Is it possible to flash the firmware of an S5 from a different region? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently purchased a Galaxy S5 model (SM-G900L) and want to flash it with the (SM-G900I) firmware. Is this possible using only Odin? No root etc?
Thanks

NO. It is not possible.

Will it just not accept the firmware or will it cause problems?

It will not accept the firmware. And if it accepts it, then all sort of problems will come. Not now, but at a later date.

It is possible. Install TWRP. Make a zip from the original rom and install it as a zip by TWRP.
Tool to create zip is:
Assayed Kitchen
Im Using the G900F Rom for an G900T3 Phone.
But you can't flash another modem, firmware or modem from another phone.

I am not so much worried about the modem it's just that the L I bought has tonnes of Korean text in places I can't change along with the apps that have no relevance to me. Flashing it with the Aussie I firmware would be really helpful just to remove that stuff.

I don't know what L means? Is it Quadcore Snapdragon?
You can't damage your phone by flashing the firmware via Zip in TWRP.
The worst case is to install the Original Firmware again.

Sorry I was abbreviating. L as in SM-G900L as opposed to SM-G900I.
You need an unlocked boot loader to use TWRP right?

Yes, you can do it by installing the correct version of TWRP by ODIN.
Maybe you'll have to acktivate the OEM Feature in the Developer Options first.

[CANADIAN] Odin 5.1.1 Bootloader & TWRP Flashable Modem - SM-G925W8 BOI6 *UPDATED*
Thanks to @risx for grabbing the OTA zip to get the stuff we needed.
Prerequisit: You must be on a 5.1.1 compatible TWRP as well as a 5.1.1 rom when flashing these packages or your going to get stuck in a binary miss match. While there is a fix for this with out the W8 5.1.1 odin packages, it takes a lot of musical flashing. So be sure to be on a compatible 5.1.1 rom, Kernel and TWRP first.
As always, you flash at YOUR OWN RISK. I will of course try to provide support if I am online, If you appreciate how much the pain in my butt was, and you didn't have to do this your self. Click Donate.
The Bootloader MUST be flashed via ODIN 3.10.X or higher. in the BL slot. Hence why its a tar. Sorry no flashables, Samsung locks the boot loader areas to everything but their own signed recovery, from their own signed update.zip
BOH8 BL
BOI1 BL
BOI6 BL *LATEST*
The modem is TWRP flashable
BOH8 Modem

Thank you so much bro, everything works like charm!!
Thanks @risx for the update.zip file. You made our day!!

No, you must be on a 5.1.1 compatible TWRP as well as a 5.1.1 rom to flash this or your going ot get stuck in a binary miss match. and there will be no fix for this untill the ODIN package is released by samsung, this usually follows days to weeks after an OTA.

this separate bootloader and modem are not for people who wish to stay stock. for you, you should wait for the ota. This is for people who are already on 5.1.1 roms who wish to have the proper bootloader and modem. There would be no purpose for you to install this if you wish to stay on rogers 5.0.2 and then get their ota when its released.
I have been having problems with the BOH8 modem and XtreStoLite 2.3
There is a delay in receiving txt & my incoming calls randomly sometimes go straight to voicemail.
I flashed back the OG2 modem and it seems to be fine now. Wondering if anyone else has this issue?

New OTA update - BuIld LMY47X.G928CXXU2A0J5 blocks recovery and root on G928C

Guys I have a G928C model which just received an OTA update of some 150MB. I can confirm that it is a fresh update which came today.
After updating I tried flashing custom recovery following the method mentioned on [HOW TO] Rooting Flashing Custom Recovery & Kernal thread. Odin fails to flash recovery, stock recovery remains. Other two images are of me trying to flash the older stock rom which gives another strange error.
Please help me out.
Did you enable the option oem unlock in developers options?
OEM unlock and usb debugging were on
MD5 of the files were ok? I assume you have the kernel/recovery specifically for your device.
No issues with MD5, kernel or recovery. Was running the device with custom recovery, kernel and root before i went back to stock and updated it OTA.
It is mentioned a few times that J5 is NOT downgradeable, so no chance to go back to you old rom!
and, if i remember right, it also has been mentioned that J5 blocks custom recovery! search in the general section!

You'll be better off trying a different forum instead of this one because we can't install a custom recovery (TWRP) on ours due to the locked bootloader.

yeah but here isn't a question of installing custom rom. im on SM-G935W8 Canadian .
i can flash the G935F but i do not want this one since its not clear what version the wificall is enabled in the rom, i did that on my note 5 and my wifi call worked even b4 that it was supported on android at my canadian carrier by month.
now the s7 edge / s7 wifi call isnt supported yet and thats why i want the T mobile one. i cant just flash the csc : contact will force close and loose network. so better a full odexed or deodexed flashable.zip rom.

Well we don't have ANY T-Mobile roms out. And we won't until we have the means to flash them.
Since we don't have a custom recovery and can't flash... it's probably not going to happen. Sorry.

Is there any TWRP or other recovery for SM-G930V

Seems like the only recovery is see in TWRP is for the edge or international versions of the model, so I'm having a hard time adding a recovery. Can anyone help??? I'd greatly appreciate it.
No...the phone just got root and the bootloader is really locked down. No one saw us getting root, so who knows what can happen.

FlashFire is the compatible recovery. There are two ROMs for the Verizon S7 Edge. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/development I have personally verified that the PlayStore ROM posted for the Edge will work on the S7 flat.
I should mention that you need to be on the U firmware prior to flashing those ROMs. The ROM also installs the G935 engineering kernel, so you need to flash the G930 boot kernel with Odin afterwards. I can make a write-up later if there is any interest.
I can even modify his ROM with the correct build.prop and kernel for the G930V.
How's the stability and finctionality?
A guide would be awesome. How do I get it up and running lol.

If you intend to root it, then you still need to use the same engineering kernel. I will say that before I rooted the U-firmware, the phone was much smoother and faster in stock form than the stock Verizon firmware.

Not just the kernel alone. Flash the U firmware and you will be able to select any band, as long as the radio is in the phone for it.

I like the simple design and battery life of this version when I had it in 2014 on a G900A. This Marshmallow and Lollipop stuff is absolute bs. Battery life on Lollipop gives me 4 hours and Marshmallow about 2 hours. I'm hoping that KK would give me better performance and battery life on this G900V.

Nope, only showed this 'Qhub' thing in device manager and didn't show in odin. Locked bootloader is called locked because it can only boot a signed, stock kernel (boot.img).
It's locked in SM-G900V by default.
CID15 means that you can unlock the bootloader and use a custom/modified kernel, if you want.
For example, it's necessary for LOS or for rooting on Android 6.0 and above.

So I could build roms if I wanted?
Or you could sell the CID15 phone to me via swappa to make a little $$$? I'm actively looking for one...
I just downgraded from BPB1 and unlocked bootloader and disabled Reactivation lock last night. CID (15) I think it's CID, but 15 none the less. Also I knew the login info for Samsung account. I believe you have to know. I still have all files, but I don't know how I'd get them to you. Also have a paid FlashFire.APK. I can also tell you what you need to fill when it comes time to flash NCG via FlashFire. LET ME KNOW, BUD. Took me months to find all files and the correct method. Now on 6.0.1. Fully rooted.
