Build Number and Hardware? Updates? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

My phone came with the following:
Build: NMI42B test-keys
Hardware: 1.8
So far my phone thinks it's rooted and I have not received the camera update.
Any other Build numbers/hardware the same?
Has anyone received the camera update with HDR or am I not receiving updates because of the test-keys build?

NMI54B was the update I got immediately.

Same here. Same hardware and build.

I just got a note from support saying that build NMI64C is available, but my phone doesn't show an available update. Hoping it fixes my Bluetooth issues.

No, I asked for one but given that it took several days for the initial response I doubt the response will be quick.

I was also told that that update was pushed over the weekend, no updates available on my phone...

Just an FYI to anyone following this thread NMI64C is rolling out now. I just checked and I'm downloading now... funny enough the device did a check at 12:35 EST today (or something like that) but it didn't kick over until now (2:10pm EST).

Just go in and check manually. That's what I did.

I have hardware version 1.8
Build Number NMI75B test-keys
I received two significant OTA updates since I received the phone (first one was about 900mb, the second one was considerably smaller).

That's interesting... both you and the OP has test-keys listed next to your build number.
Mine just says NMI64C

Add me to the list of test keys. My hardware is 1.8 and my build is NMI75B test-keys. What the hell does that mean? I just received this device today from a guy on Swappa. Did he modify it somehow? Will I still be able to get OTA updates?

Verizon Xoom Jelly Bean Soak Test

Invites went out today. Finally, we're getting an official Jelly Bean update 10 months after WiFi. If anyone is participating in the soak test, could you pull the OTA URL? I wonder if this will be JZO54K like WiFi or if it'll be a newer build of 4.1.2. I guess we'll see!
Thanks!
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk HD
This is excellent news of course, despite being ridiculously late arriving.
I have been running the leaked Motorola 4.1.1 JRO03H build since it dropped last June so I certainly hope its a newer build than that one.
It's actually quite stable despite some annoyances like limiting write access to the sdcard and keyboard misbehavior persisting.
The radios perform very well in this build so it will be interesting to see what changes, if any, appear assuming a new baseband is included.
How do you capture the URL?
I think it's a shame google stopped supporting the xoom. A google experience device and for a long time, the baby of android, always getting the OS updates first. Now it's just the red headed stepchild to the nexus 7 and 10. I would love to see google give us official 4.3 but that probably won't happen. If they did though, it would be really good PR and xoomers would rejoice.

When you get the OTA notification, but before applying the update, run adb logcat and output it to a text file. It'll be in there. The URL will be something like this: http://android.clients.google.com/p...signed-trygon-JZO54K-from-IMM76L.abcdef12.zip
Thanks!

There's no discussion. It'll be newer. It'll either be JZO54K like Wi-Fi or a newer build of 4.1.2 that we haven't seen yet (unlikely). I'm sure there will at least be a new CDMA baseband if not a new LTE baseband as well. I say this because the original leaker of that 4.1.1/JRO03H build had a newer CDMA baseband in his screenshot that no one had ever seen before (03.1A.66SP), but his LTE baseband was the same as the IMM76L ICS build.
Speaking of that leaked 4.1.1/JRO03H build, it looks like it was just the Wi-Fi build with the LTE drivers dropped in for testing.
The leaker claimed that Verizon had signed off on it but I don't buy it for two reasons. First, it was never released. Second, that build has a major DRM bug. Google Play Movies won't stream content when using that build because either the DRM keys are hosed or the build itself has something turned on that makes the app think the ROM is rooted.
As for how he got it, he said his own Xoom had the build installed by Motorola development. That much I do believe due to the fact that he had a CDMA baseband that no one else had ever seen.

Nope, your bootloader can remain unlocked. As long as you're running the stock ICS 4.0.4/IMM76L firmware, you'll get the update when they finally do roll the soak test out. Do you know how to pull an update URL, or do you need me to provide you some quick steps?

Anyone else get a software update today? I just got my phone in the mail and was surprised it updated. Any one know where I could find the change log?

I was working on the review of the device and now I have to wait till my device gets the update
will it fix the lag issues ?
I have had no lag issues with the device so far. Been using it all night. Only ever used it with B140
Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
No real lag issues here either, but I don't use my phone as a PC. Hell I'm even running smart mode and no issues.
Has anyone tried to pull the update file so that it can be uploaded to XDA?
Same here, no lag issues at all. As soon as I got the phone I did eliminate animations and set power saving to normal. No lag and battery life is excellent. My old HTC One + needed 2 full charges to get through the day. On this I get a full two days.
I have a 0.5 amp desktop USB - I know almost useless, it came with my bluetooth headset. I am too lazy to crawl under the desk and replace it. A few hours during the day and the Honor is topped up. I don't charge at night anymore. Nor forget to charge at night.
Can you post a TWRP recovery of the update?

New Update - May 4th

Just received a notification for an update. I have not installed it yet. The change log says an FM radio option has been added as well as a security update. Does anyone have any feedback on this update before I go ahead and install?

Yes, the NextRadio app works and FM chip works.
I work in suburb, so not many stations could be picked up, but I could listen to couple of stations. (With T-mobile's music freedom, the use will be quite limited, BUT if I go to a place where T-mobile signal is weak and there are FM stations, why not...)
I updated also, seems there is no visible difference. Haven't really tried the fm. On another note i was hoping my music stored on device in playlist from itunes (used iSync) would fix the issue i have where sometimes songs skip to a random song in the playlist even when random is not selected. Other times i'll play a song and 3 secs. in it skips to another track. Quite annoying...

So, from big 4, T-mobile appear to be the one who appear to be on the ball with keeping up with the update.
That said, I did read that AT&T version of S7 does have FM chip enabled anyways.
Uk vodafone here, i had the a update early this morning but haven't noticed any difference

I know, I have been waiting for the latest update because my phone has frozen a couple times lately and battery life seems to be worse. I did try clearing cache and disabling apps, but this doesn't help too much. So I was going to factory reset but wanted to wait for the update and then do it. At this point it may not be worth waiting.

You know what? I'm not sure now. I could've sworn I read an article saying there was, now the only reference I find is for T-Mobile S7's getting a performance update.
I was on rooted stock PI2 and accidentally said OK to the OTA and it sent my phone into bootloop. Had to start from scratch.
Is the current root stable enough to use as a daily driver?

Essential Service update available

Just for info
New update to Essential Services on playstore now, 2nd October.
Anybody know what the Services are for?
Edit: Says Bug and performance fixes. Maybe firmware related?
I just got my essential phone off of swappa and it's running build "NMI75B test-keys". For some reason I am unable to update any system apps via the play store while on this build. Camera, Essential Resources, and Essential Services are all showing updates available, but every time I've tried to download them I get error code 505. I think there is something with this test build firmware that is preventing me from updating system apps via the play store. Every other app (150+) that I have installed has worked flawlessly.

Build NMI75B is not an official build from Essential. The device in reference from the XDA link is using incremental beta SW in test - 64C is the official release build at this time but we will be releasing another public SW update within the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
