Factory Unlocked S8 (US cellular) on Verizon? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have a chance to nab a US cellular S8 from someone on the cheap and i was wondering if it could work with verizon?
Just looking to make sure it uses the same voice bands and same lte bands

All US s8 are the same internally.

Hello
Is it true that all new 4G LTE from US Cellular are factory unlocked? I'm asking this because I was thinking about buying one Galaxy S8 from a seller and the picture of the device box says "US Cellular" but he doesn't know if it will work on other carriers or not.
My intention is to use it on South America where I reside, using a GSM carrier named "CLARO".
Any thoughts if this is a risky purchase? I can see printed on the box a code SMG950UKAU if that helps. Thanks in advance for any help.

I will work over sea well, as far as internet you need to check the carrier you intend use it on.

Thanks for your reply, my biggest doubt is if it will ask for unlock code when I pop in a CLARO sim card.

Can you check the device before actually buying it?
If it's unboxed and you can use and test the device, then you can check its lock leve with a GSM card, regardless if is att, tmobile or claro (with which you intend to use your device).
You can check the lock level by following these steps:

Hi, unfortunatelly no, I can't check the device before buying, specially because the seller says it is sealed in box.

I would proceed with care if I were you and try always to test a phone before buying it. Especially if you get from a 3rd party.

Using on At&t?

I'd like to buy this and use on AT&T.
What hoops do I have to jump through to make this happen?
The frequencies are supported (don't care about LTE).
For example if I buy unsubsidized on Amazon, do I have to call Verizon up and get a code from them that will let me use it on AT&T and other GSM carriers?
It's locked for US GSM bands, as far as I know. P3Droid has said that they're working on getting it unlocked. I'm sure we'll hear about it when it happens.
I bought my RAZR M at Amazon (Verizon, without contract) and i use it in Germany with O2 Provider.
No Problem, nothing needed. It´s not locked.

Correctamundo (sp). In further searching it looks like they block the MNC for at&t and t-mobile inside the radio firmware NV settings. Also there is a pesky "unknown sim" or something that pops up every bootup.
Working in India/Asia ?
Hi,
I'm planning to buy one in my visit to US next week. I intend to use it with GSM India.
Has anyone used the phone with GSM provider in India or other asian countries? I was told that GSM capabilities works only in european countries , so wanted to make sure of it before I buy it.
Thanks
Just check and make sure the bands that your network uses are supported. It supports all the standard GSM bands, so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Could i install another firmware (rom) instead of Verizon to s7 edge?

Hello Dears;
My cousen was bought S7 Edge from Verizon to me. I am living in Turkey. (Europe) And i would like to use rom with Turkish language.
As i know, all s7 edge phones selling with exynos processor in Turkey & Europe. Also they have different rom than USA.
I just want to install new rom which has been using on Europe. Could i change it? Is it possible or not?
Why not? / Why yes? Waiting for your answers. Thank you for all supports...

Not possible. Biggest reason, all European (actually anything not from North America or China) S7's are Exynos variants, all US (including verizon) ones are Qualcomm. Different architecture, different kernels, different ROMS. But aside from that, the Verizon one (same with all US ones) are bootloader locked, with signature checks on flash, meaning if the ROM isn't signed by Verizon (or maybe by specific Samsung keys) it won't flash on your phone.

Thank you very much _Dennis_ for your perfect answer. I just need to be sure one more thinks;
* When i try to open my phone, i see verizon logo on boot. Are there any way to possible not see to that logo?
* The phone is giving "SIM car is not from Verizon Wireless" notification on all restarts. Also i don't want to see this notification automatically!
* I would like to use HD Voice feature but i couldn't As i understood, i need a Verizon Wireless account to enable this option. But i don't Do you know any way to open this option without Verizon account. Or any way to create account on Verizon Wireless without Verizon number. Because of we just using Turkish carriers gsm card on Turkey as well.
Thank you for your all supports and answer again.

1: No, you need to change the boot animation for this and that is not possible without root.
2: No, again root is needed to modify system files. Or open a Verizon account.
3: Again no, you need a Verizon account to create one and a sim card to use their HD capable network.
Sorry for all the negative answers but that's the way it is with a locked phone and not on the phones network. #2 is a bit silly because the phone is network unlocked but they still do this to us.

He means a bootloader locked phone. You can still have a sim unlocked phone, which you do, with a locked bootloader, which is preventing you from changing the things you want to.

It doesn't matter if it's carrier unlocked it's still Verizon branded. Like I said it's silly but that's the way they operate. We need it bootloader unlocked and then all these annoyances can be fixed. Until then we are stuck with what we have. Your only other option is to sell the phone you have and purchase one for the carrier you are currently on. Other than that you will have to put up with the sim card message and no HD calls.

You are welcome. It's definitely not worth the loss of so much money. For the difference you could probable buy a nice used unlocked phone off Swappa. Good luck.

Galaxy S8 bought in Canada, can it be used in Europe?

So, the thing is my parents live in Canada and they bought me a Galaxy s8 from the Samsung Store for me, and I live in Europe. My question is, can I use the phone here? The model number is SM-G950W and I just found out the global model is SM-G950F. Is there any reason for me to worry? From what I can see the 4G LTE cellular bands are different.
Cheers!
iirc if they unlock it in Canada you'll be fine.

what do you mean unlock it in canada?
Activate it with Canadian SIM and make a call, that should activate it but don't take my word for it, not sure if it applies to your model.
On the european one I have (and I live in europe, so that's a good thing) it says 'for eu sim cards only' or something like that on the box. Would have to check the exact text this evening (not at home now). But from what I understand you can't simply use another regions S8 just like that.
Not sure how exactly it works though

Looking for a guide to unlock S10+ SM-G9750 Verizon

I am looking for a guide to unlocking a Verizon S10+ chip version to a Movistar career from Mexico, are this is possible? I would like to load the official global fw version if it is possible.
Thanks! In advance.

Moviestar career from Mexico? You failed to mention what model phone you have exactly since everyone knows the US models can't be unlocked.

The model is SM-G9750U, yes Movistar from Mexico. I found this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ow-to-carrier-unlock-stock-sm-g955u1-t3778162 and also this another one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/sm-g975u-firmware-downloads-tmo-spr-att-t3908657.
Do you think this could work?
Thank you!

He's asking for a SIM unlock, not bootloader unlock, and the Verizon device (as he mentioned, just added a 0 to the model #) gets unlocked naturally after you insert an active SIM into it. Do you know anyone in the US with a Verizon account? It should take a few minutes.

Yes, probably... Do you have any guide to do it? I understand that login to the portal of Verizon and put the IMEI to get the unblock code, correct?
Thank you, I really appreciate your help!
No. You put an active SIM into the device and it unlocks. There's no code request.

Excellent! Thank you, I will give it a try when I have the device. When does it request an unlock code?
It doesn't. You put an active Verizon SIM in, and it unlocks. Then you can use any SIM you want in it. That's it.

So first I need to boot with a Verizon SIM and then power off and put the Movistar sim?
Hello,
Once I put my Movistar Sim, I receive a message "Sorry your device can´t be activated on another carrier´s network right now. For help, contact Verizon at ....."
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
An update from unlockunit.com:
Hi Hackerjj,
Unfortunately, if you cannot find your Phone Model, Country or Network listed on our website, we are unable to generate the unlocking codes for your device.
If you get the message ‘’Unavailable’’ after entering the order details on our website, one of the below situations may occur:
1. Your phone is locked within a CDMA and not a GSM network (you can check on www.gsmarena.com if your phone is a CDMA model)
2. Your phone is not part of the networks/countries that we currently unlock
In order to receive the correct unlock code, it’s very important that you select the correct country and network you originally bought your phone from. In case you place an order with the incorrect order details, we will not be able to refund your payment.
We are constantly improving our service and we hope that very soon we will start to offer unlocking codes for devices locked to Verizon, U.S.A. such as yours.
Thank you for your collaboration and we apologize we couldn't help you this time.
Have a great day!
Kind regards,
Ionut Z.

I don't believe it would change your IMEI.
It needs an active Verizon sim in it for 24 to 48 hours before it will umlock. Once unlocked it should receive a message saying so.

not true.. i never understood why people will come in here and trust anything anyone says when it comes to sim unlocking lol..
verizon unlock policy states to prevent theft/fraud users are required to activate the device with verizon then after 60 days the device will be unlocked..
if his verizon purchased g975u was never activated on verizon then he hasnt even started his 60 day wait period.. verizon specifically implemented this policy because of people doing what the op is doing... purchase a phone for cheap somehow then use it on some other carrier/network without ever using verizon..
i am sure they had lots of theft and fraud going on with users scamming vzw devices for cheap then reselling for profit since they were unlocked theyd work anywhere out thebox so thisis their way of trying to combat that..

Thanks! I had bought a Verizon Sim, it is on the way, I think I will receive it in 2 weeks, after that we will know it the cellphone is unlockable. This is the last thing I can do, I think this cellphone is un-rootable also a pain. Another way is to use this provider, but I have not completely trust and is very expensive. https://store.unlockboot.com/remote-unlock-service/

Hello!
I found this V35 bidding on ebay which according to the seller's title it is AT&T unlocked.
Before i buy it,i want to know if i can use it in Europe..will it work for 2g,3g and 4g networks?
Do i have to flash another rom for it to work on my network?
Thanks in advance!
I bought an AT&T branded phone on ebay. It was advertised as unlocked. It wasn't and did not work with a non AT&T sim card. If you end up in that situation, it is easy to buy a sim unlock code from a service like codes2unlock.com. The phone works great seemingly everywhere! It can be rooted too if you're into that.

Oh thank you very much for this info.
Basically i don't really have it with rooting, but i was thinking of just flashing a new stock rom that could remove all AT&T bloatware.
I've read somewhere that this is possible to do via a ULM version kdz rom.

Korean V35 user here. I'm also from Europe and the phone works just fine in my country. Though, Korean software is annoying because it thinks it's constantly in roaming and is very conservative when switching networks, but I know the hardware is good because a rescan always finds me a 4G network. Anyways, I'm sure that flashing ULM rom will fix that, I just don't have the time needed to mess around with that atm.
Enjoy your new phone

It is so nice to hear that you can use it in Europe.
It's a really wonderful and hardware strong device, and on the other hand so beautiful without all these ugly notches.
It is a real shame of LG that left European market out..they always find a way to shoot theirselves on feet.
And hey..i don't own it yet,i just watched it on a bid,but thanks anyway for the wish)).
And for sure i will keep looking for it until i find one i like and can afford the cost of course, because extra cost for tax and import charges is about 70 euros more than original price.
Thank you for the infos anyway!
