Random reboots. Up to 15 a day - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

My Mi A1 keeps rebooting every half hour or so. There is no specific app or process that I can point a finger to. It just freezes momentarily and reboots. It's extremely frustrating. Has anyone experienced this with the phone? I have not rooted or anything. I think the issue is more so after the September security patch.

I haven't experienced this. You should backup your data and factory reset. If the issue persists you should contact the seller for a replacement.

Use Google backup for app data and settings and transfer files and photos onto your computer. Backing up your apps won't be possible without root unfortunately...

Hi, I managed to isolate the problem to a specific SIM card in a specific location. As per my understanding, this is something to do with corrupt packets of data being transmitted via your network provider through a specific site (or several sites), which causes a reboot of your device. To isolate the problem do the following:
1. Switch off any one SIM card from Settings > Sim Cards
2. Monitor your phone for issues.
3. If the issue is replicated, switch on the SIM card switched off in '1' above and switch off the other SIM.
4. Monitor your phone for issues.
This should be able to identify the corrupt SIM. At this point, I permanently switched off the trouble SIM while at work (which was where the reboots kept occurring) and the phone started working normally without any reboots. I would switch on the trouble SIM in other areas and it did not cause any issues. A week later, I decided to do a SIM replacement on the trouble SIM, and this has managed to reduce the number of reboots to once a week, which I can live with.
Hope this helps!

Same here mate. Phone reboots 20+ times per day. I tried to do factory reset over 10 times, fastboot ROM flash. Nothing helps. Apps crashes, Chrome "Woops", Phone rebooting. This was last time, when I bought Xiaomi phone.

i have found the problem finally bro, the culprit is chrome webview.
to fix this -
enable developer settings and turn on "multiprocess webview"
disable Chrome and then go to playstore and search for "android webview" update the app and the reboot problem will be gone

So as soon as I enabled Chrome again, problems came back. And WHY THE F**K THEY WON'T ALLOW US TO SWITCH BETWEEN CHROME AND ANDROID WEBVIEW?
Anytips?
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the tip, but still no luck =(
So I cleaned and reflashed everything with MiFlash. 2 days now, still no problems, I'll keep here updated if any thing shows up.
Another problem is that I still didn't get Feb security patch. Tried everything! Did a factory reset, became beta tester of play services and cleared framework data and cache but still nothing! But

Guess I'll have to go with that, unfortunately.
I wanted to keep my bootloader locked so I don't see that annoying message of unlocked bootloader.
I finally got Feb update patch but I'm still having reboot problems.
Starting to think I have a defective phone since this problem was solved in almost every case I saw =(

Apps Hang and dont donwload from Market

I am having this problem recently. I try to download any app or an update to any app. It will just sit at starting download and never download.
I am on Fresh ROM 1.0
I did update some apps after installing the ROM so that's not the problem.
I also have a problem that if I clear the cache, when I reboot Everything force and keeps force closing forever. Whats up with that? isn't the cache supposed to recompile on reboot?
I tried clearing the cache to fix the market issue to no avail (beacuse of all the force closes never got to see what happened after clearing cache). I tried clearing the cache from recovery and using Fresh's app installer, and both times tons of force closes.
Someone please HELP!
U probably need to login to gtalk. I had the same problem from using autostarts. Jus open the gtalk app, it will/should sign u in automatically.
this is not a gtalk issue. gtalk is not even related to what problem he has. i had it happen to me on my eris when i was playing around in the bootloader. when i started back up everything force closed and would not start. only sugetion i can give you on the force close it is a factory reset or ruu reset both will work. as far as downloads not starting are you rooted?
Yes, to install a custom ROM you need to be rooted. Tried the gtalk sing in to fix the Market issue and no dice. Still hanguing...

So I'm not going to call you out or something, but please read before you speak. Gtalk is MAJORLY tied in to the market and it is a documented fix from google themselves to try signing in to gtalk to fix stalled downloads.
Even though it doesn't work for everyone (depending on the reason it's stalled) it IS related.

Hundreds (maybe thousands?) of posts. Starting back in March and dating all the way until today. Google hasn't been able to resolve the issue. I can tell you that what has always worked for me is a combination of cancel download > disable wifi > disable mobile data > enable mobile data > try download again.
Didn't work? Reboot and repeat. Eventually it will go......
Thanks a lot flipz. I'll try that

95% of the time your second sugestion works. it may be that gtalk has major issues with stalled downloads but ussually i have this issue when i start my download over wifi for some reason it just never connect to the google server but when i kill the download and connect over 3G or Edge it works everytime on my G1. that's been a documented fix too. this issue only happens more frequently on custom roms than stock android roms. so it's more of a rom issue that googe issue. we're all here to help each other not trash talk each other. from my point of veiw gtalk may have some type of issue but it's more with the rom cooks than the app itself and it's not their fault either gtalk was desighned to work on googles cookie cutter os not on the home brew roms so errors happen you just have to know how to sweat talk your andoid to doing things when issues happen. the problem i had with your post was you only stated the gtalk issue when the wifi issue is more prevelent. i wasn't sure if he was on stock os or custom os so i asked about it. then i would have given him the instructions on turning off the the wifi, killing the downloads, and restarting the phone. like you told him to in the second post cause that seem to work better than the gtalk method.

sorry. i did not read your post clearly thought when you said fresh you ment fresh install. haven't really been keeping up with the hero roms to much and thier names still waiting for my eris to get it's turn at root. when i saw your post it just reminded me of how my rooted G1 would not start downloads over wifi. so i asked rooted or not just to be on the safe side.
the thing that got me a little heated was when he said "not to call you out" then he goes into a trist about how wifi seems to be the better fix.
by the way did you get your problem fixxed?

I ended up factory resetting and now everything downloads normally
So... apps were downloading perfect from market UNTIL I restored a nandroid backup. Afterwards, Apps hang again. I mean exactly after restoring, went to the market and the problem is there again. Can the problem be tied to restoring backups? Or just coincidence?
Update:
Got the downloads working after clearing the cache of every single google application on the phone as well as IM.
After this, started downloading the app and it still hung. Opened gtalk and exactly as it signed in it started downloading fine.
I tried the afore mentioned fixes and had no luck, so for anyone who has this issue and has not been able to resolve it, this is another workaround.
Just FYI to anyone still with problems, I had problems again today EXACTLY after restoring a backup again.
This post I quoted by Zippy-man did the trick today Great Help..

[Q] Nexus 7 3G - SIM Issue

I bought my nexus 7 3G early January.I haven't rooted the device or done anything to it as I'm satisfied with the stock vanilla experience.
Just recently I noticed I'm not connected to the network anymore. I tried to reboot and checked the SIM card as well. The problem seems to be with the software. It doesn't ask for the pin when i reboot, and when i go into settings > mobile networks, I get this error: "unfortunately, Settings has stopped.
Please help
Just couldn't wait anymore. So I bit the bullet, backed up storage to my PC and did a factory reset.
It fixed the problem!

Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped

After flashing the 4.4.2 firmware to my Note 3, I get the following error message once the device turns on: "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped". I can just click ok and the message goes away but it shouldn't be appearing in the first place so does anyone know how to make it go away? An the phone works fine.
Yes I did a clean install, tried clearing the data and cache from app manager and any of the obvious ideas.
Anybody else having this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated!

try doing a factory reset, if this does not work then try flashing a different 4.4.2 or re-downloading the one you flashed and trying again.

you have already downloaded and installed a different version of 4.4.2????
if you are getting the problem on multiple roms then you must be doing something wrong during the flashing process.

Hmm, Tried a reflash? -- if no good, reflash with a full wipe that usually solves 99% of issues. Only thing I can think of
I had that problem too and it almost made me to hit my note 3 into the wall. From the first day I turned him...
My fix solution was Settings>Application Manager> Menu > Reset app preference>Reboot. Do it again if its going to be the sam outcome. I found tjat when you are force stopping aps, or closing you are going to end with those messages....

my friend
don't try to reset , wipe any thing .
i have same problem and posted before : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620340
i asked from all kings of developing , but no one could help me .
i searched on google and found out that problem maybe cause of our sim-card . maybe changing sim card your problem will be solved.
i'm almost confident that is cause of baseband " NA6" and we should wait for 4.4.2 for our region with different baseband .
be aware , this problem is with u even when try any custom rom , cause all af the are using NA5 and NA6 .
just crossing your finger and wait for new and diffrent baseban version my friend .

I had the same type of problem myself,
But on my HTC one. I was close to start the painful process of unrooting my device and go back to stock.
My problem was not having ANY network & using the phone or sms didn't work at all. I read many "solutions" on the internet but none helped.
I experimented myself and found a solution to my problem. If it can help others as well I am glad.
First go into settings, then apps.
Scroll to all applications, search for phone.apk - if you have an option to uninstall phone.apk to previous version/state do this. Reboot the phone. In my case this did the trick and everything is working properly. Hope it helps others as well.
Please respond if you tried and it worked. It may be helpful for others too.

I have a LG L70 that I rooted. I didn't install any ROM's on it. But what I did do was change the run time from Davik to ART. When the phone turned back on I received the warning Unfortunately the phone stopped working. And when I tried to factory reset the LG L70, that's when I get the error message Unfortunately com.android.phone has stopped working. Then I reset the phone back to Davik with no success. Is there a solution to fix this problem without using a PC? I can't even download anything because I can't sign in to my Google account. And trying to download direct the phone will not open any files, even the files I've saved on my SD Card. Please help. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. Going to settings>apps>all apps etc. doesn't work.

Try wiping cache, dalvik cache, system data and then factory reset (all this from recovery). I don't own a LG phone but this process is the same for almost all phones I think.

How did you wipe the cache/dalvik in this situation. I can't even reinstall anything to re-root the phone. And there is no keyboard that I can type on. The only way that I can communicate with the phone is to speak through voice mode. And that isn't always a good experience.

WiFi connected but not working

A couple days ago my WiFi(on my note 3 only) has started randomly disconnecting. It still says connected though. When I try to go to the play store or browser it won't connect. I tried to see if it was my WiFi connection, but its not the problem. All other devices work fine. It's just my note 3. I dropped it a couple days ago. Could that have messed up WiFi antenna? Also I'm only using the note 3 as a WiFi only device. It has no data plan.

Try deleting updates to and re installing google play services again. You can get it at apk mirror. Check the parenthesis matches your device before you install it.
If you are rooted and have used luckypatcher to patch an ingame purchase you need to get rid of the record of the patch within luckypatcher.
Otherwise you are looking at a reset with odin. If this doesn't solve it then the device is faulty.

I know this is way late but I ended up wiping data and going back to the rooted stock rom. The problem was still there. I didn't bother uprooting or doing it through odin. Didn't bother with the hassle. Pretty sure it was a hardware problem.

Do you installed any root wifi app?
It happened to my after restoring the passwords (binary files)
Get a new official ROM and flash it, you don't have anything to lose.

Guys, an easier way is this. Just turn on Battery Saver mode and your update or download will start immediately...

I don't think that's the case, because it took quite a lot of time
For about a week, I also have this problem.

You can also delete Google Play Services cache, this works pretty well in those cases. Even if you have problems trying to download a device system update.
Even it's data (in this case you'll have to add an account for Google's data backup again).
However, keep in mind this kind of processes won't work well if you have enabled apps, device features or Magisk modules that force device to save battery in some way.

Would be good to tell us which system you've installed.
Any custom ROM? Are you in stock?
On the first case, check ROM installation.
If it came with gapps preinstalled, better flash an updated version of that ROM (clean or dirty would change, depending of Android major verion in which that update is based), otherwise flash another gapps, I use OpenGapps.Try to flash, at least, nano gapps.
If you're on stock, things are quite different, since there you haven't the same way so solve things, more than than reflashing firmware.

Stock Android One version 9 (Pie) with regular updates. :silly:
Looks like something is screwed up there.
Is your device rooted?
I feel that would be better to backup your data and flash latest firmware with Mi Flasher tool.
The same is happening some times and on my A1 and is fully updated stock rom without root or any other thing...
I think it has to do with the latest version of Google store or Google services...
