Phone slowing down - Nokia 6 Questions & Answers

I bought a Nokia 6 nearly a month ago(TA-1003) and was really happy with it as it was running pretty smoothly. Now the phone has started showing problems. Apps like messenger lag (phone comes to a crawling pace when a messenger chat bubble shows) and it gives a 1-2 second delay when I take a picture on Snapchat. Also on snapchat, when I make a video, theres a near 3 second delay along with the video stuttering.
I don't know if this is a purely hardware problem, but whenever I plug in new earphones, they work fine for a while, then only one earpiece works unless I pull the cable in a certain position, eventually leading to the earphones not working. The same earphones however, work perfectly fine on any other device

As for the slowness, that could be more of a personal mileage, since I have been using mine for well over a month and things are still fluid.
But about the earphones, you may need to consult customer care to make sure that your device is not defective.
If and only if you're adventurous, it could also be caused by disturbances in the jack, i.e. dusts and particles. Sadly I forgot the method to clean it (while writing this reply), but it has something to do with graphite dusts. The process would, of course, involve having the graphite dusts to go into your jack. This paragraph is purely an "fyi", i personally wouldn't have the balls to do this due to OCD-like behaviour

My set doesn't have a warranty so customer care isn't an option. However I could try checking the jack for lint and dust

8525 Dead? NO! Wait yes?

Okay here's my fun little scenario that I searched for and hadn't come across anyone with the same scenario. Phone was working fine one day and next it would only display a white screen, thought something went wrong with the software. Tried a reset, tried a hard reset, tried a flash started getting some screen showing and then distorting and whiteing out also on startup would get crackled sound. Tried a few more resets and so on. Removed the battery for 3 seconds-20mins-8plus hours still having a problem. Distortion gets worse when pushing the battery in the back it seems and will eventually just go to white screen. Now I had bought a new battery recently and just for kicks threw it in, seemed to eliminate my problems. Except now as I just for kicks again am charging my old battery in the cradle along with the phone and the new battery it seems to be having similar issue although it hasn't been nearly as bad as before. Now I just took the "bad" battery off the charger and it seems to be just fine in the cradle at this moment, nevermind it's flickering again. Is more poor little Hermes on it's death bed, please tell me no. I paid $200 on it being used from a company who only warranties it for 14 days, I am almost at 30 now. I bought an warranty with it being used and all however they wont help me untill I reach 60 days I guess so I may be out of luck for 30 days before I might get it fixed or my money back. Sucks too because I switched to the $40 data plan with AT&T about 5 days ago and now I guess will be paying for something I can't really use. Okay it seems as though with random pressure on the back seems to cause it. I'm leaning towards some sort of a battery contact issue perhaps? What should I do to clean/fix the contacts?
For those that wonder why I just seemed to rant about my broken phone and seemingly figured out the problem on my own and are wondering why I am still posting all of it the answer is simple: To benefit someone else who may be experienceing the same problem or who may read it and have the problem down the road they will know what they should do. That and it's late and I'm tired
the screen issue is known to be caused by the D-pad connector coming undone
Okay I had run into that as a possibility however would that affect the sound to make it crackle? Also in experimenting some more this morning with the "old" battery in place it seems to be much much more sensitive to pressure, almost to the point of holding it in the palm of your hand causes the screen to go nutty and wash out to white screen and come back etc.. However with the new battery in its much more stable and I need to apply more pressure in order for it to reproduce these symptoms. I know you've been a member for longer than me and you also work for AT&T however my gut feeling is something else may be the culprit here. I tried recording a video using my backup phone last night except I couldn't seem to get it uploaded to show what the screen is doing. Oh well I really want use of the phone but I also don't want to void the warranty, namely my extra warranty which I can't file a claim for the next month.

Plantronics Voyager 855 Stereo BT

I have to rave on this stereo BT head set. I have been tying to find one that I like for quite some time really exercising the 30 day return policies. I wanted somthing that had the best of both worlds, regular mono ear piece and an atachable ear bud for the stereo and this one has deffinatly got it right. Best sound yet, best fit and good looking. I was very impresed I think this one is a keeper, oh one down fall the price but still under $120.
I have one since december. It is (was) great, but...
The concept is great. The size too. The sound is OK to good with both earplugs. Problems are:
- the connection of the second earplug with the main one (the one with the battery) is very, very sensitive. After two months of use, it became so loose that I lost contact and couldn't use the stereo anymore. They should have made it like a "screw" plug or even an small USB plug, or RCA plug. The way it is, two small metal plates on the setero plug that have to "touch" another two small metal plates in the main plug is too sensitive and unreliable for real usage.
- two weeks ago, the place where you connected the stereo plug and which now I was using to plug the ear hook broke...
- Now I'm using it just with the earbud... only six months.
Again, great concept, and bad implemantation. I even thought about buying another one and use it more gently, but I guess that's unrealistic. I believe I should be able to put the headphone in my pocket or bag without worring too much.
duplicate, sorry.

I found and bought mine (Voyager 855) after searching on the internet...plain white box, plenty of replacement pieces, for onlyl.... ready for this....
$46.00.
The only issue I ever had was making sure it was connected when I needed it, installing A2DPToggle solved that issue, and all is now right with the world.
MBN
PS: got mine at cellphoneshop.net/855.html and have had several coworkers order from them and all has worked out well. Unfortunately, they've been out of stock for about a month now

How did A2DPToggle solve what? Mine stays connected most of the time.
SouthSideSvz,
before I installed the toggle, for unknown reasons the connection would drop and I found reconnecting a pain....
A caveat, though, this was happening when I first got the phone and the earpiece....haven't had any problems since then. But I have heard that the BT can drain the battery, so with the toggle I can shut down BT on the phone side too.
How much of it is a crutch, who knows... but I like it!

I just bought this same headset, and have also experienced it dropping connection and being hard to get reconnected. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. At this point, do you think the toggle app is actually helping the problem?
I'm wondering if it's not just the simple fact that you turn bluetooth off and on, so it sort of resets itself, rather than anything this program does differently. However, I'm more than willing to give it a try!
I have one since about 6 months ago. A friend of mine that works at Plantronics Mexico gave it to me as a present and to test it out.
Honestly it's been a great product, it even survived a trip to the washer machine and it's still ticking!
The only problem I see with this particular set is that the connector on the loop is really flimsy (I'm on my second loop) so you'd better be careful and never let it plugged in while you store it on your pants or backpack, it breaks really easy (maybe it's just because my unit it's a pre-production set) but be careful nevertheless.
The sound is really bassy and loud for such small speakers it has very nice sound range.
The battery lasts for a few days of moderate use on stereo and a few weeks moderate use on mono.
One thing I like about it (which many will find disturbing) is that it isolates all sound from the exterior, so be careful while driving or things like that.
I give a 8.5/10 to this product.
I liked mine as much as you did, but then it didn't last long enough as I explained above.
I do believe they can change the implementation and keep all its good qualities that are many (let's be honest, there is not one other set that is as discreet/small and less cumbersome than this). I would know how to do it, so they just have to be willing to do so, I guess.
Perhaps you can pass my ideas to your friend. I would share them for free...

I will pass the info to my friend ASAP. However as far as I know, the Bluetooth Division was recently moved to China...
I remember my pal told me beforehand that this particular model has some (undisclosed) issues (well he mentioned battery not lasting long enough). Same with a newer mono model called Diamond or something like that.
Hey, these are just user's ideas. I'm not talking about engineering stuff.
They seem to be simple things (though you never know) like:
- connection of the stereo earbud: the way it is, it is just two metal plates touching each other. Very easy for things to get loose and lose contact. Happened with me. They either should use a RCA type plug or USB type plug (most likely).
- Also the stereo connection is also used to help support the headset on our ears. Fact is the headset weight is put on...THE STEREO CONTACTS, helping them get loose. So, Ear hook should be separated from connection to relieve it from weight stress.
- they could position the stereo connection where presently is the charger, and perhaps (if possible) make the connection be dual function like the Kaiser, where you can use the mini-USB both to charge and to connect headphone.
My two cents. Seems feasible.
Got my voyager 855 and it's sounds muffled on one earbud (the one with buttons). Using Tilt with one of the hybrid Dutty roms. The one you piggyback to main unit sounds much louder and very clear. Tested also without putting them in ear and with eargels off, switched ears. Anything I can try before requesting a replacement?
Thanks!

Physically damaged phone

I got my Wing second hand from my father. It was in a car accident at one point and pretty much submerged in mud. Anyways, it was taken to a phone place at one point and they replaced the lcd I think, and then shortly after, the phone magically experiences banding issues in the graphics vertically. obviously the pattern changes to the other direction when i flip it open.
more over, the keyboard doesnt seem to be working 100% either. In fact, most of the keys don't function at all. I have tried pulling the ribbon cables for both and putting them back in, and I can see nothing physically wrong with either cable.
Any further troubleshooting assistance would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I will get out my camera and collect as much data as I can about it in case that helps.
P.P.S. After I sleep that is. I have been fiddling with the thing all night. BTW, There doesn't happen to be any sort of adapter or something to hook real headphones to a T-Mobile Wing is there? One of its primary functions is as an mp3 player (but its really only a ghetto ghettoblaster at the moment, with only speakerphone) and the headphone/mic combo that came with it for its lame usb port don't have the greatest audio quality compared to what im used to.
Well I finally got some time to take the pictures, and I just have to get them off the camera and then ill post what I have.. (I figured I might as well take it apart while I was at it.)

Microphone stopped working

Anyone else had this problem yet? Had mine since Oct. 4th
I didn't try to do a data wipe. Just took it to T-mobile for a replacement. Didn't want it to start working again because I had got a scratch on my phone anyways and it was a good opportunity to get a replacement.
Me too. When I use my headphone, people on the other line can't hear me. This happen more than once. I try to do a hard reset but it still don't work.... anyone have any solution.

My issue was the microphone on the phone. Did you not buy from T-mobile or other authorized outlet? Your phone should be within warranty.
Another thing to try would be a Data wipe/factory reset.
Another thing I noticed is that when I charge my phone there is an LED in the earpiece. My last G2's LED must have been defective.
Hi, what happen if you buy the phone from craiglist, how can I return ?

Contact HTC about warranty service I guess. I don't understand why someone would sell the phone on craigslist when it is within the 14 day return policy for tmobile where you can get a full refund unless maybe it was stolen.
You can contact HTC here: http://www.htc.com/europe/CA_Hotline.aspx?region=NorthAmerica
I'm just speculating here, but it's based on past experience with flexible connectors like the one used to bridge the display portion to the body. I'm surprised to see the possible defect occurring so early in life of this handset, but the fact that the ribbon is forced to bend back 180 with a radius of less than 1mm when the display is open puts a LOT of stress on the thin conductors of the ribbon. The problem might have been precluded by HTC using carbon traces rather than typical metallic copper on this critical component. See for yourself by looking at your phone edgewise next time you flip it open. If we're lucky and enough handsets fail like this HTC MIGHT do something of a product recall. Incidentally, has anyone with a dead mic also experienced random screen garbage or erratic touch response? Again I point to the same design flaw.
Here's to hoping I'm dead wrong guys!
This problem just happened to me. With no apparent reason, the internal speaker stopped working. People can hear me, but I canĀ“t hear anything.
Funny thing tho, if I activate the external speaker, it works. The problem is the internal speaker only.
Is it a known problem like the shoddy usb connector on some kaisers ?

dont say anything to tmobile about where you bought it from. there is a one year warranty the original date of purchase. at least there was with the motorola cliq that i got off craigslist. returned it for a fab'd one without scratches gonna do it one more time right before the year is up haha
My G2's mic has also stopped working, been looking around different websites for parts, but I can't seem to find it, u guys know anyone?
If I use it with the headphones/mic, it works fine, people hear me and all. If not, people can't hear me.
FWIW, I had this exact problem shortly before Christmas. the mic started by cutting out sometimes, then failing altogether. Using an external mic worked fine so it wasn't software, just the physical connection to the built in mic. I'm pretty sure that sivalley is right in his speculation that the issue is the flexible ribbon connector.
Fortunately for me my phone was under warranty and HTC arranged to pick it up etc.
Weirdly the day before they were due to pick it up, the whole screen stopped working. I could power up and feel the vibration etc, but the screen never came on. Again I think the common factor was the flexible ribbon.
When HTC repaired it it came with a long list of things they'd replaced to get it working again, so it may not be as simple as just replacing a ribbon connector.
I have no idea whether it's possible to source the parts, but it might be worth finding out how much HTC would charge to fix it if it's not under warranty (could still be a good deal)

Need help troubleshooting cause of screen "dead spots"

My wife has an original T-Mobile MyTouch 3G -- the one with IIRC a 32b cpu, not that it matters for this (also no headphone jack, basically it's an HTC Dream with extra RAM).
She's on the stock FroYo OTA, no root, no custom anything. No updates have been pushed recently.
Today it started acting weird. She called me, and couldn't hear me on her phone. No biggie, I assumed she couldn't hear because of background noise. However, I found later that *I* couldn't hear *her* because she sounded muffled, like she was mumbling everything (and the background noise was muffled too -- like something was merely covering the mic hole).
We thought little of it, until back at the hotel room, when the phone no longer registered touch in certain areas.
I used a paint app to troubleshoot, and found several "dead" or "null" zones on the screen, most along the rightmost and bottommost edges.
I also noticed with the paint app that a diagonal 45-degree line was registered more like a zigzag of lines, either 20 and 70 degrees or 30 and 60 or something in that area. Each zigzag had the same angles as the others.
We haven't found any kind of calibration app or advice online.
It was working fine until today.
I recommended she try a factory data reset, to rule out software, since her apps and settings are in the cloud with Google, and if that doesn't work, it's most likely a hardware issue. However, I came here hoping someone might have some insight. I suspect the work she was doing today (photographing a couple at Disney World Orlando) had her perspiring quite a bit, and where she usually keeps her phone, it may have gotten some of that. Yet our 2-year-old daughter once upon a time took to teething on the phone, so it's seen its share of slobbers if nothing else. I'm wondering if the higher salt content in the sweat had any effect, maybe bridging some SMD IC's pins, or bridging traces, or something like that.
Assuming salts are the problem, can isopropyl alcohol be used to clean it out, or does it have to be denatured alcohol?
Thanks,
CJ
[SOLVED]
It was sweat. Phone works fine after airing out for a day or so.
