I have used many ROMs based on Lineage OS here.
Testing camera performance especially front camera for selfie.
MIUI camera delivers exceptionally amazing selfies.
I have tested Open Camera on MIUI and the selfie quality went bad, selfies became dull as same as they are in Lineage cameras.
This means the App is the key to better selfies.
If its possible to Port that app, Many users on internet willing to donate for the same.
Also this will improve overall device feel and experience on LineageOS.
If this thread becomes capable to attract at least one developer who shows interest in this we will be lucky.
Participate with your ideas and try to attract Developers here.If you are willing to Donate for this project kindly do mention.
I've seen this happen on every Xiaomi phone I've owned. On all of them there's a thread of people really wanting a port of the MIUI camera, but on none of them is it possible. The MIUI camera is part of the MIUI framework and won't work without it. So unless someone makes a Magisk module of the MIUI framework that plays nicely with AOSP and ports the camera it won't be possible

I just found this MIUI5 port that works on Marshmallow (I don't know if works in Nougat): (Sharing)(APP) MIUICamera App
Maybe this could help to find a way to port the newer versions.

Not useful, people who used it are saying it's working as a normal camera app only.
And I tried, not working in my phone.

I think that is just the app, it doesn't include the low level firmware optimisations. It doesn't work on the MI5,and it's based on MIUI5 which is 4years old. The fact that we haven't made progress post that is testiment to how difficult it is to port the camera firmware. Atm the only solution is dual bootiing, and using a MIUI based ROM if you go out to take pictures (like on a holiday). It's ****ty, but it's what we're stuck with. Google Camera works OK on Lineage for quick snaps anyway.
Wait for next update of the snap camera. I am sure it will rock
I have realized that MIUI has really developed its camera app over the time, even if some other camera app are launched. They will not catchup with this app. Hence if we have a scope to use this existing piece of work we must port it rather than focusing on other means.
I just hope some developer has seen this thread and considering to take on this project.

guys I have talked to developers, they are saying that it's not possible to port this camera.
And if it was possible, someone in XDA community would have already ported it like these is Google camera.
So if you want great photos, be on MIUI.
Guys, Sad news is Developers have denied to make any such port.
They say MIUI camera has something to do with Miui framework also this camera is Closed Source.
Sadly in summary If you want to use your phone for camera stay on MIUI only.
Use raw shooting for max quality for both AOSP and MIUI. As it pulls raw data without any touch you can get superrior quality compared to MIUI camera app.

How to shoot that perfect quality RAW ?
Now I'm on LOS 14.1 + DragonXia Kernel and when I try RAW from Footej Camera Premium the quality is sh*t and the colors are really bad
It was the same with EU rom

I was just installing lineageos to have Aosp rom...but reading this I will not try it anymore on my Mi5 128 GB
Im using jdc 7.1.2 with snapdragon camera and google camera( google camera crash on slowmotion) and both work fine.

Check the details over here on Reddit... the results are insane. Basically a guy made the Camera NX app on Chromloop think his phone (Moto Z) was a Nexus 6P, and it enabled HDR+ in the app. The results (Google photos album) are INSANELY better than the stock camera app.

If you use BSG build, you will understand what I mean when you selected Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL model from the B-S-G settings. Could anyone enlighten me with this situation? I find it so weird that the front camera can do HDR+, but the back camera is left behind.
Can anybody contact B-S-G to help us have, at least, decent camera experience on AOSP? His build are the only one I see the potential to a working Gcam in Axon 7.

It's from the lack of Camera2 API. Though I don't know why the front camera works, i guess because camera2 isnt really needed for HDR front camera

The best course of action would be to make a bounty though.
So, its known Lenovo P2 (kuntao) has camera bug when using HAL3 mode with RAW capture, it look like pink lines instead of preview and captured pictures. I fixed this ****, now all HAL3 apps working fine. Google camera mods working including HDR+ mode.

choose one of the attachments depending on what rom you using. If you have treble enabled rom please use kuntao_fix_main_cam_v2_8.1treble.zip (149.0 KB) and if you using 7.1.2 based or 8.1 with no treble use kuntao_fix_main_cam_v2_7.1.zip (149.2 KB)
Install it using recovery and test camera apps. I have tested Google camera mod MGC_5.1.018.177624777-41364271.apk (BSG, 2018-07-12) from https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/ . It has working HDR+ mode when choosing Nexus 6P model.

And second small fix is for those who want to use front cam in Gcam. Set black level 16 for front camera, or you will get green/yellow tint.

@highwaystar_ru did all the hard work!
i was simply supporting him in trying to find possible proper alternative blobs and checking their content using hex values. while he spend days with IDA to make the original blobs work!
ne never gave up! the results speak for themselves!

When using treble and LOS 15.1 - will the mod survive system updates, being in the Vendor partition ?
on the latest beta. I noticed when it is to dark and you switch to front camera. it crashes the app. anyone know a possible fix for that? I remember reading something on a OnePlus subforum. but can't remember where.

I have tried front camera on almost all lighting conditions just to tried what's working and not. I haven't encounter any crash on low lighting (i have tried even in complete dark too) but i have face 1 crash using front camera in outdoor lighting. It just freeze for 1 second and then crash. I have changed some setting in the app.
Look at the hdr+ photo it's just not look like it's from our camera

I went back to MGC_5.1.018.177624777-41364271.apk which is rock stable. in the beta the front camera (selfie camera) was crashing too much in my tests. especially when switching cameras. it's probably an issue with the beta.
now if we had a fix for video camera support for 30fps and 60fps. that would be great. all recordings now are in 24fps. which are smooth and without micro stuttering. even on Open Camera. but Snap Camera (default LineageOS Camera) refuses to take a video recording without 30fps at least.

well in theory. yes. it should be able thanks to @highwaystar_ru
he added the profiles [email protected] 24 fps and [email protected] fps to the video profile to the back camera.
but the rom media profiles xml needs to be adjusted i think. for it to work with snap. for now snap and OpenCamera will record in [email protected] fps.
i haven't tested 4k yet.

To me, Bulkin043's version is the best. And yep, it can only shoot 30FPS at 4K.

For 4k video recording + 60 fps with GCAM you need to be on JoyUI 11.

Great gcam. 4k 60 fps working great. Even the slow motion works fine. But there are some bugs and problems.
No 1. Focus latency in video recording
2. Nightsight crashes(works with telephoto)
3. Front cam video recording does not work
4. Astrophotography fails with main sensor
These are the day to day using bugs.
