New flashed rom has things I never had - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi guys!
So I have a S7E 935F unlocked.
I tried to root the device and did everything as written and shown in every tutorial but it failed to do so.
After flashing recovery TWRP and trying to flash SuperSU the device just got into a boot loop.
I was reading around and understood that this is a problem due to encryption of the FS.
So I downloaded my firmware from sammobile and flashed my device again, everything got back to normal.
Well, almost normal. The rom I have has the same build number, version, kernel, everything is the same as the original one only that I have things in the settings menu I never has, like I have "apps" twice, one for apps permissions etc and one for apps manager, I also have "T roaming" no idea what it is, never had it, I have "service provider KT twophone".
Also the settings app crash a lot, browser gets stuck a lot, can't change system language to English (app crash).
At the home screen I Samsung Pay which I never had and I have some sort of a news app integrated on my home screen and it's marked with two stripes.
I verified this is a global rom for my country, not by any mobile company as before, I really don't have a clue what to do.
Can someone please advise?

T roaming and KT twophone service are both from korean carriers, maybe you have a wrong CSC installed or your /efs/imei/mps_code.dat is messed up.
Try to download and install the latest firmware of your region using Samfirm and if it still doesn't solve the problem, open up /efs/imei/mps_code.dat and see if matches your region name.

OK so I D/L the firmware again and same thing...
I checked /efs folder and its empty, maybe the content is hidden? Anyways my device has its IMEI and I can use it to make calls... thoughts?

You need smart switch on your pc, enter your imei number in smart switch and it will download correct firmware according to your imei, then flash it. Good Luck

Hello, this smart switch method is obsolete. Use odin to re-flash your stock rom in case of any issues. Be sure to use correct and matching binary firmware.

Problem web browsing using data (4G)

I bought my phone in Singapore but due to work commitments have to move to Taiwan. I have signed up a 4G plan here but since then I'm unable to surf using Chrome or Samsung's default browser.
Also, I can't check mail using the yahoo mail app (it just loads forever), play store is inaccessible too, but facebook works.
My note 3 is not rooted, everything is by default from the Singaporean telco (Starhub). My SIM is checked using a Taiwanese phone and everything works fine, so I'm suspecting incompatibility between the Singaporean phone settings and the Taiwanese 4G network.
Can someone help me? Since I'm no smartphone expert I don't know what info to provide, tell me and I will provide whatever that is needed. Thanks

Check your APN and set it correctly to your Taiwanese 4G network carrier.
Settings -> Mobile Data -> Access Point Networks

The APN settings are ok. My settings are consistent with the phones at the carrier's shop as well as some other google resources.
I think now I have pinpoint the problem to incompatible modem. Mine is N9005DXUGNH1, but after checking my local friend's phone, hers is N900XXUDNC1. This prompts me to go flash a new modem.
But before I do that can someone tell me if my rom is KOT49H.N9005DXUGNH1, can I use the N900XXUDNC1 modem? I don wanna brick my phone...

Since the facebook app works, the APN settings should be correct. And the data connection seem to be fine.
Are you sure that facebook app works? Please double check!

Very strange. Are you sure that facebook app actually works and does not display the cache data?
Did you install any firewall app that may block the Internet connection?
Or did you use any permission manager app that may block the network permission?

I don't think they are cache data as it refreshes and showed me updates on my feed, which is the same content when I use my PC.
I don't have any app installed that would restrict internet traffic...
I still think incompatibility modem is the culprit here... something about the Singaporean modem that does not go well with the Taiwanese 4G network. I hope I could just change the modem to one that works with the Taiwanese network. If not, worst comes to worst I will just root my phone and flash a custom rom

Oh no... even a veteran is clueless... I'm screwed...
Let's just assume incompatible modem is the issue, can I flash the n900xxudnc1 modem to my n9005dxugnh1 rom? Or would you recommend me just flash a custom rom? (I'm actually prefer customs than my current stock as the stock rom is filled with bloatware. Hasn't use a custom rom yet on account of my warranty)

I'm not sure, but let's clarify something:
- dxu is firmware for Singapore.
- xxu is international fimrware, that may cover many regions/countries.
- I personally think xxu modem is compatible with the dxu firmware. However the problem is that dxu version (gnh1) is newer than xxu version (dnc1). That may be the problem.
- So try to download newer firmware for xxu and flash.
- You can find appropriate firmware by installing Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'Firmware Browser' > enter XXU in the CSC text box and tap Go button to search.

Try to reflash again to make the modem stick.
Or extract the modem.bin + NON-HLOS.bin and flash separately, followed the instruction below:
• Switch off your device completely.
• Connect to PC and power on your phone in Download Mode (Volume Down + Home + Power).
• Start Odin v3.09 (be sure it recognised your phone and show ID:COM port number).
• Untick Auto Reboot.
• Flash MODEM.BIN (CP slot - unzip it first).
• Reboot once again into Download Mode using Vol Down + Home + Power.
• Tick Auto Reboot and flash NON-HLOS.BIN.
• If this doesn't work, try repeating the flash process again while rebooting manually and with Auto Reboot option turned off.
If you have trouble getting the Modem to stick, install Triangle Away (by Chainfire) and follow the directions to reset your counter (even if it says zero), then boot into Download Mode, and re-flash them with Odin and they should stick.

Got a question, doesn't flashing the firmware automatically flashes the modem into the phone as well?
I have tried the suggested method, but the modem just refused to stay in the phone. Now my phone can't receive any signal and reboots randomly...:crying:

Typically yes, the modem is flashed together with the firmware. But sometimes it does not stick.
Did you follow exactly all steps and retry many times as suggested in the instruction?

I just reflashed my firmware. The modem is still missing...previously i tried the method about 5 times but still can't get it installed.
I'm gonna try reflashing once again before rooting.
Here's are the steps I took:
- Boot into recovery and wipe data/ cache
- Reboot in download mode
- Open Odin 3.09
- Uncheck auto reboot
- Connect phone to Odin, after which a blue "0:[COM4]" icon shows up
- Go to AP, select my firmware (which is about 2GB), wait for Odin to load
- After loading, press start to flash.
- After flashing completed, disconnect phone from Odin and reboot manually by pressing the lock button

Did you power it off completely and boot into download mode with the key combination (Vol Down + Home + Power)?
And did you use Triangle Away to reset the counter? as per instruction.
Ok. I'm officially in deep ****...
Good news is that I finally know why I can't flash modems into my phone. Bad news is because my IMEI number is screwed, and I did not make a back up of it.
Think I will be opening another thread for this issue... Thank you very much for your help all along vndnguyen.

Need EFS/IMEI help - I have backup but still not working

The Story
Don't even know where to start. Okay so I have a SM-935W8 (Canadian Version) and it was working perfectly fine running Project Dream rom the S8 one. I decided to flash angelo's Pixel rom for S7 Edge and for some reason when it booted, the network had a cancel sign meaning no network. Once I finished the initial setup, calling, messaging , and data weren't working. Luckily I have a backup for EFS and RADIO in tar, img. and tar.gz formats. So I downloaded the Partitions Backup app and restored the EFS and Radio files, it said successfully restored. I rebooted my device and the issue was still there, no network. So then I installed the stock ROGERS (Provider) rom from SAM MOBILE and it came up with some DRK error and my phone would not boot. So then I quickly used ODIN to flash twrp and then flash Superman Rom (Love it) and use dm-verity bypass.zip to get past the drk error. Then I attempted many other things but to no avail such as flashing the EFS tar through ODIN which caused a "Software Error" and phone to be stuck on a light blue software error screen so I had to use smart switch to FULLY restore the phone back to booting up, then once again I flashed twrp and Superman rom with dm-verity so I atleast have root and a decent rom to work from.
The Problem and What I Have at Disposal
So essentially, I currently have a new section in settings under Connections called "SIM card manager" for managing sim cards even tho I only have 1 slot, it shows that the SIM is ROGERS and LTE/3G/2G in there, but it can't connect to a network and keeps saying Not Registered on a Network. Also, there are 2 IMEI's since my phone thinks theres 2 SIM slots but I really only have 1 slot. BUT HERE IS THE MAIN ISSUE, THE ROOT OF ALL PROBLEMS, the IMEI is reading as "000000000000000" and the IMEISV is "01". Hence im getting Not Registered on a Network. No secret codes such as *#06# are working, keeps giving the Not Registered on a Network error.
I have the EFS and RADIO backups in img, tar, and tar.gz formats as well as screenshots of all my MAC and Bluetooth addresses, IMEI and Serial #'s and all that information. So essentially I feel fully ready to solve the problem but everything I try keeps failing. My EFS restoration says successful in the APP but upon reboot, theres no change. Flashing the EFS through ODIN messes up phone harder. When I use EFS Professional Tool, where do I place the partitions so they show up in the tool?
I used this post to try to fix it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-fix-check-drk-imei-issues-t3379516
BUT when I'm flashing the combination through ODIN in AP, it goes to NAND write or whatever and gets stuck, sometimes it gets stuck on Analyzing files or something. I tried every single ODIN version. I really could use some expertise on this issue. A step by step written tutorial, some method anything!!!! Help on this post or even teamviewer or skype for live help would be appreciated. Please help and I'm willing to compensate for successfully helping me fix my issue..
Did you ever sort this out? I'm in a similar situation, except that it does occasionally show my IMEI but also 'baseband unknown'. But still no network access.
i hope i dont risk a warning, but you can use xposed and with root you can change your imei and baseband info.

Thanks, I've done so much to this phone now...
I did try xposed and have tried a different IMEI, it seems like it's a modem issue but there doesn't seem to be a firmware solution - I have tried so many stock roms(All the way back to the first Marshmallow and a bunch in between) and different custom roms too but in the end the error is always there: Not registered to Network.
I saw somewhere in my troubleshooting that some kind of cert needs to be patched because the phone did an update on a modified rom without the OEM unlock being on and then the EFS data was messed up or something like that (all of the research and troubleshooting is starting to blur). It seems like that fix isn't doable without a rather expensive piece of hardware (expensive if your just fixing your one phone I guess) and there isn't any firmware-only fix that can accomplish this patch so I'm stuck again.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I have an S7 (SM-G930W8). I only tried this thread because the issue was identical to mine and I couldn't find anything similar referencing the S7 specifically.
For anyone coming across this thread in the future, although mine was an S7 I think the issue would apply to both. I ended up ordering a z3x in order to use the patch certificate. But it wasn't that easy; the firmware had to be downgraded to marshmallow first which wouldn't work in Odin until I tried just flashing the BL and CP files first, then rebooting and flashing the AP and CSC files separately. In fact, the AP file froze the first time but passed on the second attempt. After that, everything was downgraded to android 6 and then the patch certificate option worked and my s7 connects to the network again.
I'm having a similar problem with my sm-g935w8 Rodgers but has been unlocked. A couple days ago i looked at my phone and it was showing a no signal symbol and I look for my phones information and it showed unknown in all categories, the imei say unknown, and it's not reading the sim. Help me

This one for advanced users who know what they are doing.. it isn't specifically for s7 series but has a universal approach to understand concepts.. don't use the provided drk (prov data) and csc restoring files, they aren't for s7 edge.
Always backup efs and all radio/serial related info firstly after rooting. Good luck

Samsung Pay on non-rooted S8+ not working

Hey guys,
I just got a used S8+. Upon booting up it was a clean factory reset. I went forward with the setup.
When i open up Samsung Pay i get the "samsung pay access to samsung pay has been denied...." msg.
This phone is not rooted, i have downloaded a root check and comes back as false.
The person who had the phone never rooted the phone.
And i also get this notification " Security Notice, unauthorized actions have been detected..."
Anyone know what could be wrong with it?
go into download mode, and see there if knox has been tripped. also can you use secure folder?
I had a similiar issue (KNOX not tripped). Just downloaded stock Odin ROM, flashed it and everything worked again.
This is what i get when in download mode?
Ill test Secure Folder now...brb
This is what i get when secure folder is launched.
Secure folder cannot be set up because unauthorized software was installed on the device.

Yes, it is alway best to flash all files, but if you don't mind loosing your data, you can flash CSC_* package in place of CSC, to also repartition your phone and start fresh. But if you want to keep your data, you can flash the HOME_CSC_* package instead.
Just tried it with all the files and i get this.
I am so lost i am about to pull my hair out...

Note 4 N910C Emergency Call only (Not Registered to Network) IMEICERT:PASS (IMEI Ok )

Greetings Folks
I have a N910C and as mentioned in title recently I got stuck in to this issue
How it happened
I had CF-Rooted my phone and Odin flashed TWRP for custom ROMS so I tried a few and was not getting the perfomance thought SimplROM would do it for me in order to install that ROM it said in instructions to install latest Modem and Bootloader
So i tried downloading the ones given in v6C BL was downloaded but CP kept on giving me errors getting stuck at 7% on mega so being stupid I downloaded DPCB(MODEM) While ROM was offering DPK4
So everything went fine until after boot I realized am facing Not Registered to Network
Since I had experienced this before on other phone I went ASAP in dialer to check my IMEI & SN both are still intact
I knew about EFS unfortunately I backed it up on Phone Storage which was wiped for ROM and I forgot (So dont have EFS Backup )
I do recall years ago back when I had S3 I experienced this and sometimes flashing different firmware(CSC ,Modem) fixed it
What I have tried so far
I have already tried several stock ROMs most of em had DPI1 Baseband except 2 other ROMS no luck
tried combination file method too (the one that helps downgrade to kitkat i believe ) no luck
Tried XEO repair Firmware no luck
any suggestions ??
and on that contrary now that I am not on stock is there any way to find out which CSC and Stock ROM this phone originally was one or came with with IMEI or Serial I believe ?
Thanks in Advance
Anyone??
under the battery there's the serial number
install on your pc samsung smart switch program
run it with option of emergency software recovery - device initialisation
input the model of your phone
input the serial number
start
have patience and a good connection
your phone will (eventually) get the latest official firmware
https://www.blogtechtips.com/2017/06/24/easily-restore-samsung-device-firmware-with-smart-switch/
at least you'll have a working phone with stock rom
from here on you can try again and get informed better on what to do
good luck

Im guessing its a motherboard problem? Isnt it @w41ru5?

I don't know. Usually it's a modem issue when not recognizing the sim.
If it's a 910F snapdragon it might be the infamous eMMC issue.
If you have an EFS backup try to restore it from recovery TWRP.
Assuming its modem problem, its related to motherboard i guess, right?
Finally got the phone working, only to discovered that SIM not working. Really wasting my time and hype!
Plus, its hard to search for n910c replacement board here.

The firmware, not the physical one.
Did you try to flash the 4 files repair firmware?
This is an example, I don't know what phone you have
https://firmware.gem-flash.com/index.php?a=downloads&b=folder&id=7081
Did you try the SmartSwitch pc program?
"...4 file repair..."- what? Ive google it until im almost run out of data here and you have a possible solution? You must be active in note4 forum.
One thing i noticed that, the IMEI and Serial Number are different from the sticker included.
I will try it, but not immediately; waiting for thurday-friday for data renewal.
My phone is n910c
EDIT : just checked the page you gave. I have few question;
What should i do with the files? What are the step? What are the program needed?
Is it related to SmartSwitch as you mention; need to use it?
Thanks!

1. It's good you still have the IMEI. Not so important if they're different from the sticker. Where did you buy the phone from?
2. So if you go to check the 4 files repair, you need to search on that site the files for a 910C.
3. Did the phone worked on your country provider? If yes, maybe you need to search for the 4files corresponding to your region code.
4. These 4files have to be flashed with Odin
https://zfirmware.com/download-samsung-repair-firmwares/
5. SmartSwitch is an alternative to get the latest firmware for your phone according with the model and serial number.
https://www.sammobile.com/forum/threads/29914-SmartSwitch-Install-amp-update-or-replace-firmware
the "firmware.gem" are useless. the error says i need another package (i assume a quota) to download the needed files.
im currently testing "zfirmware", but have a doubt since it only give 1 type file (which country is it i dunno). but yeah, since my phone like that, it wouldnt hurt to try
EDIT : yep, nothing changed. the device not even bricked.

If something does not work, why do you give up so easy?
http://www.mediafire.com/file/a2fdo0xm9nat5jt/N910CXXS2DPJ3_N910CZTO2DPE2_ZTO.zip - this is marshmallow
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087001472 - this is for lolipop
Put the phone in download mode, open Odin and try.
And try the smartswitch also.

I tried files from LP and MM. It didnt work. And also smartswitch.
I was hoping that it will brick the phone (if i ever missed a step or incorrect file) but it didnt.
Might as well try looking for replacement board (or even a refurbished note4).
Thanks though for the suggestion @w41ru5!
Greetings again folks reading your replies above I have been trying almost every fix there is out there
First of all about Emergency Calls Only/Not Registered on Network
It can be due to several causes its can be Hardware ie faulty modem
it can be bad network coverage
it can be bad simcard
it can be SW with EFS problems or maybe even on rare occasion a modem file that you flashed
EFS can be either bad IMEI with CERT : FAIL or Just Network with IMEI and SN intact
just dial *#0011*# and see if you have CERT : PASS ( also someone with good IMEI/CERT and working network can share screenshot so i can compare whats wrong)
I am certain mine is EFS related because it happened after flashing modem DPCB modem via ODIN (I had TWRP EFS backup but the blunder I made was backing it up on phone storage and being careless forgot it was there and was wiped for custom ROM flashing process)
So far what I have tried
Combination File Method (and even downgrade to KK 4.4.4 )
Repair Firmware that include AP,BL,CP,CSC and even PIT
Kies 3 or Older Smart Switch says (Device doesn't support initialization ) since initialization feature was removed by Samsung on newer Smartswitch(since it was being used for wrong reasons? read somewhere)
Several different firmware's
OTA update
My IMEI CERT says PASS if only we had a network patch like Ariza Patch (for Galaxy S3) for Note 4 then we would be in luck so far at this point I dont think flashing ROM's would even help with bad EFS our only luck is Box e.g Z3x or Octo dont know if we are allowed to talk about those here (ill edit post if not)
these box applications have Network Patch for most Samsung models but I don't see one for N910C in most versions
for those with bad IMEI they can try writing good cert or efs on note 4 since they have already lost it I am sitting on it because my EFS is good on that part and for some reason box app isnt allowing me to back up my CERT if I am able to back up current cert then ill give those a try but I would prefer current IMEI since in my country IMEI should be verified to use the phone or you have to pay tax
I know its Bad EFS for sure because using Box application I chose reset EFS(after backing up current faulty EFS with good IMEI) upon reboot phone's imei was changed with no SN network came back for few seconds then gone again ,this happened to many users that have tried resetting EFS so I restored my original EFS
if anyone here with N910C and root can give me EFS folder I can corelate if any file required for network is missing since i have good IMEI
Cheers!

SM-J730G(M): No idea what I did to the OS

Hey! Newbie here in need of some help... (sorry for the poor formatting)
So about two years ago i got a J7 Pro (box says SM-J730G/DS, which is important for later) from my carrier (IUS) (MX), and I tried to root it. Apparently it didn't go well or something, I honestly have no recollection, and then because of external forces I had to change to iPhone.
The only thing I remeber before I stopped using it is that the settings app was kinda messed up (eg. there were two "Battery" settings, there was a new option called "Service provider" which had the options "KT twophone service", which apparently is Korean, and "My Wi-Fi home settings", etc.) Also, I got a "Processing failed" error message when wanting to check for updates.
Now yesterday I decided to unearth it again and of couse everything was the same, so I investigated how to return to stock firmware. The Smart Switch option isn't possible anymore; the only viable way (atm) for me is via Odin. The phone also somehow does not boot into recovery mode by Volume Down + Power.
I downloaded the firmware, and this is where everything gets messy. It seems the firmware I had flashed previously was SM-J730GM, which is still the only one I can find for my carrier and region. It is the firmware too that I flashed today (J730GMUBU2AQI3 and J730GMUBU2AQF3) through Odin, however I was not able to flash the BL, CP and CSC, because I would get a myriad of errors (one run I would get "repartition operation failed", on another, "cm.bin fail", or fail on the "set .pit file", and so on).
Remember when I said the box info was important? Yeah, the app Phone Info *Samsung* says both the bootloader and the broadband version are J730GUBU1AQF3, not J730GMUBU2AQF3. However, Sammobile says that for my region/carrier (MX/IUS), it is GM, not G. The back of my phone, however, says J730G/DS
I am at a loss. I read that one possibility is to use the Re-partition and NAND Erase options in Odin, but since I don't know whether my phone is J730G or J730GM, and I don't have a way to backup my EFS folder, I don't feel like doing that.
Could someone please explain to me what I can do to fix this?

1. Try heimdall instead of odin
2. Try with pc, adb fastboot wipe commands

Okay so,
1. What is the current state of your phone(is it bricked or working)?
2. What version of Android do you have( 7.0 Nougat ) or ?
If your phone is NOT bricked, I recommend first to go to developer settings and do OEM unlock
(you can enable developer settings by tapping the field Build Number fast multiple times in About phone information)
then, you can download stock firmware for J730G( not J730GM) and it doesn't have to be from your carrier or country.
After that, you can either use your stock rom or flash recovery and then flash custom ROM.
