Magnetic car mount help - LG G6 Questions and Answers

I'm considering buying a magnetic car mount for my G6 because I'm lazy and don't want to have to fit my phone into the mount I currently have, but wondered about NFC.
I've got a thin Spigen case on my vG6 (dropped it, smashed the rear glass, had it fixed, don't want to repeat that again!) so I can place the magnet on the case rather than the phone, but if I do will this block or prevent Android Pay payments while the phone is in the case? Do these magnetic mounts for that?
Anyone tried one or tips on where to place the magnet to stop this happening?
Thanks

I tried and with the magnet in the back the phone does not do wireless charging so other features might not work depending on where you stick the metal plate.

No wireless charging on mine anyway. I have the European 870 model

Wondering about the same thing. I've ordered a case with metal strip for magnetic holder, but will NFC still work?

I am using this one, NFC works just fine.
You can google or ebay 'Baseus Universal 360° Finger Ring Stand Phone Holder'

Looking for magnetic car mount system for N4

I have seen some magnets that attach to the case of a phone then connect to a metal plate on the car or one that connects to the vents of the car. Does anyone make one strong enough to securely hold the Nexus 4 with a heavy duty case?
I have Tetrax Xway http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awh6QP8-BBE
What would be even cooler, a magnetic car mount that's a charger like the mystical ORB that Google never released

Can you tell me the diameter of the circle that goes onto the back of the phone? The case I have for my Nexus 4 has circles on the back of it where the silicone skin sticks through.

I can't remember the exact sizes, but when I bought mine, it came with a few different-sized metal tabs, so you'd have a small variety to choose from.

Thanks for the excellent info. I ended up ordering the Xway, a single button to stick somewhere else, and I found an accessory pack with 6 more sticky magnets to place around!
I really need to stop buying stuff for my phone, but I swear it's addicting! :victory:

Yes, it looks like it sticks on with adhesive to the back of the phone.
Yes that is exactly how it works. The adhesive does not work on some cases so I have sometimes used crazy glue. I've tried a lot of systems for in car mounting and this is by far the best in my opinion.

X-Way is great for using vents as your mounting point, but if you want to mount it ANYWHERE you want, then get the FIX-WAY.
I have something simple and a lot cheaper, you might want to consider.
Cellet Magnetic Holder
Here's a youtube video which might explain it better:

I can attest that the magnet is extremely strong. The phone will not move at all through any bumps when driving. You stick the magnet to the back of your Nexus 4. I never took off the protective back skin that came with the nexus, so I didn't mind sticking the magnet to the back of the phone. On top of that I use the Diztronic protective case covering the back of the phone. Since that case covers the entire back of the phone, it covers the magnet and you can't even tell I have the magnet on at all. the magnet still works great through the protective case and still extremely strong.

From the reviews it is larger, but stronger maybe. I ordered one in case I can use them together or the other one is not strong enough.
I built a magnetic car dock for the nexus4 that I'm now selling.
http://www.makemobileinnovations.com/nexus4.htm
Here's a video of one of the prototypes showing how it works. The production version works the same except the magnet is stronger and it has cutouts for headphones, mic, camera, and speaker.

Does anyone know if applying the magnet directly to the back of the phone, will that STOP NFC from working?
I like the magnet idea but the location would disable inductive charging as well

The magnet does not but the metal plate on the back of the phone does break nfc. Check out this review by an n4 user:

There is a metal plate at the back of the phone or underneath the case....not a magnet...
Metal may have a better effect on inductive charging....rather than hampering it...but this is just my guess...it may disable inductive charging as well....

[Q] DIY Magnetic Car Mount?

So since the Nexus 4 doesn't slide right off the wireless charging orb at the angle it's on, it obviously either has magnets inside it or at least a metal plate of some sort, right?
I was thinking about pulling one of the plastic pieces off my dashboard, installing a relatively powerful magnet on the inside, popping it back on and just sticking the Nexus 4 to it to use as a mount. (I am aware it wouldn't charge wirelessly, that's ok)
Would that work? Or is there any reason this might be a bad idea? I just want to make sure a regular old magnet isn't going to damage it or something.
Thanks!

Decently Strong magnet + LG G2?

I bought this mount for my old galaxy s4, , and it worked fine.
It is designed so that you put a piece of high carbon metal in between the phone and the case, then you place it on the magnet and it sticks. It is a truly awesome dock, but I have a question. My S4 would not stick to it without the metal plate in the case, this phone will stick right to it without a case or the metal piece. This worries me.
Has anyone used a similar dock to this one, or can somebody let me know if this will damage my phone? I would just use it, but I heard that the camera's image stabilization is magnetic or something? I am hoping that somebody can give me some info regarding this.
Anybody?

I also found out that QI chargers, like my phone supports, also contain a fairly strong magnet to hold the phone in position. The reason my phone was sticking to the magnet dock is because the QI receptor on the back of the phone (inside the back plastic) is magnetic so it can stick to the QI charging base.
Based on my research and my own experience, I am going to assume that it is safe considering I know 3 people using the dock have not had issues and my SGS4 was fine after a few months. I guess I answered my own question. I guess I was just looking for somebody who has used the dock for a longer period of time.
Thanks
I was considering this exact car mount. Glad someone is testing it cuz i was scared about the same thing. Make sure to let us know how it is!

I use tetrax. Not sure if you have seen them. But I have been using them since my Iphone. And currently using it on my diztronic case.
However, you must place the magnet as closest to the buttons on the back side or your wireless charging wont work..
I recently purchased a similar mount that the OP posted, but with a suction mount. I haven't used it yet but will post back after using it.

Thanks arson. I don't use wireless charging, at least not yet. The dock I have has about a 1" by 2" super thin piece of metal to put in between the case and the phone. The dock technically stuck to the qi receptor, but I didn't want to do it that way. What I am trying to say is that my metal piece is going to definitely cover up some of the qi receptor, plus I'd rather thave the magnet farrtger away from my camera if possible

As long the magnet not near camera, it's fine.
I bought macro lens for smartphone and use magnet to stick on the camera. The result is, the OIS will be not working properly and the picture became blurry.
After that, I gave this lens to my little sister haha..

If the flap\cover on your case triggers the window widgets and wakes\suspends the phone then, yes, it does have a magnet in it.
Not sure how far back the practice goes, but my OG Droid used the same method to trigger Car Home when inserted into the car dock. I took the magnet out of the dock to prevent Car Home from launching.
Small high power neodymium magnets.

I have been using a Mountek (the guys who invented this) CD slot mount for three months or so, on Samsung Galaxy S3, Nexus 7 and LG G2.
No issues with magnets on any of the devices. You can wiki the topic.
Screen issues? No, we don't have CRT displays.
Storage? No, flash memory is not magnetic.
Compass? Maybe, hasn't affected me (Co-Pilot Standard, Google Navigation) YMMV
Location Services / GPS? No, GPS uses satellites.
Speakers? It has its own magnets.
Camera? If mechanical zoom, perhaps. Digital zoom, no.
While one can't believe everything on the internet, the consensus is overwhelming that magnets generally do no harm to modern smartphones. I'd be more worried about wireless charging, yet it's becoming mainstream.

You're right! I have located one small magnet
Now that I've used the iMagnet suction mount for a few days I can chime in. It didn't affect my GPS signal and it didn't affect my camera. I didn't purchase a QI charger for my Verizon G2 so I can't comment on its affect. But I do love the flexibility this mount provides since it doesn't use any gripping arms. I'm using an Incipio Dual Pro case with the round magnet between the inner and outer shell. It fits perfectly.

I have been using a QI charge rand the suction based mount like this.
Everything has been working flawless. No issues with GPS/DATA/ETC... everything still works.
No need to clip or adjust the holder for the mount. Its just put up and it works.
The only major downside? Well, two or three actually..
CONS:
1. The metal piece is small and thin. But it will still affect the way you use your case. Most cases are built to have nothing between case and phone. Even putting that slim metal piece makes it a little challenging to make just about any case sit flush. Including the Quick Window case, basic TPU case (which has worked the best), and my new incipio case.
2. Because of the metal, it usually affects NFC because it is right there. There might be a sweet spot to make it work with the metal there, but I usually have to take my phone out of the case or at least remove the metal. Main reason the cheap TPU cases work well. East on and off.
3. Pretty much the same as #2, but the metal also affects QI charging. Again, there might be a sweet spot, but I havent found it.
If you don't use NFC or use a QI charger and can deal with A LITTLE ill fitting on the case you own, then I think this is one of the best mounts out there.
I did not stick the metal I just have it loose in the case so I can remove it if necessary.

Using with magnetic mount (in a car)?

Anyone doing this (using a case with a plate in it and a strong magnetic mount in the car)?
I noticed some flip cases will wake the phone when opened so the phone prob has a magnetic sensor in it. I'm concerned a magnetic mount may keep the phone off!

Hi,
I'm using this kind of car support with my OnePlus 5 without issues till now. [emoji4]
Thanks
have been using magnetic mount on my car with multple phones in my Car for more than a year now, never had any issues.
The same here. I have been using magnetic plates with different phones (well not with OnePlus 5 because I'm still waiting for case ) and there wasn't any problems.
Yep. I use the Spigen magnetic car might (the round one). I use on my Nexus 6p and now on my OP5. I actually put it in the phone and cover it with a dBrand skin. Works perfect, no issues with phone and does not interfere with my God which I use 4 days out of the week for work, 2-4 hours a day.
I don't use a case with my phone's as I've never dropped a phone and like then naked, so the magnet is strong either the phone as a card isn't there to weaken the pull. With this setup, I have zero issues.
I've been using Tetrax Xway for years without any issues (including with my recent Oneplus 5).

Looking for an embedded magnetic wireless charging case+mount

Never got into wireless charging on my S7. Always had a magnetic mount on the vent with a metal plate between the phone and the case. Now that I'm hooked on wireless charging, I'm on a similar setup but with a wide ring magnet between phone and case so it doesn't interfere with wireless charging. My one issue is that when the phone is flat on a desk, it rocks just a little (and I like a thin case). So what I'm looking for is a thin case, with an embedded magnet (so it's a flat bottom surface) and where the magnet is in a configuration where it doesn't interfere with wireless charging (whether it's a wide ring, or a few magnet points spaced out, etc.) I've thought about digging into my case as a DIY but not there yet Pitaka MagCase looks like it would so the trick but it hasn't been released yet. Any out there that I'm just not finding?
Thanks!
And, this is on an S9 plus.
Can you post pics of your setup? I'm looking for a magnetic wireless car charger that holds up via the vent.

Search on Amazon for "Magnetic Wireless Car Charger, ELEGIANT Fast Wireless Charging Car Mount Phone Holder". Looks like it's now out of stock but there's dozens just like them. I went with something inexpensive to make sure it worked. And it did- fast charged on the mount as well as the Samsung official desktop wireless charger. Although the swivel ball joint on the vent mount was a little flimsy. I placed the magnetic ring such that the top of it was about 1/4" below the bottom of the fingerprint sensor (I spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly where the coils in the phone were; you can take a good guess by knowing that the desktop Sammy wireless charger woks with both the phone standing upright as well as on it's side and that it's got two coils).
Even though the ring is very thin, it still adds a slight bulge in the middle and makes it "wobble" a bit. I don't have the right shop equipment to shave a circular channel on the inside of the case to place the magnetic ring
Found one made by Nillkin. Have to use their own charging mount (which makes perfect sense as it uses four small magnets at four corners of the mount). Reviews aren't great, it's standard (not fast) charging, and the I like my side buttons uncovered.
Xvida makes one as well (a little bulkier than the Pitaka) but S8 is the most recent they support as of now.
hey guys,
you might wanna hold off getting the pitaka magmount, I received info from pitaka that the s9+ position of the wireless charging coil of S9 therefore the position of the built-in metal plate is different from other cases, they are still testing there new wireless charging mount, it will come out later.
I will be getting a review unit of the case later and I will let you know how I feel about the case. cheers guys.

I have the iOttie magnetic mount/quick charger in my car.
It worked really well with my S8 and note 8.
I put the small metal ring inside the case on my S9+ and it was very finicky.
Sometimes it would only charge (not fast charge) and other times it wouldn't charge at all.
I found that by placing the ring up higher near the camera, it maintained position to quick charge the phone and hold it securely.
The qi coil in the S9+ seems to be a bit closer to the camera than the other devices I've used.
I hope this helps.

Great- thanks- similar to my current setup- I'm just looking for a case where the ring is actually embedded in the case, so the back of the case is perfectly flat.
Looks like from another thread the S9+ MagCase has launched- not on Amazon yet but on the Pitaka site- would love to see a review to make sure it quick charges wirelessly (as opposed to not quick). Sounds like they had issues with magnet placement originally and that might affect it.
Nillkin makes one. It's on Amazon as well.
