Google's Play Store Protect disabled 'bluetooth.share' on G4*s but NOT on G5*s. Why? - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

According to a relevant thread over @ lenovo forums an interesting (yet unconfirmed) observation has been made that Google's Play Store Protect had disabled the "bluetooth share" app only on Motorola Moto G4s but NOT on Motorola Moto G5s.
Let's not get into speculations or conspiracy theories but let's share facts.
First off, my phone's warrant is expiring... 2017-09 (oh oh).
If you too own a: Motorola Moto G4 (XT1622) when is your warranty expiring?
Also, does anyone know specific detail on the bluetooth adapters on the families of those devices?
Having a look on the Motorola Moto G4s and on the Motorola Moto G5s on gsmarena regarding Bluetooth, I'm seeing the latter have: "4.1, A2DP, LE" while the former have: "4.2, A2DP, LE, EDR".
Could it be something related to 4.2 spec Vs 4.1 spec?

ant+ support?

With the latest update of googles my tracks now ant+ support was added for external sensors, like footpods, heart rate monitors etc.
Anyone have an idea if the defy has the appropriate chip in it that will enable this in the future? Have read so far in a very early forum statement from motorola that this would not work but then again what customer support tells you is not always the whole truth Both the TI omap 3610 and 3630 does according to their product sheet indicate to support the needed wilink chip. Ericsson have just last week activated ant+ support in all their current android phones so it does seem possible to do things like this, if the manufacturer wants off course
Appreciate any help or info! Thanks
I'm also looking for this, there are some indications that the chipset supports this hardware wise, below is a comment quoted from Jollo at the Motorola developer forum:
"Maybe you know about the first attempts to ANT+ sensor usage in android phones by HTC (ANT+ could be seen as de-facto standard for sports activities sensors like foot- or heart-pace). They used an ordinary Legend which was just flashed to enable the ANT+-capabilities of the TI WiLink radio chipset.
In case the Defy will use such chipset (specs don't name this, but even WiLink Gen. 6 should be adequate), this phone as one of the rare ruggedized ones running Android could become an outstanding sports-device. Even if there is no Software using these capabilities of recording heart-pace or other sensor-data yet, i could imagine that this would be just a question of weeks after the first ANT+-enabled Android phone will reach the market"

Any information of the possibility of supporting Ant+ by the Defy?
Hi,
this is just an idea. I have to say I do not know to much details about Android driver programming but is there perhaps a chance to port/take the driver from the MOTOACTV device.

Perhaps an expert could give a statement here!?

Moto X Play and Apt-X support?

Soooo...thought I put this on here just in case anybody else is wondering.
It seems the Moto X Play supports apt-X. I thought it did not and was kind of surprised to find out (if it is indeed true).
I went to capture logcat traces when pairing the Play with my Sony MDR-1ABT Bluetooth headphones to find out if it supports apt-X. Unsurprisingly, I wasn't able to find anything apt-X related in the logs. So I figured it does not support it, in contrast to myl old LG G2, which mentions negotiating apt-X in the traces.
Wanting to know for sure, I bought an Avantree Saturn Pro Bluetooth Transceiver, because it offers a status LED that indicates which Audio mode is used.
Much to my surprise, according to that little device, the Moto X Play paired using apt-X! To do a negative confirmation, I paired the Saturn Pro with my Laptop and my Dell Venue 8 7840 Tablet, both of which do not support apt-X. The Saturn Pro correctly showed this, as well as telling me that a Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z5 compact both do support apt-X (no surprise there).
I'm curious if anybody else can confirm apt-X support, preferrably through some other device/test?
That has been already answered here
I can't test it for sure, but Motorola support also claimed it supported Apt-X as one of my questions before I purchased it.

Moto X Style VoLTE Support India - RJio

Dear Moto X Style users,
I have written a mail to Motorola as well as Lenovo. Email addresses are listed below:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
Here is the content of the email:
Respected Motorola/Lenovo Team,
I am a big fan of Motorola products. I prebooked Moto X Style on the very moment it's pre-booking window opened on flipkart.
It is a 2015 flagship of motorola. We have very high expectations from it. We were happy to see Marshmallow update rolling out for our device very soon after its release.
Currently in India RJio is occupying the market with its free 4G and VoLTE services. But unfortunately on our Moto X Style RJio internet disconnects very frequently and and we are unable to surf internet. Also there is no VoLTE support.
We were shocked when we heard that Moto X Play received VoLTE update in May 2016. However your flagship device of 2015 didn't receive the update.
We didn't said anything earlier because we were hoping that VoLTE update will roll out soon for Moto X Style too. But no it didn't.
We love Motorola devices but if you don't provide updates and support on your flagship devices in long run then what's the point of buying such devices.
Please look into this matter.
PS: Every smartphone manufacturer nowadays including Motorola and Lenovo is providing smartphones with VoLTE support even with price tag below Rs. 10000.
Regards,
Mehul Boricha
If possible do email Motorola and Lenovo to bring this issue to light. I have also shared it on Facebook and Twitter. Let's all share and post this issue so that we can enjoy RJio or any other 4g seamlessly on our Moto X Style.

Not the X though... the Moto Z and G4 will by the end of the year (not October).
http://www.droid-life.com/2016/09/27/moto-z-moto-g4-nougat-update-release-date-q4/
Pretty much like last years announcement about Marshmallow... it was a warm up before dropping a few sets from the upgrade channels, honestly it could be the same for us. I find it more and more likely that the Moto X Style/Pure, Moto G 2015, Moto G Turbo, and Moto E 2nd gen will not get Nougat.

U did say that g4 and z is getting N but the source says that x style/pure will get update but not as early as g4 nd z series
I do believe that it will get N because we can see that CM 14 for pure is quite developing very good. ... And also the process is upto mark.... And also with the update volte support shud be supported......

Better read that article your referencing again... it is a classic fluff article, no references and a lot of speculation and opinion based on the exact same article I am referencing, in fact it looks like they copy and pasted half of it. Their references are just the generic Moto software update page which has no information on Nougat at all.
My point is, if you have been around Moto for a while, this is a classic statement by them and exactly what happened last year with Marshmallow... they stated that some models would take longer due to performance or compatibility concerns, and then they said "oh, sorry, guess not" ... And yet we know all those devices worked fine with Marshmallow, they did get it via CM13 and other ROMs.
The fact that an aftermarket ROM works, doesn't mean anything about what the manufacturer does officially.
I hope I'm wrong... but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Received a call from Motorola Support. He told me that there is no problem with the device. It is the problem with Jio and it may not be compatible with Moto X Style and told me to contact Jio customer care.
I explained him that this issue is only happening with Moto X Style on other devices it is working fine but he won't listen. After talking to support I don't think they are going to provide any further official support to Moto X Style or any other previous smartphones. Neither VoLTE nor Android N.
Very disappointed.
Any custom roms for moto x style which supports volte
Sent from my XT1572 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Most of custom roms support VoLTE but not Jio's VoLTE. Don't know why they require separate update.
Guys as we all have lost Hopes so hereby i ask a question that is there any rom which already has volte support and also ,v4a preinstalled??
enable volte using sortcut master
Can someone try using shortcut master to see they can enable volte for reference

I already created a thread about Jio connectivity issue, Reposting the issue here as all the replies in this thread are from Jio users. Is the signal drops and reconnects every few minutes? Is there any mods/upgrades/downgrades will settle the issue?

yes i do face the same problem, signal drops and reconnects every few mins . (Full stock brand new phone). I dint find anything that solves it.
i was equally shocket to find out that VOLTE support is not available yet on X Style for Jio. I had recommended this phone to a friend and she bought it to utilise Jio. Now she has to route the calls throug h JioVoice app. Data is working but with some disconnections. Not the case with my Moto X play?
Why should people pay premium for such phones when ultimately the company is to dump them. This is not a classic motorola. its a classic chinese Lenovo.

Good day to you Sir/Madam!
Motorola has released a patch/update for VoLTE feature for 'Moto X Play' but they have ignored the 'Moto X Style' for the same. 'Moto X Style' is one of the premium smartphones released in 2015 beside ' Moto X Force' and is easily eligible to receive the same VoLTE patch/update as it also has higher specifications and features.
We in India are unable to use VoLTE features offered by Reliance JIO network without this VoLTE feature update from Motorola for this device.
So, as you have able to provide VoLTE for Moto X Play, we also request you to provide the same VoLTE feature update/patch for the Moto X Style.
If this is never going to happen for this device in future also, please provide an update for us.
Your's Sincerely,
Abhishek G.

This guy sounds like typical Chinese lenovo.
He means sd808 doesn't support volte. We should probably tell them to check the specs again for the chooser and also tell them that in countries like US volte is available on this Device.

Hello Mototola Support Team!
But the Moto X Style has a Qualcom Snapdragon 808 processor(MSM8992) and it is clearly mentioned on the Qualcomm.com site

that it supports Next-generation calling services like 'Wi-Fi calling with LTE call continuity and HD Voice over 3G and VoLTE'.
So, on what technical limitations are you trying to say that Moto X Style does not support VOLTE ?
Please enlighten us with a valid reason.

[SOLVED] Bluetooth - aptX codec

I am interested in high quality bluetooth audio and aptX /aptX HD are preferred codec protocols for that. Now that Qualcomm acquired CSR, they own the aptX technology. On their web page there is an aptX compatibility link, where, for Motorola Phones we can see listed Moto G and Moto X, but the pictures are from the first generation phones.
For "aptX HD" I found only the latest flagship LG phones and Luna.
Is there a way to include support for aptX in our phones?

I don't believe there is. Sometimes I'm amazed at some of the simple and cheap things they left off these phones. At the manufacturer's level we're talking pennies on some things.
I have asked Qualcomm about the Moto G4 Plus and Moto X Pure (2015) and they where nice to answer this:
"Hi, yes Moto phones should support aptX, although we haven’t done any testing on these devices."
Since Qualcomm bought CSR in 2014, I don't see any development in that direction.
LE: New email from Qualcomm support:
"We do internal IOP testing on customer products but they have not provided us with Moto devices sorry."
Makes sense, only the real Moto cared to send their devices for testing. The following owners of the Moto brand (Google and Lenovo) are not interested in quality testing as much.
Capturing the bluetooth communication between phone and some aptX capable headphones and, after that, Wireshark that file, resulted in the information that Moto G4 is aptX capable!
Kudos to AlphaDog: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Moto-G4-Moto-G4-Plus-Moto-G4/Bluetooth-aptX-support/m-p/3488442#M10779
If this is aptX compatible, it should be aptX HD compatible as well.
Try flashing this mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-aptx-hd-bluetooth-hi-res-audio-t3501991
That mod seems to have worked on my G4 Plus. Now I just need a Bluetooth sink device (speakers headphones) capable of aptX HD, to verify.

Did you have a chance to verify if aptX is working after applying the fix?
AptX it works. Checked it with a few soundbars at BestBuy. Now, the AptX HD is a different story since there is only one type of LG headphones that supports it, nothing else on market. So I couldn't find a pair to test it.
Hi, are there any results?

Flashing Different ROM for Pokemon Go Plus?

Hey guys, I have a very specific question that I was hoping someone here would know the answer to, and have some advice for.
I bought a Verizon Motorola E4 from Walmart for the sole purpose of being a secondary device to play Pokemon Go.
It actually plays quite well - very adequate performance, plus remarkable battery life.
However, there is one major problem, and that is the Bluetooth functionality seems to be completely broken.
Because of this, it's impossible to connect a Pokemon Go Plus to the phone.
I'm a new user, so I'm unable to post a link, but there are many threads about this on the official Lenovo forum.
If you Google "motorola e4 pokemon go plus", the top link should be one of them.
After many months, Lenovo has done absolutely nothing to address the issue.
So now I'm here to ask whether there might be any alternative options.
Would flashing a third party ROM potentially fix the Bluetooth issues?
Does anyone here play Pokemon Go on a Motorola E4 on a third party ROM?
Does anyone here play Pokemon Go on a Motorola E4 with a Pokemon Go Plus on a third party ROM?
Thanks in advance!

Also, it looks like Pokemon go plus isn't just Bluetooth, it's BLE (Bluetooth low energy). Very different. Don't think this device is capable. It also doesn't have NFC.
This phone's Bluetooth is not broken at all, you're just trying to use a feature it doesn't have.
Thanks for the replies... appreciate it.

This was certainly interesting, as I knew nothing about BLE.
However, it seems like the Motorola E4 should have LE though?
It's listed on the gsmarena page on both the regular and USA versions.
I guess this would take me by surprise as even much older phones like a Samsung Note 2 is capable of pairing with a Pokemon Go Plus.

It has Bluetooth 4.0 which actually should be capable of BLE, so I may have been wrong. I know for sure it doesn't have NFC, so maybe the Pokemon go plus uses that as well as BLE.
Because the e4 has good Bluetooth function for everything I've thrown at it.
