New! Three UK help required? Issue with WiFi calling and want some advice... - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi Sorry if I am posting in the wrong area, but first time here
Basically, I have a Samsung Galaxy S8 which is being used on the Three UK Network but because I did not buy the phone directly from Three, they will not enable WiFi calling and I have to use their app instead, which is rubbish!
I want my phone to think it was bought from Three UK so this feature works. I guess by rooting it and adding their firmware etc this will work, but unsure?
Can anyone advise me on this?
Thanks

About using the 3G in Canada for Fido

Hi guys i have looked through alot of threads and i couldn't find the info. Basically i bought a HTC HD2 from Hong Kong back into Jan. Recently i have apply a data plan which i really want to use but i've tried every setting from either my service provider(fido) or from the people online but i still can't get it to work. I called HTC a couple times and i've told taht there's no way around since they said the GPRS bandwidth doesnt match the on in North america. Does anyone knows if it's true? And is there another way to take around? my 1 last question would be does changing the ROM, firmware, radio would help? Thank you so much for every input from you guys!

From what I understand, it is true. The Touch HD2 you bought physically cannot use the 3g band in any network in Canada. I dont' think this is a software limitation, but a hardware limitation so there is nothing a ROM upgrade can do.

MMS

Hello, I know this question has come up many times. I hate to start a new thread about an old topic but im flat out lost. I just switched from my iPhone 4 to a Samsung Focus. It was sim unlocked and running 7.5 mango when i received it. Everything works fine on my carrier (i have a small local carrier) except the mms. Is there any way to edit the MMS settings yet or dev unlock it? Honestly I have no idea even where to start with all this. Any advice is greatly appreciated and again I'm sorry for starting a new thread for this old topic. Thanks
Download network connection from the Samsung zone in the marketplace.
Thanks, but since I posted this I have Dev unlocked the phone and Interop unlocked it so i could do the turn on APN settings. When i do that and reboot it says it cant find my data settings, I think because my carrier doesn't offer 3g and I've been told that edge wont push out the settings. I also tried the Samsung app network profile and it only gives me the ATT option. Any other options for me to get this working?
Thanks for the help
another question...is there any way to edit the ATT profile that the Network Profiles app pick up?
Hello again, I was just wondering if a solution has been found for this problem?

[Q] concerncerns about Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note n7000 from the Far East.

Hi All....Firstly I apologise if I'm putting this thread in the wrong section but as a novice please forgive me...
I am thinking of buying the N700 from panamoz.com as it's cheap but they have said there units are imported from the far east and there for cannot guarantee if they will work in the UK...
so my questions to the forum are:
1. If a phone is unlocked wouldn't it work if I put a T-mobile sim in it?
2. as the phone is shipped in from the Far East some Eng(UK) apps won't , work or be available in English UK...if not is there a way to configure the phone for them to work...?
3. Would I need to Install Mobile phone specifics configurations in order for the note to work??
Thanks for your help in advance..
Neil
1. If it is factory unlocked then you should have no trouble using your UK T-Mobile SIM in it.
2. I don't see why any app wouldn't work on it, never encountered such an issue with any Android device I've used. If you do get issues then there's always custom roms .
3. You may have to set up the APN settings if you keep the stock foreign ROM, but that is easy and takes a couple of seconds with a single Google search. Of course custom roms generally have huge APN lists built in and would have your necessary configuration.
Hope that helps.

Remember to make sure it is an N7000 and note an I9220. They are different, albeit slightly.

[Q] Got a Note 3 N9005 from US in India, have queries!

Hi All,
I just got my hands on a Note 3 N9005 which I ordered from http://mygsmstore.com/242-samsung-n9005-galaxy-note-3-lte-32gb-black.html, in US, and delivered via a friend here.
Now, the box has the SIM Lock EU sticker in french (so am guessing this is a France N9005). But as per the link and my talks, this is factory unlocked (yes, I asked this again from the guys @ gsmstore).
Please bear as I am yet to go ahead with the initialisation and configuration, but am asking my queries first.
My queries follow -
1. Although I am yet to check this, will I get the KitKat etc updates OTA here in India on this device?
2. And these will be the French/EU ROM, then?
3. Will I need to make any configurations / settings for GPRS / 3G here in Delhi?
If anyone has any idea or steps which I can follow, I would be obliged.
But please keep it simple, I am a techie but a new one in Android.
(Mods: I have posted this at the Indian thread too for any help, please let me know if that's an issue, thanks.)
Thanks all.

It'll be EU region locked. You can try CF's region away and see if that fixes it, if not then you'll have to use a custom ROM.
Yeah you'll have to configure the 3G but it's usually just adding your carriers APN settings.
well first of all if you haven't put a simcard in your phone then read what regions are mentioned in that sticker on the box and try to arrange for a sim from that region, because you'll have to insert it one time in the beginnning for the device to release region lock, then operate with whatever sim you want
i don't think there will be any such thing as french rom, even if there is the difference will be very minimal, so no worries there, and yes you can still get the ota updates as well
lastly, no you don't have any special settings for 3g;although you will get a message from carrier it self regarding gprs settings as soon as you switch your phone on after inserting the sim and then you can set them as default(although the phone it do it automatically)
let me know about the region lock though.
cheers.

Hi buddy
I went ahead and got this beast from g s m store - arena the link is as below -
http://mygsmstore.com/242-samsung-n9005-galaxy-note-3-lte-32gb-black.html
i got this delivered in the us which was brought back by a friend. If you want it to be delivered in india the cost is a bit more for shipping but i am not sure about the taxes octroi or custom duty
The device is unlocked and working fine on Vodafone Delhi
Only thing to keep in mind is that there is no warranty in india.
As for the taxes for local delivery it may vary as totally depends on the custom officer
Let me know if you need more help

Vodafone UK, unbranded S7E, any way to get WiFi calling at all?

[SOLVED]
Please see this comment for how I weirdly got WiFi Calling.
Hi guys, signal in my house is horrific - I've been trying to get WiFi calling for ages, and loved it when I was with EE.
I'm now on Voda and don't have it.
From what I've seen, it doesn't appear to be possible with an unbranded phone (why Voda!?) through any normal/configuration means.
I have the option to turn it on under settings -> applications -> phone -> wifi calling, and I've sent 'CALLING' to 97888, but only get the confirmation of the text, and nothing to confirm it's been set up. However, I don't get the little icon to signify that I'm using wifi calling.
Is there any way I can get wifi calling?
Does it require flashing?
If I'm going to have to root/flash anyway to get this feature, is there a way to do it one of the nice custom ROMs I see on this forum, but retain the vodafone branding?
Thanks all.
Easiest way is to flash a Vodafone firmware. Had to do the same to get EE WI-FI calling working. There is an option in unbranded firmware but activating it does nothing

Just flash latest Vodafone firmware that way you will not trip knox and you should get wifi calling
I suggest you check with your provider, if the unbranded phone was not bought from them.
Wifi calling may not be allowed because the imei is not registered to a vodafone branded phone.
They may have blocked the wifi calling feature.
Hey,
I've got the Google Pixel phone which I bought from Carphone Warehouse. Vodafone have told me that WiFi calling should work with it without any special firmware. I've tried using my SIM card in a friend's Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which he bought from Carphone Warehouse and it worked! I too didn't get a text message from Vodafone when I texted 'CALLING', but WiFi calling is now active on the SIM card, albeit not the phone. Have been in discussion with Google who have escalated my problem to their technical people. Hope it can be resolved very quickly, otherwise returning the Pixel, which I don't want to do.
Thanks very much for the replies guys - I have something to report back to you all too. Unsure HOW this happened, but it happened... I somehow got WiFi Calling.
I'm scared to try do anything else like switch off my phone, because I don't want to lose my new WiFi Calling.
Here's what happened:
I have an EE iPhone 5s, locked to carrier. I'd recently requested an unlock from EE. It had been switched off, and was recently hard factory reset. Unsure of iOS version.
I put my Vodafone SIM in the iPhone today to see if it had been unlocked... it hadn't. SIM was in there for roughly 1 minute.
I put the SIM back into my S7E... started getting the usual texts from Vodafone about changing SIM, blah blah.
Somehow, I now have WiFi Calling on my unbranded S7E on Vodafone!
At no point did I switch off my S7E during SIM changing.
*NOTE* I'm not sure if something has changed recently, but I definitely did NOT see the WiFi Calling symbol before I did this:
I have no idea why/how and I can only speculate.
But... there we are!
Not sure if anyone else can try/vouch for this, as I realise it's a VERY particular set of circumstances, but I hope this helps someone!
Please do respond to me if you try this out and get it working... it'd be interesting to see if it works for others, and maybe figure out why it works.
Cheers!
