Custom rom discussion. - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Is anyone gonna start work on a custom rom? My laptop broke so I'm out of the picture for now lol.

I'd like to do one for the SD425 US variant, but without the sources from Moto, how difficult would it be?

@squid2 said he was going to work on LineageOS when he has time. We need the device trees straightened out. We need motorola msm8937 board trees. I don't believe they exist yet. I've been working on something. Be patient, it'll take a bit.

I am patient lol, just curious if anyone had anything brewing.

I've been doing all these roms for Moto E 2nd gen and some for Moto G falcon. https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=196244 As soon as something is compilable, I'll have at least one of them done for this thing.

I was working on lineage 14.1 but the couple builds I did bootlooped and I haven't had a chance to figure it out. I see @CodyF86 is doing a fine job working on lineage 15.0. I'm going to do the same with his trees and see if I can help with the progress. After running los 15.0 on my surnia, it's surprisingly stable for being so early in development. Hopefully it'll be as stable on the E4 also.

Well I'm always down to be a test mule if you need one, glad to hear the work is going decent.

Ok... glad it's back.
Audio lag bug is still there.
Doesn't seen to be as updated as gumy or crdroid, as the camera fcs if using one the latest custom kernels.

Thanks for this thread. At least people can now post their experiences with current nightlies.
Is there someone who follows in David's footsteps (regarding maintaining our device)?

Will we be getting the latest snapshot build or should I just go ahead and stick with Paranoid Android?
As usual, seemingly no M9 for falcon.

As i have seen in a review....data on second sim was claimed to be fixed on 2/08...whereas even in 3/8 nightly its the same....same subscription not active bug...any ideas???
M9 builds are still rolling out. I don't see any notes about falcon here: http://jenkins.cyanogenmod.org/view/All/builds
Hopefully, it's just haven't been built yet.

Its a bug in CM that started around the 20-07 builds, there have been various commits that have supposedly fixed the issue for some moto g's but not others. I'm gonna take a guess and say that slim rom is based (entirely or partly) on CM and because the audio issue still hasn't been fixed for CM it wont be fixed for other roms based of it, your best bet is to flash the AudioFixV3 which changes the audio blobs/files back to the last nightly (20-06 i believe) that didn't have the audio issues. Note that this file was meant for CM so i don't know how it will effect other roms.

Just be patient, guys, and keep fingers crossed: falcon build is queued as #78606, and the current one is #78517.
So hopefully tonight we'll see the result.

Thanks for this thread. This is exactly what I've been wondering too. I am on CM based RR ROM and even though the idea of using nougat is quite appealing I'm not sure how much it's worth the whole hassle, specially given I'm too used to RR's huge set of features.
I'll check back to see if someone's answered, and surely post back if I've struck luck with a custom nougat ROM, though I have a feeling it might take some time before a custom athene ROM such as CM or CM based rolls out, and prolly it's worth the wait if I don't have to go back to stock ROM for just a few odd extra features which have largely been ported through mods/apps and implemented in custom ROMs already.

Agreed.
It will take a while for people to start working on Nougat based ROMs. From what I understand, devs are still perfecting the CM bases MM ROMs, which requires a lot of time and effort.
I don't see any Nougat ROM anytime soon, at least not as a stable daily driver. I'm sure our devs are equally thrilled but let's wait it out a little!

There is CM14 on AFH And it's uploaded by @regalstreak ...!!
Don't know anything how it works or why he haven 't shared on XDA...
Edit: It Doesn't boot... Don't use...

Why don't the devs work on lineage Os together?

Just curious.. why is it that we're seeing rom after rom drop.. all based on lineage.. but lineage isn't official yet.
I understand all the hardware needs to work before it's official. So why not fix the base rom instead of just building everything we see?
Again.. I'm just curious. I used to build ROMs too and always liked to base stuff on fully functional code.

I have. I've also 'listened' in on the conversations in the chat rooms.
Most just want recognition for building their roms. Some will help occasionally but the primary focus is "thanks" and xda recognition NOT completing the base rom or getting things official. I completely understand why vache won't work on official since he doesn't have the device.. but there are many others that are more concerned about the things stated above.
I tried to word my initial question do I wasn't insulting the devs.. but.. after your statement I felt the need to clarify.

Yes. Instead of so many ROMs, we need stable ROM. Even one LOS should be good enough

Perry lineage os 15.1 test ROM available!!!

@Mactavish released his lineage os 15.1 test ROM.. I'm making this post to see if anyone had any success getting it to boot. Yesterday release got stuck on the black n/a boot screen. The release from today came closer to booting.. it spent the usual time on the n/a screen, then went to bootloader. I've tried everything except adb sideload. Did anyone get it to boot? I'm ready for Oreo..

I'd love to give it a go. Maybe it's a misprint, but it appears this ROM is for the XT1762, the dual sim, and I only have the XT1765 one ? I don't think it's compatible?

In part yes.. the download link says xt1762 which I think is the " wood" variant but the articles say it's a " Perry" port for metro that might have boot issues. I also noticed the file says Perry and it's in a "test" folder.. one link shows one rom, another link shows 2 roms.. the most recent is from today.. I'm going to try 2 more things which is the sideload option and flashing the kernel separately.. I suspect the kernel need more tweaking cause the second room posted today went further that the room posted yesterday.. a kernel built from source would do the trick or I could be wrong.. the fun part is finding out the hard way.. I'll report if my last 2 options work..

Nothing is "released" just yet. Those are just tests. You can read about it, and ask questions in the telegram group. None of the Oreo ROMs are going to boot until we get proper Oreo device trees. No progress on that. So don't hold your breath.

Dumb question here bat, but where do you get Oreo device trees from?
How come we can't port from one of MotoJunkie's E5Play's Oreo Stock Rom James? It's the same Chipset and Processor? And I ask this because there are so many guides on porting roms on XDA that say it can be done as long as the processors and manufacturers are alike. I'd love to give a hand at porting.

Squid2 is working on the trees. We won't need any ported ROMs. He's working on official lineage, treble support, even possible 64 bit ROMs. And with official lineage support we'll get pie.
