Just overwhelmed on my n6 stock 8 SOT - Nexus 6 General

Edit: nothing to see here, only 6:17 hours, with only 2% remaining. For some reason the screen jumped on draining battery i guess.
Hello there! I was just on my way to home and i have some minutes to write about what is being a VERY nice surprise: just 4 hours on SOT and 48% battery yet.
My personal recipe, just begun on a lot of testing custom roms that will only deliver at most like 4 hours on sot, and maybe less.
So, here's my test:
Stock MM rom - decrypted
Pico gapps
Normal apps like Facebook, ig, lnkdn, wsap, here maps and others.
I know, and i'm aware about the security issues, and i was thinking on a replacement phone, yhe hell that i'm going to let down my beloved MOTO N6; i whish that this phone would have a 4000mah battery.
Best phone ever.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk

I can't upload pics, but i will upload as soon as possible on a desktop, and coz i don't have a tapaccount, but just to make things clear i been testing and using a lot of custom roms, included these ones that claim bug-free oses.
Well, i would whish a clean MIUI launcher and i would be done with this.

I have been looking at the motorola e4 plus, the battery is 5000mah, would it have the same size to modify the N6?

I have a Moto E4 plus that has a broken screen. I'm going to yank the battery out of it and see if it fits in the Nexus 6.

Curious, if you're running stock MM, why flash Pico Gapps?

Yeah, flashed through NRT, and then flashed picogapps in recovery.
To clarify things:
the phone has stock android mm mob31t (flashed with NRT for unencrypted data partition)
Lastest recovery teamwin 3.0.3
Picogapps.
Some minor tweaks in settings, like enabled dev, for sppeding animations. Gps on device only.

I don't like the ui, so that's why I'm sticking to MM.
Did you make any changes, apart from the stock nougat?

Not that much, he's rooted and encryption disabled.
I turned off every feature I don't use. I activate a feature, only when I need it, just as long as I need it.
(BT always off, Wifi when needed, data always on, NFC always disabled, Ambiant display disabled, greenified everything, set a true black theme with black wallpaper, no gesture, LED activated)
You can earn maybe one or two SOT hours more, but you have to lower the resolution/density. (That increase perfomances too)
Edit: You can reach 10h SOT without lowering screen density... (while calling/texting/browsing/networking/youtubing)

Did not try Paranoid, but I read that it isn't stable at that time.
PN is stable, have nice features and is well updated. Good perfs and battery life.
In my case, I don't want to switch to another because PN works fine. And I learned to keep working things instead of switching and take the risk that it won't work anymore..

Good to know, how i can apply a dark teme? I'm on stock kernel, in some moment i did test the lowerin resolution too but i was unable to check any difference, i will check that again.
I did test the pure nexus too, and never reached the 5 hours on SOT, plus a little buggy for that time, (two months ago)

If I am right, layers on MM can be changed with RRO Layers, which is now deprecated.
You'll have to download the RRO LAyer manager and then somme layers of your choice.
If you wanna lower screen density, the better choice is 720p because of the homothetic proportions. (otherwise, some icons may be bugged)
I forgot, I try to avoid heavy apps. I did not install facebook and created a shortcut to fbchrome's page. Same thing with Tweeter.
GPS also disabled if not needed

Please let us know. I'm installing a droid turbo battery (3900mah) in my Nexus 6 soon. The zerolemon note 4 I had broke that phone isn't any where near as smooth as the Nexus but I still miss the insane battery life. I'm willing to buy an e4 plus if the battery connects. The Nexus 6 was my girlfriend's old phone she upgraded to the s8 plus.

I'll see if it fits this weekend. I'm currently using a Moto Z Play and the battery life is off the charts.
I have about 4-5 Nexus 6's that I can tinker with and about 2-3 Droid Turbo's that have good batteries also

It will fit with some modifications. Check this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/battery-mod-t3536162 . Ordered a new Nexus 6 mid housing on Amazon for 10$ just in case I mess mine up. I'll post some pics this weekend. My battery life now is terrible.. Figured if I need to replace the battery anyways might as well upgrade it.
So I did the Droid turbo battery swap. So far so good battery life seems way better than the stock dying battery. I did have to modify the frame some to make the battery and back cover fit.Wireless charging and everything works.

Using custom kernel with stock ROM?

So I got a Nexus 4 last week, and I couldn't be happier. Coming from the Galaxy Nexus, this phone is essentially everything I loved about the Samsung, but on steroids. I was a HUGE crack-flasher with my Samsung, but the fluidity of the stock Nexus 4 is impeccable. Which brings me to my question --
I'm getting around 3.5 hours screen on time if only on HSPA+, and 4.5 hours if on mostly WiFi. Would the battery life be improved significantly if I flashed, say, Franco's Milestone-2? Or is it generally not a big difference if you flash a custom kernel on a stock ROM?

It depends on your usage. Personally I get the same amount of screen time on a custom ROM or on stock ROM with Franco.kernel. You also have to manage your apps according as well and having a good signal is an important to a longer battery life as well. Doing light tasks will increase screen time as well. Gaming will deplete the battery by a lot. So it really just depends on your usage.

I appreciate the response. Question for you: does fluidity remain just as beautifully magnificent if using Franco's?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
stock with franco is my current set up. i ALWAYS end up going back to stock because i find it alot more fluid out of the box state than any custom rom.
battery life for me theres a marginal bump up. but i keep the kernel as is no tweaking besides color calibration.
and of course that part depends on many variables in your particular situation. apps, managing apps, how much you use the phone etc.
i am no app hoarder just the basic essential apps that get my through the day.
i can honestly say this is my perfect set up for my N4. Stock with root and francos nightly kernel color tweaked

yes i notice a difference in my battery life. nothing big but i can tell you theres a difference and every little ounce of juice helps im the type of person who always reups over night and im usually at around 35% by 10pm after a full day of use
I prefer bricked (note my signature) but Franco's is nice, probably the most popular one out there for either N4 or N7.
help ?
Sorry if this is a bit out of context, but Since I have less than 10 posts, I am unable to comment on the most suitable thread. Searched Q&A and other threads as suggested, found conflicting replies.
My problem: Flashed stock ROM on my Nexus 4,(jwr66y) but am unable to move past the boot screen ("android") while flashing franco's kernel for nexus 4 OSAP from franco's thread regarding the same.
Tried the boot image from franco's post as well as the boot image from the occam jwr66y post. Does not move past the boot screen. Help?!

Did that before flashing anyway. And after restoring stock system.img and several times in between.. dalvik and cache both.
Might have to download a toolkit to install it.. Don't know if it will make a difference or not
Tried the milestone boot.img also. Does not even move past "Google" in this case..

So far my record was 9 days, yup, you hear it right 9 days. It was only sms and call use but still I haven't heard about such thing from anyone with any device (ofc android). But mostly I'm charging it once per 5-7 days since I bought nexus 7 2013, so as for anyone who are looking for for durable android phone - jackpot and bullseye in one time.
Oh, don't believe ? Here are screens made just seconds ago -
Click to view 3 screenshots from standby time, on screen and overall.
It says - 9 days left / 3d 19h standby time (last charged) / 42m on screen time. Also there was few calls, few sms and quick web browsing (most of screen on time). So... maybe 10 days these time ?
My Lg g pad supports almost a week with 15-16 of sot
You'll never get rid of it? 5 yrs from now? Yeah, I had a moto g and battery life was good. But I'll take performance and size (nexus 6) over battery life any day. But hey, that's just me.
I get a phone to have fun with, not to see how long I can go without charging.

I know the Moto G is good, but you guys must never touch your phones.
Let it run to 0% battery and then see if you're singing the same tune
From my observations there is about a 1 in 5 chance of the eMMC being irreparably* bricked if the battery drops to the point of forced shutdown on any Moto G model (2013 or 2014)
*complete partition table loss, requiring the MBM-CI files which are still not available for Lollipop

There is simply a design flaw, discharge your device a few times and see for yourself.

Thinking about purchasing but worried about battery... your opinions?

I am considering purchasing a moto x pure edition because it can move to any carrier. This is the main reason I was considering this phone. The second and equally important reason is battery life. My current phone is a galaxy s4 active. The battery doesn't get me through the day at work (10 hours) with moderate use (4 hours screen time). This has annoyed me greatly. Unfortunately, I cannot have it charging at work so the phone needs to make it with ease through the day. I do not have wifi available so all activity will be through 4glte with 3/5 signal. I realize one of the complaints with the phone is battery life. My question is, if I root/unlock bl (which I do with every device), are there kernels that anyone here is running that can undervolt and get me that all day battery life out of this thing? I really don't want to buy it and be back in the same boat again. Unfortunately, the gs4a i had was never boot loader unlocked so i'm stuck on crappy touchwiz with stock kernel. It performs fine but battery life stinks. If I buy this phone, will i be dissapointed? Thanks to everyone for your responses.

You shouldn't have any problem hitting 4hrs SOT in 10 hours off the charger. I never have to charge this thing at work. I leave the house at 5am and don't plug it in until about 9pm.

I just got my moto x pure two days ago. I came from using an S4 active which I still have. The turbo charing helps with the moto x. I'm still getting use to setting up my moto x the way I want it. You learn from trial and error. The main thing for me is that I want to make sure I can return to stock regardless of what happens to my phone.

I range from 3-5 hours of screen on time depending on my usage. If I'm at the 3 hr end, then I usually make it off the charger from 5am-9pm range with a bit of life left. If I'm at the 5 hr end I'll have to charge a decent amount sooner (maybe 5am-6pm) but it's still a full day's use. I've run completely stock and I've tried a few different Roms and Kernels...I've never seen a huge difference in battery life though.
5 hs.of SOT, 12 hs without a charger ( not in the first week of use) you need a minimal of 5 charge/discharge cycles

I just got my Moto XPE too. Battery life was one of my biggest concerns. I came from a moto e (that little thing had ridiculous battery life). I was worried because of all the complaints of short battery life but I can tell you this:
When I first used the phone (no root, mods, out anything) I got around 4 hours sot pretty easily. That's a little short for me but it isn't terrible. The phone got really warm though and I felt as if it was unoptimized and the CPU was doing more work than it needed to.
I proceeded to void my warranty and unlock the bootloader. First I did a little research on these big.LITTLE cpus then i used a (well pretty much the only established one) custom kernel, Frankenclark, to do a little tweaking.
All I did was turn touchboost off and make the lowest CPU frequency one step lower, as well as turning hotplug to where the screen on minimum CPU count is 1. There was basically no loss in performance and it doesn't even get as much as warm now. I can't give you stats on the long term battery life yet but in the time that I wrote this I only lost 2% ( I type slow ).
Before both the big and LITTLE CPU clusters were showing on and pretty much going crazy all the time. Now the big cluster is hardly ever on. The phone by default has touchboost set to turn on cpu1 (which is one of 2 cores in the big cluster) every time you touch the screen, which is very wasteful. (At least that's how it was with this kernel, I'm pretty sure stock did the same thing) I'm currently running TruPureX ROM (stock debloated) but I doubt it gives any battery life improvements. Motorola made a good stock rom. I really like this phone. Good luck with your purchase! PS the Nexus 6p has generally better battery life if you can live with no sdcard and the steeper price. The 6p can also move between carriers as the XPE can. Verizon included which is what I use.
[Edit]
When you put this thing down, you can expect to pick it back up with the same battery % left. Standby is ridiculous, which is nice.
^^Does your screen on setting of 1 cpu stick? On mine with kernel editor it reverts back to 2 after a reboot.

This is incredible information! Thank you! Unfortunately, the 6p is just out of my price range.

I think I remember it's a bug where it will stick if the screen is on while kernel adiutor is restoring the settings but it will revert to 2 cores if the screen is off while it's restoring. Don't quote me on it but I think that's what it was.

It was mine too. I got the 64GB MXP for the same price as the 16GB on amazon and I couldn't resist. It's nice to have an SDcard too :good:

If I set it 1 6 1 (min screen on cores: 1, max cores : 6, max screen off cores 1), the phone will reboot if I don't allow kernel auditor to apply the settings while screen is still on (after a reboot). That is, after phone reboots, if screen goes blank, when I hit the power button, phone will reboot on its own.
Probably not a major issue considering I only reboot about once every week or two. I can make sure I watch the cycle and unlock it, wait for everything to settle, then turn off the screen.
Guess what I just got? someone on eBay was selling the 64gb for 300 bucks in mint condition! Just can't beat it. Thanks to everyone for info and suggestions along the way. Any recommendations on cases and screen protectors? I've always like seidio for cases and whatever is highly rated on @maz0n for screen protectors but any advice would be appreciated!
I have seidio case and holster, I think they only sell one for it, and I love it.

Ultimately I wound up getting a vena vskin that's see through. I really love it. Only problem is the back is curved life the phone so using it on a table with one hand swiping for SwiftKey makes it spin.

So guys, in your opinion, which is the best Nougat ROM with the best battery life?

Been very excited about the awesome work the devs are pulling off. Just thinking which one to flash!

Battery life depends on so many facts, I already explained this in other forums. You can't compare battery life between different types of usage. So it's to you to test with your own UNIQUE usage behavior & apps+network different roms to find your own.
For example: heavy users(draining battery within 24 hours) don't care about wake locks or Alarms, but people who let their device for hours laying on the desk does

That's absolutely true.
I'm more of the kind of guy who leaves the phone idle a lot. I would love a ROM which doesn't drain battery on idle.
Since I use Greenify and also don't frequently keep my data on either, I'm expecting good battery which I unfortunately don't get on my Nougat stock (it drains about 5 - 8% on idle, which seems bad for me atleast).
Agreed - it's not the final build and all but since there's no Xposed or a custom kernel available, I'm kinda stuck with stock.
I don't wanna downgrade either for the sake of battery as I simply love what Google had done with Nougat!
That's why I am considering a custom ROM [emoji12]

The unofficial nougat is quite good, as I'm also have similar usage behavior and the idle drain is OK. I don't use greenify and amplify anymore cause doze in nougat works even better then introduced in MM where I used it to get better behavior even with doze.

Bad battery life / new OP8Pro / 5-6h SOT / Tips?

Hi y'all,
bought my first OnePlus ever a week ago but I get like 5 hours of Screen On Time, while I saw here on xda people getting even 10 hours with 120 Hz.
Running latest stock ROM, not rooted because I actually don't need root.
FHD+ 120Hz, no AOD.
Factory reset done, Wipe Cache done.
I'm not gaming, using my phone for Chrome, WhatsApp and Social Media (not 24/7).
Any tips for me?
I kinda do like the phone and may keep it, but I hate to say that my 3 years old P20 Pro still gets 6-8h SOT. I know, display is better on 8Pro but still...
I dont have a problem installing custom ROM and custom Kernel if that's gonna get me towards those 8+ hours SOT.
If installing custom ROM, I still need my banking apps working/safe, if that's maybe not the case.
Thanks!
Stay on latest OOS, root and use a custom kernel

But with root my Banking Apps may not work right? Paypal/Crypto/etc. may not work or be safe either or?
I already tried debugging with GSAM Battery Monitor and noticed that Google Play Services wakes the device pretty often but somehow doesnt use much % Power. Google Play Services has also the highest Sensor Time of all apps.
Any tips on that one?
And also, which Kernel? Bluspark?
Turn auto brightness off if on; then set brightness low.... See if it helps.

I don't use auto brightness and I use brightness at like 35-45%. So that shouldn't be an issue either. Thanks for the tip though.

Just got the 8 Pro also ... brand new. Noticing battery drain as well. I lost 10 % overnight. Are you seeing similar drain?

It will take few days to settle up but still, with stock OOS it was bad.
I flashed LineageOS + Magisk + Radioactive Kernel and I am still testing it out but it doesnt seem to be much better than stock. Maybe a bit but no way of reaching 8 hours SOT.
I'd suggest try something else and report here, so I can test it out too.
I was thinking of testing PixelExperience and/or Stock rooted OOS with custom Kernel but I'll give a LineageOS a chance 2-3 days more.

Thanks. I just installed Omega Kernel and that seems to have made a slight difference.
Do you use AccuBattery by chance? My estimated capacity is 3855 mAh ~ design capacity is reading correct @ 4510 mAh. Not sure how accurate this is, but it would mean that the battery isn't what it should be or received a used device / defective battery?

How can you flash Havoc | Custom Roms without TWRP? Where can I find Havoc? I didn't see in the custom ROMS / Kernels section.

How's Havoc battery life after a day? I added Naptime and am using the Magisk Module GMS Doze. My overnight drain dropped from 10% to 7%, which is still way too high. I am using xXx No Limits as well.

I haven't set my phone fully yet because i wanted to try the Rom out. I have now "only" Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Discord and few smaller apps logged in but that's it. I don't know about standby drain but I'm now at 51% battery with 4hours screen on which means it's better but still no chance of reaching 10 hours. 7 hours should be reachable right now
Black theme, black walpaper .
If you don't use bluetooth, wifi, nfc disable them .Enable when you use them.
Uninstall or at least disable apps you don't use.
