Oreo roms - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Sony released the guide for making the aosp Oreo firmware. Why there isn't anybody here who tried to make one ?

I don't know mate.
I didn't mean to blame anybody.
I don't know how to make the ROM myself so I was asking if any developers tried to make it and it works and can be uploaded here.

Yeah, everybody waits for you to tell them If you don't know how to make ROM, learn it maybe...

Too soon to build a stable AOSP rom yet, they seem to work daily on it

For anyone wondering, here is the link to the binaries if you wanted to build your own ROM or maybe start playing with the kernel, but it's very early and they will likely update/improve this before official Sony ROMs for our device are available:
https://developer.sonymobile.com/do...ies-for-aosp-oreo-android-8-kernel-4-4-loire/

I built it a aosp oreo a few days ago and it's looking promising. The stability now seems good. Camera is not working for the moment. It runs quite smooth too

I've already made it. Not usable, so I didnt publish it. When it get into the launcher, it will auto reboot and then stuck in boot logo forever.

Hi! Can you relase it or have you relased it already. I would like to test it on my XC. I have looked for Oreo for the XC but with no luck. I saw that the XZ already has a relased build so can you or anyone do the same?

When I'm next in front of my PC I'll upload to this thread. It's not my work so I'm not going to create a separate thread for it.
There is one caveat and that is you will have to flash the vendor binary image to the /oem partition.
The nougat bootloader doesn't support this.
I guess sony will update the bootloader with their official oreo update.
Instead you have to convert their sparse image to ext format. Then dd the image onto the /oem partition.

Sony posts device tree sources that barely boot and don't produce stable roms. They rely on users to update the source trees for AOSP roms. These updates require a lot of work to sus out. You can't just "build" a good AOSP ROM without decent source.
The short answer to why one hasn't been posted is that Sony's AOSP program is a joke and it takes a lot more than most people would think given Sony's lip service to it.

Successfull buil AOSP Oreo
Tried to build AOSP Oreo r36 and was successful.
No bootloops
Anything seems to be working but
- the fingerprint sensor works partially (detects the fingerprint when initializing it but not after)
- there are some functionalities like noise cancelling and smart charge that are not available at the moment.

Xperia Z2 CM 13.0 Unofficial

I was googling and I found this link
https://builds.hubdroid.com/cm13/sirius/
There's an unofficial build of CM 13.0 dated 20151212 for sirius on this website, I haven't made or tested this rom, just sharing it for those interested because I've seen people talking about cyanogenmod 13.0 made for the xperia z2 but not out to public, so is this one?
Better than if you test this build
I'd test it after I finish testing the cm 12.1 on my device because it has some weird issue of randomly rebooting on it's own but when im done with that I'd definitely test this
One thing I'm almost sure about is that this rom can't have a working camera since the camera blobs aren't even fully working yet so I wouldn't judge the rom for not having a working camera, if it doesn't
I'm gonna test it but i thought i'd share it so that if anyone that actually heard about this website (cuz I honestly haven't heard about it until now) and could fill in some info about it
It won't boot up
Hello everyone
Rom installation failed, something wrong with updater script anyone tried it?
Edit:maybe it is for a specific variant, i think for D6502
Mine D6503, anyone with D6502 tried it
format /data /cache and /system and then try to install
I tried it with multirom maybe that is the issue, i will try later as a normal installation
I'm already familiar with custom roms, i know i have to wipe everything
It won't boot. Tested setback times both fresh install and dirty install over cm12.1.

How developer friendly in OP?

I am new to the OnePlus community. How developer friendly are their phones? I was planning to get a Pixel as my next phone, but the spec and price for th Op5 look tempting.
Can we expect TWRP support and custom ROMs on the OnePlus 5?
Considering the amount of ROMs and various other development we've been getting with the OnePlus 3/3T, I can think we can expect something similar. OnePlus is an amazing company in that sense - especially since unlocking your bootloader doesn't void your warranty. (At least with the OnePlus 3/3T).
All required sources will be released by OP shortly. It will be simple to port the trees to LineageOS, so we can build custom roms for the OP5. I will start building RR as soon as the LineageOS sources are ready
Well with op3 it took a while to get working fp sensor on aosp roms, and they still have to use camera blobs (for the people out of the loop, that means slower camera.
Of course we can expect that - every OP phone until now got HUGE support by xda-devs
But i think this time i will ony flash TWRP and use Stock OxygenOS with Magisk

You mean, as soon as we have a working TWRP build... Same here btw. But I will try to be more active here as I was in the Oneplus Two forums. Just ordered a Oneplus 5 myself .
I have had the op3t , op3. OP has been sluggish to say the least with dropping kernel sources.. if you'd like some entertainment, take a look for @fransisco Franco's lashing towards Carl Pei and OnePlus. In order for a company to be considered "developer friendly," they need to share the sources in a timely matter.. they have improved as of late.
With all that being said, there is great beta testing and support in the XDA threads from @FuNkwizard.
I'm looking forward to this op5 beast!

They released the kernel source on github on day 1. That's amazing.

They really should release the camera sources so custom ROMs can utilise them. This is a big annoyance for me.
Device Trees and Kernel Sources been uploaded yesterday.
https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/download-device-trees-and-kernel-sources-for-the-oneplus-5.552354/
https://github.com/OnePlusOSS
Do we have any visibility of which Developers/ROM teams are planning on supporting the OnePlus 5?
I know there will be great support for this device, especially with the kernel sources and device tree already out but curious as to whether people like Sultan are making the move up to 5 or staying put on the 3/3T?

Ordered my OP5 yesterday and asuming Varund will launch his Ressurection Remix rom for it. Always used his rom on my OPO. Great stuff
Anyone knows if OP will also release all the dual camera stuff?

Future of OP3T

What is the future of OP3T concerning roms? I know One Plus will not provide support after the O update, so well have to get our taste from custom roms. Why are there so many resurrection ROMs? Does anyone still use all those features anyhow? I can't tell you the last time i heavily modified my rom. I typically stay on PA, FreedomOS, or stock rooted.
Does anyone know where I can find some AOSP kernels?

no one said O is end of the line for 3/3T, it's the end of beta, they cant keep 2 beta's
that's said, even if that's true, there will be plenty of O custom roms, and probably P when it's released...
AOSP kernel, hmm, ther was one i don't remember it's name i'm not sure if it's still maintained, look for it on the cross devices section, it was the kernel for the OSIP rom.

There will be no Android P without the source code which One Plus won't release because theyre stopping after Oreo. Oreo based Roms will be the final Android version.

Actually I don't know how that goes, since I know nothing about developing ROMs, but since there is new OS versions for devices which didn't get them officially, there must be some way. Some functions propably not gonna work similarly, depends on device tho (Samsung Note 4 example.. custom ROMs were missing all "S pen" -stuff and camera quality was horrible. All camera framework stuff were binded to Touchwiz itself), but atleast our Oneplus 3T is quite simple device and camera is so far working "good enough" even on custom ROMs.

The source code used for custom roms is based on aosp(google)not on the one released by oneplus. Basically the one on pixel and nexus devices and mixed up with oneplus drivers( blobs actually)..
So no. Custom roms will continue till developers stop making builds.years after oneplus droping support
This phone is good for the next year at least. People will still have it since it's like the budget pixel

even OPO has 7.1.2 custom roms, why you need to worry ?

Not really. The code oneplus release, the blobs and the devices trees can help to improve custom ROMs, but custom ROMs won't disapear if we doesn't have the source.
Just look at the Xperia SP for example. Official android version, 4.3. Android version thanks to custom ROMs, Oreo.
The code the manufacturer release is highly important at launch, to have a base to work on to port a custom ROM. On android P developers will take the android O tree and start to update it to support the code changes of P, without the need of OP.

Android Oreo AOSP

Since Sony released instructions how to compile and install Android 8.0. Has anyone done it? I just did it but I'd like to know if there is others who have done it? General discussion about it is welcome! Also if there is any tips from others, everything is welcome.

I tried the Oreo builds. They are pretty rough on the edges. It works but I would just stay on the official older builds. I did few builds but it got old pretty fast since builds take on my server around 8 hours and trial and error gets really slow with that wait time between builds.

Is motorola working over oreo drivers? If someone knows till when can we can have hands over it?
P.s.: I suppose oreo drivers, will solve the camera and flashlight ,common issues in Oreo roms.

I think you mean Motorola will work on a stock Oreo rom from which you can use the blobs for fixing camera issues for example.
Motorola will never release only drivers without a stock rom. That makes no sense and customers can't benefit from it when there's no ota stock rom.
Anyway, please read this thread as it covers the whole topic about your questions and gives an overview what's known at the moment https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-getting-android-o-t3576948
