my auto brightness. I don't have any background widgets on my phone. My home screen is just filled w apps (no widgets) because they say widgets eat battery. My phone can last the whole day when it's on idle. Battery is 3-4.5% per hour when on idle. It balloons to 15%—25% per hour once I start using it which is very annoying. These are the only apps I use and I always close them all the time. Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, viber, Google voice, BBM, Gmail. What can you guys suggest to improve battery life? I don't believe people saying that they last 2 days or even the whole day. That's complete BS. I'll attach a screen shot on from better batter stats when I started making this, I started from 100%
12% in 33mins. Geeeez

You might want to get a new battery... My phone is running Graviton and I have excellent battery life. I keep power saving mode on, use Greenify, turn off Wifi, GPS, and Mobile Data when NOT needed. Generally I push at least a day and a half out of this stock battery before doing a complete charge. I try my best to not let the battery drain 100%.

If it went from 100 to 12% in 33 minutes you have a bad battery, plain and simple.

Right. Bad battery is very likely. That and should be using better battery stats to get a picture of what's going on.
It's not the phone and naming the ROM as if that has something to do with it is bad form.

What he said. I am stock but rooted and using Juice Defender, Greenify, toggling gps and mobile data off etc, I get full day on high usage and 28 hours on light usage. Must be a bad battery.
Meh, did some math. 12% in 33 min did cross-multiplication for 99% battery used, got 272.25 minuets divided by 60 to get an hourly total. You'll be getting 4.5 hours on screen time.
I don't personally think that's bad. Did some more calculations for Nexus 5 on battery. Heard it's getting about 3.5 hours screen on time, so with that to get your 4.5 hours screen on time the nexus 5 would need about a 2960mah battery.
Well, firstly, you should believe that some people's last 2 days or so; as I've seen photos posted by "battery life enthusiasts" in the better-battery-stats thread and other places showing it's possible. 12% in 33 minutes isn't that bad and is around a stock TW battery expectancy.
You're on MF3.. which means you cannot run an AOSP rom, so almost anything your running isn't going to be extremely lightweight for battery. ALL TW based roms will drain battery more than a single AOSP or GPE rom, as the system is a lot more heavy.
I greenify anything associated with the google-cloud or push-notifications, if I want to know my Facebook updates I can click on the app myself. I have location services turned off because there's ZERO reasons to use it unless I have a need for my GPS. Do you know that MANY apps use your location service even when not running and cause constant wake-locks. I've also moved my Google Services Framework from a system app to a user app with Titanium Backup Pro so I can greenify it and completely disconnect myself from Google if I have no needs for the play store or push-notifications. Gmail and gmaps can still run independently fine without the Framework, the GSF is also a major cause of wake-lock battery drain. Even if you greenify google apps, the GSF is still going to cause numerous wake-locks and affect battery.
I don't have a photo at the moment, since my phone is plugged in all the time anyway (just to keep it topped off), but I've had it run for almost 2 days without charging it; with occasional screen time, gaming, and having it idle. I'm also on a non-TW AOKP rom that's very very lightweight.

Here is my battery so far. As you can see, it barely has been used since yesterday. Screen on time is 25 minutes. Wifi is always on and I weather widget reloads every 4 hours. GPS is off though. Obviously, it lasts slightly less than a day if I use extensively with games, web browsing, email. Considering how much I usually use the phone, it does last 2 days.
Im on MF3 and using Wicked rom with SS.
If you get a new battery....
If you are thinking about getting a new battery and don't mind the extra bulk, go for the 7500mAh Zero Lemon Battery. I got one over a month ago and it will EASILY get 3+ days of battery life. It will add a lot of mass to the phone, but if you are looking for stupid battery life, check it out. Right now I have 26 minutes of screen time and 92% battery life left. It's been off charger for over 8 hours.
Snowdog
Edit: Forgot to mention I'm Full Stock / Full Lock.
I have noticed the standby battery on this phone is AMAZING!... but the screen on time is horrible for me too :S... can barely get 3 hours and that is with like 30% brightness... sigh
people said amoled helps save battery... but i used to have muchhh better battery with my htc one
So these are my stats on very light usage. Very good idle time. Just 2.5 hrs screen time

Nougat rom with decent battery life?

I've tried maybe 5-6 nougat roms based on LineageOS along with a few different kernels, and battery life is far worse than on the marshmallow roms I've used (last one was Dirty Unicorns). Unfortunately, I don't any battery stats right now, but I regularly check battery stats on GSam and SOT and stand-by/doze is definitely much worse now compared to the marshmallow roms I've tried. I've played around with different kernel settings etc, but nothings has helped really.
How has battery life been on nougat in your experience? If battery life has improved with nougat in your case, what rom and kernel are you using?

Nougat battery life is about the same for me as it was on MM(@4.5-5 hours SOT on average).
I use Tesla with the included(stock) kernel. Here's a link if you wanna give some AOSP/non-lineageOS based ROMs a try...

Holy crap, 4,5h SOT!! Really? And that's with a standard 3000 mAh battery? Thanks for the tip, will try that rom. Could very well be that non-LineageOS roms have better battery life on nougat.
4+hrs of SOT on a 2013 phone is kinda ridiculous, unless you are reading Word files with everything turned off. I cant see anyone averaging that while using reddit, twitter, facebook, youtube, etc. Im a heavy user and i have 3-3.5hrs of SOT.

Na... 4+ hours is normal with location off, running on wifi, underclocked to 1958Mhz, using auto-brightness, a new battery from 2016, and using greenify to kill apps from running in the background. Of course, if I was on LTE watching youtube videos all day my battery wouldn't last as long, but that's not how I use my phone.
3-3.5 hours SOT is still pretty good, especially if you the Facebook app. That app is a notorious battery killer.

4-5 hours SOT here too. Same time with MM but now I'm on the AICP rom for my ls990 using standard kernel and clock speeds. Wifi, BT, and network data is always on. Only mod I'm using is a thermal pad on the SoC. Then again, I'm on my 6th battery so I'm not sure if that makes a diff.
At one time I had Facebook installed and it's messenger app. Together, they dropped my SOT to about 2 hours. Now that's ridiculous and offensive. I only use the Facebook website through the web browser instead, and that restored my SOT to 4-5 again.

Battery Drain Issue in Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1

My battery is draining like crazy in ideal conditions
Apps like FM Radio, com.secureuiservice, MBN Test are eating up the battery please figure out a solution
Try wiping cache and dalvik in recovery. It'll make the drain go away.

Try turning off automatic sync
Fingerprint sensor is the culprit
Uninstall fm radio, it drains 15-20% of battery.
I had the same problem .... What i did was flashed rr rom intalled all my apps and then changed kernel .... I use the darkonah kernel latest version you can find it in roms kernels and other developments forum...... I also installed naptime and used greenify.... Now i get 10-11 hrs SOT and the battery does not deain at all when screen is off.....
Follow this guide and removed all those bloatware apps: https://forum.xda-developers.com/as.../guide-remove-stock-apps-root-access-t3794729

For overall drain check what's draining that.

Not sure what the problem is with your phone. I'm getting up to 5.5 days and close to 18 hrs SOT on a single charge with minimal standby drain, with my ZB602KL - all with just some internal tweaking/fine tuning (no third party power saving/data throttling apps whatsoever).
Have you tried limiting background activity and data usage on your apps? That seemed to work well for me. Or even cutting down your animation speeds to 0.5x?
I've just installed AdGuard to monitor and/or block background data activity. Pretty good so far. I've also just installed Naptime - by Francisco Franco, with minimal adb commands to enforce Aggressive Doze in standby mode. You should give it a try. It's amazing! Sends my phone into deep sleep seconds after screen off and versatile enough to let in calls and messages and allow other activities. It can take hours of standby for the battery level to drop by 1%!
Check it out on Play Store.

Guys, I actually have 2 screenshots to share but when I tried to upload them here, xda asks for an URL. I don't have an online image account. Only images saved on my laptop (I don't like the idea of my pix in the public domain). If there's an alternative way to share the images here, please advise me. Sorry, I'm not very tech savvy.
Btw, correction. Not 18 hours SOT but in my opinion, CLOSE to 18 hours - 17hrs and 23 mins to be exact (over 5 days, 13 hrs and 30 minutes).
AVinaSh_S, the first full-on, intensive test I did when I first got my phone was without any assistive apps. I got 16 hrs and 16 mins of SOT over 4 days, 4 hours and 42 minutes with the M1 in it's raw form (but with some internal tweaks like denying background activities and data usage of apps - all of which come standard with Oreo 8.1).
Neither did I use any assistive apps in the second test - normal every day use, for which I got the above mentioned 17 hrs + over 5.5 days - again with the M1 in it's original state (but with the same tweaks mentioned above).
It's only now that I'm running the phone with AdGuard and Naptime. I have not concluded this test yet. I'm hoping to see an improvement over the last test - under normal, every day use conditions.

No. Adguard is not available on PS. I'm trying out the free one that allows for a 7 day trial period. I might buy it if it works well. The content blocker only works with the Yandex browser - which I don't use.
Naptime however is available for free on PS. It works very well. I confirmed it's functionality with GSam Battery Monitor.

A good stable rom for battery backup?

Hi all
I thought I'd ask the experts about what are in your opinion some good roms for battery backup?
I'm currently on stock MIUI Global 11.0.5.0 (PFGMIXM) but I'm not much satisfied with the battery backup (5-6hours SOT).
I need some stable firmware since I use my phone mostly for work, no gaming, no social media, just phone calls, messaging and some light youtube usage.
Thanks!
Ion OS is brilliant, especially for battery - sourceforge.net/projects/i-o-n/files/device/xiaomi/lavender/ Around 10-11 hours SOT.

Miui right now just being laggy and jerky sometimes with animation, thus pixel based cutom rom just some having like miui and some is dont. I prefer evolution x on latest build, which smooth operation per my multitasking usage(on stock kernel obviously), whilst the battery just doing better other than resurection remix, pixel experience etc.

Could you be more specific about how long the battery lasts, I mean that if you are using your phone for like 4-5 days then 5-6h of SOT is quite normal for this phone but if you meant just one day then it should be about 10-11h of SOT as there will be less energy consumed by things like cellural network.
I had pretty good battery backup with POSP by AmulayaX but i found out that slow-motion isn't working so i switched to StagOS (unofficial EAS by Jimgsey) and i like this rom but i have some small issues and i consider switching to official.

5-6h SOT in 2 days. I'm not playing games I only use my phone for calls, whatsapp, emails and web navigation.
I'm on dual sim though.
I could never achieve 10h SOT in stock. Any hints for some good rom that can do that?
Thanks

Someone already suggested you to try Ion Official for Redmi Note 7 as it is EAS & feature rich also. But for more you can try Bliss ROM as well. Last but not the least LineageOS 17.1 Official. I'm currently using Bliss ROM. It is the best in all others upto now i have tried.

U can't reach 10 h SOT by 2 days on battery.
Calculate 0,5 %/h idle drain
2 days 48h - 5 hours Active drain = 43 h idle time
43 x 0,5 = 21,5 %
so round about 20% battery is lost in idle time
so 80 % for active drain.
Charging battery at 15%
80-15 = 60% left for active drain
On mostly all roms i tested i get an active drain by 10% per hour
Wud be for u 6 hours SOT
Seems normal drain with ur MIUI
But aosp roms are so much faster and mutitasking so much better compared to MIUI.
I only got 3 GB model and there no way back to MIUI
I gave PixelE+ a try but I'm experiencing less battery backup than stock (and some random freezes too).
I'll try ION or Xiaomi.eu in the coming days.
Meanwhile what about changing kernel? Any good recommendations please?

for me changing kernel isnt a game changer
its all about SOT, screen brightness for sure and good working deep sleep.
Screen is biggest power consumer.
Kernel maybe change covernor and undervolt cpu. sure this brings a lil power. but trust me it makes just a very lil differece. u cant compare ur drain because ur usage isnt same.
if wanna judge a kernels power consumtion u have to do all the same.
watching 2 hours youtube, play same game aso with same screen brightness with same wifi state aso.
i bet theres no "big" difference.

I'm currently on Pixel and I can make 4h SOT in 2 days. I don't play games or use YouTube. Just phone calls, whatsapp, browser, emails and I'm always on dual sim.
With stock MIUI I used to reach 5-6h SOT in 2 days so with my personal usage Pixel is worse in battery life compared to stock MIUI.
I'm thinking of trying something like Xiaomi.EU now since it's based on MIUI stock...
As i say, for me there are just few differences in battery life from rom to rom.
Miui is slow and bloated compared to non miui based custom rom.
When u just installed new rom u have more drain cause of trying out the rom. U have more usage compared to ur old rom. Lets get rom settle for a while before judge.
At least all rom take power. All rom need display. I think display always takes same power in every rom when u got same brightness.
At home in ur wlan mostly watching YouTube u get better battery (maybe under 8% per hour drain maybe less) than navigating in the sun with mobile data (cost 12% per hourand more) battery

I'm with you however I'm currently on Xiaomi.eu 11 (debloated) and battery backup is much better than Pixel. I hit 6h SOT on the first run, expected to improve in the coming days after a few charging cycles.
Same usage, the exact same apps running.
