Nokia 6 "select radio band mode - Nokia 6 Questions & Answers

I accidentally selected the United States radio band in the *#*#4636#*#* phone information menu. Since I'm not from the US this disables the cellular radio on the phone for my region.
There's no other options in the "select radio band" menu other than "united states". Online solutions mention an "auto" setting but there's no such option in that pop up menu.
I've tried a factory reset to resolve this but it didn't work. I've also tried different radio settings in that phone information activity (LTE, CDMA etc). I've tried resetting network settings in the system settings app. I've also tried reinstalling the latest OTA update (September) through recovery but it did not change the radio back.
Erasing the modem state using fastboot won't work since the device has a locked bootloader. I assume it fails for me because of a locked bootloader anyway. This was a suggested solution for others and I feel like it would work.
I think a full firmware flash would also fix it but I don't see any TA1033 firmware files anywhere and Nokia still haven't released any tools either.
What do you think?

I use the Indian version. I'd faced the same problem while doing the same *#*#4636#*#* settings. I also did all the above solutions which u mentioned. At last I had to go to Nokia service centre and told them that this happened all of a sudden and didn't disclose 4636 setting thing,as they might use it as a void of warranty issue. They simply rolled back the system to June version and the phone was back to normal. But one thing that I'm facing now is that I'm now not getting any update to the latest one. I think they might have block it or something coz I don't know much about android. I need to go to the service centre soon. If u r going to the service centre make sure that they don't block the update setting.

[Q] "Emergency calls only" after RUU downgrade, root, Cyanogen 6.1 install

Hello,
I've just rooted my Legend for the first time. To do this, I downgraded to 1.31 via RUU, then rooted using the Modaco guide.
After the RUU downgrade, I noticed that the phone said "Emergency Calls Only". Being a complete noob, I continued along with the rooting process figuring that the root flash and later mod flash might fix the problem.
After the root, I still had emergency service only. Being excited that the root worked, I went ahead and installer Rom Manager, rebooted into Clockworkmod Recovery and installed Cyanogen 6.1.
Still "emergency calls only".
I looked in Network Operators to see if my provider (Bell Canada) was visible. Sure enough, it was there. I tried to join the mobile network but the device just sits there spinning until it times out. I set the correct APN settings, but of course that didn't help - I basic GSM service doesn't work, let alone 3G.
I then found an app called Secret Settings, which gives access to a bunch of nifty hidden configuration options. I worked my way through each of the preferred network types. None of them worked.
I assume that this has something to do with the radio firmware flashed during the downgrade, although it looked like radio was also flashed during root.
So here I sit with a fancy WiFi-only device that used to be a phone. Can this be fixed? What are my options?
Please help a very technical but new-to-android-modding noob out. Thanks in advance!
Well, I seem to have fixed my own problem. Awesome!
Bell Canada HTC Legend users - if you've downgraded, rooted and are finding you have no service, or emergency only service...
Download "Secret Setting" from the market.
Tap Phone Information
Scroll down to "Set preferred network type"
Select "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)"
Exit to the home screen
In your phone's Settings menu, select Wireless and Networks
Select Mobile Networks -> Network Operators
Make sure you're connected to Bell
Reboot
Dial *#*#4636#*#* on your Phone, it does the same thing as "Secret Settings" and doesn't require you to install anything.
It's been listed a number of times on the forums. You also don't need to reboot to change to GSM/CDMA auto PRL, although you probably want to select WCDMA only.

Galaxy S - no signal

After factory data reset phone can't see GSM network and can't register. It says NO SERVICE. SIM card ok. check at another phone. What can be a problem and how to fix it?
Some info below:
fw: 2.1update1
baseband i9000xxjf5
kernel 2.6.29
build ECLAIR.XWJF7
csc i9000serjf2
p code: gt-i9000hkxbri
Have you checked your APN settings?
I can't make even phone call. APN...What to check in particular? wifi and gps are working fine. tried service mode... it says signal strength 0db.
My wifes is the same way it cant lock on a service provider after factory restore only way it works is with a custom rom cant figure it out
Contact your network and enter mobile network settings manually .
jje
flash to custom rom maybe?
it's your APN settings
just google your APN settings... i.e. i'm with Bell mobility... if I google Bell APN I will find the info I need... that data goes into settings>wireless>mobile networks>access point names
hit the menu button and add apn.... bell's examples are here http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/87145-bell-mobility-apn.html
they are carrier specific obviously
Hi All,
This happened to me before and I was as frustrated as you and when I was about to give up, I tried one last restoration, but only this time I did it correctly. After that, I restored 5 different versions of Samsung Galaxy S stock ROM back to my Samsung Galaxy S. One of these versions were Chinese, and everything was in Chinese.
Samsung Galaxy S had no signal was because the modem file was missing while you were performing the restoration.
Now, all you have to do is go to this page and follow the instructions to restore the Stock ROM back to your Samsung Galaxy S.
You can try to install a different rom just in case. I had the same problem and i tried to fix it applying different modems but that wouldnt work so i ended flashing cyanogenmod and back to another custom rom and that did the trick.
Even flashing back to the latest official rom for my country and operator.

Nexus 6p - Set GSM/UMTS Band Problem [Resolved]

Hello everyone. I'm having a problem with my network after going into the test menu (*#*#4636#*#*):crying:. I'm hoping someone can help me out.
My Phone:
I have a stock Nexus 6p not rooted.
The Problem Cause:
After going into the test menu (*#*#4636#*#*). I pressed the menu button (...) and pressed the "Set GSM/UMTS Band" button. My three options were "USA Band", "Band 6" and "Band 7", decided to select "USA Band".
The Problem effect:
Since I did that, I can't make or receive phone calls. My phone won't ring (though it "rings" for the person trying to call me and they get to my voicemail). If I try to call someone else, it hangs perpetually at "dialing".
Soulution I have try:
1-Setting the bands and switch between USA,6,7 but nothing changed.
2-Doing soft/hard factory reset but also nothing changed.
Any ideas how to fix this problem?!

Same problem
I'm having the exact same problem. I couldn't make or receive calls out of the box. When I fiddled with the test menu, I was able to at least get it to where I could place calls but I still cannot receive them. I'm not sure what I did at this point. Verizon support and Huawei support have been useless. I tried to factory reset and that did not help.

What carrier are you with? I did the same thing but I managed to get my phone working again.
why did you mess with these settings if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing? very big mistake. there some settings you should never fiddle with unless you're dead certain
best best now, imo, if the factory image doesnt fix it... unlock your bootloader and install a ROM that has an expanded set of radio bands... I know some ROMs have it, but not sure which ones.
Yes use Chroma it has more bands to choose from. I think someone needs to create a sticky not to mess with those settings.
I only messed with the settings because I was already not able to make or receive phone calls. Messing with the settings allowed me to at least call out now.

Flash the factory image. That way you know for sure you are as stock as could be. Then if the problem persists exchange the device because its faulty. You shouldn't have to mess with any settings to make calls. Other than maybe a borked APN setting.

:good::good::good::good:
Yep! Flashing the Chroma ROM did it! It's all back to normal now. Thank you scoobysnack soooooooooo much for your help!
what I did are;
1. Hard reset
2. Unlock bootloader
3. Install TWRP
4. Root
5. Install custom firmwares
6. Revert back to stock firmware
7. Install different 'radio' images
8. Install different stock firmwares
Unfortunately, none gave me a positive outcome.
Last Hope Was:
I flashed Chroma, a lightweight AOSP ROM focused on battery, performance and stability.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nex...-chroma-11-08-2015-lockscreen-navbar-t3244444...
The following link is for Chroma download and installation instruction:
http://nexus6proot.com/nexus-6p-custom-roms/chroma-rom-for-nexus-6p-android-6-0-1/2/
This custom ROM for Huawei Nexus 6P was first recommended by a scoobysnack. It works with a proper selection of bands according to your country.
On the dialer, use this codes *#*#4636#*#*
Selection for different bands would then available.

I'm glad you figured it out. However, If you tried the factory image and it didn't work, that's a problem! You should have had cellular service right out of the box and definitely after you flashed the factory image. Unless you did not actually try the factory image itself. Can you clarify. Because if that's the case you have a defective unit and it will be an issue when you need to actually restore your device some day. Also don't want people to get the idea that a factory image is not a fix for this.

Flashing the factory image does not work. I messed with my phone for 4 hours trying to get of to work again. I was originally on chroma when I screwed my bands up. That's how I knew about the other bands. I believe it only fixes international phones . I'm in the US on VZW and flashed factory image and had to select band 6. So depending on where you are depends on what method you have to use to correct the problem. And yes a sticky and FAQ should be made as a lot of people seen to have this problem.

The images work on either variant. It confuses me why a factory image would not fix it but I'm sure there is a reason. Its new to me though. What's weird is I am on Verizon in the US as well. Works right out of the box for me and any issues that I have come across have been fixed by a factory image. I wonder if people having problems on Verizon are having issues due to network and sim card provisioning issues and by switching bands you are fixing it but you are not on the normal bands maybe. I know some people on Verizon had to call and tell them to activate LTE on their line even though they were supposed to be getting it. And that fixed the no service.

I guess the reason why a factory image did not fix the problem is because my phone version is US not International. And I am now not from US, originally from Middle East. So there is no compatibility between US and the international bands. The only choices I had from the Bands are USA Band, 6 and 7. I am guessing that the International version has more options and compatible with variant bands.
guys. try to install chroma rom , it has several different bands. just to get it working . then return back to stock if you want i had the same issue and i had data working and sms without calls until a guy helped me ( im very grateful for him ). i hope it works. please let me know
@scoobysnack .. man, I came to help but you were faster haha
I used Chroma ROM it gives you proper selection of bands according to your country.
Similar problem
I have the same issue and my carrier is Airtel - from India. Will Chroma work with this?

Axon 7 Mini not working oversees

Hello, hoping someone can help out, I bought a AXON 7 mini hoping to use it in Iraq, but it does not seem to want to register on any network outside the USA. In the USA I was using a Tracfone T-Mobile SIM and the phone worked great. As I traveled across Europe the phone would not connect to any networks (Germany and Turkey), I figured it was just the SIM not allowing roaming. When I got to Iraq I purchased a Korek SIM and still no dice. I phone sees two networks but will not show any service. I have tried SIM cards from other phones with active service and still nothing. I have even tried a SIM card from ASIACELL and still no dice, it sees the providers but will not show service on the network. When I click "automatically select network" the phone response "registered on network" but still no service. I have tried the usual reset all the way down to a factory reset.

Flashing EU ROM
Could I safely flash the EU Firmware located here, https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7-mini/development/firmware-stock-firmware-t3696538 safely to my device. From what I have seen this may fix the problem.
Thanks, Jeff

Phone now seems to be fully functional with aid of a lot of reading an testing. I can also replicate the issue consistently. The original issue seems that the pervious owner, or ZTE set the operating band to "United States." Once this has happened the seems to be locked to USA networks, even though it still sees the other networks. Using *#*#4636#*#* method, you can try to change the band, but only 2 options are there "800 cellular" and "United States," I tried to change to 800 but get the response "unsuccessful." So for the fix!
Thanks to all the hard work here, I was able to install the boot loader unlock update for my phone found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7-mini/development/unlock-official-bootloader-unlock-t3690496
I then proceeded to install TWRP, backed up the entire system, and then installed Linage. Then used *#*#4636#*#* and the band now had a third option of "Automatic," selected that and bingo, service in Iraq. Recovered the phone with the backup and the fix stuck. Of point in Lineage there is five options in the band selection, 2 options are duplicates (USA and Auto), I assume for each SIM, and you have to select both autos otherwise only one SIM will work.
This probably could have been fixed with a ROOT application that allows you to enable additional bands, but I was never successful in ROOTing my phone.

Problem with SIM Card

Hi guys!
I'm from Venezuela, I recently acquired a Nexus 6p (h1511), so yes, I'm a noob. When the cell phone arrived in Venezuela, I connected it to the Wi-Fi network without placing a SIM card, and there was an update notification, I executed it, anyway it already came with Oreo 8.1, the update was December, the one that had It was November. After updating the SIM of the operator Movistar, recognizes it since it says "Without service - Movistar", when trying to call it shows the error "Mobile network not available", when trying to do a network search, it gives error, sometimes to one side of the signal bar, appears an R (Roaming I guess) ... I've been doing a lot of research, believe me I would not be creating this post if I was not so desperate, I have many doubts
I took it to a technician, he looked at it and said it was CDMA that there was nothing to do, he wanted to sell me a GSM motherboard, I told him I would think about it, it was strange for me to be just CDMA, I investigate more and I realize that it's dual, and it changes from MEID to IMEI when I put the SIM card ... I did a factory reset and it did not work. I used the options in *#*#4636#*#* the default is LTE/CDMA/UMTS Auto (PRL) ... I tried to put GSM Only or Auto or any option that included GSM. Without apparent results, I think that it did not even change the default option, the radio bands are few, all from the USA (logical being the USA version of the cell phone) ...
Investigating further, I understood that the problem persists in Android Oreo ... Under the official firmware of Google 7.1.2, I follow the steps, I do the unlocking bootloader, flash vendor / radio, flashing system, in the end there is an error , something about user, I really do not remember, something like that could not erase the user partition or had no permissions ... The issue is that I turn on the cell phone, start to do an erasure, then start asking for google account, etc. ... I configure it, but I see everything the same, I enter the configuration and details of the team, it keeps dialing android 8.1.0, but I see that the base band has changed, some apps have changed, like the application of calls ...
Does anyone know what happened? (And no, the SIM problem was not fixed) :crying:
I want to install this ROM
https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/development/rom-chroma-11-08-2015-lockscreen-navbar-t3244444
According to many sites and here in XDA comment that it solves the problem, but this is 6.0.1 ... It means that I must flash 6.0 stock? To install the custom? Or can I install on 8.1?
Any other more updated custom rom that solves this problem?
Thank you! :fingers-crossed:
