Is there a way to turn off light on capacitive keys and enable on screen navigation? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I know it was possible on other xiaomi phones, but is it possible with Google's software?
Thanx.

If your phone already rooted you can edit build.prop to enable on screen navigation

On Google rom too, not only miui?
Good news, thanx. I don't have a phone, but I plan to buy it if that's possible .

you missed the question.
yes we can edit the build.prop to activate the navigation bar, but not everyone wants that black bar.
we just simply want to turn the capacitive button lights.
hope some day we figure it out :good:

Any news? It's the only point that stops me to buy this phone (I hate soft touch buttons, in this way they will be invisible).

We can enable the software keys but how to disable capacitive touch buttons on mi a1, i have already edited the generic keyboard file added # to comment those buttons but that doesnt work for this phone.. anyone here with the solution?

You can achieve it using GravityBox ( xposed module ). In GravityBox under 'Display Tweaks' click on 'Button backlight Modes' and select 'Disable button backlight'. You can even enable transparent navigation bar under 'Navigation bar' setting.

Slight side question but related... Is there any way to get the key backlights to stay on longer? (Without root)
I came from a Sony which were the other way around so would like to see them to learn the new order!

[Q] Making a G2 more Nexus like..how?

I currently have a Galaxy Nexus which I like outside of the awful battery life, it's just old and just outclassed. I have finally settled on the G2 but there are a few things I need to know I can change before hand.
The on-screen buttons, the fact that LG chose to use a menu button is regressive and dumb. I want the standard AOSP "back,home,multitask;contextual3-dot" and to make sure the rest of the phone realizes that it needs to use the contextual 3 dot.
Proper Roboto font
Those are the biggies, everything else I know I can change or I can deal with. Has anyone figured these out?

I would love to switch to a contextual 3-bot menu system as well. Would make using PIE a lot easier. Is the contextual 3-dot a system wide option somewhere? I looked through the build.prop and didn't see anything standout, but I really don't know exactly what I am looking for either.
There are 6 different configurations to use for the on screen buttons, but there isn't a dedicated recent button. You can, however, longpress home for recents. The menu/three dot issue I don't believe there is a solution yet. There is also a font changer with 6 or 8 fonts to choose from, including Roboto.
Thank you Devs. From my LG G2.

Looks like you can edit the build.prop and add qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the bottom to enable the system wide context aware 3 dot menu. Haven't got to verify yet. Anyone else try it?

I don't want to hold down the home button and wait... as for the font, apparently LG tweaked it slightly.
Also: Thanks Brian.. hopefully someone confirms this.

And before you try it, it isn't default.prop either (reverts back to the original version upon boot)
In the Verizon development section someone just posted a mod to do this. Only tested on Verizon right now.

Understand. I actually like this setup better than Nexus. That's what I love about android. Surely AOSP will be here sometime
ZIP is up in the Verizon Dev section. You can just activate the menu buttons while changing nothing else.

It covers the bottom part of the screen so it's pretty useless for replicating a standard navbar.

So there's no solution for AOSP on screen buttons that don't hide themselves and contextual overflow?

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, it still does not work. If I try to double click Home button I still get Recent Apps List. I also tried all the Nova Launcher options for shortcuts as well.
What I was hoping to do was use a Gesture Launcher , like Nova Launcher (or others like LMT) and be bale to use a gesture to open up Omniswitch drawer .....

Looking in this link: https://github.com/omnirom/android_frameworks_base/commit/13d9f74a72136786a8ddcf3fd02bf07ab2a02073 we can see how ominirom system call ominiswitch overlay. Thinking that I did a app that call the overlay and you can use in a custom gesture of your launcher.
If can help improve this alternite, help me on github: https://github.com/augustoicaro/Toggle-OmniSwitch
Note: Its only work if you really use omniswitch app(org.omnirom.omniswitch)

Just download app in my last post and overlay recent app's button function, if you can do this in your rom(button will call the app).
If not, call app as launcher's gesture or other way that you kwon to call a app.
When you call the app, the omniswicth overlay will open(like swipe blue overlay on right border).
If you can't config this, please pm me.
Please, check if packge of ominiswitch that you use is org.omnirom.ominiswitch. If not, send me via pm the packge name and I compile other app for your packge.
Cheers.

hamburger menu access big screen

Hi everyone
Strange question but...
On such a larger screen than I'm use to.
Is there a better way to reach one handed the slide out hamburger menu in most apps?
Usually I use my thumb but it's such a stretch to get to the top corner, some apps do slide out from the side but seem inconsistent. I'm finding it very difficult.
I am rooted and was wondering any app or modification I could use to help me.
Thanks you for listening!

May I ask what do you need one handed for? Apps or your browser? There are one handed mode browsers if browsers are a problem.

Okay, some roms have what you might want. Basically I recommend flashing pimps rr from androidfilehost.com. In settings go to configurations then gestures then pie control and enable it. Then with pie control there will be home, back, recent and 3 dots (...) which will be the hamburger menu in any app. You can customise stuff and this should help you out.
Thanks for your reply. Mainly want it for apps, but didn't want to flash a new rom.
If I hold the nexus 6p at the bottom of the phone, my thumbs are a real stretch to the hamburger menu or slide out.
I will take a look at what you have posted cheers man

I had a look at some apps but most just seem to be to access apps and not the hamburger icon. As far as I know you would need to flash a rom with this pie control gesture or you might not be able to do it at all.
You could give LMT a try, might have an option for what you need.

Good work mate, I second you on that LMT app. I just tried it and it is a perfect pie with the hamburger feature. Good find, well done.

I've activated LMT with a app in the pie menu, but don't see a option for hamburger in app shortcut

Don't know if any other roms have this yet, but ABC rom does.
Huawei ported their one handed mode over to AOSP(I believe this was the story).

Thanks for replys. Still trying to get this to work.
Is it possible to set the back button in a app to toggle the hamburger menu? That would be handy because instead of backing out of the app slide from left in stead.
Cheers for patience, I did use the piepointer but found it quite difficult to use sometimes.

(Q) VOLTE / LTE notification, how to remove?

Wasn't always there but have a notification up the top right by the signal bars.
Theres a not so pretty and frankly useless notification as you can see from the image..
Can't find the switch to turn it off, personally don't want to use VOLTE nor do I want to see the notification.
How can I turn this off and remove the notification.

Never used it, never needed it and never had a problem before.
Plus I don't want LTE checking for calls constantly, my guess is it'll impact battery compared to regular calls.
Personally it'll about me if it's left on, currently I've just hidden it, so if the battery SOT I'm currently testing is adequate then I may leave it
