Mi 5s upcoming Android 8 custom ROMs debate - Xiaomi Mi 5s Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello people.
I DO have a big question. I'd appreciate your help.
I'm planning to buy a MI 5s, but I don't know if there would be an excellent ROM like SLIM or PARANOID for it in Android 8. Currently, they support MI 5 (Gemini), but what about MI 5S (Capricorn) in Android 8????

The short answer is that ROM development for the MI 5s is lacking and there are not many choices, once xiaomi releases a 8.0 based ROM we will get the files we need for the camera and such and then Lineage will become available and maybe some others like RR, that said you can always build your own ROM pretty easily and use your favorite as a base even if its not official...

That's the direction i'm heading in I just have to find the time...

Why no activity!

I hope I'm not being disrespectful to anyone but how come no Dev love here!
I mean this is a wonderful device, made for Global market and a marvel in build
quality and design, IMHO.
Actually they are not source available for the Note 2
So we can't put LineageOS on it. Another problem, the Mi Mix. Everyone prefer the Mix to the Mi Note 2. So, a lot of dev will go to the Mix.
If Xiaomi put the kernel source of the Mi Note 2, I will try to dev LineageOS (not sure).
Thank you for replying back.
I was afraid you'd say "mi mix"! Also your comments do give me a little hope but
I'm in a position of being able to sell my device for almost no lost and to be honest I'm leaning toward that decision !
I actually like the preinstalled ROM. It's not Android 7, but one of the best Android 7 ROM's I've seen.
I'm also disappointed with the lack of interest in this phone. I thought it was supposed to be a flagship.

When will we get MIUI 9 for our device Mi A1?

There is some link present on google which provides Miui9 which can be flashed using MiFlash tool. (website is 'lineageosroms') can someone confirm if it is working?

Guys enough! we are never getting MIUI from Xiaomi, someone might port it but it won't be as good as the miui they build, you bought a phone with stock android, deal with it, if you don't like stock sell your phones and buy that crap called miui.
P.S.
The linked website just has a download link to the official firmware of A1, not miui 9

You have to realize there's a reason why people buy Mi A1 over Mi 5X, and it's LTE frequencies. Personally, I'd like to try MIUI on Mi A1, but I still like stock Android more tho.
Then go an buy a Note 4.

The people who buys A1 for the LTE reason should have known what are buying, a pure android phone, not miui, and that there will never be miui unless someone ports it.

I think there will definitely be a port, because Mi 5X is practically the same device, the only thing which has to be done is to set kernel source public by Xiaomi

But why not just buy a note 4 then... im just puzzled by the will to have miui on this device, other then the dual camera your much better off with a note 4 4GB version if you want miui... its cheaper, it has the same specs and best of all for all miui nutjobs, it has miui 9... mods need to start removing these posts, I see them all over forums... its like if someone bought a pixel 2 device and would keep asking "when is touchwiz coming to this device from google", it's not and if its ported don't complain that its not very good.. just saying, this device is called A1 because its AndroidOne not miui.

I don't really care about having MIUI on A1, I bought it because of the AndroidOne and pure Android.
But it's always nice having a wide variety of options to choose from

Roms will come from devs when kernel source is released. Until then don't expect anything

WHY MIUI???

I see a lot of people asking for MIUI.. There are all these Redmi devices and other devices from Xiaomi with MIUI.. This phone (Mi A1) is a device with stock Android.. Why sould it be different from the other Android one devices???? Because you want MIUI?? There are people including myself who bought this device for the software. And not for MIUI.. When I had the LG Nexus 5 years before, I didnt remember anyone asking for a rom with LG UX skin.. Stop with this MIUI.. I get it.. Most people like it and it's okay.. My brother has the Mi 6 and he loves it.. I personally don't like it.. And I would never buy a Mi 6 or a Mi Mix or a Redmi Note device and ask all the time the developers to build a stock like Android rom because I don't like MIUI buti would buy a OnePlus or a Pixel or a Moto phone....

MiUi for a1?

Is anyone trying to port the miui rom for mi a1? I know kernel sources are not there but there is a kernel by which we can port the rom atleast... And ya pls dont give suggestions like to buy mi 5x and other things..please we dont want that.. and also dont tell here that miui sucks or its laggy or anything.. everyone has their own workspace....
I dont like miui, but i tried to port, bootloop animation, when i have free time i continue to boot it up
But idk maybe there exist many bugs
Just buy a god damn 5x
Guys its a huge req to everyone to not give suggestions like to buy mi 5x
you can buy mi 5x...you know
There is xiaomi 5x, you can buy that one.

You know you can buy MI 5X.
Everyone will be giving you advise to buy mi 5x coz both r identical twins in terms of hardware. So it may be very ridiculous to buy a mi A1 and install miui on it . When you have a thing in market then why experiment with other to make like it.

I guess it has been said an uncountable number of times: A1 and Mi 5x ARE NOT IDENTICAL in terms of hardware.

They are not identical but on the outside they are very similar and they have roughly the same price.
So, return your A1 and get a 5x, bruh

If band 20 is really important for someone and wants miui than he will buy phone like Redmi Note 4 which has similar specs and its cheaper than A1.
@prashantxpe Just out of curiousity: Are you going to open a new thread every two months about wether or not someone has ported MIUI for you? Two months ago you also mentioned that you can help porting. How far is your progress here? Do you have a github tree others can contribute to?
Nope...next one will probably be about volte or "where is Oreo, shame on you xiaomi".

From S8 to Mi 9 SE

Hi guys,
Is it logical to go from an Galaxy S8 to a Xiaomi Mi 9 SE? Is it worth it?
Please help
Thank you
I don't think it's worth it.
Why would you want to switch from S8 to Mi 9 SE though? If you really want to upgrade, It's better to pick the actual Mi 9 instead of the SE version because it's better in almost every aspect.
