Question about root timeframe - LG V20 Questions & Answers

So now the v30 is announced now and will soon be available to purchase my question is in regards to LG root time frame on new devices. I know each device can have it's own time before root can be achieved, Based on the V10 and V20 root method how long generally does it usually take to find out if root is even possible?
1) in past experience between V10 and V20 how long was it generally from release date to root method? few weeks, months?
2) has G6 been rooted at all? gives kinda an indication if root would be possible in V30
Thanks for the help, again, not asking a ETA or anything like that, just want to know on past experiences with the V10 & V20 how long it took before root was possible and if root is even possible or not.

If you get a V30, you might want to get the carrier free model straight from LG. No carrier branded LG G6 has been rooted yet, and since even T-Mobile no longer allows the bootloader to be unlocked, even if a kernel exploit is found (like dirtycow), you will also need someone to leak a engineering bootloader like they did for the V20. If someone wouldn't have come up with the eng. aboot, the only two V20s that would have root are the H918 and US996.
Have a look-e-see yourself: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/development
The only model that has root is the US997 carrier free version that LG allows for the bootloader to be unlocked.

Get used to the idea root aint happening. If it does, its a bonus. You are looking at it wrong.
Or, get an HTC.

Root on LG V10 AT&T

Wrong thread for this device, I know, but does anyone here know if the root method for this phone will work on the LG V10? I mean it took months to get root on LP, and for the few of us who updated to MM, now we have no root now. Its been MONTHs since MM came out and no root. (Funny story, so I needed to get phone turned in because headphone port can only hear out of one ear, without applying immense pressure, so I needed to unroot and update to latest firmware to turn it in for insurance. Only way to see how much it was going to cost was to actually take it to a store. Went there, was told it would cost 300 dollars. 300???!? Nope. So now I am stuck on MM 6.0 with **** LG stock skin. *cries silently*)
There is not a root method for the V20 yet. The only thing we have is an unlocked bootloader on the T-Mobile variant.
Edit: Let me rephrase that, there is not a root method that is widely available for every device as of yet. The T-Mobile version has root but it most-likely will not work with your device.
Thats one of my holdups for going with the V20. ATT is the worst on updates and I will not buy one that cant be rooted and have SU permissions.

AT&T G6 Root?

Is there such a thing? If not is it possible there will be in the future?
the first g6 variants to see a root will be the bootloader unlockable versions (not att).
the non-unlockable versions can all be grouped into another category.. so a root that works for say... Verizon G6 will also most likely work on AT&Ts, Sprints, etc. So.. if/when you see the non-unlockable variants getting root.. your phone should also be able to get root.
It's impossible to say whether a root or bootloader unlock exploit will be made public for the locked LG G6 variants until it happens.

New AMZM prime LG G6 Plus H870DSU, Root possible?

I just saw a post about a new prime phone from Amazon, and I was curious if there has been any luck rooting these AMZN based devices?
I really like the G6, but having access to the US unlocked GSM device AND the quad DAC would be perfect for me.
But I gotta have root. So any threads on other devices, or any insider information on whether these Amazon devices have unlocked bootloader's?
https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/26/amazon-lg-g6-prime-discount/
I'm waiting for the unlocked US998, but I would be okay with a quad DAC G6, too. As I don't mind waiting 6 mo the for the V30's to drop in price.
I am also wondering the same thing. Has the LG G6+ been rooted?
You are never going to see an official bootloader unlock for the Amazon devices, because their marketing model is "discount phone with ads." Bootloader unlock would allow you to circumvent the ads by rooting and/or flashing a different ROM, so Amazon would not offer the phone this way without an agreement from LG not to unlock these phones. Other devices Amazon sells this way are pretty tightly locked down, and their communities have not had a lot of success breaking into them.
Bottom line is, it's not coming any time soon, if at all, so don't buy the device assuming that you'll someday be able to root it.
Anybody tried flashing a different stock ROM to the phone using Uppercut yet? I'm wondering if you could just flash the international firmware to the phone if the phone would accept it since it's recognized in LG UP with no issues and shows up as the international version too. Since it's a signed firmware I've gotta believe that if you can't ever unlock the bootloader that you could at least flash a stock LG international firmware file to it.

Not gonna happen unfortunately...not unless someone gains root access to the device and then uses something like FlashFire to hot-flash a custom ROM onto the device. That would be our best hope. That being said I'm still using my LG G6 since Amazon removed ads from all Prime devices free of charge (except for Kindles and such) and my phone is better than ever now. I plan on getting at least a year of use out of it and then upgrade to something with a Snapdragon 845 CPU inside it.
Alright guys...im trying to root my H870 AT&T G6 thinq and Idk what I'm doing wrong. I downloaded the files I need and tried getting it into fastboot mode and it just reboots and turns on. I tried adb reboot recovery and of course with no recovery yet it goes to no command. Does anyone have a better way then using adb? I attempted to use kingoroot but I don't read Chinese so I have no idea what it was saying lol
As has been said elsewhere, the European H870 and US 997 are the only ones that are rootable.
There is not and will not be a root for any of the other variants. There is some chat about it on the forums but realistically there will not be any other rooting method other than the official LG route.

Still waiting for a Root (LG K425) K10

A couple people in this thread for the LG K10 said they are getting closer for this model, any update on this model, would love to root it.
Ur bootloader is unlocked ?
Me too; I really don't care about the bootloader being unlocked but at least if I could have factory firmware without all the ATT bull**** installed, that would be great. What would be insanely good is if someone could figure out how to get the TMobile firmware on this guy so I can use LTE-Voice and WiFi calling.

Make DirtySanta unofficial unlock work on LG G5

Hi!
Since LG shut down their services to officially unlock boot in December 2021, we have to deal otherwise.
In the past DirtySanta was able to unlock LG V20 H990 independently. We need to expand this method for ours LG G5, including H850 and others. These phones are similiar and comes from the same period, it might be possible.
[ROOT] DirtySanta comes for the H990
Took a while to work things out, but DirtySanta has been successfully extended to international versions of the LGE V20. While I have tried to ensure this works for anyone, this may fail. I also do not provide any warranty! The result of a...

For now this seems as the best option.
It seams it was already adapted to branded versions of LG G5, can it be used on rest of them?
[GUIDE] Full ADB Root, System RW, and DM-VERITY Off for Sprint LG G5! [ZV4]
UPDATE Thanks to thjubeck for testing this, it seems that this userdebug kernel actually works on all devices running antirollback v0 and running Marshmallow! I only have the Sprint variant, so be careful!!! Enjoy root guys :D A bit of a...

Good to know someone did it !
I'm stuck with locked bootloader and from my searches, LG does not want to deal with only a few people asking stuff about a 5 years old devices.
Keep me informed if there's some news !
I like this idea and would really appreciate bootloader unlock for H850 international models
I would love that as well, I'm trying to get a G5 H850 refurbished. It makes me reallly angry at LG, because without custom ROMs this phone is just landfill material.
Please kind developers,, help us save this phone from the trash!
