[Q] What order to upgrade, root, recovery ...

Hello ..
I am getting my Grand 2 today.
I am familiar with flashing, rooting, backing up, etc ..
I have done this all before with my Galaxy S3 ..
but, its been awhile ..
so, I have a few questions about the order in which to do things.
Here is to order I am planning on doing things .. is this correct?
I think my Grand 2 will have Android 4.3 out of the box. so ..
1st ... I will upgrade to 4.4 via Kies
2nd ... I will root using Odin .. and the CF method
3rd ... I will load SuperUser and BusyBox from the Play store
4rth ... I will flash CWM
(can I just get this from Play store? I have purchased the touch recovery previously and am used to the layout)
5th ... I will back up the Stock 4.4 Rom ..
and that's it ..
Is this the correct order to do things?
Should I make a recovery using the Stock Recovery before I root?
Or should I (can I) download CWM from the Play store and then make a recovery image? ..
Thank You for your help ..
I know all this is covered in various threads through out this forum ..
and I have read/bookmarked them all .. but, want to just verify that I am on the right track
THANK YOU
Before everything Have the firmware downloaded ! If u have the firmware in ur hands and if u know how to flash it then u don't need to worry abt anything and unlike s3 grand 2 doesn't have Flash counters

First of all as Sanjuujosephh said you should download a firmware and then if you are rooting with CF root then there is no need to download supersu from play store . You can't get CWM from play store coz it is not available officially here's a link to unofficial CWM

No this only works for phones which have official CWM recovery our phone doesn't have any ...and again i recommend downloading a firmware if you live in india then here's the link to latest firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/general/stock-firmware-grand-2-google-drive-t2849501
And if you don't then you can request your firmware here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-grand-2/general/request-firmware-t2884198
Edit :- these are links for resumable download you can download them from www.sammobile.com
I did not know about the "official/unofficial" CWM issue.
Many people recommend Philz Recovery instead ..
can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct zip for Philz?
I found a link for Philz recovery for 4.3 ...
would that work for 4.4?
My country is not listed on the SamMobile site ..
I am off to get the phone now ..
I will check the PDA and CSC versions when I get the phone . .
hopefully I will find a match ..
also .. I see some of the versions are listed .. 4.2.2, 4.4.2, 4.4.4 ... etc ..
I am assuming I will need to use the correct version as well ?
...
Unfortunately I don't know about philz recovery coz i haven't used it personally but if you want then..Here's the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53747111&postcount=3
And the latest version is 4.4.2 and build NH6 (in INDIA ) i can't tell about your country bcoz you still haven't mentioned it...

I am in Thailand
I do not see any numbers that look like the PDA/CSC codes on the SamMobile site ..
My phone says ..
Model Number ... SM-G7102
Version 4.4.2
Baseband G7102DXUBNH1
Build Number KOT49H.G7102XWUBNH1
On the CF root files I see different versions NH1, NG4, NH6 ...
do these matter ? .. or can I use any of them?
Thanks

[Q] Galaxy Note N9100 (China Dual SIM Model) Root

Hi All,
Firstly SORRY for posting here. This should be in the dev thread, but I have no rights there.
I am unable to post to post in the developer thread (being newly registered) and I am hoping Chainfire can provide a root for the Galaxy Note 4 SM-N9100 China model. He has requested that the recovery.img file from the phone model's stock ROM be attached. He has already provided the root for a few other files but I see in another post, he didn't do it for this one because he couldn't download the firmware easily. I have downloaded the stock firmware and extracted the needed file.
If someone with dev posting rights can help post the attached file to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683&page=55
I would be super super appreciative :fingers-crossed:
Many thanks.
For thanks in advance to Chainfire, I have just made a donation.....
.... now praying.... can't use my apps purchased on Google Play on this phone without the root.
http://download.chainfire.eu/564/CF-Root1/CF-Auto-Root-trltechn-trlteduoszc-smn9100.zip
thanks chainfire!
tried it on mine but it didn't work. had a flash write failure...
Maybe Locked Bootloader
First, big thanks to Chainfire for the super fast action!!
But yeah, I've got the same issue. The recovery.img was from sammobile for n9100, so I don't think that is the problem.
I am suspecting it is a locked bootloader. Unfortunately I'm not at the moment able to detect this as while adb is working fine, fastboot is not recognizing the device. If anyone else knows how to easily check if the bootloader is locked (and has a good way to unlock without using fastboot), everything would be great.
Fastboot not supported for n9100
Ok tried fastboot on a different PC. Doesn't work for n9100 either. Can't detect devices in bootloader mode. Adb is ok. So likely not usb issue, must be simply not available on n9100 and from searching about seems Samsung likely doesn't support fastboot for many devices.
Troubleshooting
After further research, not too sure about the bootloader being the issue. Actually the SM-N9100 is not carrier branded or locked that I could tell. If the other models' roots work, then it makes no sense for this to be the issue here.
Chainfire, I see you posted that you may replace the ROOT you made for this model. If it helps in troubleshooting, here is what happened.
1 - Downloaded the stock firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=36308
2 - Posted to you the recovery.img file from the ROM - not sure if that was the one you used. But after soft bricking my device by trying the root, I can confirm that I could reflash with the stock firmware and all went well.
3 - When trying the root, it starts no problem, but then there is a Write Fail error in Odin. If needed, I can repeat the process to provide all text and screenshots. There was no Red Android icon. The bootloader screen has some failure message and the Android icon remained green.
4 - Phone would not restart stating there was a firmware issue and that I should perform a recovery in Kies.
5 - I did not perform a recovery in Kies, but rather I reflashed (using Odin) the stock firmware. This worked ok.... but of course, I still have no root. Since the reflash worked, then I can only assume the recovery.img file is fine for my SM-N9100
I have used your Autoroot in the past for my Note 2 N7100 model, and it worked with absolutely no issue whatsoever. So I don't think the problem is that I am not following the Odin settings correctly or that I have some USB issue.
Thanks.
Further Details
I've added a screenshot of the Odin failure.
BTW, I noticed someone posted a rooting video in YouTube with this CF AutoRoot for N9100
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXpPSjlzrok
Funny the video stops right before the failure and you don't see the "PASS" result in Odin!
So I don't know if anyone has been successful with this root at all!
sm-n9100
Hi
I rooted my SAMSUNG GT-N9100 with Cf-Auto root via Odin everything was ok process was passed and phone took a restart i checked the apps there was superSU but when i opened it, it just waiting and happened nothing. I restart my phone in recovery mode to update gapps or other superSu upte it giving a write error. it was not rooted you can't do anything.
since you buy N9100, so i consider u can read a few chinese (if not u can use google translate to help u)
i've seen in chinese forums they can root N9100 without problems, so i give u a few links to help
here is the step by step for root :
http://www.muzisoft.com/root/80910.html
and
in here it said u need to flash cwm first..this is the link for recovery
http://www.muzisoft.com/recovery/80827.html
and then after that u need to put supersu.zip to ur sd card, so this is the link for the supersu.zip
http://www.muzisoft.com/softs/bixu/80821.html
hope this can help root ur device
or actually u can download root apps in chinese, there are a few root apps that u can use for root the phone
Looks like the 9100 just got the recent OTA yesterday.
I'm rooted so need the full Odin flashable ANK5 from sammobile:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/39658/N9100ZCU1ANK5_N9100CHC1ANK5_CHC.zip/
Sent from my SM-N9100
Keep getting status 3 errors with chinese CWM.
Does any one know how to get twrp installed on sm-n9100.
Root for Galaxy Note 4 Dual (Honk Kong model) N9100ZHU1BOC4 - lollipop 5.0.1

Cf auto root works for my N9100...
Just flash it via Odin
Or either flash cmw recovery and it will ask you upon first reboot is you want to install su.
Both work for me

Hi Aligu,
Thank you for your help :good: . Have you also tried to flash a custom ROM into your Dual sim N9100 ?
Does the root method for n9100 china version also works on hong Kong version without any problems.

How to sim unlock Galaxy Note 3 SCL22 Lollipop 5.0?

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SCL22 from au japan.
I have unlocked it before using service mode (*#0011#) when it was on Kitkat 4.4.2.
But after I updated it on Lollipop 5.0 I cannot unlock it using service mode because there is no menu anymore it is just end.
Is there any other code or way to access service mode.
Any other way to sim unlock my phone? THANKS!
Same problem here
Any solution pls

SCL22 on Lollipop
Same problem here, cant access the Service Menu and Can't use any sim in the Philippines.
Please somebody help us.
Probably found a solution in a Japanese forum. Though I haven't understand it fully (with google translate), but it can be something like this.
Do not upgrade the firmware from your phone (If you already did, then you can re-install it again with following procedure).
Instead download the official SCL22 Lollipop firmware from sammobile.com or somewhere else in your PC.
Extract the firmware and add "ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk" in /system/app/ directory. Probably we need to google a bit on how to rebuild a firmware. A starting point can be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138885
Then install the firmware using Odin.
After installation, follow the unlock instruction for Kitkat 4.3, which I think you know already. They are also available in the Japanese forum too.
http://www.neko.ne.jp/~freewing/android/au_scl22_galaxy_note3_sim_unlock/
Note: The ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk download link is given in the Japanese forum. Or I think it can be extracted from the Kitkat 4.3 firmware files too. Once I followed this post (http://allthec.blogspot.com/2014/11/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-note-3-scl22.html) to root my SCL22 Kitkat 4.4.2 which is specific to SCL22 only and very easy to follow, this should work for Lollipop 5.0 too, if you are interested to root your device. But rooting the device will not unlock the phone.
I haven't tried it in my phone yet. Can any of you try it and let us know how it goes. Hopefully it will work!
Awesome
Thanks tutul.net, I will try that out.
And the translation is terrible so I'll try with the little japanese I can read:
First Method:
 ・Using odin flash SCL22KDU2FNF7
 ・Unlock using the SCL22KDU2FNF7 method
 ・Dont upgrade past SCL22KDU2FNF7
Second Method:
・Using Odin only flash the SCL22KDU2FNF7 modem
・Extract the old version of the ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk and overwrite the new one (/system/app/ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk)
・Using the Service menu, *#0011#, unlock with the old method
Now that I actually wrote all that out, looks like you were spot on. Thanks again!
I have had a note.3 as a paper weight for about a year now, maybe your advice will finally let me use it.
Also it was kind of biatch to get that apk, so I reupped it somewhere else for convenience hope it helps someone: ServiceModeApp_RL.zip
I'm having trouble with this and it's getting me really frustrated... did you eventually get it to work?
can you just flash the modem? isn't the modem supposed to be .bin file?
if you were able to successfully rebuild the rom with the fix, it would help me greatly if you can upload it somewhere
any help is appreciated
Did anyone manage to do this?
Basically you need a Linux base PC to rebuild a tar.md5
