No.
Why would you buy a Samsung if you wanted that?

Because I love the quality of samsung phones that's why. A simple no wiuldve been just fine ma'am.

Vanilla is really pure and fast like hell Try it one time and you´ll know what I mean. Security-Patches and updates also are no problem if it´ll run on our S8. Samsung software behaviour sucks!!

Apologies, but cannot find any references to Vanilla and s8. Can you please shed some light?

Now you see why I dont want to buy a pixel, they're already having screen burn issues. This is why I would love to have e Stock Android on this device.

Having a locked boot loader is a big issue right now for Rom development, the snapdragon is much better in terms of development than exynos bit that boot loader is a problem.

I guess a couple units out of how many units sold so far is a problem but not like any other device goes without a hiccup

Burning on the screen bro? There's no update that'll fix that. Can you imagine how nice stock Android would be on the S8 or the Note 8 would be.

Screen burn in issues is mostly user related, keep your s8 at 100% brightness and you'll regret it

I agree it would be really nice with no lag on a device that has the top hardware specs possible every time. I just cant get over the lag so I will deal with 2nd tier hardware for screen. But I get everyones reasoning behind why they are hesitant/against getting a Pixel 2 XL. I got mine about a week ago and love it so far. I havent had any of the problems that have been listed though for the burn ins. The blue hue is there but to me i never hold the phone off axis so not a deal breaker and the colors of the screen I think look just fine. No its not Samsung bright and popping but if they arent side by side with one you wouldnt ever realize it after a day or 2 using it. The live wallpapers they added really make the screen look nice.

Will they ship to Canada?

I'm just curious, cause I might get it.
And I'm selling my US S3 for it, is it worth it?
They shipped the N7 (even though that did take a little bit for preorders) and it'll cost $20 as well for shipping I believe.
If you like having the Google direct updates, don't mind the lack of removable battery, expandable memory and no LTE...it's a great device.
Oh, and the camera/battery life is something we'll have to wait and see.
Problem I can see with this phone is the lack of screen estate. I always dislike on screen buttons.
take a look here http://googleblog.blogspot.ca/2012/10/nexus-best-of-google-now-in-three-sizes.html and do a ctrl+f for canada and the second time it's mentioned states that the phone will ship unlocked to canada, im so getting it

Then a Nexus is definitely NOT for you. This is the direction Google has chosen to go for reasons they stated and I wouldnt expect them to change it.

Oh yesssss! Unfortunately I cannot post outside links since this is my first post but 309$ cad for the 8GB and 359$ cad for the 16GB on Play store and available Nov 13, does not say anything about shipping but shoud not be more then the 20$ 2 day shipping from the States that I paid for the Nexus 7!

Technically, it's suppose to be 4.7 vs 4.8 but more like 4.5 to the S3's 4.8
If you're wanting a better comparison, search up Galaxy Nexus vs S3. It's basically the same thing.

If your device is rooted it's just a matter of adding a line to the build.prop file.
I use my GNex fullscreen, navigating with Virtual Button Bar, it's not free but works great. When I need the buttons I just pass my finger on top of proximity sensor and they appear! Totally customizable.
Someone says it's dangerous because you're screwed if the service stops... I never had a problem in six months using it this way

if this were a flagship phone, you might have a point with the select few people that are experiencing lag, those that don't, this is about the best mid ranged budget phone you can buy. Some people will say the nexus 5x isn't much more, and that's only true in the US. Outside of the US there is a pretty significant price difference, not to mention all the nexus 5x gives over the moto x play is a finger print sensor and a slightly better camera.
No SD card slot for the nexus 5x killed it as a budget device. Googles argument about SD card storage been slow is kind of moot given they are adding a feature in 6.0 called "Adoptable Storage" meaning I can turn my SD card into part of my phones memory. Meaning a 64gb SD card in my moto x play will my phone will report 80gb of internal storage. Given UHS-3 card can now reach 95mb/s read, it's not that far behind the phones storage speed (getting 125-130) on mine.
For the very select few that have lag, it seems to releated to having specific software, more commonly, having google apps 5.2 or below. Many users noting a significant increase in performance running google apps 5.3+.
The battery is amazing, the camera is about the best you'll get on a sub 400$ phone. It's confirmed we are getting 6.0 and with a SD card slot, this is easily the best budget device on the market at the moment.
Take a look at this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/moto-x-play-performance-t3186858
I think the majority of users have lag issues. To me, it's unacceptable that a Moto G 2nd gen (or even the G 1st gen) don't have this problem and the X Play does. I would definitly look at some other options if I were you, even though in this price range would be a little difficult to find something.

I don't think you've ever owned a fast phone, because you would instantly see how unresponsive this phone feels most of the time. Sure its snappy, but if you can't see that input lag, you arent very knowledgeable about the subject. I wouldn't trust your opinion for that reason.

Maybe you simply have a defective unit. Mine work perfectly and I don't have any lag. Or maybe you aren't very knowledgeable about how to use/configure your phone. I wouldn't trust your judgement for that reason.

Maybe I do have a defective phone, but that wouldn't be my fault would it? If you can give me a video demonstrating your own touch response delay(by turning on the show touch in developer options and demonstrating it through slow and fast swipes), I'd be thankful of you. That way I can prove I can know for sure that it is or isn't a defective unit. I don't mean to start an argument anymore, but if you can help me compare the two, that would help a lot. So far I like this phone a lot except for that reason, I also bought it open box from my carrier, maybe that has something to do with it.
It's not defective, Motorola already admitted it and they are working on a fix. For the play and the style

Its just a software issue which is also faced by few people on moto x style/pure edition. And motorola will gonna rectify it soon. I would still suggest this phone...because of amazing display in 20k..may be the best... Excellent battery life....trust me i am an Indian user n battery is amazing. Camera is pretty good too if you know how to click pictures..(dont do bad photography and blame the camera for it). Marshmallow is just around the corner... Turbo charging n all and it doesnt heat like all those chinese mi4i.....i would still suggest this or you will gonna miss on a pretty powerful smartphone. Apart from it i trust asus zenfones..they are pretty good phones...zenfone 2 is damn good but display n battery is not at all near moto x play. Samsung J7 is good is but too much bloated n i hate touchwiz UI...you can take it as an option though.

Who is returning their OnePlus 5? [MEGA THREAD]

So who is not satisfied with their OnePlus 5 and wants to return is using the 15 day no-hassle return system. If you can please state your reason why.
I'm not returning it, because my unit is not defective, and it's a great phone. Sure, it's not perfect, and the camera isn't that it was hyped to be, but it's still an amazingly snappy phone at a not unreasonable cost.
You should have an option for not returning as that's the question you've asked.
for design reasons '? really ? you guys need a kick on your head...
I'm still testing my phone but for now, i'm really not impressed by the camera. After 7 years of using iPhone i finally decided to buy an Android phone. OnePlus 5 is a beast in terms of performance. But even my iPhone 6 can make better photos sometimes and video recording is all blurry and can't focus at all. If I keep OP5, i will keep it just for near stock android experience but i'm not sure yet. Maybe i will wait for Pixel 2 and hope for some reasonable price.
returned, camera *****
other things ok

No i didn't know that the camera can be so bad i. I can't record any video without having focus issues. Even the code was Clearer Photos but it's not the case at all.
im very happy with the phone and camera. However, I came from the Honor 8 to this one, so the upgrade was extreme. And both cameras on this phone seem to be working extremely well after the update released yesterday(or saturday?). with that said video recording might still need some tweaking in 4K mode without using a stabilizer aside from that, i have no good reason to return this phone.
i don't know why people are bashing on the phone for terrible photo's? especially after the update from yesterday the phone makes pretty good images. would love to know a phone which has a better one under 500 euro's

I think its more that OP made the camera a big selling point. I never really expected it to be as good as the Pixel or S8 but more about a step below. This camera seems to be much much worse than what people were expecting
I hate Samsung and would never buy a galaxy but I have to admit with recent deals, the S8 would be a better phone to buy

Yeah, I agree with you when you say that they made their selling point on the camera. But don't forget the fact that it can change a lot with software update, and maybe we are only at the beginning of a great journey with it. Look, already an update yesterday.
With every iteration of OnePlus, I think it was like this: many updates. to improve software sides of components.

From Pixel 2 XL to Essential

I couldn't justify almost a $1000 tied up into a phone anymore and I seen Essential seems to be cleaning up its mess. Found one locally for $240 and picked it up. So far I cant get over how small the device is. Looks and feels amazing. Im currently loading Oreo beta. Hopefully it leaves me with a good experience.

Just got mine for $200 ??
I picked up a mint white one last night for $300 CAD. I don't love my S8 and am hoping the smaller Pixel 3 gets the small bezel treatment. Thought I'd sell my S8 now while it has the most value.
Got the PH-1 last night, finished setting it up this morning and ordered a case, and a QI wireless charger sticker thing off Amazon to try. Gonna really miss wireless charging so I hope the adapter works. If not, I'll return it. Not sure if I'll keep the PH-1 or not yet, as I also will really miss the always on display. That was something I also disliked on my old Pixel XL.

Mind sharing that link to the qi charger sticker?
I've been all over the S9 plus, and finally got to play around with one. All I can say is, other than the screen being all pretty, it's way too locked down and lacking on features where it counts. Essential + Resurrection Remix wipes the floors with Samsung's half baked TouchWiz features. That phone felt a bit slower that the PH-1. Given the specs, on paper you'd think it would outperform the Essential, but it just doesn't, I set both phones' animation scales to 0.5x, and S9+ just didn't feel as snappy, guess TouchWiz is still a heavy UI. I'm not knocking Samsung devices, but they can at least stop pretending to be an apple wannabe and reenable the OEM unlock switch.

My s8 definitely felt just as fast, touchwiz is much lighter these days, but the lack of any roms or bootloader unlocking killed it for me. Overall I loved the phone.
The major reason for the bootloader lock is the whole knox thing, they are doing well in the corporate sector these days.

I'm not familiar with how Knox works, never owned a Samsung phone, but can't you just flash through fastboot and custom recovery rather than Odin? Or are Samsung devices different from other Android devices?
In any case, I suspect the reason for the s9+feeling a bit slower than essential, may be the screen size. I remember Nexus 6 feeling a bit slower in animations department over Nexus 5 despite Nexus 5 being the less powerful of the two.

They don't have any fastboot, it is its own strange beast. You need to use odin. They managed to get root on it, but there wasn't a whole lot otherwise. The eynos versions you can fully unlock, but in US and Canada all we have are the qualcomm ones.
For me the s8 was super fast, and the camera is seriously magnificent, but I get so bored without root (you need to do some serious stuff to gain it, risk bricking it and your battery life from that point onward will only ever charge to 80%, even if you flash back to stock) and knew that after the oreo update I'd never see another update again.
I'm not sure what made me decide to trade, I got an offer for an essential phone plus cash and jumped on it. At first I regretted it, but once I flashed RR I began to love the phone.
I'm on P beta now, and knowing that I'll be up to date for a long time makes it all worthwhile. I can deal with this phones minor "quirks". I miss a couple things about the s8, but I'd still completely happy with this phone.

Indeed it is, never knew they didn't include a bootloader.
I actually dismissed the essential phone when it first came out as a phone with a gimmick to see how much bezel they can get rid off, but once I tried it out in person, I couldn't put it down. The thing really grew on me after handling it for a few minutes.
How's P beta? Is it stock essential firmware?

I did the same thing, until I really played around with one in store. The design is stunning, it isn't often I'd say a phone is sexy hahaha
Yep the official essential P beta. It has been awesome honestly. Very smooth, and I have yet to encounter any serious bugs (the odd minor bug/quirk, but nothing that bothers me in any way). The gestures are strange for me having been on android since 2008, but I'm slowly getting the hang of things/getting used to it.
For a dev beta, it is very solid.

Essential PH-1 vs Pixel 2 XL Need Help

I need to get a new phone. My current Nexus 6 can barley keep a charge and is very sluggish. I have a chance to get a PH-1 for $280 outright or $240 for sprint version vs getting a Pixel 2 XL for $600. Basically the pixel is more than double the price. I am on Verizon and don;t have many other options for phones that can be easily rooted and bootloader unlocked. I have been reading this forum and most everyone likes their PH-1 except the camera. Is the Camera that bad? How much better is it now with newer software? Google Camera port? Is their anything that would steer me clear from this phone? Money is tight and I really can't afford to spend that much more money if I don't to. Saying that I don't want to buy the PH-1 and hating it only to spend more money to get something else. As for the Sprint version of the phone, I have read it takes only 2 files to unlock it then I read you can't, which on is it? Should I spend the extra $40 to get the non-sprint version?
I know I asked many questions and all your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
BB
The camera is a non issue as most of us use the Google Camera port as our Camera app, so you'll get great IQ from your PH-1 essentially using a port of the Pixel 2 camera app on yr PH-1 see here https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

A big factor is size. I came from the OG pixel (non xl) and I have fallen in love with the size of this phone. The pixel 2 xl I hear is a little tall. It's about as tall as the the nexus 6 actually. However for 280 I can't think of a better deal.. I got mine for 350 and it is a hell of a lot of phone for the price. Just use the Google camera port for sure though

I'm on Verizon and the phone works great.
I don't have any real complaints about the camera and the ability to have a 360 camera is great.
People seem to want DSLR quality from a smart phone. I don't I expect smartphone/point and shoot quality and it meets that.
Is is better than the iPhoneX? I don't know.
Is it better than the Nexus 6P that I had previously? Yep.
I keep a mirrorless APS-C camera in the car. So for me, the phone is a last resort for pics.
Sorry OP, may I borrow your post and make a question too?
I have a Mate 10 Pro, I had the chance to use the Essential Phone for one day.
I know that we can't judge anything with one day but... The Essential Phone felt a little lagging compared to my Mate 10 Pro. One note I have to say is that the Essential was on 8.0.0 (I guess) and not the latest 8.1 update.
So I ask: Isn't the Essential Phone a little slow compared to the others flagships? The camera is a good example to say.
(And I've heard that the Pixel 2 (XL) is one of the fastest smartphone period.)
Sorry again, OP.
Speaking on performance. I have read that the OS is jiggery not smooth. Any comments on that?

Not on 8.1. I just came to this from a Nexus 6, and I've run everything on that, including more than half of the 8.1 ports and for me there's no comparison, this device is a much snappier experience.
If having the bootloader unlocked and rooting is important to you what about ROM or kernel development? There is almost no development for the Essential. After a year on the market only two custom ROMs that I know of officially support this phone--AOSP and Carbon. Yes, you can unlock the bootloader but the development community is almost non-existent.
Twrp is weird on this phone, you cant install it permanently. You'll need to always be near a computer if you want to install anything. Screen has lackluster touch response, smoothness is hit or miss with the jitteriness. Edge detection could be improved. Don't have a pixel but I'd recommend it over the essential.

TWRP is not weird on this phone.
The boot holds the recovery also.
This just means that the custom recovery must be integrated into boot image.
The phone has to complete boot/os setups. The makes sure that you can always recover and you can update the OS white the phone is running.
As far as jitter. A fix is in the developer options in 8.1.
I don't have any touch response issues and the overall device is much better than a Pixel (IMHO).

I have been using PH-1 for a while now and with the official Oreo update and camera port I can recommend this phone. I have an iPhone X also and don't really like it as a "Daily Driver", too use to Android and all it can do over iOS, PH-1 camera is up to par with the iPhone's camera as well. Battery life is the same as the iPhones and no complaints on the UI jitters or signal strength. It's a good phone overall!:good:

Yeah, tried the magisc fix. Phone isn't smooth. Trying to scroll with one hand and having the momentum break cause my hand is slightly touching the screen is annoying AF, like i'm scrolling and it randomly bounces the other way annoying. Scrolling through sites/apps just doesn't feel as good compared to my U11.
Just installed the P preview and the phone feels way better than oreo we'll see how it goes.

P isn't ready for prime time. I hope it works for you though.
I'll wait.

Which camera port are you using, if you mind my asking? Looking at the link, I'm assuming the best one is:
Arnova's v7beta9: GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V7beta-test-9.apk (Arnova8G2, 2018-03-25, no config needed, suggested settings, changelog)
Just got a PH-1 last night and want to fully set it up and use it for a few days before selling my S8.
Thanks
