Anyone knows why my messsages get deleted after restoring data from titanium b up? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Guides, News, & Discussion

Came from an unofficial LineageOS, then moved to the official one, before that I backed up apps+system data through titanium backup. I managed to restore everything (even contacts) successfully, except for messages. When I restore them (data only), and open the messaging app, I see all my messages for a second, then they eventually get deleted.
I found someone who has the same issue, but I de-google'd mine. So i don't have hangouts. https://android.stackexchange.com/q...es-with-titanium-restores-then-deletes#126246

Backup, upgrade and ... how to restore?

Hi all,
I just tried upgrading to cyanogenmod 2.1 - SUCCESS (thanks to this forum )
but now the next problem has presented itself... is it possible to restore my backup (more specific: text messages)?
I made a nandroid backup, and after I got to 2.1 I restored... and it did a good job, I got back to the original 1.6.
So put all this information in one question: is it possible to backup + restore my personal settings (text messages) without restoring the firmware?
Or is the backupfunction just a "I just f***ed up my phone"-lifeline?
Thanks
I see that you said you restored back to 1.6 fine using nandroid - have you checked to see if you still have your messages OK? If not then they are probably gone for good. Cant remember if you get messages back with Nandroid, as I have used BART the last couple of times which definitely included messages.
If that worked and you still have your messages, you need to use a backup app and backup those items prior to flashing 2.1, then you can just restore the messages.
I use MyBackUp Pro (there is a full test version that lasts 30 days so would probably be good for a one off demo - but is worth paying for full version as per my explanation) - it allows you to back up all apps incl their data, plus a lot of the paid apps and their data too under the app backup option; and then they also have a data backup option which allows you to backup things like contacts, sms, your home pages etc. Of course you can choose to back up all or pick individual items and its the same for restore.
This is very useful when wiping the phone, as you restore your apps backup first, then restore your data backup - thus it will also install all the widgets as the apps are already loaded - if you do it the other way around your widgets wont work and you will have to remove them from the home screen and then put them back again.

[Q] Strange backup/restore behavior. Stock G2 -> CM6 -> Stock -> CM6

I had something strange happen with the Messaging app, so I may as well list every step I took in case one of them was important.
TL;DR: I backed up "SMS Storage" from stock ROM with Ti Backup then restored it into CM6, but my old messages were still missing. Afterward I backed up and restored CM6 with nandroid and the old messages came back. fix_permissions was used in the middle for unrelated reasons.
I had stock G2 with perma-root and I wanted to try CM6. Without thinking about my apps or their data, I simply did a backup with ROM Manager, wiped and installed CM6. (All in one step. Man, I love ROM Manager!)
When I finally logged into CM6, Android started downloading all the apps I had before. It was then that I realized, "Fuuuuuuuuuck... all my settings and data are gone." I had older backups in Titanium Backup, but I wanted everything to be up to the minute. I also backed up my ADW settings and desktop configuration. Again, what a dream!
I restored my stock ROM backup and used Titanium Backup to backup everything one more time. Then I went through the download, wipe, install process again. It was already downloaded, and ROM Manager was smart enough not to download it again. Nice.
I waited yet again for Android to reinstall all my apps. A couple didn't download right, so I massaged them. I think they had updates with permission changes.
I restored my ADW settings and icons, and launched Titanium Backup. I used the restore screen and the Batch menu option. I clicked on RUN for "Restore All Apps" or whatever, which I knew would prompt me with a giant checkbox list. I unchecked everything and went down the list checking every user app. They were the ones with white text for the most part. If there was a Google system app that I was comfortable restoring, like the data for, say, Goggles, I checked that, too. I didn't check any of the truly system things.
The restore was a success and all my apps functioned beautifully.
I then opened the Messaging app and realized that all my old text messages were missing. Here's where the weirdness more-or-less starts.
I decide to go hunting in Ti Backup to see if I can find the data for the SMS app. I first restored the one with the Messaging app icon, and that managed to restore just my preferences. That made sense afterall, because it was called "[SMS/MMS PREFS] Messaging 2.2.1".
After that I tried restoring the one called "[SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage 2.2.1", thinking that this must be it. No help at all.
I sent a few text messages to one person creating new data.
GPS is broken in CM6, and someone suggested running fix_permissions from the terminal. I did so, and no help with GPS. (But did this maybe fix the SMS data?)
I realized that Swype was missing and someone posted instructions on how to restore it, but you need to be back at stock and pull the files from the stock ROM. (I also could have unzipped the stock rom image, I read later, but anyway...) I restored my old stock backup, ran the ADB commands to pull the files, then restored my CM6 backup I had made just minutes earlier. I use a combination of ADB and Root Explorer to get the files in the right spot and I have Swype again.
I open the first app I can think of to test Swype, and that's Messaging. Bam! All my old messages are back! And my few new ones are now gone!
What's up with that?

Just a note, if android starts reinstalling all of your apps automatically again, that means that you have "back up data to google servers" checked in settings, which means that it will first reinstall your apps, then restore all of their settings and data.

[Q] Titanium backup root - restore error?

I had 4.2 auroro rom and i backed up all apps. Also backup sms, contacts calendar manually.
I installed cwm 4.4.2 and flashed gapps.
But there is no playstore.
With titanum backpro, i tried to restore playstore but it failed. Also i restored calendar and sms, but after seconds they disappeared. I made a lot of times but same. I restored with other app (super backup) calendar and sms but they disappear.
I used gosms pro but i try to restore messaging app data but it seems restoring. After i open application, i can see my sms s then all disappear.
Also same for calendar.
I restored gmail app+data, only data but it can not beopened.
Why are some backups incompatible or am i doing wrong?
Gmail closes as soon as i open and play store also. I downloaded apks but no sense.
I restore gmail and store, i reset them and flash gapps zip but still no sense. They are not opened.
Any suggestion?

trouble restoring call logs and sms/mms messages with titanium backup

i recently switched over to using an s5 because my current phone(lg g3) started to have problems. i made a backup of my call logs and sms/mms messages with titanium backup but i can't get them to restore on the s5. until now, i've never run into a problem restoring this data with titanium backup. i've been able to move my call logs and text messages from one phone to another without any trouble. as a result, my text messages backup is a decent size of 38MB. usually, the call log takes a few seconds to restore and the text messages take about 45 minutes to restore. on the s5, the call log doesn't take long to restore, but nothing shows up in the phone's recent calls list. titanium backup takes about 2 minutes to restore the text messages before it says it's done. also, i don't get the popup asking if i want titanium backup to be the default messaging app. when i open up a messaging app, there's nothing there.
in titanium backup, i checked "migrate system data" when making the backups and also on the s5 before restoring them. that didn't help. the firmware i'm using on the s5 is pb1 rooted and i have the toshiba emmc chip.
any ideas or suggestions on what to do to get titanium backup to restore my call log and text messages?
i figured out how to get titanium backup to restore the call logs and text messages. in supersu, i unchecked the box for "mount namespace separation" and then the tibu restore worked.

Best way to fully backup everything (including SMS)

I haven't clean wiped my phone since taking delivery (March 2016) I'm rooted and have flashed every update up to N4F26J but I'v noticed a drop in battery even running the same kernel. I'd like to factory reset things then just restore apps and SMS. What is the best method to accomplish this? Previously I'd use SS Backup&Restore along with a Titanium Backup but that was a different device and different Andriod version, is there anything more efficient?
Thank you!
Thats what i do. Sms backup & restore by carbonite and titanium backup. Its pretty easy if you have the pro version of TB.
I use Titanium for user Apps and SMS...
g cloud is good if you dont know tit backup. tit backs up everything perfectly if you know how. for sms change your sms app in settings to titanium backup then go in titanium and back up (messages sms&mms) it'll be in yellow text. then you have to go back to your default sms app screen and change it back to hangouts, messenger or whatever you use. then in titanium backup find in settings create update.zip . as long as you dont wipe internal storage youll have your backups.
when restoring a backup change sms app default to [titanium backup] as your default messaging app. then go to in to tit backup and restore the generic looking yellow entry that says [Messages
(sms&mms)] what till its finished restoring. then just change the default messaging app back to hangouts or whatever you use.
you dont back up an sms app like messenger or hangouts because the sms are only read by those apps. their stored in (messages sms&mms) its a location in your phone.

Thats nuts. Ive seen where TB showed up as an sms app but never knew why. I'll definitely switch.
