PSA- Root is Out for All USA S8's & S8+'s - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Just a heads up guys Root is out for the S8+ and the S8 on all carriers in the USA! Head over to the main forums and check it out. Figured I'd post this here to give people some guidance before this possibly gets patched up.

Is this a permanent root with no issues?

everyone either already knows this already or our AT&T section is just dead lol.

Verizon S5

I'm posting this new thread because I cannot find any information on development for the Verizon version of the s5. I have the Geo root but there are no roms that I can find, themes or really anything at all. Does anyone out there care to address this other than just telling us users that are under contract to switch carriers etc.?

Don't know what else you expect anyone here to say.
How about looking over on a Forum here specifically for the Verizon model. I see Beans, our Tmob guru posts there including a ROM....Have you even looked there?

Root Unavailable for s7 Edge (Snapdragon)

I've rooted every phone I've owned and was expecting to do the same with my new s7 Edge (Snapdragon on android 6.0.1). After much google searching/reading I want to confirm that not only is there no root but there likely will be no root because of a locked bootloader?
Are you able to root the S7? I may switch to that if so.

I did see it, I'm just in disbelief/denial. I love this phone and now I think I'm going to return it
I think it's safe to say that by the time root is available for this phone the s8 edge will be coming out lol

Here's a link for you to go explore the xposed forums that you failed to read.
Xposed has been around quite a bit longer than the S7. And simply because you are "in disbelief" or "denial", doesn't change the ability to read all the threads for xposed, and all that has been posted quite a bit before the s7 was mentioned.
ENOUGH! Unless you want this thread moved to the Asperger's section you guys are way off topic.
OP, you have your answer. There is no ETA for root. There probably won't be root at all.
My opinion which was inspired by my own perspective is that if you were able to find the forum, you could have taken at least FIVE minutes to read on the progress of root. It seriously would have taken less time to search than to start a new thread. Most of us on here are hoping, wishing, begging and even praying for root access. We've been following the results closely and some of us are even risking our own devices out of desperation to acquire to what has only have been complete failure so far. So with that being said, we're all a bit edgy. So on behalf of the forum, please just accept this as our excuse and most formal apology for any "rudeness" or "inconsiderate" responses to your inquiry. For future reference, all XDA members are encouraged to search prior to starting a new thread for the very reason of avoiding situations such as this. You've been a member for five years and so far have had 50 posts, 10 threads and two of those (threads) are the EXACT same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/external-usb-keyboard-mouse-htc-10-t3406812 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/external-usb-keyboard-mouse-htc-10-t3406655 posted about five hours apart. (How do you even do that?)
So in conclusion, it's unfair to be defensive when in all honesty all of this could easily be avoided by using the forum for it's very purpose which is to gather and share information to each other, not to have everyone research for you.
Sorry if this was long winded, but I felt that it was necessary to say.

To answer your question I had no idea I double posted that thread, I don't even know how it happened lol
I actually did a lot of searching on this forum before posting, honestly there's just no obvious post title's that talk about root for the s7 edge snapdragon. Go check it out, search "root access", "root", "s7 edge root" on these forums and see what you come up with, the thread titles definitely do not indicate that root is discussed within them (for snapdragon).

If there was root then there would be a "HOW TO ROOT" guide. It's how it's always been. But stating that you searched and somehow didn't pick up the obvious that it isn't possible (yet) is only going to get you flamed. Members only assume that you're either trolling or at the very best too lazy to search it out. There are several threads and comments regarding lack of root. There are petitions and bounties for it as well. So you still defend that with all of your searching you didn't see ANY of that? That's what most of us find hard to believe.

Snapdragon 820-based models in the US including SM-G930A/T/P/R/V
These devices have a locked bootloader (including even the T-Mobile version) and cannot be rooted at this time."
I spent exactly 5 minutes getting all of this from my phone.
There's no way you could have missed it.

Your post really drives my point home.
I was looking/searching for s7 edge root information. The only logical place for me to search these forums is in the "s7 edge" forums. Many of the links you gave below are in the S7 forum; why would someone search in the s7 forum for information on the s7 edge? They wouldn't...But here's the actual issue, the rest of the links you gave either do not show up when you search the forum for "root" or they are buried so far into the search it's not practical to find it. Again, try it yourself. go to the S7 edge page here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge
and do a search for "root" and see what you get. Can you honestly not see how these search results do not lead to a definitive answer? To prove my point even more, I actually typed in one of the titles you gave below, "Root and unlocked bootloader update" into the search box and it didn't even bring that thread up after searching the title directly. Maybe the search is broken. Try it yourself, it doesn't work.

You're just making excuses. You failed to search and read. We're not going to open more threads discussing how rooting is NOT possible when it should be clear for anyone with common sense would see that if it WAS possible, there would be guides to do it. You don't need to post a thread asking for something that doesn't exist when it clearly isn't otherwise there would be guides, roms, kernels, recoveries, themes, mods, etc. You don't see any of that because they don't exist. They don't exist because there's NOTHING TO GIVE! Not sure why the concept is so difficult to grasp though. The S7 and S7 Edge (Qualcomm) is almost identical with the exception of the screen. Neither of which has root.
But I gave your search a try. Under S7 Edge forum. I searched for "Qualcomm root" and resulted in:

lol, seriously man. You really think someone who just bought an s7 edge looking to root would know to search for the term "Qualcomm"? That's the first I have ever heard that term, I searched "root" and even knew to search "snapdragon". The search you used is only obvious after you know more than the average person about the s7 Edge.
But anyway let me make sure I have everything straight now:
Searching "root" in the S7 Edge forums may not yield the results you are looking for because the S7 Edge is also known as the Snapdragon and may at times also be referred to as the Qualcomm or Qualcomm S7 Edge but can be more commonly referred to as MODEL TYPE: SM-G935P however depending on the locale of purchase it will be referred to as the Exynos which is the international version MODEL TYPE: (SM-G935T) of the snapdragon QUALCOMM s7 "edge" SM-G935P and contains a Samsung processor instead of the Snapragon but may be confused with the identical model (except for the screen) which is the s7 and also has a counterpart in Europe and like it's edge sister model has a locked boot-loader which prevents it from gaining root access unlike the overseas version which is currently unlocked and is able to be rooted so when you see threads talking about the SM-G935T Exynos root then you should know that it's not necessarily referring to the version of phone you have although it may be if you purchased it online through a third party with an unlocked sim card.
It's all very obvious to anyone with common sense.

Yet you still made this thread. For what purpose though? Did you expect your thread to remind us, "Oh! That's what we're missing! Let's create a 'How to root' thread so that people can figure out how to root it because we all know how incapable the forum is without a guide."
For one thing, the forum is very capable. This is how we acquire root access in the first place. Smart ones acquire root and make a guide for the rest of us (dumb ones) so that we can have root as well. If the "smart ones" haven't created a guide for us "dumb ones" (ie the rest of us) then clearly it's not available. But like you said, you're in denial. So in your eyes, we should definitely have root but for some reason it's not being shared with the rest of us. So what do YOU do to fix it? Post a thread to remind everyone that there isn't a root guide. That. That right there is what perplexes me and I'm 100% certain that I'm not alone. Now I'm not trying to be rude but please search, research and read prior to starting a thread. ONLY create a thread if after a LOT of searching and posting in relevant threads you still come up empty. You've created 10 threads with 50 posts. Two of which are duplicate somehow. No including the threads started or your defensive responses here, that's 40 posts. That's a 20% "I can't find it so I'll ask the forum to give it to me instead of searching more" ratio. I'm a retired forum moderator, former developer, regular contributor and I only have 51 threads to my 5,600 post count. since 2009. That's a 1% "Let me start a thread for this" ratio for a moderator / developer. On average, that's 5 threads a year as a moderator / developer. See where I'm going with this? There is almost nothing new that hasn't been mentioned or discussed somewhere within this forum. You just need to take the time to find it instead of just jumping to start a new thread. This is actually a forum rule. Number #1 to be exact. I'll post the link just in case you can't find it either.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=256
So with that being said, please take time to search and read prior to posting new threads.
Again, I'm not trying to be disrespectful. Simply acknowledge that you should spend more time searching, reading, researching and participating in other threads prior to creating new ones. We're trying to reduce clutter and needless threads such as this. Moderators are constantly trying to clean and close them when they should be focusing on more important issues within the forum. We're all doing our part to help out in this forum but while I've spent at least a collective helping you for something that you really could have done for yourself, I could have been focusing on more important issues. I simply could not go without trying to give you sound advice before getting majority of the forum upset at you. Which WILL happen if you're not careful.
Best wishes and good luck. I'll be reporting this thread for closing if that's okay?

How would I switch T-Moblie S7 Edge to Verizon?

I know this is probably already posted somewhere, but I'm new and I have tried to find something answering this question, but I feel like a blind man trying to read a map. I just bought a T-Mobile S7 Edge off of a friend, because the touchscreen stopped working on my S6. I have been using a back up old flip phone for the past week, and when i tried to add the T-Mobile S7 Edge to my account, it cant find the phone via the IMEI. The phone is permanantly unlocked. I know that T-Mobile uses GSN, and Verizon CDMA, but from the things that I have found, it is possible to get it switched over. I just haven't figured out exactly how to do it though. The few things that I find don't really tell me exactly what I need to do. I currently have the SM-G395U build on the phone. Can someone please tell me what I need to do in order to switch m phone over? Or at least point me in the right direction please? The flippity-flip is making me want to shoot myself. You would be helping me out so much you have NO IDEA! PLEASE HELP!! Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section, but I felt this would be a good place to start.
Thanks in advance.

Enabling USB Debugging While FRP Locked?

First of all, let me just say that you guys rock.
I've been coming here a loooooong time for any and all of my cell needs.
I rarely have to post, and so I rarely do. If you ask a question that has been answered already somewhere on the forum, someone is always ready and willing to point it out and make you feel .... well....inadequate.
So I do a LOT of research before I decide to pipe in.
I have a Samsung S7 (Sprint) SM-G930P with Nougat 7.0 installed on it. I bought it at the flea market this passed weekend for $15. Hell of a deal I thought. He told me it was FRP locked. That was why so cheap. But I said, XDA has all the answers, this is no problem.
There is a problem.
I have looked and looked here, and on google, and youtube.... no one seems to want to address the issue of not being able to enable USB Debugging while FRP locked. Or if they have, I have missed it (and someone will more than likely point out that fact!)... Lol!
How in the hell do I downgrade to 6.0, flash anything period or access ANYTHING via Odin without my PC being able to connect or see this phone? I can't use RealTerm either so no help there.....
Anyone??

FRP lock is a security feature that prevents a lost or stolen phone from booting. It is there to protect the phone and original owners information and make the phone unusable to anyone after. I'm pretty sure XDA doesn't allow such talk since we would be helping you get into a possibly stolen phone. There are solutions, XDA just isnt the best option to discuss stuff like this
If someone wants to ask questions who are you to judge someone who asks questions. We are all here to learn. Prove that he is shady and trying to do illegal activities before you start bashing someone

Xda is the place to learn everything about rooting and removing security features. That's what development is about. We bypass security features so the phone makers can know which ways to secure their software. This is what development is. If you are a bully on here then you should be banned

Android Update for Samsung Tab E T377A

I hope I am doing this right. I may be asking a question that has already been asked. I looked through all of the previous posted forums and was not able to find the answers that I need. They may have been available but I just didn't understand them as such. I am just now getting into this so I am not very tech savy lol. I am sorry and ask if you could just please bear with me. I bought an AT&T samsung tab e t377a at a pawn shop ( probably not a good idea). But all I intended to use it for was on my home wifi. A couple of years ago I went through a terrible experience due to a stalker that had had personal access to my home network. Ever since then I have became extremely security conscious with my devices. From what I understand this tablet has several security vulnerabilities due to the fact that it's not getting the security patches that it needs because it is no longer receiving updates. Right now this is where it stands...
Android version.... 6.0.1
Baseband version.... T377AUCU2APJ2
Build number.... MMB29K.T377AUCU2APJ2
Android security patch level.... October 1, 2016
From what I understand I need android 7. I became interested in rooting this tablet but it looks like there hasn't been a method developed yet that I am comfortable with. Everywhere else that I have pursued answers from has suggested that I may have to purchase a service plan from AT&T in order to get on to their servers before I can get the update to secure this device. Thats bullcrap! I would think that Samsung would provide better allocations. I may be way out of line but I know personally how much the security of these devices matter. Is there any other way for me to obtain the update?? I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!
Reply
If I went about this wrong or inappropriately I do apologize. I did search this site prior to posting for the answers I needed to prevent posting a repeated question but as far as my understanding goes...I couldn't find any. If I posted this in the wrong forum could someone please tell me where I need to post it? I have really researched the sources available involved with technology. This site seems to be the most reliable regarding androids. But due to what all I went through I feel that we may have almost took the advancement of technology too far beyond our own limits. I think offensive security and becoming educated as much as possible about all of your devices is the only true security that you can obtain. If anyone has any advice on how I could update my tablet without going through AT&T or could tell me where else I could look I would greatly appreciate it. Thank yall!
Also...if I am incorrect about my device and what I am needing please let me know.
