twrp not flashing - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

so i know my pc is recognizing my device in the attachedpic you can see it shows the correct serial number. Why am i unable to flash twrp unlocked the bootloader after a few tries but no dice with twrp. It says the target file is to large wtf?

Wrong thread.

1st of all I don't think, this thread should be here! It should be In Q & A...
2ndly, give the information about your device bro! Which model are you on!
Check out if you are using the right TWRP for your phone! the problem of exceeding the size happens only when u chose wrong trwp image to flash!

As mentioned before: what's exactly the version of the twrp.img you're trying to flash.
Please download the latest version of twrp for your device here https://twrp.me/motorola/motorolamotogplus2016.html
There are also instructions too.
You can provide us the console output here too(code) or within pastebin if you wish.

Bootloader
Twrp official 3.1.1.0 athene is the version im trying to flash. Its strange on my one plus devices i was able to unlock bootloader side load trwp and root no problem for some reason my moto does not want to play nice.
So now i get greeted with the nasty your device is unsafe because of the unlocked bootloader but i cant flash the official twrp and i thought getting the bootloader code was going to be hard.

Did you try to download the twrp.img again? Maybe your file is corrupted in any way. Original twrp image should be around 12 mb, your screenshot says something like 17mb.
https://twrp.me/motorola/motorolamotogplus2016.html
This is the correct download location for Moto G4/G4 Plus (Athene) devices.
And you could try to flash the recovery via Flashify from the Playstore.

Yes, check your twrp image and try again. Because one time I accidentally flashed twrp for other Device in my device then I got that error. Download the fresh copy of twrp and try to flash it

Twrp download corrupted, anyone have working twrp.IMG?

I was looking to root my moto g 4th gen. I already got the bootloader unlocked. I went here to download twrp on my computer https://dl.twrp.me/athene/ I download it and when I execute the following command in fastboot:
Fastboot flash recovery twrp.IMG (I rename the twrp file I downloaded so it wouldn't be as long) and it says it is corrupt. I also tried double clicking on the .IMG file in Windows to see if it will allow me to open it and windows tells me the IMG file is corrupt also. I tried downloading it a few times and it always gave the same error.
Does anyone have twrp-3.0.2-0-athene.img that isn't corrupted since the one on the twrp website won't work? Or maybe someone has an older version that will work?
Thanks!
That's the exact error? If you flash it and it says writing then says it's not signed it still flashed . Re flash it and without exiting bootloader scroll up to recovery mode and click it and then let me know what happens

It should give you that error if you try to open it with Windows. Are you sure when you renamed it you didn't name it twrp.img.img? I ask because I've done that before.

I'm pretty sure everyone is getting that error message when attempting to flash TWRP. Try going into Recovery Mode anyway.
I was have the same issue so in fast boot I just booted into twrp
Code:
fastboot boot twrp.img
I then installed SU and booted the phone.
At this point I had root, so I downloaded an App called Flashify (for root users) from the app store.
I created a backup of recovery then I used it to flash the TWRP image I had download.
This worked like a charm for me.

Why not, put your phone into fastboot mode, download this https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24572369242689023 (Thanks to RootJunky aka Tom!) and extract the file, right click and run 1-Root-Moto-G-4th-Gen bat file that roots and installs twrp?
Works without any errors.

Greetings joemossjr...
I have to thank you very, very much, even though it's 4 years later
After doing the flash of TWRP, I followed the instructions you posted about going up to the Bootloader and voila! It actually booted into TWRP
Thank you again

Can anyone help me fix my Axon 7.

I tried to unlock my phone (A2017G) and flash lineage OS today following Controllerboys guide, but must have done something wrong, I managed to unlock it and flash the bootstack, but I hit an error when trying to flash LOS and so decided to reboot the system and try again, however when rebooting the system I got the error "Your device software can't be checked for corruption, Please lock the bootloader". And I cant seem to access TWRP anymore just the stock recovery.
Is there a way that I can just flash stock OS and be able to use my phone?

That's not an error message, it's the unlocked bootlaoder screen. get used to it, you're gonna see it every time you reboot
You probably didn't flash the Universal Bootloader. You didn't even read. You should install TWRP again with axon7tool, then get there and flash the Universal Bootloader, then the A2017G modem, the the ROM. If that doesn't work just download MiFlash and the latest G package and flash it

Corrupted recovery, no o/s, what to do now?

I have a Axon 7 A2017U, bootloader unlocked. My recovery is corrupted after attempting to flash a older version of TWRP in recovery. I can no longer reboot into TWRP via recovery, it hangs at the ZTE powered by screen. I can't boot into the o/s, it too was corrupted while attempting to restore to stock using the DrakenFX's guide.
Booting into fastboot is a no go either, it just hangs at bootloader screen.
Any suggestions on where to go from here or how to fix the corrupted recovery?
You need to go into EDL mode and use MiFlash and flash a back to stock package. You can find a package here: https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=160532
Hello maybe i have same problem here. I have A2017G and maybe i have only woked unlocked bootloader. I dont think my EDL is working becouse i cant connect with ADB. Dont have any acces to recovery... i messed up step by step remember.
1. downloaded toolkit and woked fine - 2 installed drivers and working fine with EDL. 3 unlocked with no problems , 4 flashed TWRP with no problems and then i wanted to install lineage os. Downloaded last version lineage , and google apps and one file "A2017G_N_Modem.zip" and put all 3 files on my SD card. I wipe everything and then first installed modem file OK, but on second try with Lineage OS i have any errors and i just cant continue. After this i wanted to go back to original OS and i just locked my bootloader with axon toolkit and after restart i have acces only to Unlocked Bootloader. tryed everithing with axon7toolkit but nothing working. If i try to EDL mode when press volumeUP+volumeDOWN+power my phone have black screen and i thing is powered OFF.
OMFG i just typed "fastboot oem unlock" 5-6 time when i started phone to my bootloaders and now it unlocked and have acces to my TWRP.

Thanks, I flashed it with A2017U_B19-NOUGAT_FULL_EDL and was able to flashed twrp recovery. I was hoping the o/s would be fixed too but I get this error message as soon as o/s load "settings keeps stopping, close app". It appears it's a bad or incorrect stock file. I had to format data in TWRP recovery as the drive was encrypted. So now i'm back at square one.
Bad o/s but working recovery, so I attempted to flash these files to get back to stock but was unsuccessful. It would flash halfway and then just restarts and hung at the bootloader unlock screen.
A2017UV1.0.0B29_RollBackModded.zip
A2017UV1.1.0B32_bootstack_by_DrakenFX.zip
A2017UV1.1.0B32_StockSystem_by_DrakenFX.zip
Am I on the right track? Or should I be flashing with a different os variant?

So you didn't read all of the hurdles and warnings about locking the bootloader with non-stock firmware?
Plus you also didn't find out about the Universal Bootloader? Did you even read the installation steps???
You had an error 7, which is that you forgot to install the Universal Bootloader. Do so this time.
EDL has nothing to do with ADB. You can access it with the phone completely off... (volume up and down, and insert usb)

Help! stuck post unlocking bootloader

So i was just following the instructions from this page https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/flox/install, was able to unlock the bootloader of my nexus 7 device. Now at this point i didnt know my device codename, i thought it was flox but i just noticed on the bootloader page it says deb. [Im a noob..guilty]
Now the 2nd step was no biggie either, i was able to flash twrp recovery, but somehow it was not working as i was keep getting error 1 and vendor invalid argument when i tried to flash the lineage 18.1 zip.
The recovery img i tried were
lineage-18.1-20211018-recovery-flox.img
twrp-3.4.0-0-deb.img
twrp-3.5.0_9-0-flox.img
twrp-3.5.2_9-0-flo.img
twrp-3.5.2_9-0-flo_followmsi.img
Now after flashing twrp recoveries i was getting the problem of not able to flash the LOS 18.1 rom file, plus if i would format the device and then try to reboot the device back to recovery i would get an error with android logo collapsed [check the image]
what am i doing wrong? plz help.
I sense its repartitioning process? also i am not sure if i did an EFS Persists back up.
so if someone can give a walkthrough. would be very greatful _/\_
thanks again
Was your device rooted? Start it in to recovery mode, go to "Mount". And see if you could chose system directory. If not, that means TWRP can't access system directory and will not be able to flash any custom ROM until you sort root permissions.
Edit: Sorry just now noticed that you can't get in to recovery mode anymore. Connect your device to computer and use Nexus Root Toolkit to flash TWRP recovery.
