Yes i also mentioned it

i believe it happens to some earphone with mic. i have more than 3 headphones, two work perfect with oneplus 5, the other i have to try plug and pull out a little bit then test.
You may try other headphones ~
if you like your headphone pretty much, you may try type-c/3.5mm converter (especially the one from HTC), the quality of both record/listening is super good.

So, if I'm not wrong, using any type-c/3.5mm converter (especially the one from HTC), improves the input and output sound quality of every 3.5mm headphone jack+microphone on the Oneplus 5?
So, if I buy a cheap type-c/3.5mm converter and I plug it in my Oneplus 5, then the sound coming of the headphone will always be improved?
Regardless of the Headphone brand and specs? And as a bonus, there will never be any compatibility issues like with the microphones or with the headphone control buttons?
These converters sound magical.
Did anyone try one on a 1+5 yet?

The dongle and the headphones have to be high spec for good performance. But the op5 jack Is better than most phones like the s8. Watch Juan's real audio review

I know that the Jack on the OnePlus 5 is supposed to be really good.
The problem though is the microphone of my headphones which either do not work well or do not work at all on this phone.
And I'm talking about headphones that work with no problems at all on any other devices I possess.
I never thought that Oneplus would implement a proprietary 3.5mm jack on its phones, but it would seem they did.

No , No..the headphone jack is not proprietary, it just comes with different qualities, kinda like a micro usb port with usb 2 or usb 3. Same port just better hardware

HD2 headset quality?

For the people who got the HD2, how do u think about the headset quality, compare to the iphone's one?
The review from gsmarena said that the quality is quite bad, so I'm a bit worried
yes, the headset it is a complete bull****, but why dont use another good pair?
I had a very good pair already, but I would like to use the voice and the music control function of the default headset, too bad though

You can buy the advanced cable, controls but with a 3.5" input at the end to connect your own headphones, it cost about 25€ on htc website

Dude, I had no idea there were music control buttons on the default set, I never took it out of the box as I assumed they'd be crap anyway, and I have a much better set. Hmmm, I'll have to figure out how to get the good earpieces on the crappy set with the nice controls on it

If the iPhone cable for this headset is one with a minijack with four connector points, it'll work in the HD2 as well.
I actually thought the enclosed headphones had the best sound I've heard from a set included with a Htc device..
but that doesn't really say much does it
It's a pity that the media controls are on the wire and that HTC decided to not give us the option to plug our own buds in.
The included headset is a joke. Don't even bother your time with it. Even with £250 earphones the HD2 audio quality is a still a joke. It has a very digitized sounding DSP (similar to most recent Nokias) and nowhere near as good as the analogue sounding iphone or a decent dedicated DAP. It sounds strikingly similar to the Blackberry Bold but with slightly rougher treble. There is distinct bass roll and the sound is more hollow than full.
That being said with Audio Booster things take a step in the right direction. WIth some adjustments it sounds better (not as good as the 3GS mind). Lower treble can be tamed and lower bass beefed up. It still has a sligtly hollow digital feel to it but better than before. I don't particularly like using s/w EQ's but in the case of the HD2 I have no choice. Again, all this is using the stock HTC Media Player and not say other music software as I really like (more like need) the facility of being able to jack out my earphones and not have the music switch to playing through the speaker (similar to iphone and Bold).
So far I've tested audio capabilities with Westone UM3X's and Klipsch X10's and will try out some others later but as things stand currently I'm a bit disappointed the sound quality isn't on at least par with the 3gs. I would easily go back to the iphone but the HD2 other than it's musical properties has very strong appeal and I like all-in-one devices so I may very well end up keeping this damned HD2 as it does hold a few tasty trump cards!!

Recon the iPhone 3GS headphones will work with the controls?
tbh while i think there not pro grade. they playback well enough. I think only if your a real audio buff will you notice. one might argue MP3 quality has a lot to do with it.

Will a portable amp Improve the headphone quality?

Probably the most stupidest question out there but just wondering..
Since a lot of people are saying that the headphone quality is meh will a portable amp improve the quality?
crap in, crap out
amplifying a crap headphone out (if it is crap to you where you think a seperate amp should be used) will result in a crap result
if the usb has a line out, that might be of some use....does it? I'd be interested to know
An amp with its own DAC, like the Fiio E18 for example, would improve the sound quality. I've not used mine since I got my Exynos S7 though, the sound quality sounds good enough.

portable amps don't utilize the 3.5mm jack. And yes, a portable amp will improve the quality. If you have the snapdragon version, then you'd want a portable dac/amp combo.

For me, listening at my desk at work in a fairly quiet environment, the sound quality and volume levels are absolutely fine. I used to have to use my E18 with my Note 4 all the time as the sound quality was really bad, especially noticeable as I had an M8 before that, but I've not used the E18 at all since I got the S7.

Which headphones are you Using??
I'm using a Pair of UE 900 (UVP 399€ quad-driver in-ear-monitors), and i have no problems, of deficites. I used an htc one m8 before, and i dont really notice a worse soundquality.
Sure, if you really try hard enough and compare then like you want to dissect it, you might find differences.
But like i said, i have no Problems there. The Output impedance is low enough with almost 2 Ohm, soundquality, and output Power is really enough (i can not listen to 100% Volume, it's just way too loud for me).
Of course, you'll ha ve to decide that yourself, maybe you have much better in-ears / headphones, and have much higher, more audiophile standards.
(but, if you dont dissect your music, but just want to enjoy listening, it's totally fine)

Are there any of these cutting edge features in S8?

1. Micro-SD card slots - Is it UHS-1 (100mbps)or UHS-2(150mbps)?
2. Quick Charge/Adaptive Fast Charging - Looks like it's still QC- 2.0 since stock charger is having same rating as the one in S6 edge or 3.0 (so far only 6 phones are supported) or 4.0 (announced by qualcomm officially today) ?
3. Have any one tried type-c headphones - any improvements over 3.5mm if it works.
4. There are rumors that Camera sensor uses Sony IMX333 capable of 1000fps.
4. As far as I know the only Sony sensor capable of 1000FPS is IMX400 and it's 19MP. It has extra memory build inside sensor and ours doesn't, so no.
3. I'm not sure what kind of improvement can one expect from headphones connected to USB C, so please enlighten me, just don't quote some BS Apple's advert.

3.5 mm headphones can introduce noise which usb type c would not. Also if the headphones have a built in dac better then the one in the phone they could easily sound better. I personally enjoy the tuned by akgs but made by Samsungs though.

I am not sure, but I thought I readed that there was a DAC, which was even improved so it could process 32bit audio? Don't pin me on this, but from what I can say, the music sounds in comparison of my old S6:
1: Way better, clearer.
2: More loudness.

The only way I can think of the noise being introduced on 3.5mm jack is induction on the analog wire connection which should be fixed with shielded wire. Now, are you trying to compare some cheap analog headphones that don't even have shielded wire, with digital headphones with build in expensive DAC?

Okay but even if it has a built in dac it could be better. I never had usb headphones at all. I don't plan on buying any either because I like to be able to keep the usb port open. I doubt there is any reason I would actually come up with that would make it seem like a worthwile purchase for me.
USB headphones are possible with the Galaxy S8. I have used my fairly inexpensive PC USB headset with the Galaxy S8 using the included USB C to USB A adapter, and it works flawlessly. The only use I have found for this is that I can leave the headset plugged into the port on the bottom of the GearVR that way once the phone is in the headset it's simultaneously connected to the headphones and without the lag that Bluetooth headphones may introduce.
On 4 - they use imx400 only in Korean version with 6gb ram, but the 960fps(not 1000) is not avaible for Samsung, its Sony's trick
About QC, i have s6 edge and my roommate have s7 edge, the s8 is charging faster even with bigger battery, idk if its 3.0 or 4.0 or whatever, but its faster than the s6 and s7

any benefits to USB C headphones?

Just watching the htc u11 coverage and the noise cancelling type c headphones. Would it increase the experience on devices like the axon 7 when we've still got a headphone jack ?

shouldn't it be the same? I don't think there would be a difference besides the noise cancelling. Maybe those headphones get the power for that stuff from the USB but some noise cancelling 3.5mm with battery should be the same...?
Otherwise the only way I can think of to test if they're better or worse is by modding them so that the noise cancel is off, and test with USB-C then put them a 3.5 jack and test them too.
But you won't be able to charge, for what it's worth
Please correct me if I'm wrong, I probably am anyways
The audio wouldn't use the device's amp and dac and so the audio could be better on phones with really bad dacs and amps but on phones like the Axon 7 and LG v20 then the audio would most likely be worse.
You get an audio that is the same and more objective across devices because the headphones uses its own dac and amp, so the headphones can be better tuned by the manufacturer because your player no longer matter. Also, the power supply from type-c enables active noise cancelling without battery such as JBL reflect aware c, HTC usonic of U11, Xiaomi active noise cancelling earphones.
However, senny is probably correct as usb-c earphones may not use high end dac and amp.
Dac's are only connected to 3,5mm jack, stereo speakers and probably to microphone (to be confirmed) so there will be no Dolby features with type c headphones.
There one advantage - if you have active noice cancelation they can be powered via USB type c the same time you keep using it.

With the excellent DAC/AMP and audio capabilities of the Axon 7, I don't really see the benefit of USB-C headphone. And as I'm nor sure if the USB-C headphones would bypass the built in DAC/AMP it may be worse, I don't know. Either way I don't really see an advantage. Of course you loose the ability to listen to music while charging.
If Audeze comes out with a USB-C version of their Cipher cable that has a built in DAC/AMP tuned for their specific headphones (EL-8, Sine, iSine), then that might actually be worth getting. But as of yet the Cipher cables is Apple Lightning port only and their headphone are expensive audiophile grade headphones.

If USB-C becomes they way things go for headphone audio, which remains to be seen, you'll have a range of choices of various price point. Only those that want truely steller audio will spend a "fortune", just as it is now.

Eh, I don't know. If you refering to a high quality DAC/AMP like whats in the Axon 7 maybe not cheap but not a fortune either. But most phones have a mediocre audio out put in comparison. I sometimes use headphones with an $15 external Mpow Bluetooth receiver that delivers more power then my other phones (Nexus 6P & LG G5). There's always the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that the few phones that don't offer a headphone jack come with. Of course lets not forget most devices still bring a headphone jack, and hopefully it will stay that way for a while.
At any rate as far as the original question posed in this thread, a USB-C headphones will not really being anything to the table as far as the Axon 7 is concerned as it has one of the top headphone jacks currently available.
Until someone offers a very high quality USB-C pair of headphones that can outperform the A7's built in solution it's not needed. Even if and when something like that becomes available it only for you average user, but those who really really care about their audio and are willing to pay for every last bit of it.
I just don't see it costing a fortune, unless you want REALLY REALYY good audio, pretty much as is the case today.

Usb-c to 3.5mm earphone adapter.

Hello everybody.
I would like to buy an adapter from usb-c to 3.5mm earphone plug. I see it is a little bit more complicated than I thought- There are adapters with DAC chip, without a chip, others won't fit Samsung, etc.
I just want an adapter because of the lack of 3.5mm socket and keep listening music like I did so far. I would like to have the option to use this plug with none-Samsung phones ,too.
What kind of adapter and brands do you recommend to buy ?
Thanks in advance,
Arye

I'm not surprised, given that it's 10x the price of the Samsung one!
Samsung's is flimsy... it doesn't inspire longevity confidence.
The great Samsung flagship missing 3.5 mm jack fubar continues... lame.

Presumably because it does not incorporate a DAC. The only adaptors that work with the Note 10+ are those with a DAC in them.

Presumably because it does not incorporate a DAC. The only adaptors that work with the Note 10+ are those with a DAC in them.

Yeah it's tricky. Worse no clue how good that one is.
It was much better with a known internal phone DAC and the 3.5 mm jack. The Note 4 was a better audio platform. WTF?
Samsung really dropped the ball Special Olympics style...
Whatever the dongle DAC is I doubt it's a 32 bit Burr-Brown. Ha!
