It maybe something to do with what resolution you have your screen set to, by default the s8 and s8 plus are set to fullhd+

Good shout didn't think about that strange thou when using chrome i can run 4k power saving mode on also there i can change it to 8k as well but video won't play

I have a question how is it got along with google pixel HDR support?
Isn't it hardware limitation?

hi guys, gsmarena lists that the S8 can record [email protected], yes, i know that it uses the same sensor as the S7, but maybe the sensor is capable and the CPU was the limit on the S7...what you think? is this fake?
Wrong, 4K @ 30fps.
Yup only 30fps, saw a video where they were in the camera settings menu, same as the s7.
yeah, it seems they had a mistake on their site

HDR

Hi
so the s8/8+ are suppossed to support HDR mobile but neither Amazon video nor netflix - for mobile - are showing anything in HDR atm
are there any apps outthere that can play HDR content on these phones - youtube doesnt either
Would like to know too..
---------- Post added at 03:41 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:38 AM ----------
You tube HDR works on phone though pretty sure.. I did unboxing and in video had theS7 & S8 side by side playing HDR channel in same vid..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqS4FUKiNh8
sorry for being blonde but what video was that - and how do you know it plays in HDR??
for EG: on my sony TV when i play HDR videos (on netflix or amazon) the screen changes completely - the colours are warmer and the luminosity drops a lot) then when i exit the videos the screen reverts back to normal settings
is this the same case with the s8 HDR? or else how do you know you're watching HDR (for EG you know what resolution you are watching)
Im told the youtube app doesnt yet support HDR.
Have you enabled the "Video Enhancer" setting in Settings>Advanced Features>Video Enhancer? When I enabled this I noticed YouTube is brighter and more vivid... Doesn't for sure say this is HDR but it does look like it.
Netflix and Amazon are working on mobile support. There is currently no HDR streaming for our S8. Don't turn on the video enhancer, it just makes the video brighter and overly saturated, nothing to do with HDR.
You can always download the Samsung Video player from Play store and download some HDR samples to watch. I have experimented and HDR and other high quality videos only seem to play flawlessly on Samsung's own video player. It plays 4k at 60fps files with ease and HDR too.
Here is a good place to get reference quality samples. Streaming can't match them for IQ.

We just have to wait, mobile HDR support is coming. Until then just enjoy standard streaming.
I can't find Samsung Video Player on the play store. Can you link me?

Ah. Thanks!
When I try the two Sony Camp HDR v. Non HDR videos, the HDR version is more bland. Is it not decoding correctly?
Are you sure that app supports HDR videos?

I would like to know this too. I've downloaded multiple HDR videos from the site including the HDR and SDR versions of Camp and they all seem to have dull colours. Using a Galaxy Tab S3 btw, but still using the native video player. Tried using MX Player as well but same story.
There are some 4k HDR 60fps videos on Youtube, and while it might not be displaying in HDR, cranking the resolution to 1440p and brightness all the way up the videos do look purdy!

Guys it would be worth mentioning which continent and country you're from when referring to streaming services.
For instance, HDR on Netflix is not yet available in Europe (UK) even if I update the apk to version 5.0.1 manually. And I do have the Ultra HD plan to go with this.

Can confirm this also no HDR content in the UK either yet.
The samsung video app seems to not like all hdr video. It will tell you when it is in hdr though.
The Samsung video app doesn't play hdr for me.

[HDR VIDEOS] 4k HDR videos from Samsung, LG, Sony and BBC Planet Earth.

Hello.
I'm not the person who have originally written this, but i'm gonna copy and paste it from the Galaxy S8 / S8+ section on Reddit where i found this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everybody,
Here is my collection of 4K HDR videos, all working on the S8. There are 13 videos with a variety of demo material from Samsung, LG, Sony, and BBC Planet Earth.
These videos only work in HDR with the "Samsung Video Library" player (available from Play Store). This will NOT work with any other video player (MX Player, VLC etc.)
For some reason, the video player only plays in HDR when the file is in .mp4 format, and not with .mkv. This is the reason why all the demo footage online doesn't work, most of it is in .mkv format.
If you have your own HDR footage, you have to change the container from mkv to mp4 using ffmpeg before you can play it on the S8.
Make sure to increase brightness to 100% and set screen mode to "Amoled Cinema" for the best viewing experience.

Or this one: https://pastebin.com/uLUCVzit
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is the source for that: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyS8/comments/6hc534/galaxy_s8_4k_hdr_videos/ (the post was deleted for some reasons).
Watching those videos, specially the 'LG_Cymatic_Jazz_HDR10.mp4' video made my jaw drop to the floor when i was watching that with the screen brightness on 100%.
WARNING: Once you have seen HDR videos on your Galaxy S8 / S8+ phone, you will never go back to another phone without HDR and Super AMOLED screen.
Enjoy.
EDIT: I added a new MEGA link with all of the videos in one link from my own MEGA account.
hi, do you know why when i move any video from the original download carpet it doesnt play as hdr anymore? happens with all videos, if i move them back to the download carpet they play as hdr again.

Hmm, weird. I have those videos placed in my own folder somewhere on the internal storage. But they are still being played with HDR for me when I opens the HDR videos with the 'Video' app from Samsung.

Yeah. I just tried to make 2 new folders and then move the videos into the folder that is 2 folders deeper from where they was. It's still working fine for me.

Thanks for changing to mp4.
I just notice once you rename the video then the HDR will not work. HDR is there once I change back to original name.

Now it wasn't me that changed those videos to .mp4. It was the guy from the source who did it.
And also. I just tried to rename one of my HDR videos and then run that video in the 'Video' app from Samsung. HDR was still working fine here.

No idea, I got one video change name then it not playing in HDR, but after I change back it play.
Anyway I not plan to change name already, as long it play is fine.
By the way I play using Samsung Standalone Video app which need separate download at Samsung Galaxy Apps.
Very nice.
Oh, look what did pop up at SamMobile's page earlier: https://www.sammobile.com/2017/06/1...t-hdr-videos-on-your-galaxy-s8-s8-and-tab-s3/

You can watch the videos with no problems, but you wont be able to see them with HDR on those phones as they don't support it.
All i can is is WOW, makes my 4K Samsung TV seem very poor, look dynamics and colour really do surprise you and your eyes panic and adjust.

The HDR effect looks nice, but there is also a lot of vignetting/color banding (especially noticable on the Planet Earth clip with the small lizard). Looks way better on my LG OLED anyways.... But could be sloppy reencode job...

Ok, i don't have a Galaxy S6 or S7 here now, so i can't test to confirm this though.
Can someone else with access to a Galaxy S6 or S7 test some of those videos out on those phones to see if they works, or if they only works on devices who support HDR?

As you know it is being reproduced in HDR and not just good quality? Is there any symbol indicating that it is playing in HDR?
Might sound like a dumb question, but how do I confirm HDR is active? Have the S8+ and played these videos using the Samsung Video app (after setting display to max brightness and AMOLED Cinema). They do look nice, but I was not blown away. Perhaps HDR was not active?

so this just happened... 18:9 YouTube?

Watching random vids on skyrim tonight and came across this one. Noticed the weird letter box affect i was getting than noticed it's actually " full screen" screen shot for proof and video link also.. What are everyone's thoughts on why this happens and how to make it do it all the time.
Many old youtube videos i can watch at full screen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNwWkNBOqIg
For example, this one was uploaded when Youtube introduced new aspect ratio 7 years ago.
There are many videos in this 2:1 aspect ratio though.
18:9 videos and wider formats (21:9 for instance) are displayed full screen on the G6, but only if they are properly encoded format-wise. Many are not, unfortunately.
16:9 clips appear with vertical bars, that's how it's supposed to be, unless you fancy picture distortions. But YouTube doesn't allow any right now.
Theres an update coming soon to Youtube and it's supposedly adding proper 18:9 playback and 1080+1440p 60fps support.

Yeah I knew that was coming with the note 8 and the gs8 having the same display and possibly the iPhone. Just really hope it doesn't include letterbox. I mean even our phones don't record 18:9 , 2:1 so the video player is stretching them to fill the screen. Minimal loss of quality never noticeable
Using latest version of YouTube (v12.25.54) but no option for displaying 18:9 format

You said the edge supports 4k at 60fps. Which is false assuming you're talking about youtube playback resolutions.

Recording 1080p video with 60fps?

Dear community,
our HTC U Ultra cannot record 1080p with 60fps by default. However, the snapdragon 821 is capable of recording fullhd with this framerate as other phones with this cpu proof.
Is there there any way or app to enable fullhd with 60fps?
I have tried several apps like Filmic Pro, Open Camera and cinema fv-5 already and none of these apps allow to enable 60 fps.
Is there another way?
Thank you.

The google camera ports support it!
Keep in mind that you need more light. So don't expect good results in low light situations.

Thx. Have you got Oreo? Was wondering if it was anything new for the cam app.
Thank you very much madphone for pointing me in the right direction The Google Camera App with HDR+ works perfect for my needs and produces beautiful 1080p60 videos!
For videos the viewfinder works also very smooth. For pictures the viewfinder is laggy, as mentioned in the linked thread.
Video files are always safed to the internal storage but as the ulra has at least 64gb of internal storage the videos can be manually copied to the sdcard from time to time.
btw: I am aslo still on android 7.0 at the moment with a european device.

I'm only getting 30fps 1080p, I tried the google app.

well this sucks cuz this phones hardware is totally capable of 1080p 60 fps but for some ****ing reason HTC doesnt allow us !:crying:
alright so i have tried the google camera app and yes it record 1080p 30 fps even when i choose 60 fps but i did notice something really weird. when choose 60 fps the video size is always and i mean always way bigger than when i choose 30 fps i dont really know why this is the case and am really confused because i come out with 2 identical videos with the same frame rate at the same resolution and when is about more than 60% larger than the other! so i dont know howto explain that
one more thing is that it might actually be a hardware problem maybe the sensor isnt capable of 1080p 60 am just assuming as i dont really know any way if any of you guys found any thing that could help us out with this problem please let us know
and have a nice day
Maybe the metadata is just wrong. I will try later.
