No the fingerprint scanner is pretty quick if you tap it but slower (but still not slow) if you hold your finger on it

If you download some related to fingerprint modification apps on playstore it'll slowing down the speed

Is there a magic trick to the finger print sensor? Seems like a good 60% of the time, I still have to enter my passcode to get into the phone...
I have deleted an reregistered my finger, and even made additional entries of my thumb at other angles just in case...

Looks like it may have been due to a "double tap to lock" app I installed. I read something that said that in Marshmallow, third party apps that lock the screen disable the finger print sensor unlock.
I tested this theory by allowing the phone to lock by time out setting and also manual locking with the power button, and I got consistent results that way.
I have uninstalled the app.

i don't have any extra locking app installed but still i have to put passcode 80% of time, very annoying
In my case it's working like charm. No problem at all when I have clean thumb
Mine is working 99% just once it asked for passcode and mostly if your hands are wet.

Because when i use my fingerprint first i click on the home button and after i see the lockscreen and after my finger is readed
On huawei/Honor phone when i put my finger on the fingerprint the fingerprint unlock my phone without go on lockscreen
So do you have a solution for the same way of unlock as honor/huawei?

there is one way to do that...turn on your edge feed...when your screen is lock..swipe up and down on the edge screen til your edge feed come out..then scan your fingerprint..it will unlock your phone without hitting any button..

I know the Problem you are facing,
That's because the readers on Other phones like one's you mentioned are having an Active Fingerprint Reader which is always scanning your print even on Screen Stand-By
Samsung phones on other hand have a Passive Fingerprint Reader that gets activated by the press of the button only and so it wont scan the fingerprint until the screen is activated by any means - either you press the home button of Activate the screen by Edge Feed (swipe Up and Down on Edge)
This is a Tad Bit of less convenient because of Passiveness but it has important safety precautions like
1) phone does not get opened up if you accidentally touch the sensor in pocket
2) press is better because you can feel the pressure and know if someone pranks you while you are sleeping
3) fingerprint reader uses less ram and less battery because of being inactive most of the time

Wow nice! i had no reason to keep edge feed on, now i do, i came from OP3, so i miss the super fast fingerprint scanner
have a problem with that tablet fingerprint sensor, it works when it wants and after a while the fingerprint sensor stops working. Even the menu settings disappears, fingerprint ID is gone when I restart the effect is zero only when I reset the factors it works but after a while the fingerprint sensor refuses to work again. Does anyone has the same problem? What should I do?
Same problem here.
The fingerprint sensor stops working and disappears in configuration. After several rebooted it reappears. There seems to be no pattern.

If you are on root with magisk try disable in settings "magisk hide".

Hi, so I enabled fingerprint gestures in Settings and there will be times when the sensor and gesture won't work. I would have to either restart my phone or disable then enable gestures again for it to work. I'm not sure if this is a bug or just a poor fingerprint sensor on the S8. Anyone else having this same issue and know of a permanent fix? I contacted Samsung and all they said was to clear the fingerprint sensor cache and if that don't work try in safe mode then factory reset if necessary.

Yes.
Seems like a faulty hardware... On mine it works flawlessly.
I place my finger over the sensor, it takes half a second and the screen turns on unlocked. Also, the gestures for the notification bar (which I don't use), work without a problem.
Try wiping everything and even flashing a new stock rom from SamMobile .
If this doesn't work, bring it back where you bought it and request a new unit.
So I was watching some YouTube and I noticed one strange thing. When I swipe or touch my fingerprint sensor, video playback lags and is almost unplayable. I have disabled all gestures in settings for fingerprint sensor. Anybody got the same issue? I am using stock April without any modifications.
