Dt2w - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

How to enable double tap to wake?

No Double tap to wake, but there is single tap to wake, kinda.
Go to Display > Navigation Bar > Enable "Unlock with home button" and while locked, press on Home button area to unlock

Also if you double tap the home button it will wake to Lock. Screen

Is there any custom kernel I can install to do so?
Or use kernel auditor to do so?

I'm really interested in DT2W, I know D2TW work on the home button but I would like to have in on the whole screen like my old OPO and Motorola have it...
No kernel mod support this ?

Here in this thread there's a couple apk's (NO ROOT) that will do what you asking
Double Tap To Wake Anywhere
For DT2W, you must enable the home button in your AOD settings. Another thing is that this disables the home button icon. It is a side effect of the tweak, so it's manually hidden entirely.

[ROOT]Wake ON/OFF screen without power Button

Wake ON /OFF
Without use of annoying power button
Easy and safe way..
As new devices come with the feature of double tap to wake and wake off device
But our xperia has not that awesome feature.. And we have to use the power button instead..
And for using that awesome feature we have to unlock bootloader and flash the kernel which supports that feature...
But now i m gonna tell you how you can use similar feature without unlocking bootloader and flashing kernel....
For this-
U can use an App Called Gravity screen
And set up according to ur own desires...

GMD GESTURE LINK-https://www.google.co.in/url?q=https://play.google.com/store/apps/details%3Fid%3Dcom.goodmooddroid.gesturecontroldemo%26hl%3Den&sa=U&ei=g7tvVdrzFNPk8AWes4CoDA&ved=0CA0QFjAB&usg=AFQjCNEZjOR8yof_a_PcANWjvoiT_xHQFQ
Settings in Gravity Screen =>
Turn On Any direction, Lying Face up,screen On by proximity, start at boot ONLY
Settings in GMD GESTURES =>
Define a new GESTURE for screen OFF according to ur need (my setting is swipe up in left upper corner to off....
DONE
Now use swipe on proximity sensor to wake up device... And
Swipe up in left upper corner to wake off...or whichever setting u set up...
Hope this helps....
Any idea of a tap2wake kernel for lollipop?? EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/orig-development/kernel-zombie-t3126417
To turn off screen I use Gravity Box on Xposed, works perfect.
Thanks... I didn't check the whole functions of gravity box yet...

double tap to lock screen

Hi guys
Can anyone please tell me if double tap is still available to enter sleep mode ?
And if yes, how to set it up of course.
I found how to setup "wake up" but not the opposite.
I used it on my "old" Z5C and loved it...
Thanks.
Tap and hold on your home screen, go to settings and there you find it.
Only double tap to wake for x family as pressing the power button will unlock it with the fingerprint sensor.
Dunno why they remove the double tap to sleep
Maybe because of zoom function whith triple tap ?

Double tap to wake up device?

Is there any kernel or ROM or ant tweak that will enable this feature on Galaxy S8+?
double tapping the home button in AOD will turn on your device.
Valid point.

Double tap action on HOME button = lag?

Anyone has programmed a "Double tap action" on the HOME button ?
Don't you notice some "lag" when touching only one time the HOME button?
I know it has to wait to seek if a second tap is coming but I think it waits too much time!
Disabling "Double tap action" on the HOME button makes HOME button very fast as expected!
I also facing this issue
Yeah, I noticed this issue, too.
I've disabled the double tap action because of that.
we decide didn't use it until this issue has been solved
It's because of the method double tap works. Everytime you press the home button, phone is waiting on second response. This same thing has happened on cyanogemod/lineage for as long as I can remember across all my devices...

I'm willing to bet it was there lol.
Can't do the test ... sold it
3t user here..
I can confirm exact the same behaviour if you set an action for double tap....home button is not so responsive on single tap .
That delay has to be there, it's by design.
If you assign a double tap action to any button, after the first tap, there's a delay that results from the system waiting for the second tap, if this second tap is recognized, it performs the assigned action, if not, it performs the regular single tap action.
It there wasn't that delay in there, every single double tap action would be immediately preceded by the single tap action, which would be very very much annoying.
For example, home button - single tap is return to home. If we assigned a double tap to, let's say, turn on the flashlight, without the delay, the process would go like this:
- You're inside an app and want to turn on the flashlight,
- Double tap the home button
- Because there's no delay, you would immediately be taken to the home screen (single tap action) and only then the flashlight would turn on (double tap action).
That's NOT how it should behave at all.
So, in conclusion, you either have to live with a short delay when assigning double tap actions to buttons or disable the double tap action and have no delay.
Note: this delay is present not only for double tap actions on the HOME button but also for the RECENTS and BACK button.
Note 2: this delay is present in EVERY single ROM that has this ability to assign double tap actions to physical buttons (not just OOS).
Personally, I just turn off the double tap action and use longpress instead, there's no delay that way.
Double Tap Options all off!
Case closed.
But but why there is no delay when you press the multitasking button? . That has also a default double tap for quick switch (alt tab) to previous app!
.. but as soon as you customize the double tap of this button you get a delay!
It must have something to do with the finger print scanner function on the home button too.
But the delay is present on all 3 capacitive buttons if you put a custom double tap action.. so i don't think it has anything to do with fingerprint sensor, more of a deliberately action of an increased timeout.
Well.. hope they will decrease the timeout or at least make it customizable
Do you notice it on the back button? I tested and it seems no different.
Yes i notice it on back button too. Just retested.
No double tap - instant. Custum double tap - delay
Yup! I also confirm know.
I was using double tap on home / back to turn off the screen.
Just changed to long press.
No lag now and same objective done!
isnt there a prob setting or so to adjust the delay ?

Soft Lock Option (without using power button)

Is there a native way to lock the phone using a double tap, widget, etc? Just looking for anything OTHER THAN a physical button to save wear and tear on the button. I prefer a soft button / widget, but if something is built-in, I could get used to it without having to add-on software.

Negative. No tap wake and no app. Said they were thinking about adding tap maybe in a future update
You can double home button or status bar to lock with Lineage. This function is configurable in settings, no need extra app.
If you choose to install Xposed, GravityBox has the option to dbl-tap status bar for.sleep
I use Screen Off and Lock from the playstore. If using the stock launcher, click on the icon to turn off/lock. If using Nova Launcher, set up the double tap to run the Screen off and lock program (in the Gestures & inputs). Been using it for years with no problems.
