Nokia 6 - Automatically Restarting - where to find system logs - Nokia 6 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I find my Nokia 6 (International version) automatically restarting occasionally. This seems to happen without any apparent reason. Is there any place where I can check the system logs or something that can tell me what caused the reboot / restart?
Many thanks,
Bala

My North American Nokia 6 has done this a couple of times too. It seems to be somehow tied to an incoming text message.

Thanks! So far, I have been unable to track it down to any specific activity...

[Q] apps auto update problem on mango 7.5....?

i have focus sim unlocked on att. i don't have any problem in installing apps from market place but i am not getting auto updates for apps. when i search for any app that i already installed , apps that are having updates it shows up and when i click update it updates. but itz painful and time consuming in searching for the updates that i already installed. do any one having similar issue? if there is a solution for this please leave a post. thanks in advance
I'm also having this issue and need help for a solution as well!!
The explanation is simple: the available bandwidth is the same while the number of phones and app checks has increased.
So, this not actually an issue, this happens. If you're mainly using 3G connection, this is to be expected.
3G connection is sensibly slower than WiFi and the number of apps has gone past 30k, thus some checks will time out.
It is recommended that you use USB/WiFi connection to sync from time to tome to prevent this happening very often.
I doubt that's the problem.
My girlfriend also has a Samsung Focus (updated to mango), and we have some of the same apps/games...when one has an update on her phone the marketplace tile alerts her, but mine doesn't show anything unless I search for the app in the market and check it, then it tells me there's an update, not sure what to do.
definitely a big issue... it has been a month since my marketplace has stopped showing any app update already. The updates are there when I manually search for it. It was fine for the past 9 months until now.
Weird thing is both my girlfriend and me are using unbranded Optimus 7, same carrier, same account/phone settings. but she keeps getting new update alert almost everyday, which I did not, even for the same apps.
Tried connected via 3d/wifi/usb all day long, tried guessing and uninstalling app which maybe conflicting, etc... none helped.
anybody else find a fix yet? please share
Still no luck...
Maybe its because I did the force update to Mango (my girlfriend didn't to that and hers works fine) so I have a bad feeling it was because of that, and no one seems to have a solution. I've reset my phone, re-installed apps, etc.

Android 5.0.1 Changes

While there are several threads announcing the release of Android 5.0.1, in regard to the Nexus 6, most of them seem to be filled with posts relating to the availability, instructions for sideloading, etc.
This thread is to discuss the CHANGES that you have noticed between 5.0 and 5.0.1, and as this is the Nexus 6 section, it should really relate to changes on that device only. You may list changes you've personally noticed, or published changes, but please indicate the source. I, like many of you, no doubt, am very curious to see what is new, fixed, broken, etc.
http://aosp.changelog.to/aosp-LRX21V-LRX22C.html
On 5.0 I kept having the cloud print service or whatever keep crashing, on 5.0.1 I had the Amazon kindle app keep showing a notification Amazon kindle stopped for about 12 hours and had to reboot my phone. (Kept throwing the notification up about every 20 minutes on 5.0.1)
My phone has also been unable to chromecast netflix for the last week and I have to use my gf's nexus 6 to chromecast netflix. Weird little problems with applications on both operating systems.
Edit: Finally re-installed netflix and it fixed chromecasting.
It would be nice to see a list of changes (In language a typical person speaks rather than the jumbled mess that those AOSP changes look like)
I agree. Those AOSP changes are not that easy to understand. Also, they are just to the Android Operating System but doesn't the OTA also contain a new Modem and possibly other driver updates that would fix other issues with our phones? Those fixes and changes would not be in the AOSP list.
On a second note, why does Google do this? They obviously know whats changed. How hard is it to publish a simple list?
Is 5.0.1 fixing the slow text/multiple texts sent issue for Sprint users? People are getting my texts like 10 times quite frequently, I read somewhere that this version fixes that.

It doesn't.
Hell, I'm on AT&T and have the slow text issue. It'll stay stuck on "sending" for 3-4 minutes sometimes. Not sure if it sends multiple times or not, haven't had anyone complain to me that they got the same message several times.
I think I saw there is a new radio... Would be interested to know if signal reception is any better

On 5.0 I could not connect to my company’s Wi-Fi (it would show as ‘Saved’ but no connection).
On 5.0.1 I have no issues connecting to the same Wi-Fi.

Work around AP misbehavior on EAPOL-Key descriptor version
It looks like some APs are incorrectly selecting descriptor version 3
(AES-128-CMAC) for EAPOL-Key frames when version 2 (HMAC-SHA1) was
expected to be used. This is likely triggered by an attempt to negotiate
PMF with SHA1-based AKM.
Since AES-128-CMAC is considered stronger than HMAC-SHA1, allow the
incorrect, but stronger, option to be used in these cases to avoid
interoperability issues with deployed APs.
This issue shows up with "WPA: CCMP is used, but EAPOL-Key descriptor
version (3) is not 2" in debug log. With the new workaround, this issue
is ignored and "WPA: Interoperability workaround: allow incorrect
(should have been HMAC-SHA1), but stronger (is AES-128-CMAC), descriptor
version to be used" is written to the log.

I'm seriously noticing my battery is better then it was yesterday before I flashed 5..0.1 I was roughly 34%, which was not really bad, after 12 hours of my normal use. Today, 50%, same time as yesterday. I will keep an eye on it, but thats what I'm seeing. Everything else seems about the same to me.
The issue with the face unlock camera is fixed.

Not sure if it was 501 or the gplay music update, but my music sounds much more clear now. No more cloud print crashes.. Hoping my signal issue was fixed (sprint) but as im deployed right now i only use wifi.
Is anyone else having issues adding an exchange email account using the Gmail app? BTW, I flashed my phone to the stock 5.0.1 (LRX22C) version. After returning to complete stock I rooted and flashed TWRP but the issue was present before I made those changes.

I do hope they've fixed the random reboots and cellular strength. My K version doesn't quite like the UK mobile network(EE/TMobile).

+1 For the SM-N935K Model, not one single reboot, before or after the update.
@ixman
Sounds like you might be using a battery saving app (Greenify,etc...)
If so,I'd run w/o 'em,see if it makes a difference.
Any other "performance" apps in use, that weren't pre installed on the phone?
If no to all of the above,I'd suggest a cache wipe in recovery, followed by a factory reset if that doesn't clear it up.
If those don't do the trick, you may have got a phone with a physical defect, perhaps a loose-connected battery.
The random reboots are a classic symptom of that.
Please keep us posted on your results. :good:

Agreed, not had a single reboot on my K that wasn't initiated by me!
I've just did a cache wipe and factory reset after the last update. Will keep you in the loop if the random reboot returns.
The only "suspect" app would be GSam battery monitor pro, but I didn't had any issues with it on my Note 7.
I love the phone but it does have some annoying issues. Here in UK when I'm out of 4G area even if the phone shows 3G the data connection is very poor or non existent. I do have the correct APN settings from my provider. Also the maximum data transfer is nowhere near my iPhone 7 plus(Qualcomm chip). I expect more from a CAT12 modem.
One the flip side the GPS is very strong and the call quality/signal is perfect. Strange.
I would be interested to know from other UK users how their K model behaves.

My FE took forever to reboot after the update. No issues now with reboots now. Be careful with Adhell, i did something wrong and did not reboot.

I didn't realize you were having reboot issues, you're the 2nd person to report that here @ XDA.
Glad the update seems to have taken care of that for you.
As for AdHell,I'm glad another developer has shown interest in such an app.
It's been updated a couple times already, should continue to improve/offer more features.
One advantage Package Disabler Pro has is the Google search shortcut ,so those like myself can get a better understanding of what all of those background system apps do & make a better informed decision on what's bloat & what should be left alone.
Neither will work on a rooted device, that's when I use SD Maid Pro,it has the disabling option that works only on rooted devices (among many other assorted tasks that work on both rooted & unrooted devices to varying degrees).
interesting about the reboot issues... none here before or after flashing the full AQG2 ROM. changing my CSC to ATT's version used on the S8+ (after installing AQG2, TWRP and Root) and factory resetting afterwards removed a lot of the Korean apps, enabled a different set of roaming options and, provided access to a lot of features that's available on the S8.now, The only disabled app is SecurityLogAgent.apk. Knox is still present, but not activated. i've never taken time to debloat for fear of screwing up something. what am i missing?

You can take out all of Knox - most custom ROMs do that as a matter of course. The only apps that affect the device if you uninstall them are Chrome and Samsung voice input(!) - but disabling them is OK.
Found the update contains an updated Play Store app v11, which installs Play Protect. I don't use Play Store - and definitely have no use for spyware protection from Googz that I cannot control - so I've reverted to the original stock until more is known about GPP. No loss: the update provides no advance the I can see.

All background apps are killed since 7.1.2 update

I'm having massive problems with my Nokia 5. Since the 7.1.2 update the phone is not keep any background apps in memory. Switching between apps always causes the app to reload from scratch.
This behaviour goes away and the phone works correctly if I reboot the handset. But after an hour or so the problem returns, which leads me to think that it's a bug.
Multi-tasking isn't possible. Background tasks such as Google photo uploads, play store downloads and WhatsApp backups only occur if the apps are on screen , or until the phone is restarted.
I've tried a factory reset, but it hasn't helped. The phone would keep at least 5-6 apps in memory prior to the 7.1.2 update.
Edit: November Security Update did not fix the problem.
Edit 2: Clearing the cache partition from recovery (as suggested in the thread) does not fix the problem.
Edit 3: The problem unfortunately remains in the Oreo Beta / December Security update. For me, it takes longer for it to become a major issue following a restart than it did on 7.1.2, but after approx 18 hours of use the handset is unable to keep any apps running in the background.
Yes. This is a known issue. I rolled back to 7.1.1 version because of this. Hopefully November's patch will fix everything up (I have doubts about that, because Nokia's support is the worst I've seen. They say it's just a 7.1.2 bug, not their problem). I guess it should come out in the upcoming week, as some of the variants of Nokia 6 received updates today.
Have to keep enabling Bluetooth which is a pita

I carefully followed these steps to install original ROM: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/development/nokia-6-official-firmware-mena-region-t3664441
Later I just reinstalled all the updates upto September's (the usual way, officially).
But I do not recommend doing that for you can brick your phone (if something's done incorrectly (I had a bit of prior knowledge)) and 100% chance of loosing all the files and data on your phone (you can back that up)
If November's patch doesn't fix it, then, if I were you I would do that. Although.. Nokia Beta Labs should soon release Oreo Beta update for Nokia 5. Just instead of sending feedback about stuff, you could use that software as daily ROM without, most likely, that bug.

Apparently, November's update has been released. Maybe someone could install it ASAP and tell if the problem's fixed?

The problem is NOT fixed, it just goes away temporarily after a restart.
After installing the November update on my Nokia 5, it appeared to be working, but 6 hours later and the phone is no longer keeping any apps in memory again.
The November Security update has not fixed the problem.

I' ve got the update more than 24 hours and apps aren't really killed by switching them. I've just tried to reboot the phone and apss still remains in memory. So for me, the problem was fixed!

That's because a reboot fixes the problem for a short time. When I reboot my phone the apps are retained in memory, but after a few hours of use the phone starts to kill the background apps. Rebooting the phone fixes the problem. Again, but it soon returns.
The November Security update did not include a patch or bug fix for this problem, and the problem remains on my handset (others at the Nokia community forums have also confirmed that the problem remains with the November update).
Ok. Just for curiosity. Whoever still has this issue, please write you exact Nokia 5 model (mine for example is TA-1053).
Fun thing. After I reinstalled the ROM, I had to use October's patch for couple (like 7-8) hours (November's patch was late for me). The problem did not appear for me. Now, I'm using November for almost 24 hours, did a couple of restarts, I don't get that problem. So this reinstall helped me.
Also, I was little dramatic about reinstall. If you do not do factory reset, files are not deleted. Nothing changes, just the ROM. You won't even realise.
Hi guys. I have the same problem with my Nokia 5 TA-1024. AND PLEASE TALK ON THIS FORUM ALSO FOR NOKIA TA-1024 NOT ONLY FOR TA-1053
Thank you. Also i found out on one forum how to downgrade but im not sure if it works with ta-1024
The tutorial I linked earlier works with all models.
Ta 1053 with November update and factory reset. Multitasking doesn't exist anymore.
I've uploaded a couple of videos to show the issue on my Nokia 5 (TA-1024). The phone has been updated to the November Security update, and has also been factory reset.
I initially thought that the November update had fixed the issue, but after around 6-8 hours of use, the problem resurfaced, which is why I have captured it on video. Hopefully somebody at HMD will take notice of it.
The first video is after 6-8 hours of use. The phone is no longer able to keep apps in memory, you will notice that the apps almost always reload from scratch when multi-tasking:
https://youtu.be/KU7BlSOyLdQ
The second video shows how the phone behaves directly after a restart. All apps are retained in memory, but the problem unfortunately comes back after a few hours of use.

I've sent a video to the support. Still no response. They responded me about later issue I wrote to them.
And yes. Warranty stays. It's not a custom ROM, nor it's a root. It's official ROM.

"Searching for Android Wear updates" notifications

hello,
as the title says, i get these notifications all day long..
they appear for half a second and are gone before i can click on them.
the attached notification log shows that they pop up in irregular intervals, sometimes several times a minute.
i tried to disconnect and reset the watch, but the issue remains.
the problem came up just recently, but i didn't notice any updates.
any ideas what i can do?
watch: misfit vapor (fossil brand), android 8.0, wear os 1.5 (idk why it's not labled 2.something anymore, but it's definitely not the old 1.5 without playstore and so on..)
phone: sony xperia x compact, android 8.0
seems like a secomd reset made it a bit better.. now i get the notifications about 20 times a day..
what can that be? how often is normal?
could someone please check his log?
to get access you might have to enable developer options, then place a homescreen widget for settings -> notifications log
nobody?
xda isn't what it used to be...
I noticed the same. I belive it started after recent update of Google Wear.
I just installed Notification Saver app (my phone does not have notifation log option) and will revert back once I collect some information...

But today a lot more (attached picture)!
This is not normal...
thanks for the info, so it's a google problem.
i reported it now via the feedback button in the wear os app and i suggest you do the same.
hopefully they fix this soon..

I just did - although today it had only checked twice (so far), let's see...
yesterday i had about 70 checks..
it's so annoying an i think it's also draining the battery..
