[DISCUSSION-TEST][25 JULY]CPU Governors and I/O Schedulers in DooMLoRD's Kernels

Since the moment that most of x10 users are using custom kernels and our devs are working hard to add new features and add-ons, i think that this thread can be a good place for most of us,like me, that would like to know much more about technical specs and options and for all devs, like a place for reporting experiences and give suggestions.
Before starting..
ALL CREDITS AND MANY THANKS TO:
- zdzihu for providing us custom kernels and for all his hard work in x10 development
- DooMLoRD for modding and adding new features and helping us with kindly support
Link to Z’s kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135475
Link to DooMLoRD’s kernels: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172200
In the last few days, DooMLoRD has worked over his kernel ( v03) in order to add new I/O scheduler types and new CPU governors and he has let us the possibility to choose all settings we want and prefer (according with his kernel’s name “Power to the people”). So now, the objectives of this thread are:
-Post and link information about scheduler and cpu governor types
-Post tests, opinions, comparisons and suggestions about differences between them and over different ROMs
So standard posting form should be as below:
Kernel type ….(including max OC frequency used)
ROM and baseband version …
…all that you want regarding cpu governors and schedulers… ( benchmark tests are very appreciated )
Here, there are some starting and basic information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I/O_scheduling
http://www.mjmwired.net/kernel/Documentation/cpu-freq/governors.txt
I hope this thread can be useful for all and may become a way of improving our experiences with the x10!!
Best regards
Kekko
my phone wroks fine @ 1152 with doom's kernel v3 x series (UNDERVOLTED)
@1152 interactive governer is the fastest and doesn't drain the battery. smartass though i think it's less battery consuming but is laggy.performance governer: wlod after a pretty time
@1190 smartass:so laggy and can't use it. interactive &performance :reboot
what's strange for me here is that with WB cust. kernerl 4.0.3 phone reboots always @1113 and didn't be stable till i reduced the MAX frequency to 1036
now with doom's kernel it's stable @1152 is that because of undervoltage?!! and if so..can i reach @1228 with more UV ?!!
for me i didn't use the s series (same kernel with stock voltage) so can't decide
I got error: "failure at line 1: copy_dir package: system system: installation aborted" when flash Doomkernel v4b for lockbootloader. Can u help me to fix it?
Yeah sometimes you get errors but still the kernel gets installed
Go to Settings-> about phone and check the kernel version
How about others added in v6 of doom's kernel
such as: smartassV2,interactiveX and etc..

Seeking help from any Developers in the making of S3 NEO Custom Kernel

Hi Guys,
I'm a newbie on developing, I'm searching someone who can help me to make a custom kernel for our phone.
I've already made a fork from Rox source kernel, I've added (for now):
- intellidemand governor
- intelliactive governor
- Intelli thermal 1 & 2 from the greatest Faux
I want to made a good kernel with good performance but.. I'm new and I need your help!
Who can help me?:crying:
Edit: for now i've done:
- CPU underclock to 249 Mhz
- GPU Overclock to 533 Mhz
Removed intellithermal (will be replaced with francisco franco one)
Removed intellidemand due to FC (maybe a my error, i will retry later)
Here is my github, any help is appreciated

It's a bit unstable, lots of FC and soft reboot. I'm finding where is the problem. When everything works well i will share it in alpha preview

would be awesome, thanks. there is also a ram-bus overclock to 533 (instead of 400) possible for msm8226
Xiaomi Redmi 1S got same specs like our s3 neo.
Xiaomi Redmi 1S got good kernels and you my copy some fututes for cm12 kernel base and try to imlated to our s3 neo for rox cm12 development.
Hope im help you a little. Good luck.
So how's it all going?

[TWEAK][S800/801] Tunable interactive & VM optimized - performance, battery, coolness
This is a small tweak to optimize the interactive governor that will makes your phone to be more smoother and cooler, also CPU clock won't gain aggressive like Sony's setting. I edit some VM (Virtual Memory) as well, maybe it'll increase some performance and battery life.
Feature:
Code:
Interactive governor optimized: based-on CM 12.1 kernel settings
VM optimized: based-on Kickasskernelizer by @[URL="https://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=3357461"]zeppelinrox[/URL]

[B]Thanks to @dontbelive and @PDesire gave me suggestion for this update[/B]
**********************
[STRIKE][B][COLOR=green]30 May 2016[/COLOR][/B]: force enable Core Control (main msm thermal part) and
VDD Restriction, hope it would reduce temperature from restriction of VDD
(cpu voltage), from that point will gain a little performance even S801 is really
good at keep the stable in heavy loads.[/STRIKE]
It seems that there's a problem with VDD on shinano, removed.
**********************
What is Core control?
It's a thermal framework from qualcomm and work best together with mpdecision, it should be forced to turn on, then you have to choose between VDD Restriction or Temperature Throttle.
VDD Restriction: limit cpu voltage to reduce temperature. Doesn't work if Core Control is off, doesn't turn on together with Temperature Throttle or device will have some unexpected behavior.
Temperature Throttle: throttle cores and clock speed when devices reach a certain temperature. Doesn't work if Core Control is off, doesn't turn on together with VDD Restriction or device will have some unexpected behavior.

Requirement:
Lollipop 5.1.1 (23.4.A.1.264)
Marshmallow 6.0.1 (23.5.A.0.570)
It might work on other firmwares as long as Lollipop and upper.
Recovery (TWRP is recommend)
Stock kernel is highly recommend, it also works on other kernels.
P/s: MM versions should work on LP, there's just a very small change in files that I editted from stock.
I've test on Z2 (LP only), it should works on Z1, Z1c, Z3, Z3c (S800/801).
Install: Flash via recovery and all done.
If you wanna back to old setting, go to /system/etc, delete two files init.qcom.post_boot.sh, set_governor.sh and rename those one with *_bak OR flash the revert zip in the attachment.

Some simple question:
1. What's this mod requires? (eg. Root, Recovery, etc) It seems for UBL or somewhat?
2. Determined to question #1 does this works under LBL?
Thanks for advance

1. Root & recovery is required, of course.
2. It works on both UB/LB, but I didn't test with custom kernel because I'm using LB.
Awesome bro
Good work lml
Testing it on Infocus m810!
Good gob so far!
After night of battery test, I have got the same battery life but with extra 30 % performance.
SD801-AC, 2gb
AMAZING!!!!
Much better than of performance, same battery life as on demand!
Made installation as init.d script. Initiated from init.qcom.post_boot. easy-to-remove.
For those who has tried, Is this safe for Z1? There a battery change?
xperia z locked 5.1.1 existenz rom here. anyone tried?? is it usefell and/or safe? thanks.

It should work on Z1 because it uses msm8974 board too, but my aim is improve performance, not improve battery.

I've just edited values which are in msm8974, Xperia Z used apq8064 board so it won't be effect.

init.qcom.post_boot.sh will run before init.d scripts, and maybe someone don't have init.d support, but that's your choice

It doesn't matter if it's Snapdragon S4 Pro or 800, 801 etc etc, setgovernor.sh is and works the same for all Xperia stock roms, as long as you have the governor working with kernel it will apply values that support being edited, others will be ignored.

I think it doesn't, because I see no init.qcom.post_boot.sh in /system/etc direction.

Almost Xperia firmware can use this tweak but the value was edited for msm8974 only, it will cause problem with hotplug and up/downscale CPU. And all values in setgovernor.sh can be moved to init.qcom.post_boot.sh so as long as your ROM support to run it (init.qcom.post_boot.sh), no need to have setgovernor.sh.
Is it possible to find the files for mp_decision hotplug and manual edit them in my device? Running stock kernel and the only hotplug available is a bit crazy with my max frequencies.
After flashing this on my Xperia Z Ultra, my boot logo and animation is missing @[email protected]

When you say 'cause problems', do you mean phone will not function correctly, or just that those particular functions won't work right if you choose to call on them? I have Z1c (krait), so if I flash this, will it give me the performance boost but I just have to avoid certain settings?

"Problem" means about hotplug and core clock, hotplug is core plugged-in/plugged-out (on/off core) and core clock is up/downscale CPU speed, they won't work correctly. And of course this mod will work on Z1c.

Khaon's Kernel and GPU overclock.

Hi and welcome on forum.
I in this forum quite while but only just for read and collecting information.
I have Nexus 10 with AICP 6.0.1. To unlock potential of this tablet i install custom kernel from @Khaon.
In first post its stated:
- UV and OC both for the GPU AND CPU supported
Unfortunately i can only increase CPU speed as well as CPU voltage.
I don't have option to change GPU frequency.
To do this im using "Kernel Adiutor".
Can you help me with my question??
Regards

Sorry for the late reply.
it is normal you don't see anything in kernel audiutor because :
1) latest kernel of mine( marshmallow) was started from scratch and I didn't add gpu support
2) kernel audiutor 's design doesn't allow to easily include gpu control for our device. The easiest solution i could find was to edit some init.d script.
Now that I got more time I will include again my gpu patches so gpu full control is back

benchmarking with custom rom kernel and tweaks(help)

please post a tutorial how to get max geekbench 3 and antutu scores and your result
