Redmi 2 Prime "no network" after update to 8.5.1.0 - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

Greetings to all.
I have a Redmi 2 Prime, I'm in Spain and I'm using Vodafone 4G network. Everything was working fine, but I couldn't use the Netflix app, so I had to update.
I used the Updater (that's the OTA update I think). It didn't install, so I downloaded the "fastboot" rom and installed it. After the install, the phone booted and it asked me for the PIN of the SIM card, then the configuration process started as if it was new (I chose clean install). The problem is that it doesn't connect to the Vodafone network.
I read similar problems in the past, so I though that going back to an older ROM will solve the problem, even if I couldn't use the Netflix app. So, I installed an old ROM V7.5.2.0.LHJMIDE. No luck neither.
Can you tell me how to solve this issue? What ROM should I install, even if it's and old one?
Thanks in advance.

Exact model is: 2014813 TD-LTE
I've been trying for days now. I've got it running again but on an english ROM and my wife can't understand english. I can't find a Global ROM to install from fastboot, since OTA ROMs won't install. Need spanish language.
I had to change the modem file on the fastboot image. What a joke this Xiaomi updates...

Yes, that device is china model. You cant install rom global version. Try flash 8.5.1.0 china rom.

Thanks for the comment.
Why would I install a chinese ROM if I won't understand anything?
I already solved the problem downloading a ROM from the Xiaomi.eu site and changing the modem file.
Such a crappy way to update a phone. 2 days (+10 hours) investigating and working on the phone to update it.

suggestion:
1)Backup all partitions via TWRP, in case anything goes wrong.
2)Go to page http://en.miui.com/a-234.html , download "☆ Redmi 2 Prime Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download"
3)Go to page http://en.miui.com/download-261.html#441 , download full rom (stable rom, Redmi 2 Prime Global)
4)Go to page http://en.miui.com/download-261.html#442 , download full rom (stable rom, Redmi 2 Prime China)
5)"Extract files..." via 7zip the file downloaded in step 2. You'll get a folder named "wt88047_pro_global_images_V8.1.3.0.LHJMIDI_20161230.0000.00_5.1_global_23ac47dab8". Shorten the folder name. Inside the folder is another file "wt88047_pro_global_images_V8.1.3.0.LHJMIDI_20161230.0000.00_5.1_global_23ac47dab8.tar". "Extract files..." via 7zip this file. Shorten the folder name. Inside the folder is another folder named "wt88047_pro_global_images_V8.1.3.0.LHJMIDI_20161230.0000.00_5.1_global". Shorten the folder name. Inside this folder is your workplace. Copy your adb and fastboot files and folders here.
6). Copy the file downloaded in step 3 ("miui_HM2XWCProGlobal_V8.5.1.0.LHJMIED_447abeac98_5.1.zip") to your phone's external memory.
7) Extract the file downloaded in step 4 and go inside the folder named "firmware-update". Copy the file named "NON-HLOS.bin" into your workplace(remember?step5).
8)Get ready for the flashing job. Charge you battery. Ensure you have backed up all personal files from your internal storage. Ensure you have your apps data like Whatsapp media backed up. Take a cloud backup. Now get into your workplace, Shift+right-click and select "open command window here". Connect your phone in fastboot mode to the PC. type "flash_all"(without quotes) in the command prompt and press Enter. Let the job proceed. Lastly your phone will reboot. It'll take some time until setup screen is shown. Don't bother. Just skip all details and go to home screen. Go to updater and select updater package in your external memory(remember?step6). Your phone will go into recovery mode to apply the update and it'll reboot. Again wait a few minutes for setup screen to appear. Don't proceed. Switch off.
7)Swith on into fastboot mode. Open command window inside your workplace. Ensure your phone is connected to your PC. Type "fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin" (without quotes). After the flashing has been done, type "fastboot reboot". That's it.
8) Any future updates as a zip file will replace the modem. You can only flash in fastboot mode (after replacing modem file). It is a difficult process to unpack a zip, change it and repack with proper signing and/or checksum so that the stock recovery accepts it.
9) I don't know whether other firmware files also need replacing, but I don't think so.

And FYI, Chinese ROMs also have English language, what they don't have is gapps, and opengapps cannot be installed.

[GUIDE] How to root SmartQ ZWatch

You can easily root the SmartQ Z1 (W1) ZWatch by modifying the firmware and updating it to the watch. I don't know of any rooting tool (like framaroot) that does the job on the watch without flashing the firmware.
[CREDIT TO GEEK78]
(1) READ the [HOW TO] in this thread by geek78 who first made a root firmware.
Download his rooted firmware HERE
Extract it with WinZip or similar zip utility - you should see files and folders which include "system"
Go to "system" -> "app". Copy "superuser.apk" to somewhere else in your computer (and remember where it is)
Go to "system" -> "xbin". Copy "su" to somewhere else in your computer (and remember where it is)
==========================================
(2) Go to Smartdevice website and download the latest firmware - HERE
Extract it with WinZip or similar zip utility - you should see the same files and folders of (1)
Copy "superuser.apk" and paste it into the "system/app" folder of this unzipped new firmware
Copy "su" and paste it into the "system/xbin" folder of this unzipped new firmware, replacing the original "su" file
[OPTIONAL]
(a) If you want to remove any apps in the original firmware, you can rename them from "xxx.apk" to "xxx.apk.bak" (eg. I don't use Weather sync app (IndroidWeather.apk), Sleep app (SleepAnalysis.apk) and Health app (SmartQWatchHeath.apk)), before the following step
(b) You can also add your own apps into the system/app folder, so that you don't need to install them after updating to the new firmware
==========================================
(3) Open WinZip or similar zip utility and navigate to the folder that contains the unzipped firmware files and folders. Highlight all the files and folders ("META-INF", "system", "boot.img", "mbr-xboot.bin", "recovery.img"), and use your zip utility to compress them back into a ZIP file called "update.zip"
==========================================
(4) BEFORE FLASHING THIS MODIFIED FIRMWARE, you must follow geek78's steps:
[HOW-TO]
1-Flash the watch with the restore tool from https://hotfile.com/dl/255788947/abfedd9/z1_restore_tool.zip.html (yes, i know, it will format the watch and you will loose everything... but it is needed)
2-Copy the rooted firmware called "update.zip" to the root of the /Sdcard of your watch
3-Start the flash from the watch
4-After the boot you can delete the 2 chinese apps with App Uninstaller

help with restore tool
Hello I have been searching through the forums and got a little help but need more. I am having problems rooting my watch. I dl'd the restore tool, problem is one of the restore tools instructions was to install the driver in a custom path but my comp keeps auto dling the driver and I cant choose the path to install. I run the restore tool and try to boot into restore mode so the tool will recognize it but it wont do anything. What am I doing wrong and do you guys have any solutions for the install path and getting into restore so I can use the tool? Thanks in advance for your time.

Try finding the watch in Device Manager and updating the driver manually. The driver is in this folder on Win7 x64: C:\Program Files (x86)\Smartdevices\Z1 Burn Tool\driver\x64

Thanks for your help I tried that and it didn't work sadly. I will just have to try another comp. I have tried going to restore mode with the watch off and with it on .Do you happen to know if i did a factory restore from the watch and then used the rooted 2.2 rom from geek78 if that would work or do i absolutely have to use the restore tool to wipe first?

Yes according to geek78, you must use the restore tool everytime you are installing a customized firmware. I guess the reason is that the restore tool wipes everything on the watch, allowing a clean new install.
I had no problem with installing the restore tool. When I uninstall and reinstall the tool, it remembers where the driver was, therefore I could not reproduce your problem. The best way is to try to install it on another computer eg. XP or Win7 32 bit (I heard that the 64 bit gives most problem with drivers).
If this fails, you can try (I have not tested and won't test because it is a hassle to reinstall all the apps!) to wipe the watch in recovery mode (which is really a modified CWM):
(1) You have to trick the watch to reboot into recovery first -
Find ANY file and make a zip from it called "update.zip"
You should test and see if this method works first, therefore download an official firmware from HERE - rename this file "update1.zip" (or anything other that "update.zip").
Connect your watch to your PC and transfer both files to the root of the watch.
On your watch: "About" -> "Firmware upgrade". Upgrade will fail and the watch will reboot in recovery mode.
(2) If you are familiar with CWM, you should know how to wipe user data, cache, dalvik and system. If not:
Use lower button to navigate (you can only go down, but it will circle back to the top) and upper button to execute.
Go to each of these and follow instruction to execute (choose "++++++++++ Go Back ++++++++++" to previous menu for the next item)
"Wipe data/factory reset"
"Wipe cache partition"
"Advanced" -> "Wipe dalvik cache"
"Mounts and storage" -> "format /system"
Then go back to main menu and choose "Apply update from nand" -> "choose zip from nand" -> choose "update1.zip" (or whatever name you gave to the firmware)
OPTION: you can wipe cache and dalvik again after installation (recommended by many modders)
"Reboot system now"
If update of the original firmware is successful, this means you passed the test. Now you can repeat the process using the rooted and modified firmware as "update1.zip".
THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THIS METHOD WILL WORK, but I think it should.
Got it
Ok i finally got it. The 32 bit was the key. Thanks so much for the help. Loving it, gonna root 2.3 and install.
Recovery mode tested and working :good:

The restore tool has issues with most 64bit machines. If you don't have one, you're best bet is to find a friend or family member that has a running XP system. OR, do you know how to create a dual boot on a pc?

Download Maja's DJDroid 6.0 rom (v3.5) , its rooted already
Bad links
Can somebody post those Superuser.apk and su binaries? The download link to geek's rom is bogus and is forcing me to download a bunch of junk.
I have the latest Kitkat firmware (3.7) and stock ROM already has su binary thru adb. My question is can I replace those files thru adb without packaging a zip?
Thanks,
Hi!
Does anyone know how to add the remote camera function in 3.7 ROM? The latest ROM that had it appears to be 3.1. I could not find it as an APK, so I think it is somehow else embedded in the ROM.

NTCODE Error Solution

1. Go to secret menu of your phone (*#546368#*850#)
2. Tap SVC menu, then Version Info.
3. In Version info find NT Code.
4. Change wbatever code you have there to "1","FFF,FFF,FFFFFFFF,FFFFFFFF,11" - that is open europe.
After pasting the above code, the NT Code should display something like code write done, or similar, instead of your old NT Code.
This info is from MrBeem, he sent to me. I have this error but it did not work for me, i get Write Error maybe because i I dont have root. If you are rooted can work for you.
I get write error too. I think you have to have root to make this work.
Talking of which, has anyone got root on 7.0 yet?

From Mrbeem:
Hello. Got an update on the version error you have/had.
1. yes, you do have to be rooted, to get root u must het twrp-3.2.0-1-beta1-H850.img and SuperSu2.78 SR4. You flash twrp via minimal adb and fastboot, instructions on XDA forum, after flash, pull battery out, back in and you MUST get to recovery by Vol Down+POWER combination and you only get 1 try. If you don't manage to get to recovery and your system starts booting, you must flash twrp all over again. Once in TWRP, press skip if it prompts for password, enable read/write by swiping right, and install SuperSu zip file you have to have on your external sd card. With all that done, reboot and voila, you're rooted.
2. After boot, go to hidden menu, to ntcode. In the ntcode put "1","FFF,FFF,FFFFFFFF,FFFFFFFF,FF" notice, last 2 are FF, not 11. you should get NTCODE WRITE OK
3. with root acces granted go to cust folder and enable R/W option. I recommend using root explorer 4.0.4
4. Check subfolder list in cust folder. You will have folders like VDF_OP, EUR_OP or something like that. Pick any and memorize its name. this will become your soft ver. after you finish.
5. Find file named cust_path_mapping.cfg and open it with TEXT EDITOR!
6. at the end of the document, add a following line: FFFFFF,FF=/cust/name of subfolder in cust folder you memorized in step 4
7. save file, close it and reopen to check if your added line sticks. if it doesn't you haven't pressed "mount R/W" button in root explorer. Press "mount R/W" and repeat steps 5 to 7 .
8. Reboot, and now you should get your system branded (if you chose a specific carrier subfolder in /cust) or no brand and no version error (if you chose open europe in /cust).

You can flash your countries Rom, not EU
I've installed TWRP ans SuperSU as shown above, but I still get Write Error.
Looking in the SuperSU app, it says under "Install SuperSU into /system" - "Not (currently) available in system-less mode".
How can I fix the SuperSU issue, as I'm guessing that's why I haven't got write access to the NTT code?
Hi. What exactly do you get in your ntcode error? Mine was FFFFFF,FF is not a proper code or something like that. Now, if your error is something else but not '0', you can just do the following:
1. Memorize or write down your error code ( in my case it was FFFFFF,FF)
2. go to /cust folder, mount it as R/W
3. Check what carrier subfolders folders you have in your cust solder (i had OPEN_EU, P4P_PL and a couple more)
4. Open file cust_path_mapping.cfg with TEXT EDITOR
5. Change the number/letter string before = of your desired carrier in the above mentioned cfg file to whatever it says in your ntcode error (my error message said FFFFFF,FF, i wanted the P4P_PL to be my carrier so i changed 26006,06=/cust/P4P_PL to FFFFFF,FF=/cust/P4P_PL).
6. Save changes, close, reopen the cfg file to check if your changes stick (if not, make sure you've enabled the R/W option in your cust folder).
7. Reboot
This should fix your problem. I tried this on 5 different devices and always worked.

I have my phone unlock code so if I unlock the bootloader will that allow me to enter a new NT code in the SVC menu to stop the customer error message without me having to root the phone and edit the root CUST folder? Thanks in anticipation.

Just wondered if you got any further with this? Oreo is now released for VM branded G5, but I'm wanting to use my VM branded phone on Three with WiFi calling. I was thinking about changing 1 of the 3 NT Codes (30,33,38) to 20 for Three but not sure if that's the best path forwards.

This is a solution that worked for me, on a Wind branded phone with an OPEN_EU rom (root required):
go to /cust/ folder and edit cust_path_mapping.cfg, adding a new line with the code you see in the NTCODE error (22288,FF in my case), pointing it to the OPEN_COM folder:
22288,FF=/cust/OPEN_COM
Then do the same with open_path_mapping.cfg, but here you should put OPEN_EU instead of OPEN_COM:
22288,FF=OPEN_EU
Then, after saving both files, reboot the phone, and the NTCODE error will be gone.

Any way to unlock the 5GHz WiFi band for US-version?

So the US-version of the Mediapad M3 does not support 5GHz Wifi as stated by Huawei and from my personal experience. Per Huawei's website:
Wi-Fi: IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac at 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz (Products delivered to markets that impose FCC certification requirements do not support 802.11 a/ac at 5 GHz Wi-Fi)
I can't help but think that the hardware is there as I have never heard of a mobile WiFi chip that ONLY supports 802.11 ac at 2.4 GHz. Therefore, is or will there be any way to unlock the 5 GHz band of the WiFi chip assuming the hardware is there?
Well, if you have unlocked bootloader, you may try the following:
1) Get root access.
2) Open /system/build.prop and find ro.config.hw_is_hide_wifi_5g=true and change it to "false". Or to true if it's false.
3) If that doesn't work (cause I really don't know what this option stands for), see below.
4) Go into /cust folder and tell us what's in there. Maybe, there's something like "hw" folder with "eu" folder inside.
5) If there is, edit /data/custom.bin and put "hw/eu" there (without quotemarks), and see, if something has changed.
If you don't have "hw/eu" in /cust, you have two ways:
1) Ask me here to give you "hw/eu" folder, put it into /cust and do (3).
2) Find local.prop file (it's usually in "prop" folder, three folders down from /cust, but folders are those you have, not "hw/eu")
3) There you'll find ro.config.hw_opta and ro.config.hw_optb. Change them to 999 and 156 respectively.
If all that doesn't help, we'll need to find another ways.

C'mon, be the first one
Just another caution.
Please, do a backup first.
I had a factory reset after changing region in custom.bin. I don't know, what was the real cause, and now I don't do anything to my tablet, cause everything it setup and works fine.
You, probably, can avoid it in two cases:
1) Your original recovery was replaced by TWRP
2) You don't change the actual region, changing only the content of your region's folder.

Changing ro.config.hw_is_hide_wifi_5g=true to "false" didn't do anything for me.
/cust folder contains /hw (subfolders /default, /normal, /oversea, and /usa), /lost+found, /preinstalled, and /special_cust. I haven't messed with any of them.
didn't work.
After unlocking the bootloader and getting root access I did the following:
1. Changed /system/build.prop: ro.config.hw_is_hide_wifi_5g=true to "false".
restarted the tablet but it did nothing
2. went to /cust. it contains the following folders: /hw (subfolders /default, /normal, /oversea, and /usa), /lost+found, /preinstalled, and /special_cust (just like for @neo_1221)
edited local.prop under /Cust/hw/usa/prop/ to ro.config.hw_opta=999 (was 567) and ro.config.hw_optb=156 (was 840).
restarted the tablet but it did nothing
What else can be done?

You may try to flash Chinese firmware. It's Something like BTV-W09C233B0xx or BTV-DL09C233B0xx
I don't have any other ideas, really. If even this doesn't help, then 5GHz is locked by OEMInfo or disabled in hardware.
Firmware can be found with this tool
Am confused by this thread. Are you saying you can only connect to 2.4 networks and cannot see 5ghz networks at all?? That normal only happens when a tablet physically does have a 5ghz radio.
The U.S version of the tablet does not support 5Ghz wi-fi.
We are assuming that there is only one variant of the tablet sold world wide (two actually LTE+wifi and wifi only),
and in order to comply with FCC requirements the 5Ghz wi-fi band was disabled by software and not hardware.
If that is the case than the band can be enabled back by flashing different non-U.S rom.
hopefully
It is WORKING!
I downloaded the latest Chinese version using the tool @Slavon-93 linked, version BTV-W09C233B022 from December 16 2016. I flashed it and after restarting the tablet, I have a Chinese version tablet, with 5Ghz band wi-fi working.
I lost custom recovery and root and may reflash them later.
I got some apps back that I previously removed, but happily all my other apps were still installed and configured.
Thanks @Slavon-93
p.s. I re-flashed TWRP and SU and now have custom recovery and root back

Can you select english as the language?
Yes you can, and since English was my selected language before I flashed the Chinese ROM it stayed as the selected language, so I never got a Chinese welcome screen and had to find out how to change it to English.
So this is a solution to get the "5Ghz band" working on a US WiFi only?
Those, who have a US tablet, could you please upload your entire /cust folder somewhere? If Chinese firmware is a solution, maybe there is something in /cust, that blocks 5GHz wifi? I wanna compare it to Chinese and Russian versions and maybe find something interesting.
@E.Vogel forgive me for being new to Huawei way of doing things. You said you flashed the Chinese ROM. Flashing makes me think of my Nexus 7 where I actually flashed the *.IMG files.
I downloaded the file you mentioned and I have update.app after extraction. I recall reading somewhere about creating a folder and transferring said file to device and restarting it. I'm curious if this is the route you took? I personally prefer fastboot flash but will have to do with what works. Thank you.

Forgive me for not being @E.Vogel, but let me explain. Huawei devices are not usual in terms of partition structure. For example, they have 2 recoveries, designed for different things. For a Nexus owner their update structure is also strange. Once upon a time, you could create a "dload" folder in /sdcard or in external SD, choose local update in update utility on your device, select update.app or update.zip, reboot and watch the device updating. Now we don't have an option to choose a local update, so the quickest way to install FULL OTA is from TWRP. You just need to put update.zip (~1.8 Gb) somewhere in /sdcard or other place, reboot into TWRP, press the Install button and select this file. TWRP installs it and you get your Chinese firmware. I recommend to make a backup first, in case something goes wrong. After installing FULL OTA you still get your apps and settings in place, but after a factory reset, you will lose Google Play and other a Google apps, and will have to manually install them from HiApp. Also, you will have to reinstall TWRP, root, xposed and other things you probably have flashed before.
I appreciate the reply all the same @Slavon-93. So creating the dload folder and dropping update.app in it no longer works?
I've not modified anything on my device other than fixing DPI so apps are in tablet mode.
Any idea what each recovery does since it has two of them?
I like to know there's a way out of a screwup if it happens. Nexus 7 was simple to fix.
Thank you.

Huawei devices have two recovery partitions: recovery and recovery2.
Recovery has generally all the same features a typical Nexus recovery has, except it doesn't have an option to apply update.zip and has a touch interface unlike the Nexus recovery.
Recovery2, called eRecovery, also has a touch interface and is designed to make a totally screwed up device great work again. It has a button to download full firmware and install it but on my device it said "No firmware found" after connecting to Huawei servers. People in Russian forum say it works only if you're in China and have a Chinese device. Anyway, if eRecovery does nothing, I considered it totally useless and replaced with TWRP: fastboot flash recovery2 twrp.img
Generally Huawei devices can be restored the same way a Nexus device can. TWRP and fastboot work the same. Personally I prefer to make a total backup of all partitions in device with "dd". I think it will give me more flexibility in restoring if something goes completely wrong. On DL09 model, only modem partitions are the problem. You can find fastboot versions of Chinese ROMS easily, but after installing them, I've lost everything related to phone functions. The only way to fix it was installing Full Chinese firmware in form of update.zip with TWRP.
And about dload folder. I have no idea how it works. I am also a former owner of Nexus 7 and the logic of Huawei is new to me, so I don't know some nuances. On earlier devices there was another option to update: you put update.app to dload folder, dial *#*#2846579#*#*, select Software upgrade -> SDCard Upgrade, the device reboots and installs the update. Again, on my device this trick didn't work and update installation stopped at 5%, saying it's incompatible with my device.
@jmjm003, I also come from a nexus 7 and Huawei devices are different.
First of all there is no formal web site with all factory images and/or OTA to download, I had to use a tool an XDA user developed to find the factory image I needed.
The second change is that the factory image (file update.zip) does not contain *.img files inside like in Google images and contains "update.app" 1.8GB file and some other small files.
To flash the ROM I tried to use ADB sideload but got an error message about the file being unreadable, so I copied the file to the tablet and flashed it using TWRP install function like any other zip file.
@Slavon-93, my /cust/hw folder changed from before and now contains only two sub-folders "cn" and "default"
I uploaded the entire /cust folder to Google drive, use this link to download it.

Thank you but I know what's inside Chinese /cust folder as I am using Chinese firmware myself. I am interested in untouched /cust of US version of tablet because I think there can be some option in local.prop or somewhere else, that blocks 5GHz Wi-Fi. I can try to look for it by comparing Russian, Chinese and US cust folders.

Huawei Nova Youth Problems

Hi Guys,
a german Forum advised me to ask here because, here are the experts. So sorry for my Basic englisch, but have a big problem.
My problem:
I got a Huawei Nova Youth as a gift. This is explicitly offered in the Chinese market. After some fumbling I have been able to change the language to German. However, the keyboard still partially takes false inputs. In addition, the Play and App store does not work. Of course, many other apps will be blocked, not to mention the Bloodware.
It is the model WAS-AL00. I now know that it is sold here as P10 lite. I did not find out how to install a European OS or a custom OS (Lineage). The support say only blah blah does not work, blah blah license problems ... Can someone please give useful information about my problem?
If more information is needed, I'll give it to you. I have always been Windows Phone users so far. So please apologizes if I do not understand all Android technical Terms.
thx

I tryed to do this.
I entered the developer steeings. 2 points are not present oem unlock and root access are both not seen. I tryed to install app store for twrp but it is blocked. If I try to enter the fastboot option with restart from smartphone, it is blocked. So I think the main problem is to get twrp to load new image. I tryed to install the with apk file directly and via huawei store. Both was not possible. Any Idea? Backup is not necessary. I never worked with the smartphone.
Update:
It was possible to download me.twrp.twrpapp-26.apk and copy on phone. Now he ask for device. Is the P9 plus the best choise?
ok you need first unlock bootloader:
register here with your phone(faster with it) or with email: https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/detail
then:
1º Download serviceRom(b182 or b183) on your pc and extract it, Same thing for oeminfo c432(ds or ss) and twrp.
2º Once you get unlock code open cmd(type cd c: /users/yourname/adb(more or less)), type fastboot oem unlock code , press on the screen and reboot wait to finish.
3º Move twrp image(extract) to c:/adb, type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, type fastboot reboot and press vol+ till erecovery screen, poweroff and unplug then vol+ and power button(briefly stop pressing power button)
4º insert your sdcard on laptop and create dload folder in it, then copy update.app and folders from dload folder of downloaded service rom.
5º in twrp press backup button select sdcard storage and backup only oeminfo(copy to safe place), with downloaded oeminfo copy and replace oeminfo then restore.
6ºpoweroff and unplug, then press vol+- and power button untill update starts, if all goes ok should reboot.
at first big thanks foliaje. I am very happy for your fast answers. I tryed today the unblock page from hauwei. There was foolowing Problem.
1. I registered an account via Smartphone. Most of informations was chinese.
2. Change lange was not possible - same in PC browser. Seems like fix Region.
3. delete account and create new on PC. Change language to german was possible.
4. Try to login to unblock Website was not possible - Change Password Shows failure Email or account not present ....
Is it necessary to great account on Smartphone with fixed Region again and use this account for unblock?
Further *adb devices* shows an ID and unautorised device. Is that right?

trying to bring my brothers A500 to life in 2019

Hey together,
I really hope someone out there is still using a A500 Tablet and may be able to help me fix a weird issue i encounter on every ROM i tried so far.
I installed the ROMs mentioned in this Thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/iconia-a500/general/2018-a500-upgrade-threaddownloads-to-t3832293
And all of them come with the Same Problem for me.
If i try to open the Google PlayStore or something else that wants me to login into a Google Account it just says: "There was a problem communicating with Google Servers" "Try again later"
anyone knows of this issue ? All the fixes several Google searches gave me did not help to fix that issue for me on any of the ROMs.
help would be highly appreciated
kind regards
Finn
Hi,
have you read the tips? It says:
"- Google play will not work right if you do not format your data partition to f2fs. (You can do this in recovery)"
Have you tried it?

First my thanks to the forum key members for providing answers to queries and to all the key contributors of SW/ROMS in this forum. I followed the procedures from this forum to Flash / upgrade my Acer Iconia A500 on 4.0.3 ICS that was sitting in a trunk for the last few years. Summary of steps I tried out.
STEP 1: Install the Acer device drivers listed in the links in this forum on your Laptop/Computer even if by default your Windows 10 OS (assuming you are on Win10 like me) is able to recognize the A500 connected to the USB port.
USB_Acer_1.00.0524_A30HA31HA32H_A.ZIP
STEP 2: ROOTING the Acer A500.
1. The tablet should be already upgraded to stock ICS for A50x (or stock ICS A10x/A510 for other tablets).
2. On a tablet: "Settings" -> "Applications" -> "Development" -> "USB debugging" switch ON. If you do not see this menu, then click 7 times of the Android Build No. listed under settings and come back to the menu above to enable USB Debugging.
3. Connect the tablet to the computer (Before connection it is recommended to update the driver for a tablet from here: A10x, A50x, A510).
4. Since most of the discussions regarding flashing A500 were from 2011, the earlier Gingerbreak method for rooting did not work.
I downloaded the following file from this forum to root my tablet.
ICS_rooting_A10x_A5xx.zip
5. Open the directory with the unpacked archive. Execute file: for windows - runit-win.bat; for Linux - runit-linux.sh.
The root is received!
Note: The McAfee Antivirus software started tagging a file 'mempodroid' within this ZIP file Tools folder as a virus or malicious file. This rooting method uses the 'mempodroid' exploit which is detected as a VIRUS by McAfee and Qurantined. So restore from Qurantine and check list of files are still present in the folder. If not verify 8+8 files in folders again.
As per inputs in this forum, I restored the files quarantined and then suppressed McAfee SW for the duration of my upgrade activities on my laptop and was able to successfully extract all the files in the ZIP file to a local folder on the laptop. This ZIP file has adb and fastboot - two key programs useful for rooting your A500 apart from SU or superuser base file used in step 2. The file to run is the BAT file runit-win.bat if you are on windows. At the end of this step your tablet should be rooted. You may check by installing the RootCheck app from Google Playstore.
Step1a: Install a File Manager app from the Google playstore. This will help you extract the CPU ID and convert it with the SBK tool to get the SBK number/string. important steps SBK tool was available in file - SBCalc_v1.1.ZIP available in this forum.
STEP 2b: SUPERUSER and SUPERSU installation
1. Install SuperUser.apk first.. (IMP - Its available in this forum. Its like a base version for superSU to install over. If you do not install SuperUser.apk, then each time you try installing SuperSU, you would get an error message about a SU file being incompatible.)
2. Then install an older version of SuperSU downloaded from the website - filename -> eu.chainfire.supersu_v2.65-265.ZIP . Newer versions will not work. U got to install an older version as new version seems to be a paid SW.
3. Next Open SuperSU app on your tablet and let it update itself a couple of times each time opening and closing the app after the upgrade.
4. Remove SuperUser.apk file as now its no longer needed.
5. Now that you have ROOT access and SuperUSer access
6. Install Titanium Backup. File name in this forum- update-recovery-TWRP-rev2.0-beta4.ZIP . This will help you to flash/upgrade ROM software on your tablet.
Twrp 2.8:

STEP 3: Install an Unlocked Bootloader i.e. unlocked bootloader Skrillax v9 - file name in this forum BabSector.rar or A500-Bootloader-Nvflash.ZIP
Once you have reached this step, you now have the basic tools needed for the final ROM upgrade of the tablet.
I did get error message after the reboots that happened after Unlocking the Bootloader. Someting about a LNX partition not being okay or some such msg. Each time I just WIPED the Cache and selected similar options to wipe System, Data, User, Dhelvic cache (spelling incorrect) etc. Since you have not installed the final OS or ROM for your tablet yet, no harm in deleting these partition data. Actually its recommended to wipe, format in f2f formats etc. all of which is possible using the TWRP Recovery software you installed in step 2. Choose Recovery menu option each time the tablet boots or gives errors.... using the volume rocket and power buttons. More info -> Go through this thread and install unlocked bootloader.

Flashing Bootloader Steps
-------------------------
1. generate your SBK from cpuid
2. put tab in APX by holding reset (small pinhole bottom right side)
and pushing power for 3-4 sec. - then release reset approx 1 sec. later
the screen should be blank and power button should be lit - plug in USB to PC.
2. Run A501 A.bat - when finished reboot tab to recovery (win 7 and under
right click on A501 A.bat and select Run as Administrator)
3. run Recovery(power and volume-) ->WIPE -> "Advanced wipe ->System (only)and swipe to wipe.
4. unplug USB and reboot tab to APX
5. plug in USB afer it is in APX mode -> Run A501 B.bat (win 7 and under
right click on A501 B.bat and select Run as Administrator)

Bootloader unlock files:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/o7m2ouwo6zuod4d/A500-Bootloader-Nvflash.zip/file
STEP 4. Downloaded file omni-4.4.4-20150210-a500-IconiaHD.ZIP as I was not sure version omni 5.1.1 was as stable as Omni4.4.4 reading all the threads in this forum.
First rename the downloaded OMNIROM file as update.zip .
OmniRom 4.4.4
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ghd72j3g618kk9g/OMNIROM-5.1.1-Tegraowners_ROM_v13t2.zip/file
File size: 244.66MB

STEP 5: Install another tool adb_fast.ZIP. This tool is also available in this forum.
Note:You need to copy the update.zip file to your computers folder where this tool adb_fast is installed. In mine it was C:\Program files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder. This adb_fast file creates an application shortcut on your computer desktop. Clicking on the short cut launches adb and fast boot programs I mentioned at the beginning.
STEP 6: Copy the file to the SD card (16GB) of your tablet.
Run the adb_fast tool from your desktop shortcut. This will open a Command Prompt type black screen window where you can enter the code as given below. Note you may need to see how your SD card is listed in a file manager in your computer
Code:
adb push update.zip /mnt/sdcard/update.zip --- NOTE: this creates mnt folder on internal storage and I had to then move the file using TWRP recovery tool installed in step 2, to the SD card.
adb push < ------- is the push command.
rom.zip < ------- is the name of the Rom zip file.
/sdcard < ------- is the location your pushing the Rom to.
E.) Reboot tablet with Power+Down Arrow i.e. This will start the Upgrade process for the tablet to OMNIROM 4.4.4
-- Power Button + UP VOLUME pressed... then release Power button after LED lights.
-- System will boot to commmand prompt
STEP 7: Install GAPPS using pico gapps short version and Wipe Data/Factory reset ----------------?>and wipe cache partition?
Reboot after 1st reboot
G.) https://opengapps.org/ to install a minimal version of Google Apps on the tablet.

Root tablet again and install SuperSU if you need it
other info.
You can use TWRP to flash the OmniROM on the tablet or you can use the following in worst case senario to do the same.
Code:
fastboot devices
fastboot flash update.zip -- check if syntax is ok from threads in this forum
fastboot reboot-bootloader
copied below from other threads ---->
I find that a large amount of complaints in developer threads are due to people not properly wiping before a flash.
Of course there is times when a 'dirty' flash is fine, but if you're ever not sure, wipe as cleanly as possible.
fastboot allows for about the cleanest of wipes by the way. And each partition can be done separately too.
Code:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase data
fastboot erase cache
can all be done individually, but to do these all in one command
Code:
fastboot erase system -w
If possible I recommend to do these steps before flashing a ROM, and now that you know you can do this all within fastboot mode i suggest to try it out, its quick and painless!
Don't forget to wipe your kernel too! (fastboot erase boot)
~Important~ If your device uses an emulated SD card (as in no removable micro SD but an SD partition on phone)
Then be careful wiping data/userdata as this will erase all contents of internal SD - you are forewarned!
ADB= Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
[TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot [2-9-18]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790&page=12
First a short explanation:
Fastboot, like ADB, is a tool to communicate from PC to Android phone. There are times when it is a must to use, and times when it is just helpful.
ADB is used within your recovery or within your OS, but when you are in bootloader mode and need to communicate with your phone then you need fastboot.
And you may ask why would i ever need this?
Well many reasons. Main one is knowledge, learning the ins and outs of fastboot, like learning ADB, can get you out of many jams.
And if you want to unlock your bootloader this is done through fastboot. Granted HTC's unlock is... well crap, but for a Nexus this is how its done.
One other reason I have to stress is learning for safety reasons, This is about the safest way possible to flash firmware to your phone (ie Radio, Hboot, Recovery)
Lastly you may want to know the limitations,
There are many of course, this isnt JTAG, it will not resurrect a hard brick, but it often save peoples phones from 'soft bricks' and lots of time when know how and when to use it.
Think of fastboot as the program that takes over when ADB cant be used, it works with firmware more than software.

Open yr file explorer, esfile explorer is a great one....navigate to:
/sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpuid - add a zero to the front!
To get CPUID get a Root browser of some sort and go to sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpu_id
convert my CPUID into SBK?

What Does Root Give Me?
1. Full control over your system
2. Ability to alter system files. You can replace many parts of the "Android Core" with this including:
o Themes
o Core apps (maps, calendar, clock etc)
o Recovery image
o Bootloader
o Toolbox (linux binary that lets you execute simple linux commands like "ls") can be replaced with Busybox (slightly better option)
o Boot images
o Add linux binaries
3. Run special apps that need more control over the system
o SuperUser (lets you approve or deny the use of root access to any program)
o Task Manager For Root (Lets you kill apps that you otherwise could not kill)
Tether apps (like the one found at [android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com])
4. Backup your system
o You can make a folder on your SDCARD and backup all of your .APK files to your SDCARD (helps if an author decides to "upgrade" you to a version that requires you to pay to use the version you just had)
5. Relocate your (browser/maps/market) cache to your /sdcard
6. Relocate your installed applications to your /sdcard
7. Reboot your phone from the terminal app easily (su <enter> reboot <enter>)
Turn the rotation lock off.

SUMMARY - Regardless of version, rooting is the same... next
** Unlock the bootloader.
** Fastboot flash a Custom Recovery (TWRP).
** Download to the Tablet, Chainfire's SuperSU root updater .zip
** Boot into the previously fastboot flashed Custom Recovery, and flash the SuperSU updater .zip.
** Reboot - you're rooted.

PS. I tried to maintain a log in Notepad during my upgrade. Unfortunately did not write detailed instructions and link to required files. Above is a summary of what worked for me.
Can not root

Hi sukasis, i was unable to root the tablet. I download all and run the runit.win.bat (trying normal, as admin, and open a cmd as admin and then navigate to the bat to execute).
- It say device connected
- Then push 7 files correctly
- Executing of the main script. (it freeze here a lot of time)
Then error: protocol fault (no status)
The file "su" isn't created
Not getting root!
I try in USB 3.0 and 2.0 same error.
I have windows 10.
I uncheck the Debugging mode and it's bring another error, so i believe the connection is good because in debug mode can push files.
I don't know whate else i can do.
