Try this
It might sound stupid but you can try two things.
1. Change the extension name of any firmware from .zip to .raw
2. Extract the .zip file and the recompress to .raw
(You can download .zip firmware from asus' website.)

[Q] [HELP] Extracting a Stock ROM for modify it

Hello everyone.
I want to create my own Custom ROM. I want to make it based on Stock ROM, but I don't know how to extract it.
I downloaded the firmware from SamMobile, extracted the .tar.md5 file with 7-Zip and got the *.img files.
I read some guides about how to use Android Kitchen but I don't know how to start with the Stock ROM to make my ROM based on it, and then, use the Kitchen.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings!
Same procedure. Extract the .img with 7zip.

It didn't work. I get a message saying "Can not open file as archive".
Any answer?
There's loads of guides around, maybe adjust your google search terms.
Seriously, there are a massive amount of guides for this, you can't be looking very hard

SM-G920F odin flashable Modem and Bootloader extracted from G920FXXS4DPIJ

I downloaded the latest firmware (so far) for the SM-G920F extracted the bootlader and modem files and converted them with this tool to .tar.md5 files to use with the latest odin.
You can use them to update to the latest firmware version without having to wipe your data or flash the official ROM.
Warning : I tested theese files on my phone (SM-G920F) and i had no problems , however i have no responsibilty if you do something wrong or end up bricking your phone!
Name of the firmware : G920FXXS4DPIJ_G920FOXX4DPH1_G920FXXS4DPIJ_HOME.tar.md5

I will tell you how to do it for the modem, but the same applies for the bootloader as well.
You download the program i linked you and extract it in a folder on you C drive (example C:\img2tar ).
You open the firmware you downloaded from sammobile with winrar or 7zip.
You extract the modem.bin from inside.
You place the modem.bim inside the program's folder (example img2tar) and run the batch.bat
A file named modem.tar.md5 has been created.Flash that file via odin.

Awrsome man, nice job. It's really slow to download the whole firmware so theese tars are handy .
I didn't downloaded it yet but from its name i saw that on bootloader you packed only the sboot.bin.
If you look at my release and open the allfiles.tar.md5 with 7zip or winrar you will see two files inside : sboot.bin and cm.bin.
Those two files are needed for the boot loader.
Now to make those two files a single .tar.md5 you need to copy them both inside the program directory (example C:\img2tar)
Then you run the batch.bat file like normal.
This time you go inside the created folder mame AllFiles and there you have the allfiles.tar.md5 witch is the complete bootloader with both files inside (you can open it with winrar or 7zip to be sure)
I kinda forgot to tell you the method above.By the way it would be a bad idea to renane the files.

Saw this post when trying to find my hard bricked solution. My phone is dead no lights nothing. When I put the battery in and connect I am getting Qualcomm as stated in all the posts 9008.
It is detected using QFIL but I do not have the correct files I believe. I need
rawprogram0.xml
patch0.xml
prog_emmc_firehose_xxxx.mbn
I am not sure what to do here. I have downloaded some files but I believe the wrong phone type.
Help...... please

I am in a similar situation as you. What I found out is that the *.tar.md5 file can actually contain mbn files. I used winrar to extract them. It still did not do the trick for QFIL as it is missing the xml files.

Did you ever find the XML files?
I have the same exact problem and was going to extract the mbn from a stock rom, but that's pointless without them.

Can you upload or give a link to the file. I might check and attempt to unpack it for you, if that's ok by you.

Uploading 2 programs.. one of them should work at least.
Drag and drop .img file onto imgextractor.exe
or place img in SystemExtractor-Win-master folder and run extractor.

I never saw someone uploading a zip64 file as a rom, are you sure about what you're doing? ?
Anyway, try extracting it onto the pc hdd/ssd making sure you have enough space to do it, then put the rom on the phone's sd card via usb cable, that should do it :good:
Btw, what rom are you trying to flash?

I'm trying to flash nougat firmware, but cannot to extract the firmware, always stuck on 90% (can't read I/O device error). When I see the firmware info on winrar it seem that use zip64 archive format (zip64 library), because the content after extracting is 3gb, I think that's the problem while extracting. My laptop is low specification, also I'm trying to transfer to another pc using usb flashdisk but I got stuck while transferring, transfer failed. I never seem like this before , cannot to transfer unable to extract, wtf? Firmware corrupted? I think not.

The firmware is downloaded from samsung-firmware.org, region asia INS. I was download marshmallow firmware too and flash it to my phone but I don't see any problem while extracting the firmware, I'm using another pc with operating system window 10 64bit. I think the problem is my pc can't handle/read zip64 format even using winrar or 7-zip with latest version. The dialogue show error mssg "problem read file, I/O device error".

On the site you linked, every firmware is in zip format, so ready to flash. I can't find any zip64 archive.
If you still face the problem, try looking up the firmware on sammobile

I'm not sure is the firmware in zip format or zip64 format, but while repairing the firmware it detect as zip64, don't know. Maybe the firmware is brocken, damage, cause trying to extract many times. Anyway thanks for help.
Maybe the file is corrupt.Changing compression method won't help. You can't repair an archive.Just download it again.
