Full notifications on AOD? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi!
Whenever I receive a notification, the AOD shows an icon for the relevant app.
I would like to see a detailed notification, like who sent the message and a preview, not just an icon.
I've already went into the AOD settings and made sure "hide content" and "notification icons only" are not ticked, but no change.
I have the G950U1, lock screen enabled and AOD enabled. not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Would really appreciate help.

That is how it is supposed to work. There's no official way to show the whole notification on AOD other than if you enable Edge Lighting where it will display a preview for a couple seconds before disappearing leaving just the icon to double tap.
Although I am interested if there's some way to jimmy it to be more useful too.

Well, that's disappointing...
Thanks for the reply.

Go to Settings/Apps/Options (3 dots at the top right corner)/Show system apps. Go into Alway On Display, hit Force Stopp, go to Memory and delete data and cache.
Check AoD again.

Just did what you suggested.
Except for now constantly showing a two overlapping circles and "double tap here to find out how to use AOD", no change...
Now, how do I get rid of that icon and text and get the full notification on AOD, if that's possible?
Edit: got rid of the icon and text, but still no full notification on AOD.
Can anyone share a screenshot of full notifications on AOD?

How do you disable Flashlight?

I know with my N5 I had constant problems with the "butt dial flashlight" and on of the reasons I got a N6 is that I wanted to eliminate that problem and indeed it was successful. Now with the 6P this morning I noticed my pocket was getting hot and I took the phone out and the flashlight was on.. How do I disable the flashlight as I never use it anyway and if you ever saw a battery sucker it is the flashlight?
Assuming you're talking about the quick launch icon in the notification shade, turn on System UI Tuner (hold down the settings gear in the shade for a few seconds and it will start to spin under your finger (hard to see). Then go into settings and at the very bottom it will say System UI tuner. You can then customize what icons are shown in the shade.
Ok what is "notification shade" .. does phone need to be rooted as I held down the settings gear for at least 9 seconds on the screen that shows things such as bluetooth, airplane mode, auto rotate, Location.. etc and I never got the setting wheel on the upper right near the percentage of battery and nothing happened, but my 6P is not rooted?
Your phone does not need to be rooted, but you do need to keep your finger very still as you're pressing on the gear icon. It took me a couple of tries.
if you have OK GOOGLE enabled...
"OK Google, turn off flashlight".
I'm serious.
You don't need to be rooted. Maybe have developer settings turned on in the first place?
"To enable System UI Tuner in Android 6.0 Marshmallow preview 3, pull down your notification shade and long-press on the Settings gear icon for up to 5 seconds. Once you let go, you should see a pop-up with the message “Congrats! System UI Tuner has been added to Settings.” And as that message suggests, you can head into settings, scroll to the bottom, and find an option for System UI Tuner."
Once enabled you will see a small wrench next to the gear icon in the notification shade.
Notification shade is the pulldown menu where you notifications appear, and where the quicklaunch icons are.
As @Zlatty said, you might need to turn on Developer Options first (but the Droid Life guide doesn't mention it). To enable this, go to Settings > About and tap on Build Number 7-8 times until it says "You're a developer!".
Will this stop it from going on or does it just shut it off once it it on?
OK I was able to access that screen and flashlight icon was pale with a diagonal line through it but all that tells me is that it is off as I did nothing to disable PERMANENTLY the flashlight that I know of ??
Yes that worked but you have to know it is on.. I want it never to go on.
@painfree Click and hold on the flashlight quick launch icon in the System UI tuner Quick Settings and drag it down to the trash to delete the icon from your Quick Settings/Quick Launch.
fury683, thank you that worked it is removed.

Second screen tied to notification drawer

For years I have hidden the notification drawer on the top of the screen, most of the info there is duplicated in my widgets, and I just don't like the clutter. However with the V20, hiding the notification drawer also turns off my second screen...which then gets rid of one of the marquee features of this phone.
I've tried on multiple launchers (Nova and Next), and the same result. I've tried permanently hiding it, and using gestures to toggle on and off.
Does anybody have any suggestions? Any rooted users know if this is a problem after root? This one little problem annoys me to no end.
Thanks a lot.
I'm on a non-rooted Verizon V20.
There is a setting that might help that allows it to be active when the display is in fullscreen mode. It's meant for videos so it might not have full functionality.
I'm rooted and I get the same thing. I use Nova and the "toggle notification bar" shuts the second screen off along with the notification bar. I don't know why they're tied together like that, it's annoying...
The second screen's "show time while content is shown" option will leave it on with the notification bar toggled off, but it doesn't do anything, it just shows time and notifications up there. You can't scroll it to get to anything.

Nougat notification shade...

I have a few persistent notifications in the drop down Tasker, Last Pass, Pebble. Before the update there was no notification showing up at the top. Now it always says "3" with a big arrow. It will drive me utterly insane if it stays like that. Any way to make it not do that? Before how it would only do that if there were too many icons to show individually on the bar. Does it never do that now? It always shows a number instead of showing you which app it was for which was actually useful.
Settings, display, untoggle "only show quantity in status bar "
Fabulous, thanks.

Auto Rotate Icon has disappeared

My auto rotate icon has disappeared from my notification panel and is missing from the available choices when I edit the list. I've cleared data from Touchwiz Home. I've re-enabled all packages (Disabler Pro) but to no avail. Any other ideas? I am not rooted.
Attached is a screen shot of my options.
Did you restart your device?
Try to turn it off and then on again. I know it sounds stupid and in most cases, it works.
Have you done right scroll, that applies to upper and lower part of available shortcuts. It should be there. But in case you're out of luck, use shortcutter app
It's a wonder what a night's sleep can do. I looked at the screenshot again with fresh eyes and am feeling really silly. "Portrait" is the option which is the other half of "auto rotate." I guess I was expecting the same icon and perhaps a more recognizable label.

How to show notification icons on status bar on lock screen

Hello,
I have POCO M3, MIUI Global 12.0.4, android 10 QKQ1. I really like the phone but there is one thing that drives me mad and that is the fact that the status bar with all notification icons is not visible on the lock screen. In the place where the icons should be, there is just the information about the network provider.
I have tried to look for the way to keep the status bar on the lock screen but to no avail. CustoMIUIzer has the option to keep the floating notification on the lock screen, which is great, but I need to see the icons as well. Does anyone know any way how to do it? Any app, EdXposed module or anything? Maybe I missed something?
Thank you in advance.

You can try to go to settings, display, control center and notification shade, turn off the option "show carrier when device is locked", to see if this works.
Edit: I just tried it myself, and with that option disabled, the icons are still not shown on the lock screen.

That's true, unfortunately it does not work... And the worst thing is that just after pressing the power button when the screen is locked, you can see the icons on the bar for just a fraction of a second before they disappear. I would love for them to stay there.
