After flashing original ROM, phone went into bootloop. Hard reset doesn't work. - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend got an old phone from his dad, who had an old custom ROM installed on it, and asked me to return it to the original software.
I used ODIN 3.09 and installed the appropriate ROM which I downloaded from Sammobile.
The phone went into a bootloop, so I wiped the cache and when that didn't work, I wiped all data. After that the phone booted into the Welcome screen and my friend started to configure it. In the middle of the process, the phone rebooted, and now it loads into the Welcome screen, but reboots after a few seconds.
After that I've tried reflashing the software and doing multiple resets, to no avail. Any ideas?
Please let me know of any Ideas. I am very ashamed of damaging my friend's phone.
PS: I should say, I put a bootloader into ODIN the first time I flashed the software because some tutorial recommended it and I haven't seen that requierement in any other tutorial since. Might this be the cause? How could I test that?

What model what firmware what bootloader ??

The phone is a Note 3 N900 UB, the firmware I installed was N900UBSEBQB5, and to be honest, I can't quite tell what the bootloader is, the file I downloaded is just called "bootloader".

the file I downloaded is just called "bootloader
My guess is that's the fault as bootloaders are named same as firmwares
Example >>> BL_N9005ZSUGPJ2
Could be a bootloader for anything .because some tutorial recommended

Have you taken a chance to reflashing the official firmware with ordin , that would be helpful all the time.
After that you should make sure your phone work fine on the official rom .
Then update your Recovery to a third party Rec,like CWM or TWRP .
Next step,flashing an original rom.

[Q] SM-N900 Soft brick, unable to return to stock

Hi Guys,
This was my original FW:
AP: N900UBUBMI5
CP: N900UBUBMI2
CSC: N900UUBBMI2
Model: SM-N900 International version ( no carrier branding etc), FW version was from Uruguay
I flashed the wrong stock yesterday, and when I found the right one and tried to flash back it wouldn't work. I keep on getting a failed message in Odin in the system.img stage. Tried several different stock roms, tried to wipe data in recovery with no luck. Anyone know what I can do?

You have posted the same question twice: (original link) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2489935
I have provided you instructions with a process to ROOT, install TWRP and work with the appropriate ROM files to get things operational. You responded to my PM stating you already had a recovery ROM you tried but it still fails.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling your device is glitched which is why I recommended you follow each section and each step to the letter. I understand this is redundant steps as you would be ROOTING, installing TWRP and going through a similar process as before but it's what we call process of elimination with troubleshooting in case something happened during the ROOT or with the install of your TWRP software. I have provided you with the appropriate ROM file and TWRP files for your device which should hopefully do the trick but downloading them takes time as hotfile limits your download speed.
I'm being a bit direct but your situation is more of a troubleshooting matter which takes time and has no magical/quick answer. Rather than posting twice, please try what is suggested and respond with the outcome so we can further troubleshoot.
Thank you!
Hi,
I really do appriciate all your help but it seems something else is going on. Once you told me the first time I installed TWRP already and that didn't solve the problem. I always get stuck in odin in the flashing of the system.img. I already tried everything you said many times today but it didn't work
Maybe this phone is different than other phones.

I understand you have installed TWRP to try and do a recovery but this is what I'm saying... Maybe the ROOT went sideways and something is glitched in the device. If you follow my instructions which I provided via PM, this involves rooting the phone again, installing TWRP from scratch and going through each step as if it were a new device. It will take about 1 hour to do this process due to hotfile server speeds but once you've gone through this process, if it still hangs then another problem may be occurring. My thoughts are the ROOT itself or the TWRP recovery have become corrupt somehow causing you to get stuck during the flashing process.
Hope this helps!

You might be right, but when I tried to root my device again I got into a boot loop. My phone doesn't have a operational operating system so the root wouldn't work it just boot looped. After that I re installed TWRP and proceeded but again failed in the same place...

OK, when you go into TWRP, from the touch base menus, click on format or wipe and within this menu, click on each option in a clockwise direction twice. This will wipe your device and hopefully come this time, you'll be able to ROOT the device again. Let us know how it works.

[Q] messed up good this time

hi all. need help
i've been playing with different roms for couple of years now on different phones and did not have any problems.
till now that is ....
i have installed Omega 21.1, but from time to time phone would lose gsm data connection so i decided to flash something else.
installed [ROM]KOT49H【4.4.2】AOSP official Google Edition and it was good.
for some, God knows what reason, wanted to try Omega19 (4.3). installed fine but sound was broken. when ever phone used any kind of sound it would start flashing or would freeze or something. Flasing any other rom did not help. and for some reason it does not let me change modem with odin.
Last modem i have installed is XXUEMJ5.
tried to do restore using [GUIDE] Unroot/Unbrick, Flash official stock firmware on Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 & I9505 but Odin would fail with Auth error
tried with Odin 3.47, and 3.07
now i still can install rom but stops in logo loop. tried both Omega and google edition.
pls help

Hi,
Once you have installed a TW 4.4.2 ROM , it installs the latest knox bootloader.
At that point , you cannot downgrade your firmware.
You said you installed [ROM]KOT49H【4.4.2】AOSP official Google Edition and it was good.
Your best bet is to re-install that.
As for the modem , there is a technique which you have to try:
Look HERE
That should help.
BTW , I edited your title
thx. will try that and report back.
nope, still stuck @ logo loop
not sure what more combination to test
tried Omega 21.1 with
Bootloader -> BL_I9505XXUFNA5_373648_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_C ERT.tar.md5 and
Modems -> CP_I9505XXUFNA5_373648_REV06_user_low_ship_MULTI_C ERT.tar.md5
but now it does not get to the logo. shows samsung logo and than screen goes blank.

Hi,
You said you tried the [ROM]KOT49H【4.4.2】AOSP official Google Edition ,and it worked .
So I figured to try and re-install that one.
The other thing you must do between flashing different ROMS is a full wipe (Cache and data)
yes. that was first thing i tested. at best i get the logo loop.
and yes, i do full data wipe before and after reinstallation of the new rom.
cache wipe only whe requested but in this case done that to.
is there a way to see a boot log or something to see where and why booting stops?

The best thing you can do is flash the entire 4.4.2 stock rom via odin. And start from scratch(Recovery/Custom rom) Since you already flashed the newestbootloader (from OMEGA file) .This mean your knox is now triggered and your warranty is now void 0x01.

Hi,
Perhaps you should try to find the latest test stock 4.4.2 firmware ( I9505XXUFNA1) and flash it in odin.
Wipe data and cache before and after flashing.
And then wait for the official update.
At least you should have a phone you can use.
following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
i've found that there is 4.3 stock image I9505XXUEMKF. downloaded it and tried to install but that did not work.
now this is a noob question but is there a speciffic bootloader, modem or something else i need to flash before flashing this image?
or should i search for 4.4.2 version?
thx
flashing stock 4.3 on current bootloader/modem combination gives me Fail from Odin and Sw. Rev. Check Fail error on the phone.

I believe malybru already answer that for you .Thread and Stop experimenting with your Phone because there's a chance that you might bricked your Device or end up with no IMEI.. and Your asking for help/Solution mate so follow their instruction . If not feel free to send your Phone to customer Service for repair.( and Be aware that your warranty is already voided unless your Country is part of EU so Rooting and Flashing don't void your warranty)

But if i break the glass on my phone and such then i dont have any warranty for that..and must pay them for a repair.

ah, my bad. for some reason i was reading 4.4.2 as 4.2.2
i did follow all other instructions, and i thank you all for them, but still not sure where to go from here.

If you already flash the Bootloader from Omega then you can no longer downgrade to 4.3 stock , that's why your Getting Fail (Auth) in Odin Flash the 4.4.2 stock Leak rom for now then if you consider flashing a Custom Rom then ,flash the philz recovery 6.09.2 or TWRP (Dont forget to Nandroid backup EFS and such and then DO A CLEAN WIPE by Wiping cache, dalvik cache data and system) and From recovery flash any Custom rom you like. (no need to root your phone, Your phone will be rooted after flashing any custom rom . So goodluck

[Q] No IMEI and Rom crash issues

Hi all, hope you can help.
I was using an S5 ROM until yestersay and it was perfect. I dont recall the name, but it was from here and it was the one on v4, not v23. So i needed to put the stock ROM back on, but when i did that i started getting problems. The 2 issues i have are;
1) no network, imei, baseband
2) rom got stuck on samsung boot logo, then freezes when eventually loaded
I flashed it the same as i have 100s of times on other phones, factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. I reinstalled the rom that was working and its the same. I then installed an AOSP ROM and whike that loads and works perfectly, there is still no network/baseband/imei.
I did flash 2 modems last night, but the issues remains.
So, does anyone know how i can ideally get a stock TW ROM working without crashes and get the network back up?
Have you tried restoring your efs backup?
Edit:
Try flashing this -
http://www.mediafire.com/?k32kvbgb2dc9qde
Here is the thread for it -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507403
Thank you, I will try flashing that, but it does boot with the AOSP ROM.
Sadly i dont have a backup of the efs.
I have just installed another TouchWiz ROM and it also is freezing.
It boots in fine after install, but when the screen is locked, it freezes. From that point on the phone is unresponsive.
Oh, and no network/IMEI of course.
I think I have totally screwed this Note 3, which is mildly annoying.

I had freezing rom and imei Null, and broadband unknown.
OK, that makes me feel quite hopeful!
The ROM has just finished, so I'll install now. Did you just flash with Odin? If so, was it 3.07 or 3.09?

Yes, with ODIN but i dont remember the version. I dont think it is so important for flashing.
Sadly that has not done the trick.
The ROM installed, but when it gets through the set up, there is still no service.
Baseband: Unknown
Network: Unknown
Mobile Network State: Disconnected
Service State: Out of Service
IMEI: Unknown
When I lock the device it's fine, but as soon as I wake and try to unlock, it freezes.
I'm going to have to take it to Samsung, but I guess the first thing they will do is check the warranty
Fark.
I went to the Samsung Experience shop on Oxford Street - they were really helpful
...until they say that the knox had been tripped. Practically pushed me out the door and told me to f*** off.
So, I have a dead Note 3 that won't hold a TW ROM and has no service on any ROM.
Any suggestions would be welcome at this stage!

One of the thing that will help is to flash as much roms you can. In my case 11 roms. And on the 12th the network comes back.
And there a lot in google and in samobile that you can try.
But flashing as much rom as you can is the best way.
Good Luck
If it's an N9005, it sounds like the issues i was having with my phone when i first installed the S5 Rom.
No matter what i did, or how many times i tried flashing back to stock, it wouldn't work at all, it just kept freezing, lagging, no sound, no baseband/IMEI etc. What fixed it for me was downloading the NH1 Modem and flashing it in ODIN. If when you restart your phone, there is still no baseband/IMEI then restart back into Download mode, flash modem with ODIN but make sure Restart is unticked. When it's flashed, pull the battery out of your phone, then put it back in again. Restart back into download and flash the modem again, but tick auto restart this time. Hopefully you'll be back sorted when the phone restarts.

I flashed the S5 Stock Rom Final 20 (At the time) and all seemed fine. After i'd flashed though, it just didn't seem to recognise my baseband, and no matter how many times i flashed to stock, it wouldn't change anything.
In the end, i flashed the N9005XXUENB7_N9005OXAENB1_BTU Stock Rom, then flashed the NH1 Modem. That kicked my Note 3 back into life and restored IMEI/Baseband. From there, i just flashed the S5 rom back and it was all working fine. I think the modem should kick it into gear no matter what rom you're using though.
Dude. You are a star.
I downloaded the ROM you said, flashed, then flashed the modem the way you said and it works.
Thank you so much.

VALID IMEI
7. i took a Backup of IMEI in mobile uncle tools
saved imei.bak file in PC also.

9. tried to install "ultimate galaxy v3" accidently..
the rom was meant for A110 instead of my A110Q.. nd as a result i found my phone dead or bricked.

Install app called "phone Info" from google store, it will take you to correct firmware as per your country origin.

That shouldn't have failed, CSC mismatch is not a cause of flash failure. Can you provide more details?
Hm...
Hi guys,
I had an issue similar to this and have no recollection what I did to fix it. I don't even think that I fixed it, ever. Meaning - no stock ROM install for me for months and months now.
I just downloaded some AOSP/TW ROM and flashed. Are you able to get to the custom recovery? Please confirm - I've read somewhere that you can flash stock from custom recovery. I did try a few "PIT" files, with no help.
P.S. I remembered a bit now. I was finally able to flash it through Odin, but entered boot loop. So, no go!
My eyes are on this thread.
Good luck,
Sonny B.

Um sorry for the late reply. So what happens is i down the firmware from sammobile sure that it was for my model and build number but the csc was of switzerland different than mine next i flashed the rom from 3 different versions of odin starting from v.3.10 it started saying checking md5 file and it was taking too long and we had lost hope then suddenly it said md5 read succesfully and then brought up another dialouge saying setup connection and then cam up with a fail message usb debugging and all the process was done correctly i know this is a late reply but please reply back if you are there thanks
if....

Portugal PDA:N9005XXUDMJ7 CSC:N9005OPTDMJ4 SLOVENIA PDA:N9005XXUDMJ7 CSC:N9005OXXDMJ4 POLAND PDA:N9005XXUDMJ7 CSC:N9005PRTDMJ4.download link is also on sammobile.com!
Good luck!

[RESOLVED] [Q] SM-G900W8 Stuck at boot screen after editing build.prop

Okay, I've searched the forum for several hours but there's just too much here to make sense of.
My phone is a SM-G900W8 brought home June 19 this year.
Stock Lollipop 5.0 pre-installed.
Code:
Baseband version: G900W8VLU1BOC1
Kernel version: 3.4.0-4100894
Build number: LRX21T.G900W8VLU1BOC1
SE for Android status: Enforcing, SEPF_SM-G900W8_5.0_0002
KNOX version: 2.3
Rooted using CF-Auto-Root (this file), Custom recovery is Philz Touch 6.57.8 klte.
Both of these were in place early on and haven't caused any problems.
Everything was working perfectly fine until last night, when I tried this trick (in first post), rebooted, and now I'm stuck at the splash screen.
Nothing gets me out except a battery pull.
I've tried:
Button combo volup - home - power to go to recovery; this does nothing from the splash screen (actually even pressing and holding down power does nothing), and after a battery pull it won't boot into recovery either.
Booting into download mode (success! yay!) and using Odin to re-flash Philz recovery. Reboot doesn't go into recovery, as stated above.
Just waiting, at various points in the process (while in splash screen, while turned off) to give a chance for things to happen if they just needed time.
So now I'm able to get into download mode and use Odin but from there I don't know what to do next. Flash the bootloader? Okay, but there are so many links...which one do I use? Of all the specs I've gathered, why didn't I find that out?
Can somebody help me please?
[EDIT: Solution and links, for SM-G900W8 users who might be looking for help]
I finally managed to boot into recovery by leaving the USB cable connected to the computer while pressing volup+home+power, a last-ditch trick found in deanr1977's very helpful thread "Read before flashing a Rom (Tips for new & old)"
Links to the firmware for this specific model can be found here, or if you just need a piece:

factory reset. Then flash stock rom. if you cant boot into recovery try the latest twrp. It works if its still not working then flash stock firmware from SAMMOBILE with odin. it will work then
Thanks for the reply. The problem I'm having is knowing where to download the files I need to flash - because there are so many threads here for so many different models of this phone. Believe me, I've looked, and keep turning up everything BUT W8
I'm tired and frustrated and need my phone functional - can you point me to a post or a thread with the latest version of TWRP that I can flash with Odin?
[edit] Sorry about that - I found the thread. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

EDIT: THESE TOOLS ARE FOR 900F MODEL
Latest twrp from https://twrp.me/
Philz recovery from https://mega.co.nz/#!oVNz0T6C!VII47M...MpQIN2b-PEUYN8
Best Stock firmware 5.0 BTU from http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/44413/G900FXXU1BOC7_G900FOXA1BOC7_BTU/
Enter download mode and Flash either one of the recoveries and Clear dalvik cache, clear cache, format system, format data and then factory reset. After that boot into odin mode directly and flash the Stock Firmware.
note: in Odin uncheck "auto reebot option" and after flashing recovery when the odin shows its done wait 1 minute disconnect usb and pull out battery then turn it on if your phone says "Recovery is seandroid enforcing" wait for 3-4 seconds it will go away and recovery will boot up.

Now, I just want to check: this is for the G900F; will it make a huge difference to my phone? Can I restore my data directly from the backup? I thought what I needed is the exact stock rom that was installed on this phone when I got it so I've been looking everywhere for the G900W8 firmware. I do intend to play with tweaked ROMs in future, but today's not that day.
Finally managed to boot into recovery after flashing TWRP - read a tip somewhere about doing the keypresses while connected to PC via USB. Currently running a nandroid backup before moving on to all the wiping/formatting steps - at least then if something else goes wrong I've got the latest data. :victory:

i am sorry the tools i mentioned are for 900f model. Here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900W8/ you can find firmware for G900W8. Just factory reset format dalvik cache, cache , data and system and flash your stock firmware in recovery. There are many different firmwares available with the exact bootloader and modem but they are carrier specific. I don't know which carrier you are on (if any) so just go through the list and download the firmware you were on, flash it. I will highly recommend you to backup your EFS and modem folder aswell just incase anything goes wrong and u flash the wrong firmware.
Oh! Oh! I found it! The stock ROM, as well as the kernel and the modem! So, next question - should I flash all three or just the ROM?
(God I feel like an amateur right now...Thanks so much for helping me out here dork997. :highfive: )

no prb, Okay if you download the rom from sammobile it should be in a .zip format extract it once and it will give you a .tar.md5 file which you have to flash in odin (this file has bootloader+firmware+modem) if you have 7zip or other such programs it will give you option to re-extract the .tar.md5 file but you dont need to do that just extract the downloaded zip once. and flash it in odin (make sure you factory reset and do the formating steps before flashing it....flashing rom over an old rom has caused some issues for me in the past so i always factory reset before but people also flash without factory reset or formating, choice is urs.
And I believe you've just answered my question. I'll hold off on flashing kernel and modem but I did back up everything, just in case. Wiping/formatting now; crossing fingers that things will go fine from here.
(My carrier is in my userinfo under my name, btw. )
Edit 'cause we keep posting at the same time: Hells yeah, I know how to flash, I've done it tons of times, just never run into this problem or had a device with so many variants so I'm just not used to asking so many questions, is all. I sincerely appreciate you guiding me through, and hope this will help others with this device in the future.

FYI - It worked like a charm and now Lexie (I name my phones ) is up and running again almost like nothing happened. Thank goodness!
In case anyone else winds up needing them, I'm adding links to the stock firmware I downloaded.
