HTC U11 3.5mm headphone adaptor with built in DAC compatible with Samsung S8? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi
I'm looking at options to get better sound on my S8. Does anyone know if the HTC U11 3.5mm adaptor with the built in DAC will be compatible with the S8 and if it will improve audio listening through spotify?
Has anyone tried this?
The adaptor is only £10 to buy so could be a cheap way to get better audio.
I'm not interested in rooting as I find samsung pay and secure folder useful so Viper isn't an option for me.

I currently use a Fiio E11 headphone amp. Its a little bit of bulk but the sound quality is night and day different. I am in the market for a new one soon as this thing is a good few years old and taken a beating, so I don't know if there is something better / smaller out now, but as and when I start looking I will update with any cool options I find

Funny, only reason I didn't switch from HTC 10 to U11 (and am considering S8) is the lack of normal headphone jack and that freaking dongle, lol

Just did a side by side comparison of S8 and HTC 10, on the same source, using the same Neutron player with the same settings (after calibrating S8 to my ears). Sad story - S8 is noticeably worse...

What are you using earphones or headphones? S8 like the U11 + adapter can't drive big headphones big the S8 will drive a pair of KZ earphones like a charm

Sony in ear headphones (similar to Sony MDR-XB90EX )

I just wish I could get my FiiO Q1 to work with my S8. I've tried the included USB C to USB adaptor that came with the phone, an aftermarket one, and a USB C to micro USB and none of them have worked. I might have to try this dongle.

Are there any of these cutting edge features in S8?

1. Micro-SD card slots - Is it UHS-1 (100mbps)or UHS-2(150mbps)?
2. Quick Charge/Adaptive Fast Charging - Looks like it's still QC- 2.0 since stock charger is having same rating as the one in S6 edge or 3.0 (so far only 6 phones are supported) or 4.0 (announced by qualcomm officially today) ?
3. Have any one tried type-c headphones - any improvements over 3.5mm if it works.
4. There are rumors that Camera sensor uses Sony IMX333 capable of 1000fps.
4. As far as I know the only Sony sensor capable of 1000FPS is IMX400 and it's 19MP. It has extra memory build inside sensor and ours doesn't, so no.
3. I'm not sure what kind of improvement can one expect from headphones connected to USB C, so please enlighten me, just don't quote some BS Apple's advert.

3.5 mm headphones can introduce noise which usb type c would not. Also if the headphones have a built in dac better then the one in the phone they could easily sound better. I personally enjoy the tuned by akgs but made by Samsungs though.

maybe if you had cheap headphones plugged into a cheap computer on a cheap old circuit in an old house or something
plugging it into the phone, 99% of the time there will be no noise

I only said it was possible. Haven't had that issue but again if the headphones had a built in dac that would make a difference.

I am not sure, but I thought I readed that there was a DAC, which was even improved so it could process 32bit audio? Don't pin me on this, but from what I can say, the music sounds in comparison of my old S6:
1: Way better, clearer.
2: More loudness.

The only way I can think of the noise being introduced on 3.5mm jack is induction on the analog wire connection which should be fixed with shielded wire. Now, are you trying to compare some cheap analog headphones that don't even have shielded wire, with digital headphones with build in expensive DAC?

Okay but even if it has a built in dac it could be better. I never had usb headphones at all. I don't plan on buying any either because I like to be able to keep the usb port open. I doubt there is any reason I would actually come up with that would make it seem like a worthwile purchase for me.
USB headphones are possible with the Galaxy S8. I have used my fairly inexpensive PC USB headset with the Galaxy S8 using the included USB C to USB A adapter, and it works flawlessly. The only use I have found for this is that I can leave the headset plugged into the port on the bottom of the GearVR that way once the phone is in the headset it's simultaneously connected to the headphones and without the lag that Bluetooth headphones may introduce.
On 4 - they use imx400 only in Korean version with 6gb ram, but the 960fps(not 1000) is not avaible for Samsung, its Sony's trick
About QC, i have s6 edge and my roommate have s7 edge, the s8 is charging faster even with bigger battery, idk if its 3.0 or 4.0 or whatever, but its faster than the s6 and s7

No Hi-Fi DAC in USA models?

Just read a review that claims only Korean models of the G6 have HiFi DAC? Is that true? I just bought a G6 from AT&T because of their 50% discount, and I took it for granted that HiFi DAC will be featured. Anyone to confirm?
No quad DAC. U.S. version has wireless charging instead.
Never mind. I found the answer somewhere else. I am returning the phone and f**k you LG.
There's plenty of confirmation all over the internet mate. Never take things for granted.
http://www.phonemore.com/lg-g6/models/767
LMAO @ blaming LG for your stupidity.
Well its his fault for not reading before he purchased the phone, but its LG's fault that the phone didnt have the DAC in the 1st place. I love the phone, i like the phisical design and feel more than the S8 and S8+ however I do hate that LG chose for me that we people in America dont like/need the dac. Its just plain stupid on LG's part. They should have equipped the phone the best they could to fight the S8, not cripple it from the get go. As it is im happy with my G6 and will keep it, but i would be way more happier and satisfied if it had the DAC included.

Yes I too am really pissed at LG for excluding the DAC here. For that reason I won't get rid of my V10. When V10 gets Nougat there is a chance I will sell my G6 instead.
I've been using VLC with my library of flac music files I transferred to a new 128gb Samsung microsxdc card ($30.99 on Amazon ftw!) and the built in 10 band equalizer over Bluetooth in my car. Just to report, the sound quality is just as good as plugging the phone into the aux port via the headphone jack. Very impressed with the sound quality on my Fender Audio System. I just wish LG would have included a nice set of headphones like the S8 plus received. I bought the S8 plus for a relative and she gave me the S8 plus AKG headphones. I was able to install the Comply TX-400 Isolation Plus earphone tips I had been using on a cheap pair of smokin' buds that I use when I mow. The sound from the earphone port using VLC is also excellent. I highly recommend using VLC, I was skeptical at first, but it's free and the equalizer sounds great. I really didn't know how to use it at first, but I played around with the levels till I got it to my liking. I started out with "rock" and went from there.

The samsung S8 plus works with my Chord Dave DAC via USB, (USB to USB C with the adapter that comes with the phone)
Looks like this

Most will probably be satisfied with the headphone jack audio, but if you're an audiophile you will want to listen via a good external DAC and the USB port. I'm using a Cambridge DacMagic and it sounds great through my Sony MDR-7506s. By the way, the dongle with built-in DAC /amp for the HTC U11 sounds good on the S8. HTC sells the dongle for only $11.95.

Is the htc usb dongle working on your S8? wakkaday said not getting any audio. Thanks.
Yes, the dongle that shipped with the U11 works fine on my S8 plus I tried the two extra dongles and they worked fine too. I did update the firmware of the dongles in my U11 first. I did have to reboot my S8 once, but that was probably due to switching sound sources back and forth.

External DAC

Hi Guys;
Want to talk of the external DACs.
As we do not have jack on our phone, here a little list of compatible DAC.
Ibasso DC01 ~50$
Review
Unfortunatelly Ibasso says that there's some compatibility issues with Galaxy Series including Note.
It works very well on mine. N975F
Ibasso DC02 ("unbalanced version" of the DC01) ~50$
SMSL Idea ~85$
Review
EarStudio ES100 ~99$
Review
Audioquest DragonFly Cobalt ~299$
Review
Hidizs Sonata HD-D ~30$
Review
I've an Ibasso DC01 and it's wonderfull. I never had a sound like this with a smartphone.
Do you use one too ?
I've been using a smsl idea dac with this phone. It's pretty solid and doesn't drain to much battery.

I use the Fiio BTR3 as well, great little DAC/AMP especially once you enable the LDAC codec in dev options and stream HiFi audio with a source like TIDAL. Paired it with 1MORE Quad Driver earbuds that run 32Ohm impedance which the BTR3 is able to output.

Yup, although I am using Etymotic Er4XR with this. I unfortunately am using Apple Music, stuck in their ecosystem. But sounds great so far with LDAC!
Question, do you have the ability to change the LDAC settings to highest quality in dev options? I tried but it keeps reverting to best effort?
I have Hidizs Sonata using exynos model. Best sound Ive ever heard using my Westone W60's. Even better than my previous LG V30. Large soundstage and very loud. I didn't expect this but I'm very happy about it.
I found a cheap $7 adapter/DAC and it plays nicely with my KZ earbuds (supports 24bit/384). Before I was looking into the UP4, BTR5, etc. But for now I'll hold off buying more expensive gear.

I have a pair of se845s as well. I just bought the Shure usb-c to mmcx cable which obviously has a DAC built in. It's a beautiful thing. Sound is perfectly balanced with minimal hissing (which was a problem for me using other DACs on these sensitive monitors). I was struggling until I got these, now I don't care if a phone has a headphone jack or not.

Usb-c to 3.5mm earphone adapter.

Hello everybody.
I would like to buy an adapter from usb-c to 3.5mm earphone plug. I see it is a little bit more complicated than I thought- There are adapters with DAC chip, without a chip, others won't fit Samsung, etc.
I just want an adapter because of the lack of 3.5mm socket and keep listening music like I did so far. I would like to have the option to use this plug with none-Samsung phones ,too.
What kind of adapter and brands do you recommend to buy ?
Thanks in advance,
Arye

Samsung's is flimsy... it doesn't inspire longevity confidence.
The great Samsung flagship missing 3.5 mm jack fubar continues... lame.
I advise you to acquire an adapter that allows you to charge the phone at the same time.
So an adapter with double inlet, USB-C for charging and 3.5mm Audio

Presumably because it does not incorporate a DAC. The only adaptors that work with the Note 10+ are those with a DAC in them.
