Samsung S8 Notification Bar Issue - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

My notification bar is always dropping down (sometimes intermittently) when I am using the Samsung S8 without me having to pull it down or receiving notifications. It is becoming quite annoying because every few seconds I have to drag it back up so that I am able to use the phone. Has someone else encountered the same issue?

Press on the little white dot far left, it makes it stay uo.

It kept the bar visible or let it slide down.

Go to setting, search for navigation bar. The top item says show and hide item. That toggles the dot on and off.

That dot from the far left it is for the navigation bar. I was referring to the notification bar, the one at the top of the screen. Also every now and then the apps edge blinks intermittently and it coincides with the notification bar drop.

Did you enable fingerprint gesture to pull down notification shade? Settings>advanced features and then see under "finger sensor gestures"

No, I didn't. The settings are the factory ones.

Are you using a screen protector?

Yes I do, but the issues started before adding the screen protector. I took it down and still it persists

The problem was solved. If you ask me what caused the issue I have no ideea. All I can do is describe the exact steps I took.
1. I took of the screen protector just in case it was causing the issue
2. I restored the phone to factory settings
3. After that I didn't install any apps and didn't intstall any backups, no passwords, no face recognition, no pin, I omited all of the steps.
It seemed to have worked flawlessly I have no idea why and what was actually casing the issue with the notification bar. One day has passed so far and no notification bar issue so far.
I hope it's gonna stay this way

Anyone else noticed that you can change screen brightness from the status bar?

If you start to slide the status bar down, and then slide your finger to the left or the right on the actual status bar, the screen brightness will adjust.
Sliding all the way to the right will give you brightest, and sliding all the way to the left will give you lowest setting for brightness, and there are some intermediate settings depending on how far to the left/right you go.
My i9000 does not have this feature.
Yes I have this and I use it often

This phone gets more awesome every day!
is it really the status bar or a swype on either direction at the top part of the screen
i remember something about controlling screen brightness by a diagonal swype from the top of the screen

I'm sure that your phone does have this feature, but you have to take the screen brightness out of automatic for it to work.
awesome....something new everyday!
you dont have to slide down, just swype across the notification bar, that is such a simple but cool feature
Lol im gonna start swiping everything on my screen next thing you know you swipe and a LED Flash shutter opens in the back

I'm surprised more people haven't noticed this feature, and Samsung has been so quiet about it.
It doesn't seem to work for me either. I've tried pulling the bar down just a little or all of the way.
You have to have it on manual brightness setting, and pull the status bar down just a few mm so that the grey part that would usually be the bottom edge of the status bar is fully exposed, but is right at the top of the screen, then swipe either left or right on the status bar.
I hope that makes sense

Notification Bar

Do any of the new ROM's have the Brightness adjustment when you slide on the Notification Bar? It was on Eclair.
Nevermind I found one.
They should all have this feature. Just make sure auto brightness is turned off.

Not to start up a 5 day old thread; but I'm running Quantum Rom v2.0.0 and the slider bar in the notification window isn't there. And; I have the auto brightness off.
In fact; I don't think I've ever had it on any of the roms I've had since we switched to 2.2.

Hold your thumb anywhere along the black status bar at the top to adjust your brightness. You need to have auto brightness turned off in order for it to work. It used to be that you could slide your finger along the status bar but it hasn't worked for me as of recent but long pressing it does. You don't need the entire notification screen pulled down, just have the status bar showing ie: If you have Launcher Pro hiding the status bar it will not work.
Got it!!
I thought it was going to be an actual slider like the Galaxy TAB has, but that is nice to have that hidden gem.
Thanks for the help!!
This is my most disliked "feature" on android. It is way to easy to inadvertently change the brightness when dragging the slider down. there should be a larger dead band around where your finger starts before the brightness change becomes active because most people do not swipe down perfectly straight every time. I have yet to make it a day without the thing changing brightness by mistake.
In fact as soon as we get the source, I'm going to compile a version with this "feature" removed...
Please remove,lol,thank you in advance

Thin green line above notification bar?

There's a small thin green line between the notification bar and where the screen ends. It starts at the top left corner, ends about an inch or so to the right. I'm sure it's not a hardware problem because the position of the green line depends on the orientation of the phone. What could be causing it? It doesn't show up in screenshots.
edit: there doesn't seem to be anything downloading either, so i don't think it's a progress bar. Tried rebooting.

Amazing. I am stupid. Yes, that was it, thank you.
For those curious/anyone who stumbles upon this thread in the future- I'm running X-Note, and you can get rid of the battery bar in the X-Note Control menu.

My screen have gone couple times full green, and one time s-view window was green. Just don't know what caused this.

[Q] Any way to move the notification panel to the bottom of screen(similar to IOS)

Is there any way show the notification panel by swiping from the bottom of the screen instead of the top(default)?
basically is there anything that will allow me to view the expanded notification panel without having to pull down from the status bar?
You haven't gotten any responses because it isn't possible. End of story. New to Android?

Nah but upgrading from a galaxy s4 that has been on 4.4 for 3 years(custom rom) With the new galaxy, its harder to reach the status bar when using one hand.
I agree with you with this one... The navigation bar is a bit of a pain to reach, Although pinning apps to edge bar seems to work OK for me.

then use the one hand operation to make it easier. that's what it is there for. tap the home button three times. that will make the screen smaller, and easy for one hand operation. if you don't have it setup, then go into settings, and advanced settings.
You should try the notification edge panel I bought it straight away then i realised I could of bought the edge notification panel from playstore with the reward app I had.
No way to move the notification pull down itself, but using Nova Launcher Prime (the pay version), you can set up a screen gesture to open the notification shade. You can assign to a downward swipe (starting anywhere on the screen), or a double tap, or other options. Unfortunately, I think this only works from the home page, not from within another app.

Yup. best answer!
I've been using this for years. Still not the same as having a smaller phone though.
Swipe down for notifications, swipe up to sleep.

I should have posted an update but found a work around.
Using All In One Gestures app, I can swipe up from the home button and it will expand the notification panel. This works in any app unlike the Nova option.
Hi, you can use fooView, it allows to expand notification just pulling down the floating icon down, and other actions like back, home, recent, etc. with just one hand.

Why does my Moto G4 Plus have a weird preview of other apps?

This is kind of hard to explain but whenever I use my phone, no matter what app is open, or when I'm on the homescreen, some apps kind of show transparently on my display like it almost looks like the current app being used is translucent that I can see the other app? I can't really explain this properly. Screenshots don't show what I'm talking about.
It shows up at the very sides and top portion of the screen. It also shows when I bring down my notification shade. The grey part at the top which is supposed to be completely grey, still shows the battery icon, time, notification icons, signals, Wi-Fi indicator, etc. but very translucent. As if the grey quick toggles thing is translucent.
Again, screenshots dont capture the thingy. So I'm sure it's an issue and not intentional by Motorola.
It's screen burn issue. It has been discussed numerous times check through the forum for more help.

Install this, set on 5% black and after a while the burn images are gone. (keep the app on all the time, the one that I linked to is the one with less battery usage, from the 4 I tested)

As mentioned above by @Gero71 , use the app or visit the service center and ask them for a display replacement. That would be a permanent fix hopefully. :good:

I've seen some people complaining about the same issue after they've replaced their screens. It will still occur no matter what.
And, the app you're making me install, is just a screen filter. I use it all the time. Lowering the brightness doesn't fix the screen burn. It just makes it less prominent. But it is still there.
