Clarity/resolution - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Real Life Review

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Last time i had a Sony device was my beloved Xperia Play. I know that that 2011 generation had already a screen protector applied in their screens, although very thin. Can somebody confirm if xz1 compact still has it? Or if Sony still put a screen protector in their phones these days at all?

They stopped doing that with the Z3 Compact. I'm rather sure the XZ1 Compact does not a screen protector pre-applied.

Thank u man, that is a very helpful info. I kept 2 screen protectors for 1 year on my xperia play (with obviously lag touch), before realizing there was already a screen protector. I don't want to do the same mistake, since I will probably going to go back to mama Sony with this Compact...

My Z3C came with a screen protector in the box, but I had to apply it myself. I remember reading that some of the Z3C included a screen protector in the box while others didn't. Probably depends on the region.

high pixel blurriness. waters eyes and makes headaches.

Screen protector

Hi,
I just bought the Xperia Z2 Uk model off the internet today. I wanted to know if there is a screen protector already applied to the phone or will I have to apply myself. I know there is some in the box.
My current Sony Xperia Arc already had a screen protector applied from factory.
There is none on mine - I think Sony stopped putting factory screen protectors on their phones.

I can confirm, on Z2's screen there is no factory foil, if you want, you can apply protector on your own.
sony has stopped using the screen protector on z2.. so you need to apply the one that came in the box

Oily Screen

Anyone else noticing that the Z3C is super hard to clean? The screen seems resistive to cotton cloths more than previous phones I've used. Know of a better way to extract all the oil from the screen?

Using a screen protector doesn't help remove oil off the screen, it only helps prohibit it.

I found this to be very annoying with my z1 compact, so when I got my z3 compact from clove I thought I would give Crystalusion a go.
I can't be happier with this decision. It goes on easy, I put it on and left it overnight, didn't touch the phone until 12 hrs later.
The phone feels insane, like the smoothest surface I have ever felt! Finger prints and oil are reduced by what I would say to be 90% and what little marks do remain, they come off with just a quick and light wipe over.
I have now ordered 3 double packs to coat all the phone screens that my family own and save the remainder for future applications on my z3 compact.
One cloth of crystalusion is good to cover the front and back of the z3 compact, plus the screen of a tablet or another 2 phone screens.
3 weeks so far and also no micro scratches that plagued my z1 compact.

I would love to hear from you if the phone is more slippery then before you applied the Crystalusion? The Z3 is slippery as it is and i would not want to make it even more slippery.
I use 3M microfibre cloth (High performance cloth) and a little diluted dish washing liquid (10:1 mix of water to dish washing liquid).
The key is to spray a little on one corner of the cloth, wipe the screen with the wet portion, then follow through with a dry side of the cloth to clean up.
Same formulation and parts I use for cameras lens and general LCD cleaning.
I findone very easy to clean, easier than my iPhone, however much more slippy also
@ OP I find it strange. I am much happier with this screen compared to my XC1. The anti shatter film on that really irritated me and am much happier without it. I find this one stays clean by itself the whole time.
I find a lot of threads here unnecessarily negative about this phone. Best I have ever owned.

I would say that it feels more sleek, clean, stealth and sexy.
Slippery with phones is just a figment of people's imagination!
Phones are designed to be grasped on the outer edge, drawing the inner edge into the palm. The edges of the z3 are rubber with (compared to the screen) a very slight texture, you'll only do the phone (and any phone) if you're just careless!
Around the home I keep my z3 compact naked, it's just too awesome not to.
When I go out, there is greater risk in being out in a harsher environment so I slip on my clear Ringke fusion case so I can place my phone on the desk at work, the dashboard of the car etc but am rest assured that I have the extra protection for the numerous times and ways that I use the phone when I'm out.
By the way, my wife just got an iPhone 6, which I was considering however I am super glad I got the z3 compact. It's nicer and better in every way.
The best phone I've ever seen or used! Any issues that plagued the z1 contact are gone and improved in every way ☺
Thanks for the replies, I'll have to take a look into some of these solutions.

Back Frosted glass(awesome)

I just got my amazing z5 graphite black and it really feels good in my hands! My first impression it have a very good screen saturation more than another xperia smartphones more smooth and look so classy! Anyway I really enjoy with it. Anyone love the back frosted glass like me? Does it will get scratch easily or not? It seems like it hard to scratch it i don't want to use the case or screen protector on the back! And in the front i already got tempered glass screen protector!
Regards, :thumbup::thumbup:
Since your post I'm actually thinking of taking my screen protector off the back so would welcome any thoughts on scratches also

So the Z5 isn't slippery?
I think not easy to slip off like older xperia
So how is the frosted back holding up being naked? Scratches galore like the Z3 or no?
An I the only one who doesn't like the displayaat all? Just because the blacks doesn't look black.
I wish it had super AMOLED panel.
Held one instore, still feels quite slippy
I've been running without protection on the back for almost two weeks now, I see no scratches and quite impressed, admittedly I've been conscious not put it in the same pocket as my keys though it has happened. I have back cover coming so it will be protected soon.
I also suffered a drop yesterday the screen held up unlike my Z2 which cracked and made half the screen unfunctional, but I still put faith in Sony and got another Z when this came out.

Well I have only had mine for a few days so it's a little too early to tell, but so far so good.
I had the gold version, and it looks amazing. I went for gold this time as all my previous Z phones (Z,Z1,Z3) have been black.
I had to get a case for it, but I wanted to still be able to show off the phone, so I got an ultra slim, clear gel case from eBay.
The gel case doesn't crack and fall apart if you drop the phone, nor does it mark the phone casing, so it's great.
You can hardly tell I have a case on it.
I do very much like the frosted back, it does look really smart.

Nope, unless they were lubricated. Only ever owned an Xperia SP and I found that absolutely fine. Might be quite close to an iPhone 6 - I'll compare tomorrow (iPhone 6 at work).
EDIT: Z5 rear confirmed slippier than iPhone 6 rear.

No scratches so far but then again it doesn't go into my pocket with anything metal. Seems resilient though.

Bingo.
The back does not scratch very easily on a table like the z3,
I think its because on the z5 the metal frame of the phone sticks out past the frosted glass, so on a flat surface it does not touch the table.

Quality feel (use of materials)

Rate this thread to express how you think the LG G7 ThinQ feels in terms of quality. A higher rating indicates that it feels premium and high-quality (attention to detail is high, manufacturing defects don't exist, etc).

The device feels premium, and comfortable to use with one hand. However, I don't suggest that anyone use this device without a case and screen protector. I haven't been using my device for a full 24 hours, and already have cosmetic scratches on the front screen. I don't know how or when it happened, but I see that this Gorilla Glass 5 isn't quite prone to scratches.
My IQ Shield screen protector is coming in the mail today, and I am going to install it as soon as I can. I typically don't like tempered glass because I don't really like the feel of them.

Really? I have been using it without any screen protector for 5 days now. No scratches at all on the front screen despite my kind of rough use. I do recommend a case though. The phone is really slippery and prone to finger prints.
I havnt scratched the screen but i have a tiny nick on the aluminum right next to the camera thats now silver and yeah how the hell did that happen. I have a tech 21 case and everything. Be careful the aluminum

I feel for you friend. I have been using my old Note3 without any case or screen protector and never even a single scratch on screen. And damn it, I got 3 DEEP scratches on this device on the next day of purchase. I felt so upset. Please anyone who owns this device, use a screen protector ASAP.
Quality is top notch. Doesn't feel slippery without the case on, as coming from the LG G4. The Platinum Grey feels more beautiful under the sun.
It's just as you'd expect from a flagship phone.

The device comes with matte plastic mounted to the LCD . It makes very low quality of the display. I still wait for glass and will not remove plastic to this moment .

I dont think that plastic is to be used.. its only for protection till first use, because as you said, it makes screen look horrible. Just take it off
that plastic is to protect it from scratches during shipping. but the actual display is awesome. a little warm in color temperature by default, but u can adjust it from settings. otherwise its bright and crisp enough for on the go media consumption and comics/ebook reading.
