Q.When will twrp and custom rom for mi a1 be available ? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I have noticed that there is no TWRP recovery available for our device and also no custom rom which i wanted for customization as stock rom doesn't have it.
If anyone found TWRP recovery for mi a1. please post here as I want to root my device.

Bro, you can root your device without TWRP, but yes we all are looking for the TWRP for our lovely device, hope someone will crack it soon, hope for the best !

This phone is awesome, I like RAM management of this phone. I don't think this phone requires any customisation and guys feel innovative of this ROM atleast for few month's.

Is rom customization was what you were after then you should not have gotten this device. The A/B partition makes development hard. This is the main problem the pixels had and why many developers stopped working on devices with that partition.

I know that

Last gen Android one devices had rich custom ROM development. I expect same for mi A1. Though it will take some time, but twrp and custom ROMs will soon be available. I want custom ROM for features like night light, pixel color palette, double tap to sleep, button customisation, button led, etc, etc.

Custom ROM and Custom Kernals will only be available when OeM will release the source code

Official TWRP for Xiaomi Mi A1
But for my knowledge, the official twrp is already released. I have the file but as I'm new in the forum so I'm not able to post the external link in the post. DM me if anyone needs the link.
(If have any doubt you can check the compatibility directly boot from this twrp without flashing stock.)

In most cases is kinda a lottery to install successfully a treble ROM because of the Huawei encryption. Firstly I recommend to upgrade to the final and latest version of Oreo (B360) (using HuRUpdater) which is the final version and then flash this TWRP recovery:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-lite/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-oreo-t3777582
Here you have 2 options: You can format /data and then factory reset after you flash the ROM OR flash back the stock recovery and wipe data from there. The later option works the best for most people.
If it's a system.img then you can flash it by fastboot and keep the original Huawei recovery and do a wipe from there.
Like I said it's kinda lottery so keep in mind to have the stock firmware handy if anything goes wrong.
thanks for the advice
i will have a play
the only thing i dont understand is that i thought the Treble ROMS should be device non specific and then ANY treble rom should work........... as the underpinning "drivers" (sorry im used to explaining my thinking in windows speak) are allready sorted and on another partition on the phone ready to go
If im missing somthing please can someone correct me or explain it better as although i can and have flashed all of the android devices i own my knowledge ends there with Android.

Will we get an unofficial LineageOS for Lenovo TAB M10?

Lenovo TAB M10 is a cheap 10" tablet. It seems that currently there are no custom ROMs for it. Given the fact that Lenovo will probably never provide software update for it, without custom ROM, it will become a paperweight fast.
So, I wonder how likely if someone creates an unofficial LineageOS build for it in about a year or so. Are Lenovo's tablets generally hard to create a custom ROM for?
Let's say that it would be nice to have a custom rom, but first a recovery would help.
I am trying to develop something, but unfortunately I have no experience building the vendor/device folders required, fundamental to perform this activity.
Moreover, considering that the device is still pretty new, I don't know.
Tbh, I was thinking about installing debian or archlinux on it: mine has no 3g, and a pure Linux would likely extend the device supported
Any updates to M10 custom ROMs...?
The partial good news is that Lenovo has actually provided an Android 10 update, and TWRP is available for the M10. As far as I can tell there are still no custom roms though; I'd love to put LineageOS on it.
M10 FHD Plus user here... I've unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp and magisk, but where can I find custom roms?
I flashed Ubuntu Touch on my M10 FHD Plus a few days ago. The process was alright, though I had some trouble using SP flash utility. Didn't need to use TWRP. Charging is abysmally slow, so there's definitely room for improvement of the ROM's compatibility with the device.

SP flash V5 works better than v6, at least on my linux machine.

Any news to this so far? I found a guide on tweakdroid but to me that looks like it's autogenerated nonsense. I would try it though, if nothing comes up anywhere else
I would like to buy it... Is it dead in modding?

Why do all custom ROMs require a vendor flash as first step?

So, I'm asking since I thought about going for a custom ROM to escape all the little incompatibilities of MIUI.
For the Mi 9T every cROM installation begins with installing a vendor first though and I was wondering why that is needed. Are essential parts of the ROM not open to cROM developers? Or is everything closed up and all cROMs are just very intricate themes and extra programs laid on top of MIUI (like an emulation)?
If any developer could chime in and explain why cROM installation is so different for the Mi 9T compared to other devices, I'd be very obliged. :good:
Hi.. I'm no developer, but what I can tell you is that it is not only a Mi 9T "problem", but almost all newest Xiaomi devices need a vendor firmware flash before installing a custom ROM. This is because all device updates and security fixes are distributed that way. BTW.. Just to make sure, vendor firmware must not be confused with vendor partition.
Hope this helps a little bit.
Cheers

Can you just downgrade OOS to Android 10 and then flash TWRP or is it impossible?

Hi, I recently bought an used OnePlus 8 Pro and it was already updated to Android 11. After repairing it, I discovered that it's not possible to run TWRP on this firmware version.
Couldn't I just go ahead and downgrade the OS in order to run TWRP on it or is it basically impossible like on the latest Samsung Galaxy S-series devices?
Would be glad if someone could answer me that question. I kinda tried to boot into twrp because I was too quick to read the thread but it just caused my device to run into Qualcomm Emegency Mode.
What do you need twrp for? If it's just to root and almost everything else... It can be done via other means.

Hmmmm the way I've seen a lot of custom roms... They're installed/flashed partition by partition in bootloader via fastboot.....I guess if you have to use twrp to flash the entire rom you do need to downgrade to os 10.

Thank you for your response. i think i just did not catch up the latest progress. Would you please help me find the instruction about how to flash rom in the new way you mentioned ? thank you so much.
And i still have the same question , is it necessary for us to downgrade to android 10 and then start flashing rom.
Look at the roms in the subforum here:

I just looked at some popular ones like Pixel experience and Lineage and they're both flashed in this way. Look at the opening post where the instructions are... Seems like Pixel Experience there's a batch file that flashes the partitions but it's essentially done this way without twrp.

thank you for your reply, I already tried to flash pixel experience, i followed the install guide but failed to flash its recovery file.

Because it requires installing rom from recovery, so I get stuck here.
The problem is the device enters crash dump mode when switched to recovery mode. I guess the reason is that my p8pro is in andriod 11 before i flash recovery. now the device can enter android 11 normally but the recovery don't function. So I am here to ask is it necessary for me to downgrade to android 10 to solve the problem.

Thank you for your reply, it help me a lot. i have already flash my device lineage os . Regarding the problem i mentioned in my last reply, it seems the install guide is for android 10. As for android 11 , i think it needs a payload dumper to extract all files and flash them one by one.

I think the answer depends why do you need twrp. If you just want to flash a rom like me, you can find a custom rom supporting android 11,for example lineage os and you can flash all files it requires without twrp.
If you want to flash a android 10 rom or you just want to flash twrp , i don't know how, maybe you should downgrade.

Need orange fox recovery for Red magic 5G

Could someone please make an unofficial orange fox recovery for red magic 5g.. I am currently using the RR custom rom with android version 10 on my device and It's highly customizable but there are two things I don't like.. (1) there is practically no way to configure finger print on the device and (2) the rgb backlights and notification led doesn't work. Also, NFC doesn't work but I tbh don't care much about it.
You can check the below link I have mentioned everything in detail. ( Post in thread '[ROM] [UNOFFICIAL] Resurrection Remix OS 8.x [Q|Android 10.0]' https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...x-os-8-x-q-android-10-0.4194675/post-86231789 )
I tried flashing the unofficial android 12 GSI using fastboot as there is no way using twrp but all I ended up with was a bricked phone trice. For the 4th time it flashed but I was having performance issues (I din't try custom kernels as I got really fedup) so I just left it and got back to RR. I heard that there is an easier way to flash .img files on dynamic partitions android device using orange fox recovery. Or if there is an easy way to flash a GSI on my device plz suggest the procedure.
My device spec - 12gb ram, 128gb rom, RM5G
you can build an OF recovery using the OF builder tutorial on github, and using a stock recovery for the device much like the way TWRP bots build recoveries for devices.
When you get it built, post your sources in the dev section here, and add a donation link. if the recovery works with current android 11 and is better than the current TWRP variations, I will donate for the completed work. I hope too that others will contribute to it.
good luck.
also i dont know why this is not in the Q and A section. its not a guide, or a discussion. its a request / question for dev work.
